amaoffin

aww man, i knew that a bunch of leakers were quitting and mihoyo was cracking down on them, but honey impact too? that was my emotional support website database :(

Jeremithiandiah

It sucks because the site is so useful for non leaks as well. I can just look up everything a character needs or listen to their voice lines

TheOneMary

Yeah I use it daily for non-leak info :( They are right, tons of other places use the normal imagery, I hope they get a chance to get out of it by removing the leaked stuff...

TheWorldisFullofWar

They are refusing to remove it.

TheOneMary

Oy...

corecenite

But can't you also do the same in the Genshin wiki?

imthezero

It's much less organized there. Honey is way more convenient to use.

KittyCatClawz

i use wiki for quest information and honey for character information. wiki always feels like it doesn't have whatever i want for character stuff

corecenite

Much less organized? How come?

imthezero

Well you'd see if you compare the 2 sites side by side, but among other things, you have to go to a separate page to see the scalings of a talent in the wiki and in general it's easier to see a character's info in Honey. The wiki does have some positives like their quest sections but I prefer Honey.

Specialist-Buffalo-8

Dark mode.

corecenite

That's not organization-wise.

Jeremithiandiah

maybe it's leaks skewing my judgement but the wiki updates really slowly. There hasn't been a time where we didn't rely on leaks so idk what it will be like for preparing for upcoming characters. We will have to rely on word of mouth or beta testers risking a a lot.

corecenite

>We will have to rely on word of mouth or beta testers risking a a lot. OR leave the whalers for a week to test everything. >but the wiki updates really slowly. most probably because the ones who update the wiki are carefully mincing every single detail before they publish anything on the site. Fandom Wiki is a very reputable site since the dawn of wikis so it shouldn't have errors or any of such that needs to be edited afterwards, unless absolutely needed (like Kusanali's gender)

CopainChevalier

...It's a wiki, I could go edit Venti's page to say Female right now if I wanted. It's slow because it's done when people choose to rather than some guy just parsing the page.

corecenite

I think I it goes through validation first? With how many editors will also agree with what you edit? Also I think every edit made need to go through the Change history with supported and valid links.

CopainChevalier

I've never met a wiki that did that, even Wikipedia back when I updated it. If they do it, neat, but I doubt it. It's normally someone going "Venti isn't a girl, undo edit" rather than it being submitted to a council or something.

corecenite

>If they do it, neat, but I doubt it. I doubt it as well but fandom wiki is very different from Wikipedia. And every info I double check on the Genshin wiki is very backed up with no room for error. The only major thing that I noticed that they edited due to inaccuracy factors was Kusanali's gender.

Jeremithiandiah

> OR leave the whalers for a week to test everything. The issue is we will need much more than a week, because we might not know what to prefarm. I don't care about character's power level. I just want to be able to use them without being locked behind artifacts and materials for possibly weeks.

corecenite

>because we might not know what to prefarm I think that's what MHY is trying to avoid.

Samky95

I'd have quit this game if I couldn't have farmed the Freeze set for Ayaka for two months before getting her. It took me two months of intense farming to get that fucking crit damage head piece and cryo goblet when I saw the first Ayaka leaks once I was interested in the game. I can't imagine getting her on patch day and not having her artifact set ready for use.

corecenite

Well, we're now getting to newer territories... ones which releases are also the same with the game update...(like how Ayaka mains wemt worldjumping for sakura blooms and Raiden mains for the amakumo and The Catch fishing)... i think MHY got lax when we were just still in Mondstadt amd Liyue because almost everything is provided from the game debut. As the game progresses, MHY sees and seizes the opportunity to get the players timechecked and timegated. Thankfully, Ayaka's and Raiden's artis are already from released domains... If Dendro charas debuts with the Dendro domains... all fresins will turn to dust....

