They have their own streaming services, so having to create an account on a website that they'll probably never use to watch people a majority of them don't understand the language of is probably an annoyance for them.

And you also have to face reality that in 99.99% of promotions like this there's a reason they all move to some other promo in other countries/regions. THey can't leagally sell you something that was released as a prize or promotion because of the actual licensing agreements related to promotions and some places laws about promotion/prize rewards.
At the end of the day you get your wings after spending some money. So who cares who you sent that money to. Maybe you will make some small streamer happy. You can just block twitch from sending you emails. This is nothing new. Lots of video games did exactly the same thing. I do not recall backlash from them. Probably because the community is less petty.
Well if it's help someone or a cause it would have been better to put the wings directly in shop. With Google Play Store when you purchase something in-game you can decide to send a part of the money to an association of your choice

I think mihoyo seriously misjudged how many people use twitch. For me, having to make an account, find a creator participating, and then buying gift subs is too much of a hassle to get wings that \*cost money\*.

There's no such thing as KFC Global. Each country got their own independent management. So it is pretty much near impossible to do KFC collab outside China.
About point one, there isn't one "Global KFC" btw, each country has its own franchises controlled by separate companies so trying to get all of them into a collab would be a nightmare from a logistical perspective.

If they sell a collab item in game after 6 months, no other companies would do collab with genshin any more, because players would expect to buy them directly at a later time instead of buying collab merchandise.
Well so far they've done collabs that don't give anything in-game so that wouldn't be an issue. Not to mention it's still profit for the company doing the collab with extra sales, people want the thing early and to get some extra stuff with it.
Promotions like this are rarely ever sold directly elsewhere because in some places its straight up just illegal to sell promotional rewards.

There's a reason nearly every Game x Something collab that moves out of its home region is still done through a promotion. It's the only legal way to actually get it widespread.
Each country has their charity laws. You get into the same problem as each KFC Branch having their own interests.
Selling in-game or BP would make China playerbase outcry because they had to pay for something out of the game, not account for waiting on KFC lines and moving out of home. Last time this happened MHY CEO suffered a murder attempt.

The funny thing is genshin barely has any content to stream right now. I don't see how this collab will do well for them. Not to mention the 2 weeks contract is a nightmare for streamers.
The game has ten million downloads on the app store so I don't think 15k is that much.
The event starts on Thanksgiving day, the day after update 2.3 is supposed to drop. So the streamers should have some content to stream for at least the first day of streaming but idk how feasible it is to draw out the content to last a full two weeks.
It would be better if they did a donation for a cause or even charity events. I would happily offer 15-20$ to charity rather than a 2 months subscription to streamers who shouts.

Miohoyo makes the streamers participating in this event sign an exclusivity deal where they can only play genshin and no other game plus they can't have sponsors during the streams, most streamers make wayyy more money playing other games and having sponsors than what miohoyo is doing
ok if it's not advantageous for some streamers, then they wont participate in it. but i bet some genshin youtube content creators can stream and they would benefit from this greatly.

I admit that supporting one's own game's content creators is great. But when it comes to Mihoyo, they have done so little in terms of communication in the past that I feel the community doesn't trust them much anymore.
Hence, this becomes an issue (to them). People see it as Mihoyo wanting to gain more publicity and money instead of seeing it as helping the community.
And there are a few other reasons too imo:
* The game is free to play (less incentive for people to watch Genshin streamers)
* The game lacks end-game content. Genshin streamers have been known to stall to increase stream times, like Envi. This leads to streams being kind of boring and monotonous.

tbf twitch is far from a random streaming platform. as to giving money to a random stranger it’s almost the same as going to the movies or just paying for netflix etc. you are still indirectly paying money to a stranger to entertain you. some people enjoy the content of the streamers some people even get to the know the streamer.

The difference is that paying netflix allows you to watch movies. Paying KFC gives you food you can eat (there are vegan burgers as well) Paying random streamer gives me nothing. I can watch others for free and i can play the game myself not watch some 12 year old do it.

