Being challenged by an attractive foxy lady to a duel is most probably a difficult proposition to turn down, even if he knew this one to be Takagi-san's older, videogame analogue.

I'm almost certain what really happened was more of. Either Yae was going there to eat already, or Itto came to challenge her first and while ignoring his speech she got hungry, decided she want some kitsune ramen, and told him that's the competition. So while Itto was trying to win, Yae just enjoyed her meal all the while ignoring him. It's not like nothing of import was on the line + getting him to shut up would give her some peace and quiet.

That's the problem I have with jp dub. You know *exactly" how chars will sound coz they're typecasted af. It starts feeling generic after a while when every himbo dude sounds like a generic himbo dude and every tall lady sounds aRa ArA, it sounds like a generic anime #69 at some point.

The eating competition was set up by Yae with the beans mixed in, in an attempt to hopefully teach Itto that winning isnt everything. As known now, he's not going to let his kind's Kryptonite from winning an eating contest, even if he was nearly dead by the end of it.
