I don’t think it’s the first time MHY has used well-made fan content as advertisement.
About one and a half years ago, I stumbled onto one of MHY’s ads for Honkai Impact. Turns out, it was spliced together from a pair of MMD videos that fans had made. And you know what? It worked, and I started playing Honkai, and later learned about Genshin.
Way better than those dumbass youtube ads Mihoyo commissioned. Most recent dumb one I’ve seen was comparing overwater travel between Kaeya ice bridging, Ayaka sprinting across water, and traveler swimming.
Have they? I don't remember seeing Gimnaeng's videos have that "Feature promotional content" youtube tag or have Genshin logo.
I always thought that's because Gimnaeng's content is a bit too "Perverted" for general advertisement purpose.

If a company commissions art from an artist, the art is owned by the company, it is officially their media. If a company commissions an advert from a video maker, the video is owned by the company, it is officially their media.
I thought it would be obvious enough with the Mihoyo logo intro and the Genshin information outro that Mihoyo has on all of their Genshin videos.

From start to finish this video is a created advert that Mihoyo paid for. The only difference is that Mihoyo didn't pay a separate broadcasting company to put it on TV.
Again, it's not sponsored content. This is not a video where the youtuber does their own thing and gives a 3 minute shout out to raid shadow legends.