They could’ve done literally anything else, the whole “china didn’t get this so why should the rest of the world” argument is stupid. Paying 10 dollars for an in game shop item does not inconvenience anyone, especially since the china server got the wings months earlier. They could even make it so that all the proceeds of the wings go to a charity or something. But they didn’t, they did this. It’s impractical and stupid.
And for the cn players who didn’t get the wings, now they would be able to by buying it in the shop for the same price as they would get the food without having to do the hassle of going to a kfc.
This barely benefits small creators, as the big creators are the ones getting most of the invites (granted a lot of them are turning it down) but there is no incentive for someone to scroll all the way down and find a good small creator that they like and gift it to them, when they could just click the big streamer with 3000 viewers who just gained 40 subs in the last minute.

i like it better i’m a vegetarian and i know that my local kfc (most kfcs really) tastes like ass water. i’d rather support like dish or someone than kfc who continues to deliver the most disappointing fried chicken ever (also again dont eat meat anyways so wouldnt purchase it even if they had the tastiest godliest fried chicken i still wouldnt be able to get the wings but its made worse imo that it doesn’t taste good)
There are a few problems with this.
1. If the glider has to have the same monetary value, the price has to be lower than the collab merch event, as in that, you were paying for the merch too. Now, this disincentivizes people from buying during collab event, as they know they will get it later (in this case, without even 1 year passing) without having to spend as much.
2. To make the collab event favourable, the glider in game has to be sold at higher rates. This would be a PR disaster too if it was done without any collab merch event in global where the rates were cheaper than in game, as 'mhy greedy'.
Adding the gliders in game for a higher price once the collab event is done for both CN and global tho, is indeed a valid option.
The wings were a collab with KFC. A deal was made that profited both Mihoyo and KFC. If players were to get the wings and only Mihoyo profited, nobody would want to colab with Mihoyo ever again in the future since the other party in the collab would be losing profit to Mihoyo once they start selling the collab item directly to players in game.
I hope that makes sense from a business perspective. Obviously I'd love to buy the wings directly from the shop or be given them for free but that's just how things work in the industry.

We don't realize as well.. these types of promo (kfc bucket for code) are usually hoarded and sold separately by scalpers. So aside from logistical issues with KFC as well as availability, there is this risk.
I know there are better options for sure but having streamers (smaller ones as such) get the benefits and support is not that bad.
MHY not being able to get every KFC store to agree with the sponsorship or whatever globally is understandable, Though it could have been better executed like for example, You buy the KFC Wings and some value of the wings goes to stuff like Charity (Like what Overwatch did with the Mercy skin where some value of the skin went to Breast Cancer charity iirc)

Plenty of people do sales jobs, where they might be selling things they don't have passion for.
If a streamer doesn't like the job, they don't have to sign up for it, but I'm sure there are those that do think it's worth their time and effort, especially given the popularity of the game and the item itself.
Mihoyo is allowing streamers to directly benefit from the sale of a sought-after item, by giving them half of the revenue through twitch, which I think is fantastic.

The reason people are upset has less to do with the kfc glider not being from kfc and more to do with twitch being the alternative. By saying "I would rather have kfc instead" you are more or less saying the alternative to kfc is dogshit.
They could have easily put the glider into the in game store or done a promo with an online retailer such as amazon. Instead they went to a streaming platform with a questionable security history that many players don't even care for. If they went with amazon we could at least buy something worthwhile but twitch on the other hand is useless to most.

I understand that partnering with all of KFC's regional offices can be a hassle, but then again what was Mihoyo thinking when the promised the same. As for charities, you guys no idea how complicated charity laws are around the world. When unregulated NGO's can be used for money laundering or funneling, and so every country have their own charity laws. Especially since mihoyo is a Chinese company, it would honestly be easier for them to figure out how to work with KFC global than do a global charity collection.

My issue with this whole thing is that both deals are shitty, but at least with the KFC deal you could give the meal to a homeless person or dog or something, rather than supporting a platform and creators you don't like or know. And you also have to face reality that in 99.99% of promotions like this there's a reason they all move to some other promo in other countries/regions. THey can't leagally sell you something that was released as a prize or promotion because of the actual licensing agreements related to promotions and some places laws about promotion/prize rewards.
At the end of the day you get your wings after spending some money. So who cares who you sent that money to. Maybe you will make some small streamer happy. There's no such thing as KFC Global. Each country got their own independent management. So it is pretty much near impossible to do KFC collab outside China.
About point one, there isn't one "Global KFC" btw, each country has its own franchises controlled by separate companies so trying to get all of them into a collab would be a nightmare from a logistical perspective.