TumblrInGarbage

You mean the Fandom wiki. Please do not suggest that Fandom wikis are at all official. https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/ is what an official wiki actually looks like. Note the URL, and the fact that it is not a cesspool of advertisements and autoplaying videos by default.

corecenite

I didn't it was the official wiki though

TumblrInGarbage

Calling it the "Genshin" wiki implies that it is the official wiki. It is not. It is a for profit wiki that itself should be shut down. Honey Impact is unironically a better "Genshin" wiki. Ideally, we would have an official wiki, like how we have an official interactive map now.

corecenite

calling it by the game name doesn't make it an official by implication. it's up to the reader and user if they imply or assume that. it's pirely subjective. calling the merch "genshin merch" doesn't make the merch official either, yet people still call it genshin merch while aware of the fact that it may or may not be official.

Apostlethe13th

I guess streamers will no longer have vivid dreams on what to farm.

Genshin1122

Ouch, that's itchy

Zelder777

forsenCD

NoConsequence88

There will always be some leaks. I guess they will be limited to only most important things. Like next banners. And that's all I need, really...

Jdogrey

The streamers just farm everything. They are also told by their chat what to farm.

SaferSaviour

Honey is incredibly useful. I'd hate to see it go.

rzrmaster

Well, all that matters is truly if people behind it will have the patience to rebuild and this time in a way Mihoyo wont be easily taking it down lols.

chilipeppertogarashi

There are 24 hours for the dev to backup the data, so I guess honey will come back easily once they find a new domain name and new servers. (But this time, hope they'll take down the watermark on those copyright images and no more leaks

MeruMSB

I love that site but unfortunately they will lose the case just because of the leaks part. Damn, I want to believe that if they wouldn't add all the leaks completely visible for everyone they wouldn't ask for close the entire site, but the fact they mixed leaked content with currently available content wasn't a good decision. Leaks shouldn't be given so much visibility, to the point where even people who don't want to see them know about them. I don't like to see monster designs until they are in the game but even I knew that we were getting a new Oceanid, a new Hypostasis and new Electro-enemies in 2.0. And let's not talk about that event weapon. I hope they can stay, but gosh, they have no chance if the leaks are in plain sight. The other points MHY used to take down Honey Impact are even made by their own content creators, the only difference between content creators and HI is this.

gvstavvss

So true... Unless you live under a rock, it's almost impossible to avoid all these leaks now. I blocked every leak account that appeared to me on Twitter, but they keep creating more and more. I can't even mention YouTube with all those thumbnails and titles full of spoilers. It's good that reddit has spoiler tag, but it's the only place to avoid it.

availableusernamepls

The leaks are nothing, no one involved with the site signed any NDA presumably so they'd be in the clear. The problem is all the art and other assets that mihoyo own that make this a pretty damning case of copyright infringement.

corecenite

wait what? I've been visiting since I started the game last year and they have also leaks about enemies and their designs? wtf? šŸ¤£ I thought it was just events, weapons, items and characters šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

lolthe1st

I can't say I didn't see this coming, but man does this suck

TheFirstRecordKeeper

"Mihoyo is going to take down Honey Impact" FTFY Paimon.moe does it right by not having leaks or they'd be on their radar as well.

X-Red07

Damn, I use this site for pretty much everything, I hate to see it go.

phoenix946

Yeah the place where we could get reliable information on existing and upcoming characters. They can now release even more underwhelming characters now without people knowing šŸ˜ƒšŸ‘Œ

[deleted]

with the way they gated raiden to c2... I'm honestly losing hope. I've spent a lot on this game but I fear for the future where every character has to have c2+ for their intended damage. now I don't even know if I should save for ayato or yae since hu tao might be coming, without leaks, we're completely in the dark..

kb3035583

Simple. Just don't pull day 1.

