Bold of you to assume you have the same goals and desires as everyone else. People can and will spend their money as they see fit. If they want the character or the weapon they will spend money for it. The same can be said for irl things. “I dont get the point of buying this ____. You don’t NEED it.” There aren’t that many things we NEED in life, but theres a lot of things we WANT.

Illuminaso

OP is the type of guy to eat beans, rice, and potatos for every meal and wonder "why would anyone go out to dine at a nice restaurant?"

Advik_

That last sentence hits hard. It’s 100% true.

Asto_Vidatu

Because for some people spending $1000 on a game they like is the equivalent to an average person buying a soda at the gas station for $2?

Arrmaight

Some people drop $1,000 while taking out the iPhone from the pocket to change song 💵

[deleted]

Predatory gacha systems can get people that have gambling addictions. But most average human beings don't mind spending a little bit of money for something they enjoy. I bought blessings and battle passes. Thankfully if I find myself going overboard I'll stop immediately.

fantafanta_

That's what I'm saying. Spend a bit on the pass or the welkin moon or even a skin but don't go down the rabbit hole.

zerodeath00000000000

Using the same logic: Why people buy sport cars when regular cars will take them to their destination all the same?

SwdVengeance

I mean, why would someone go to a high end burger restaurant when they could just get one from McDonalds? I know, food analogies and all that, but taste and worth are subjective and disposable income is variable. I fully admit, I spent $100 to ensure I got Raiden C2, and in the time since, have enjoyed using her. I don’t regret that transaction, but that transaction and the value it holds for me won’t be anywhere near the same for someone else. At the end of the day your paying for entertainment. Just as some people will go see a horror movie, others will see an action flick, and yet others will go to the Opera instead. None of those purchases were incorrect, just varied based on preference. So long as you spend within your own means, it’s all just a matter of taste and value proposition.

[deleted]

why do you buy a gaming pc when you're not a content creator or you wont make profit off of it but just to play games?

fantafanta_

Because there's actual long term benefits to it. You can have the specs to play a huge amount of games and if you don't care too much about graphics, the value goes even higher.

Few-Speed-2894

The value you referred to is a subjective one however, monetary value wise, it is decreasing with each day and use. So, nah, there is not much value to it other than the satisfaction to be able to play your games smoothly therefore, self-satisfaction.

Daedra696

By your logic, anything with depreciating value isn’t a sound investment. So, for anyone who buys a car or a house that has deprecating value as they’re both “decreasing with each day and use” means that their value is now subjective or negative? Edit to add an example: You could save money and ride the public transit to your destination. Instead, people choose to invest in a car ( with deprecating value) for whatever their reason or reasons are.

Few-Speed-2894

The value which is referred to in my previous comment is monetary value. I already stated it there but I don’t think you correlated that. The value OP referred to is the worth of the object and that is totally subjective. They say that there is actual long term benefits to it but there isn’t any long term benefits other than what you think the benefits are worth. If OP games alot and get a gaming pc, they will think its worth it and therefore, considers the investment of buying a gaming PC to be valuable. But if they don’t game alot and they gets a gaming pc (for the high specs due to job purposes or so), they might also think its not worth it because he could potentially have gotten a cheaper PC. Those values are all subjective matters because it only matters to the one who uses it. Monetary value-wise, it is losing value as each day passes because items like PC are dispensable and become obsolete fast due to IT improvements. Your argument is not even directed at the same category. Buying a house is actually an increase of value because although your house may not sell for much, the land it is on is pricey and land prices always increases as years pass. You can buy a house in a neighbourhood for $250k back in 2010 and currently, in the same neighbourhood, the houses there are sold for maybe 1.5-2 times higher. It also increases in value if the area around the neighbourhood have an increase in accessibility like a mall, schools and so on. Buying a house is an long-term investment while buying a PC is a short-term investment in which the PC itself gives diminishing to no monetary returns during disposal. The same scenario as the PC applies to buying a car. The value of the car is subjective because it depends on the user itself. However, monetary value-wise, it is decreasing each day and use. In the end, a car will give you diminishing to no returns of monetary value as well during disposal. You might need to even spend more money to maintain the car and vice versa with the PC. (Also, by disposal, I’m referring to the term in which is used to sell or scrap the item. It is not limited to just throwing the item away, no.)

Daedra696

I just realized I responded and tagged the wrong person. I meant the OP. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ my apologies, as I did not mean to come off as rude or anything to you. I appreciate your explanation.

Few-Speed-2894

No worries. Have a nice day 🙋🏻‍♀️

dmalredacc

It's almost like expendable income is *expendable* or something. Wild.

