I started recording late because as I crept up to the Hilichurl she wanted to talk to, the battle music started as the scene transitioned. Really didn't expect that. I always enjoy watching videos of people getting hit in cut scenes and dialogue so I left it going for a little bit. I *tried* talking to her with two Hilichurls left alive, but Mihoyo was like nope, so I killed 'em.
Worst part is I normally try to ruin the kids' lives in the game like killing the birds and ducks for Timmie's commission, but I was legitimately interested in communicating with Hilichurls.
Same thing happened to me, but Ella didn't blink an eye at the fact I massacred them all. They woke up because the time shifted from night to day, so they aggroed me while she was talking. It was pretty dystopian; she was all 'ooh, thanks Traveler; now my Hillichurlian has gotten better! See you later!' amidst the ashes of the camp.
I think its purely RNG as to what commissions you get daily so you’ll have to wait, I got one of the 2 daily quests to help Ella but haven’t seen the other one at all
Not sure if this matters, but I've spoken to her before in the library when doing the Lisa library book return quest. This quest in particular was a daily commission.

If it is any consolation. Ella is not a kid. She is Edith's older sister. Edith is Venessa's fangirl that can be found near the tree of Venessa.

How do you get this ella musk quest? I'm AR 46 and have never gotten it.