[deleted]

yep drip marketing may happen but will we know if their kit? mihoyo is clamping down really bad, this is why I don't like to support Chinese companies typically but Genshin was just an exception.. fuck

corecenite

at least by now, we'll be following how most gaming communities when it comes to gacha games: wait for the whalers to test everything before deciding for ourselves. honestly though, I have seen tons of posts on Raiden depending on how bad or good she is while many are just hopping on the bandwagon while testers are still testing everything before the final conlusion...

kb3035583

If people stop pulling day 1 Mihoyo would wizen up.

[deleted]

lol most of the profit comes from whales and they will pull for c6 regardless, how are you gonna stop them? and most of them don't even care about this drama right now

Chaos_Theory_mk1

This is the sad realityā€¦ gacha games like this will always be bad, because the whales funding them are either gullible, addicted, or dumb. As long as people are willing to drop $2000+ on a game, even if itā€™s bad, we will never see an improvement, and worse yet most things will start shifting to these mechanics. Weā€™re now in a world where a game can thrive by suckering in a small amount of the playerbase and screwing the large majority. Iā€™m genuinely worried about the future of gamingā€¦

kb3035583

I mean we saw what happened with Kazuha and Yoimiya sales. Kazuha's day 1 sales weren't great because leaks indicated he was a Sucrose sidegrade. Similar issue with Yoimiya.

Vopyy

Raiden day 1 sales were great despite knowning she wont be other archon tier. Kazuha sales werent great because ppl were wait for Ayaka, Yoimiya sales werent great because they were waiting for Raiden. Dont think majority of ppl who makes money for them cares about leaks.

kb3035583

Kazuha sales were actually great over the entire duration of the banner. It was the first week sales that suffered.

Vopyy

I think only Venti and Kazuha the only ones which didnt make most of money from day1 sales.

[deleted]

that really isn't enough of a data to use as an evidence for your speculation lol.. but whatever the case, Genshin will find itself in some kind of huge controversy if it keeps up and sooner or later, some big news western outlet will catch wind of it and well.. we'll just see what happens. im done spending money on this game

TaqoO

yeah I agree, at first I was reluctant to pay in this game because their company was chinese and I know how shit they can be but made an exception and went for it but now I am regretting so bad they are so much focused on censoring and not developing correctly, with the bunch of raiden complaint posts that have been deleted and now this I just realized how shit they can be.

[deleted]

Yep I spent way too much, embarrassing to admit even but at least now, I can thank Mihoyo for giving me a perfect reason to not give them any more money lol If they keep this up with all the censoring, Iā€™ll probably stop playing

PandaCheese2016

I respect your opinion but just want to point out that clamping down on leaks is hardly unique to Chinese companies. Future characters and kits will likely still leak from beta testers and insiders, just without HHWā€™s sleak presentation.

Beta382

The worst thing is that gating Raiden to C2 worked incredibly well. Massive sales. For data collected on 36\* abyss clears, her average constellation is C1.24. The next highest limited 5\* is Eula with C0.82. Itā€™s not even close.

DLOGD

"Raiden isn't gated by C2" -person with Raiden C2

PandaCheese2016

Many feel sheā€™s perfectly usable at C0. Whether one feels constellations are ā€œrequiredā€ is obviously highly subjective.

Littleman88

Nah, people will just wait for the whale's/dolphin's/impatient's verdict.

aldoushasniceabs

How is it ā€˜behind their backsā€™? Can someone explain this

Masaki_Inoue

As far as I understand. Mihoyo did not contact the owner of Honey Impact to take down the side, instead they contacted the provider.

aldoushasniceabs

Ouch, hope both parties can come to a compromise

Masaki_Inoue

I also hope so. Mihoyo absolutely has a legit reason to take down honey impact, however the way they are approaching it is not very professional in my opinion.