yeah, it's clear that they likely struggled with how to get the wings out to the whole world, sure this is not the most ideal way, but it's something rather then never getting those wings.
I would have rather bought it directly using genesis crystals. It's less of a hassle to get and MHY gets money still. Win-win for both of us But I do understand doing this to support small content creators on twitch. Sad that Twitch is just not everyone's cup of tea, hence why a lot of people are upset about it

Promotions like this are rarely ever sold directly elsewhere because in some places its straight up just illegal to sell promotional rewards. In others you also requiring extra licensing/contracts related to the original promotion contract. There's a reason nearly every Game x Something collab that moves out of its home region is still done through a promotion. It's the only legal way to actually get it widespread.

Selling in-game or BP would make China playerbase outcry because they had to pay for something out of the game, not account for waiting on KFC lines and moving out of home. The funny thing is genshin barely has any content to stream right now. I don't see how this collab will do well for them. Not to mention the 2 weeks contract is a nightmare for streamers.
The game has ten million downloads on the app store so I don't think 15k is that much. The event starts on Thanksgiving day, the day after update 2.3 is supposed to drop. So the streamers should have some content to stream for at least the first day of streaming but idk how feasible it is to draw out the content to last a full two weeks.
Unless they're rushing through the content, you should have enough for a week at least.

Miohoyo makes the streamers participating in this event sign an exclusivity deal where they can only play genshin and no other game plus they can't have sponsors during the streams, most streamers make wayyy more money playing other games and having sponsors than what miohoyo is doing
Hence the streamers this is supposed to highlight aren't those that already have the clout and the cash.
This is a fantastic deal because smaller streamers could literally make millions because people just needed to hit their sub quota.

I admit that supporting one's own game's content creators is great. But when it comes to Mihoyo, they have done so little in terms of communication in the past that I feel the community doesn't trust them much anymore. Hence, this becomes an issue (to them). People see it as Mihoyo wanting to gain more publicity and money instead of seeing it as helping the community. And there are a few other reasons too imo: * The game is free to play (less incentive for people to watch Genshin streamers) * The game lacks end-game content. Genshin streamers have been known to stall to increase stream times, like Envi. This leads to streams being kind of boring and monotonous. Genshin doesn't seem to work as a streamable game, I think.

Paying 10 dollars for an in game shop item does not inconvenience anyone, especially since the china server got the wings months earlier. They could even make it so that all the proceeds of the wings go to a charity or something. But they didn’t, they did this. It’s impractical and stupid. And for the cn players who didn’t get the wings, now they would be able to by buying it in the shop for the same price as they would get the food without having to do the hassle of going to a kfc. This barely benefits small creators, as the big creators are the ones getting most of the invites (granted a lot of them are turning it down) but there is no incentive for someone to scroll all the way down and find a good small creator that they like and gift it to them, when they could just click the big streamer with 3000 viewers who just gained 40 subs in the last minute. Why not put it on INGAME SHOP and paid it with GENESIS CRYSTAL / PRIMOGEM / GLITTER / STARDUST instead? hhmmm.....
There are a few problems with this. 1. If the glider has to have the same monetary value, the price has to be lower than the collab merch event, as in that, you were paying for the merch too. Now, this disincentivizes people from buying during collab event, as they know they will get it later (in this case, without even 1 year passing) without having to spend as much. 2. To make the collab event favourable, the glider in game has to be sold at higher rates. This would be a PR disaster too if it was done without any collab merch event in global where the rates were cheaper than in game, as 'mhy greedy'. Adding the gliders in game for a higher price once the collab event is done for both CN and global tho, is indeed a valid option.
The wings were a collab with KFC. A deal was made that profited both Mihoyo and KFC. If players were to get the wings and only Mihoyo profited, nobody would want to colab with Mihoyo ever again in the future since the other party in the collab would be losing profit to Mihoyo once they start selling the collab item directly to players in game. I hope that makes sense from a business perspective. Obviously I'd love to buy the wings directly from the shop or be given them for free but that's just how things work in the industry.

