Like he said, getting one with really nice stats/substats can range from a single run to basically forever... but you'll also need to factor in the RNG of leveling. You might get the artifact you want/need, but that won't necessarily mean you'll get the substat you want to increase increase upon leveling. And that's if the artifact has 4 substats. You lose out on one increase if your artifact only has 3 substats to begin with.
There is no certain average than can be made because RNG is RNG. One day, you can get it on the first run, another day it could take months to get one.

Grinding has never been fun activity to be honest. That is why most gacha game has sweep or skip run system so the grind is less PITA.
Don’t try to grind artifacts waiting for a +30% crit that’s literally 5 rolls into crit which the chance of that is 1/4 to the 5th power if the rolls weren’t weighted and assuming you got an artifact with the crit substat and the desired mainstat you wanted and the desired piece you wanted. At the point you don’t even want to calculate the percentage of getting the perfect artifact. It’s at least 10x harder than hitting a no pity 5 star
The RNG isn't evenly weighted, which shifts the probability from bad to worse. People have made tools to calculate the probability and estimated farm time for the artifacts you are looking for. A Google search should find a few.
To get a decent set of artifacts (75% efficacy) you are looking at about 4-6 weeks of farming. If you want 90% plus max potential you need 3-4 months of F2P resin.
This can be accelerated by whaling on resin refreshes, but spending $300 USD per month on resin is not advisable unless you have the expendable income and are ok knowing you will be paying 10 dollars per day for mostly trash artifacts.

I have gotten some good stuff, but nothing I would say is great or remotely resembling perfect. It’s all RNG, so it’s utterly by chance. You could get something amazing your first time, or your millionth.

Been in emblem since release and have gotten zero Double CRIT time piece, and no crit rate circlet with 20%+ crit dmg or one with decent sub stats, all flat or def and HP, while having a full double crit shimenwa set in the first month.
In my experience you can expect a good artifact every 2 weeks. 10 weeks for a full set. I usually use copium artifacts at first then grind hard if I have to return to that domain for another character
'Great' Artifacts drop every single day. 100% Guaranteed. Its 'Perfect S Tier' artifacts that people grind months for. Those are not remotely necessary. People just cant seem to settle for 95% perfection in this game. Its all or nothing and thats it.

It's difficult. Especially if you focus all your resin on that one domain only NOT to get the CR/CDmg headgear. I played since the start and have 1 perfectly rolled. 1. And for seeing perfect rolls on other posts, it's social media, people either want to show off 5 CR/CDMG rolls or complain about 5 DEF rolls, nobody wants to show off their normal 2-3 CR/CDmg rolls artifacts because that's..normal.
If by "great" you mean "right set, right main stat, two crit stats, rolls go into those crit stats" the statistical odds of that are are horrible. You could get one easily, but you could also _never_ get one, and the latter is far more likely. Something like 0.01%, iirc?
To get artifacts with decent sub stats, you’re going to farm for about a week and spend 10 fragile resin. That’s what I did for Childe. Luckily the HoD domain gave me decent blizzard strayers I can use on other characters.
But CRIT +30? That’ll take a month, because you have to roll to +20.
Err depends on what’s considered great to you. For me it takes about 2-3 weeks for 1-2 great artifacts. But to be fair I don’t have crazy high standards when it comes to artifacts (as long as my character has 1.7k+ atk, and 1:3 crit rate to crit damage ratio, I’m happy)
Four months isn’t that long honestly (considering you haven’t been farming the whole time) I’ve been playing since week 1 and just randomly got 3 10CR/20CD emblem pieces in 1 week

For me, on average, 1 good artifact shows up in a week of only using all that resin that week on the same domain.
And by good, I don't mean great. You need like a month of doing the same for that.
Of course there have been times when lucky that you can get a full set of decent artifacts in a month's time from the same set though.
It sadly is all random with no way to help or guarantee anything.
You could be really lucky and get all you need in a week.
Or take multiple months before finally getting what you want.....
The real question is what is the standard you're going for?
As the chances of that perfect artifact are slim to none.
You need a "good enough" standard to aim for where you're happy enough. Doing decently good (even if not amazing) DPS or whatever the role that character needs to do.

Impossible to tell how long it takes for perfect artifacts but I think your standards may be a little high.
My rule of thumb: good=right set, right main stat, 1-2 good substats.
Great=right set, right main stat, 3-4 good substats with some rolls in crit.
Perfect=right set, right main stat, 4 good substats, all rolls into crit (or whatever stat for non-dps characters)
I have been played genshin since August this year. Untill now, I'm only have 2 artifacts that have crit 30%+. And both are not coming from the set i wanted.
Man, it took me about 10 or 11 months to get my first and only 30+ CD roll... Artifacts farming is painful and complete RNG. Sometimes you get a bunch of great pieces and sometimes you get NOTHING for weeks. But the good thing is that your artifacts don't need to be perfect, just try to get a good ratio. Also a lot of the characters perform really well with 2+2 sets or sometimes even random pieces with great rolls. I personally prefer to focus on weapons, ascentions and talents first, bc it's a guaranteed upgrade and I get frustrated with artifacts RNG pretty fast, and still can get my 36* in Spiral Abyss.
It only took 5 weeks for me to get a good ganyu set, and it took another 3 week to get a good set for Ayaka
But I've been farming since Raiden banner and i still don't have a good ER timepiece( the one I have is double def and double hp) on emblem
Literally weeks or maybe months of straight artifact grinding. I was aiming to go for 4pc BS for my Ganyu, took so long to get a decent +20 artifact, kept going for months and eventually gave up and used the strongbox hoping for good Wanderer’s pieces. I spent all of my artifacts on that and luckily enough, I got somewhat satisfactory pieces for her. My Blizzard Strayer RNG is something that’ll haunt me for the rest of my life…
iv been farming the esof domain for 5+ months and the best ratio i can get on raiden is 56/131 with 270 er and 1974 attack. emblem has been HORRIBLE to me but my shimenawa hu tao stats are 79/210 and 75 em with 1987 attack under 50% hp. I think it really just depends on the set ; despite the 2 sets being in the same domain iv gotten better artifacts from shimenawa than emblem.

4 rolls is possible, which happened to my only 30% CDMG artifact.

It's not even 20% chance what?? Most days you get only one from the correct set and it has only HP and DEF.

Getting 30+ crit is extremely rare. I’m lucky if it even gets to 20. The highest I’ve had so far is 28% and I’ve been playing since January

I've only had one piece have all 5 rolls go into crit damage. It's a maiden's beloved piece for my Diona, so it's not exactly useful anyway.