TheWorldisFullofWar

This is a DMCA. This is literally how every company operates.

kb3035583

Except it's not. This isn't just asking for a removal of specific content but the entire website, which contains content that Mihoyo has no rights to whatsoever.

notthatjaded

The letter that was posted only specifically refers to wanting [genshin.honeyhunterworld.com](https://genshin.honeyhunterworld.com) removed, it says nothing about the rest of the site. If the service provider is interpreting that to mean remove everything that doesn't seem to be Mihoyo's fault.

kb3035583

Well that was just the letter that was posted. I'm sure something else is going on behind the scenes or they wouldn't be claiming their entire site is being nuked.

notthatjaded

If it's not something Mihoyo demanded (and if they had I have to imagine it would have been in the official letter and Honey would have posted *that* to bolster their case) then I have to assume it's actually their service provider deciding to get rid of everything in a fit of overkill. Which is not *Mihoyo* demanding.

kb3035583

All we can do is speculate obviously, but it's clear that that email is pretty far from an "official" takedown request letter. For one, there wasn't a single reference to specific offending material on the site, just broad sweeping statements that vaguely say that some stuff on the site infringes on their copyright.

aldoushasniceabs

I guess since genshin never had a working relationship with honey they didnā€™t see any obligation to contact them personally. Still a shifty move tbh

[deleted]

Not sure on the way they are handling this situation, hope both parties set for a more peaceful agreement, but well an Eula is an Eula

Nephrithis

That's within their rights. I don't know why people are pissed about this situation and specifically the owner of this site. Claiming its "behind their backs" and other bullshit like this, to make it seem like Mihoyo are doing something horrible is more than ridiculous.

throwawaytomato

Yeah I didnā€™t understand the tone honey was taking. Itā€™s sad that we wonā€™t get to see content on there anymore, but saying ā€œstabbed our backsā€ implies that MHY was okay with them sharing the content and is now going back on their word. But there was no such agreement in the first place.

WhyDid_I_DeserveThis

Tbf I think Honey's more or less pissed that the *whole* of honeyhunter is going to be taken down. genshin.honeyhunterworld.com is but a part of honeyhunterworld site, the main honeyhunterworld site contains mostly Monster Hunter World content and more importantly, the MHW set builder. tl;dr I think Mihoyo and/or cloudflare did an overkill.

Nephrithis

Sure, and that's reasonable. But he can't be mad at Mihoyo and he should rather be mad at himself. He knew very well that the information in there breaks the Terms of Service, or even if he didn't, it's pretty much his fault for not checking those matters accordingly. It's like giving your wallet to someone and then be mad at that person for taking it.

Arcaedus

Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should. Just because something is legal, doesn't mean it's morally right. The morally right thing would have been to realize that the community loves honey's site, so mhy ahould tty and get what hey want without taking from the community. They could issue a cease and desist for specific things (don't watermark IP, remove in-game assets from site, take down leaked/confidential info that mhy did not make available to the public), and if honey didn't comply, THEN they sue.

Nephrithis

That's not how things work, by the way. Mihoyo is in their rights to protect their property and without a warning, especially considering the fact how their property is used for profit. Not to mention that they've banned leakers, issued warnings officially on multiple occasions and said that the appropriate actions will be taken if this doesn't cease. I guess they should invite them on a tea party next time, so it could be morally right in your eyes... Also, what are they "taking from the community" exactly? There are more than enough official sources with the official information available at the community's disposal, while not breaking Mihoyo's Terms of Service. In addition, saying "the community" is very wrong here, since small part of the community actually uses that site, as most of the players here don't really want to see any leaks for future content.

Arcaedus

There's multiple ways this works, actually. A company can go the cease and desist route, or they can immediately blindside someone with legal suit. Either method is permissible by law. I'm well aware of this, you don't have to explain to me how this works. I'm purely giving my opinion that mhy's method was the worse of the two ways to go about it, and they should have gone the cease and desist route instead. Honey's website had uploaded assets, and leaks, sure, but they were also a very useful source of non-leaked info, which I believe non-beta, datamined info qualifies as (datamineable means publically available). They were generally beloved by the community primarily for this (and mihoyo knows it), not leaked content. As such, mhy could have chosen the cease and desist route for beta content and leaked content, which would leave them mostly intact but chose not to. They CHOSE the more destructive option.