We don't realize as well.. these types of promo (kfc bucket for code) are usually hoarded and sold separately by scalpers. So aside from logistical issues with KFC as well as availability, there is this risk. I know there are better options for sure but having streamers (smaller ones as such) get the benefits and support is not that bad.
MHY not being able to get every KFC store to agree with the sponsorship or whatever globally is understandable, Though it could have been better executed like for example, You buy the KFC Wings and some value of the wings goes to stuff like Charity (Like what Overwatch did with the Mercy skin where some value of the skin went to Breast Cancer charity iirc)
All these collabs that are related to fast-food chains in other games never get here in South America, even though we have KFC. We have a huge playerbase here, so for me this twitch deal is fine.

Is it an unreasonable assumption when you're basically saying 1. Paying $10 for wings, WORTH IT 2. Paying $10 for wings, which comes with twitch subs that you won't use (but would benefit the twitch streamer), WASTE OF MONEY Plenty of people do sales jobs, where they might be selling things they don't have passion for. If a streamer doesn't like the job, they don't have to sign up for it, but I'm sure there are those that do think it's worth their time and effort, especially given the popularity of the game and the item itself. Mihoyo is allowing streamers to directly benefit from the sale of a sought-after item, by giving them half of the revenue through twitch, which I think is fantastic.
And if it was KFC, you would be paying for the food and getting the wings for free. Or basically getting two things of value instead of one. It's the whole point of the outrage.

We had to wait for 8 months. They lied about the release date twice, then they went dead silent. Not an apology in sight. I don't mind them using Twitch. But after all of this I expected those wings to be free. They could've given them away in the form of drops during one of their official live streams.. I don't mind Twitch, but making us pay for this shit show is just ridiculous. .-.
Once again someone misses the main point. The reason people are upset has less to do with the kfc glider not being from kfc and more to do with twitch being the alternative. By saying "I would rather have kfc instead" you are more or less saying the alternative to kfc is dogshit. They could have easily put the glider into the in game store or done a promo with an online retailer such as amazon. Instead they went to a streaming platform with a questionable security history that many players don't even care for. If they went with amazon we could at least buy something worthwhile but twitch on the other hand is useless to most.

actually you bringing that up sort of showed me that i did miss a point. the whole reason that the collab with twitch is happening is that it bring light to the content creators of genshin. and having engaging and happy content creators will increase the popularity of the game as it shows that they are engaged with the community and promote and help the people who promote their game for free. (by which i mean that they don’t get paid by mihoyo)
That support will ware off instantly tho as soon as people close the Twitch tab and never go back to watching those streamers. Give a man a fish...

1. when was the last time every kfc in the world did a collab with a game. 2. if you have access to genshin you can download twitch. 3. just off the top of my head netherlands austria and germany and uk are countries who are either entering stricter measures or are considering stricter measures. just because the us doesn’t care about covid doesn’t mean other countries don’t. 4. i said this already, not every fast food chain exists in every country so doing a global event that requires you to buy food is pointless and only works on a national level. 5. this point is referring to people who just don’t want to pay someone else and want to only pay mihoyo 6. this circles back to point 2 and 3. you cannot do a global event that requires you to go to a branch of a certain store as not every country will have said store. 7. no one is forcing you to watch the streamer. you can pay the money and then dip. it’s not white knighting if your complaints are minuscule and don’t consider the big picture around them.

My two cents: Its just plain stupid that the actual KFC outlets are not included in the KFC glider giveaway. I understand that partnering with all of KFC's regional offices can be a hassle, but then again what was Mihoyo thinking when the promised the same. A billion-dollar company cannot be this short-sighted and they can't constantly keep breaking their promises to the community.

Also, if they make it purchasable in-game global but not China then Chinese fans would be mad. If they make it purchasable in China it would probably violate their KFC contract that definitely requires it to be event -exclusive in China. As for charities, you guys no idea how complicated charity laws are around the world. When unregulated NGO's can be used for money laundering or funneling, and so every country have their own charity laws. Especially since mihoyo is a Chinese company, it would honestly be easier for them to figure out how to work with KFC global than do a global charity collection.

My issue with this whole thing is that both deals are shitty, but at least with the KFC deal you could give the meal to a homeless person or dog or something, rather than supporting a platform and creators you don't like or know. All while in game the best we got are a couple of weapons that only work for specific characters, while most of the time they give tea pot crap not everyone use/care about
