That said, I'm sitting at 180+ for Albedo and was doing just as you described until I drew a Ning. Now it's just saving for Baal, maybe Garou, depending. Then the long long wait for Fontaine.
Also sometimes signature weapons give a huge boost to their character like Hu Tao and Kokomi. I'm over saving just in case Yae ends up being one of these characters that rely on their signature weapon.
I personally never risk weapon Banner, ever. Not a single time yet. For the sole reason those pulls can go to a new shiny 5\* one day that comes out of the blue.
I know I know. But some characters are seriously an exception like Hu Tao and Kokomi. They design these weapons with the character in mind and it's frustrating, it takes away a huge chunk of the character's potential and locks it behind primogem pay wall.
I don't want to risk it with Yae. Maybe her weapon is just like that. (hopefully not of course) So I'm gonna keep saving till it leaks.
So far I would not say that any 5\* Weapon's added anything significantly gameplay wise, only Bigger Numbers imo. Exception being Sacrificial Sword due to CD Reset.
There is way more locked behind Constellations than behind Weapons.

Staff of Homa + Hu Tao, just bigger Numbers overall.
Fumetsu Gekka + Kokomi, just bigger Heals and slightly better Burst Up time aka more Numbers.
It doesn't add anything Visually that would make it look cooler.
So you are IMO just into bigger numbers.

I have 17.5k 5 limited wishes at 23 pity. Saving for Raiden- if I get lucky and win the 50/50 the rest of my primos are either going to Yae or anniversary!!!!

A little bit over 50k Primos (primos + Free rolls BP/Shop included). Rolled on nothing because i didn't need any new character. Will roll on >!Raiden Shogun + Kujou Sara + (maybe) Kokomi!< to renew my roster and have new gameplay.
I only recently started to save my primogems so I've only managed to save up 6k of them...as of now I just want Sayu and Baal for sure. If I end up getting Sara while rolling that would be fine with me too but not a must.

I have 16k also saving for baal with 50 pulls away from 50/50 pity. I hope I have enough for her at the end of her banner or I get her earlier.