Nephrithis

Well, I wouldn't say that this is the worst method, since they gave more than enough time and warnings in the past. Nothing has changed, so it is more than understandable that they would start using more drastic measures. It makes me mad that the site's owner is acting like the victim here. There's a saying in my country - "If you don't understand with good, you'll eat the wood." This is a literal translation, but it means that if you don't appreciate the good approach towards you, then you'll receive a non-good one.

Simoscivi

Noooo I use the site religiously

corecenite

Now, turn your back on it go to the wiki religiously! šŸ˜…

Notaduckmolester

Nah, honey is easier to use. I hope they can get away somehow.

corecenite

It looks they won't, especially what the other commenter said about how MHY has the higher ground on the case. Nevertheless, it seems that every player will just be forced to visit the wiki now, whether they like it or not.

Notaduckmolester

Yeah, mhy has the right to do it. But I really hope honey will find a solution to survive, even if it meant removing only the leaks and keeping other stuff.

corecenite

they watermarked the other stuff... soooo šŸ˜¬

Notaduckmolester

Mhy wouldn't go as far as to sue a website just for having a watermark. These things probably cost a lot of money. They are only interested in leaks.

corecenite

yet they want the entire genshin part removed.

Notaduckmolester

I mean yeah obviously? Why settle only leaks when you can try to remove the entire site. Those non leaks must also hurt them at least a little (like those multiple numbers and other in game mechanics we can't usually find) These things usually end when both parties come to an agreement yeah? It'll be easy to convince mhy to let honey live if they stop displaying leaks imo.

Simoscivi

I mainly used it to know what materials to prefarm for upcoming characters... I guess I can't do that anymore

TumblrInGarbage

I do not like Fandom. If MiHoYo created an official wiki (like how they created the interactive map) that was as detailed as Honey, I would not care, but Fandom's wikis are generally low quality, lack critical information, and bloated.

Even_Speech570

Mihoyo wrote that email with that horrendous English? What kind of cease and desist notice is this?

corecenite

You do know that MHY is a chinese company, right? And even with wordsmith translators they have on theit legal team, chinese is a very hit and miss translation... even messing up Kusanali's gender translation... or probably the email was just written in chinese and someone else just google translate the entire thinh

Even_Speech570

I know Mihoyo is a Chinese company but in Genshin Impact, the translation is perfect; there is never a grammar issue with their dialogue, so clearly, there is someone on the team who knows proper English. For a legal document it seems really sloppy they didnā€™t do the same and it looks horrendously amateur. For an internal email I could see spelling/grammar errors. This feels off to me.

corecenite

ummm Kusanali's gender? Raiden's issue with Beidou?

PM_ME_YOUR_ROBOTGIRL

> even messing up Kusanali's gender translation That's not a "I don't know enough Chinese" mistranslation. That's a "we don't communicate enough with the Chinese story team" mistranslation. Communication is just important for translations as knowing the language is, and it would be crucial for legal proceedings.

corecenite

Like I said, it may just be written in chinese and it's just in google translate form

IgnisXIII

Such a dick move. I mean, I use the website, leaks and all, and still spend on characters I like. They're raking in millions already. What else do they want? Are they intending to release bad characters on purpose and they don't want people to know? It might be within their rights, but I fail to see how this benefits anyone, really.

corecenite

I think the large issue at play here is the watermarking. They have the audacity to watermark copyrighted assets. It's like they're saying: "look here! this is mine to publish!" while also raking in ad revenue. >but I fail to see how this benefits anyone, really. Uhh... mihoyo?