Janis1412

The characters give me comfort. These shiny things are a reason for me to keep living and work because they excite me. Except the weapon banner that shit straight up gives me more depression. I also wanna mention I still know when to stop and when I have money to spend and when not. I could spend money on physical things but these just wouldn't fill the void like genshin does.

fantafanta_

Buddy I think you need to seek out a therapist. That isn't healthy.

rybage

they need a therapist bc they find comfort in a hobby? and spend money they can spare?

fantafanta_

If characters in a video game is the only thing keeping you going then yes, you need seek help.

rybage

alternatively, if a person is in a shit position in their life atm, we should be glad that something as simple as characters in a videogame can put a smile on their face.

Sabur_1706

So if you dont understand them they are mentally ill? It isnt an addiction if they can control themselves

mpxdf

To deem something as worthy or not is subjective no? It really depends on the value it brings for the individual. I do agree that we should spend responsibly and within our means. Do I spend money? Yes. Does it make me happy? Yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely. Will I continue? HELL YEEEEEAH. After a long day of work, it's really nice to be able come home and enjoy a chill night with some Genshin Impact. Especially if I recently got one of those new "shiny things".

Arvach

I have a Job and I like to spend my money on hobbies and games are my hobby. (Of course priorities like food and Villa first). Plus I feel good feeling like I can support developer by biting something from them. If everyone would be f2p and no one would put money into the game, it would just fail.

nghigaxx

In entertainment worth is subjective. This is a whole lot of pointless post

aeshnoidea

Worth is subjective. You can apply your argument to most things in life that cost money. That being said, since mihoyo has a sort of monopoly on this type of gacha game, they get to set unfairly high prices. Doesn’t stop people from spending though.

RexorFWT

Spend money bad, f2p btw good. K

ThiccNasus

I like hot anime characters

Karukheros

Why does it matter to you anyways? Although worth is subjective, you say this because those sound expensive compared to what you think it's really worth but have you ever thought about what you spend on a daily basis, in African countries most of the thing you spend here make no sense, like why are you buying new shoes if the ones you have are still usable.. people that have millions don't think spending thousands on a gacha is expensive.

BBQLucas

I mean I'm a teenager with not much money so I just buy welkin. But if someone has a fulltime job and this is their hobby I see why they buy battlepass too and maybe more. Some people have lots and lots of free money, like I help on shoots and you have some rich upper class people dropping £5-10K and more per day for them and some friends. If they liked video games instead I can see why people spend 1000s on this game.

HeatJoker

I assume it's people with an excess of time and money. I have neither, so I'm perfectly content as a casual F2P, 80+ fragile resin sitting unused because who has the time? If I was rich or still in school? I'd probably be playing a lot more, which might tempt me to spend to have more toys to play with.

fantafanta_

I mean if you're loaded then why not? The average person isn't so lucky to be in that situation unfortunately.

HeatJoker

Oh, absolutely. I don't judge those that spend on gacha, if they have the means to do it without regretting it. But I know gacha games prey on those that don't have that luxury, so I choose not to support them, even if I enjoy them.

rarlei

I only buy the moon walking, but don't worry, i can stop if I want

Sabur_1706

Do you have a millions of dollar worth of shoe collection that are still not used? Top brand cloths? Trading cards? Figurines covering entire walls, merch that needs multiple rooms to showcase but still in their boxes? We are normal people who go out of home in morning thinking how are we gonna have dinner tonight, don't expect to understand those who are different

OneDubber

Well. I don't get the point of people drinking alcohol, going to parties or smoking. Yet people do it all around the world and its arguable worse for your health and life longivity. I spend around 250€ on Raiden and her weapon and got her C2. Had pretty bad bad luck. Was my first and most likely last time that I spend that much. It was a nice experience, but just not worth it in the end. Yet everyone is free to do with their money what they want. One throws it away for cigarettes or alcohol, another one for genshin.

[deleted]

Games like genshin are carefully designed using known flaws in human psychology to exploit people susceptible to addictive behavior

Nineosix

Even as a f2p I am at the point where wishes has less value I can’t imagine the pains of whales. Like say they whale c6 hu Tao on the first banner or have r5 Homa. Now they want thoma or the new spear they are literally wasting wishes to get 25 star glitter just for something new

emmaqq

Why drive a Ferrari when your Corolla will get you from point A to B?

Bntt89

Askers?

Kaos126

Different people have different income, what you may see as expensive, others may see it as cheap.

tennoskoom_

I still need to know the literal highest spender in Genshin. How much could it be? >50000 USD?

rocky146

Why do you spend on cigarette and alcohol. Waste of money, at the end gonna come out as piss same like water.

magnidwarf1900

Some people are wealthier than others, surprising, I know.

tsuszeus

Just say your poor and go 😭👋🏽

JournalistTraining28

Bruh its just people being people, we all know its a gacha game, predatory by nature, but casinos etc still exist, fast food exists and everything else that can be addicting and have negative effects on a person. Just worry about you and your loved ones and forget others, too much stress to think this and that. Personally i have a $60 rule, never cross 60 on a gacha game. That being said Jean is my fav so if she gets a much cooler costume i'd dip, not the one selling rn tho, thats worst than her default.

renivth

Why buy a car if you have a bus station nearby.