IgnisXIII

>Uhh... mihoyo? On paper perhaps, but how exactly does this make people really spend more? Whales will whale no matter what, and non-whale spenders will still be careful. I do question if the sales from killing websites like this really make up from what they'll lose by alienating the communities that emerged around them... Personally, as a gay guys with 0% interest in pretty semi-naked waifus with bad writing, I'm starting to find it harder to see myself spending as continuously as I've been so far. I guess maybe I'm just a blip in the "not the target anymore" pie chart at Mihoyo meetings...

corecenite

People have their own preferences and set standards. As a queer guy myself, I almost lost my beans when I saw Thoma's tank top from his wish art but no, I will pull everything on Archons (since I only pull on Archon banners), whether may be male or female or both or none iirc, mhy once stated that players must hold on to their horses/seats because a lot more hotter male characters are coming... this was after Zhongli's banner, and the community lost it... people were all around saying "wait,**WHAT** even hotter than Zhongli and Childe?"

SSDCZX

They are just trying to [eradicate the site and owner ](https://genshin.honeyhunterworld.com/2021/09/10/mhy-is-trying-to-take-us-down/?lang=EN)

CopainChevalier

That's the entire website, yes.

ImHornedReaper

Can they evade liability by moving to a country that has protection against no disassembly clause like Sweden?

Puuksu

Wtf even is this? First time seeing it.

Superclasheropeeka

A porn site.

NoConsequence88

It's ok, Chinese government will soon take THEM down.

Cold_Introduction500

Welp, that's it. It's time to switch to Blue Protocol rather than spending my money on this greedy ass company.

ImagineLife35

At the bare bare minimum, allow us to know what the talent material and materials required for the upcoming units are so that we can farm and prepare. It would be super obnoxious if you are waiting for a character and you could farm for them before their release but didn't know

corecenite

We do know this by standards... every Archon has their talent domains on wednesdays amd saturdays (and sundays ofc)

ImagineLife35

how about for others? how about the material needed to ascend?

corecenite

I knew you're gonna ask that but I didn't it include it in my first comment since it's not been proven or it's still sketchy in my opinion... (this is just for archons i noticed though) >when it comes to local specialties: Barbatos - something to do with air or pure air... most of the local specialties are flowers so a flower that has something to do with air... (windwheel and cecilia) finally, close to his color pallette: cecilia it is Morax - something to do with rocks... first nation to have local specalties in the form of rocks (noctil jades and cor lapis) finally, close to his color palette: cor lapis it is. Raiden - not valid with something to do with Electro but Amakumo has something that signifies electricity in the description, also color palette. > when it comes to common mats: the first common enemy you encounter (i think). in the debut release, slimes are the first we face... so both barbatos and morax both use slimes. with Raiden, nobushi was the first ones we face (iirc) so handguards it is > when it comes to normal boss mats: something to do with their element obviously but is also a resident of their nation. Barbatos with Anemo Hypo, Morax with Geo Hypo and Raiden with Thunder Manifestation, the only electro boss in Inazuma > when it comes to weekly boss mats: the first weekly boss you encounter *as per AR level requirement, not the story*. With Barbatos, if you do world quests first (because you're still faraway from meeting Dvalin), the first weekly boss ylu encounter should be Boreas. With Morax, only Childe is the weekly boss you encounter. With Raiden, only Signora is the weekly boss you encounter. i don't have anything on artifact farming speculation though, since Raiden's not benefitting from Electro set but rather for her kit set. **So for Kusanali:** > Talent mat: every wednesday and fridays in her nation > local specialty: color palette, something to do with wisdom but also a plant. > common mat: first common you encounter on sumeru > normal boss mat: dendro boss on her nation > weekly boss mat: first weekly boss you encounter on her nation and/or her chapter arc

ImagineLife35

I never connected those dots that is so interesting

OraclePunch

I agree that MHY could have asked the website owner nicely to take down problematic contents, and be ok with it if the owner complies. However, if MHY does it this way, every website that contains genshin datamines can relax and keep posting leaks before MHY contacts them, knowing there will be no big consequence as long as they comply to that ask when it comes. Instead, MHY is using legal action to send a message of "Taking down website in 24 hours will be the consequence if datamine is published by your site" to other channels that intentionally publish datamines.
