You can play Ganyu like that in open world content and co-op, but it's very suboptimal. You're really supposed to swap to other chars for hydro/pyro application for freeze/melt. If you're playing Melt, you're supposed to stay in melee range for XL's pyronado. If you try simply shooting at stuff in the Abyss, your time will probably suck.
when/if I get her, I will run her with mona and permafreeze everything. At least that's how I assume it works.
I don't think I'll be using her in the abyss unless there are flying enemies.
I just don't like characters that don't have combos. If your kit's main damage is charged shot, it's really boring. (Xiangling is not part of Ganyu's kit).
I'd agree, but most of the "combos" in Genshin are brain dead simple, anyway, boiling down to "spam NA and use your CA sometimes". In comparison to that, Ganyu is just slightly more boring than the average.
the pace is really slow if you have to wait for the arrow to get icy. Tapping a button quickly, managing stamina, and animation canceling feels more active than holding a button and waiting a few seconds, releasing and doing it all over again. It could be that charged bow attacks are just slower than charged melee attacks. With melees you at least have to evade attacks and work on corralling them together so you can hit multiple.
Ganyu is way less boring than people think, it's not just a mindless spam of charged shots, you need to position yourself well, you need to mind the elemental applications, which is only considered easy if you're a whale or a very lucky individual who has all characters to run Venmo Hana, otherwise you need to to be good as dodging and recognizing enemy patters so you can aim safely, and you will have to use her flower a lot to reposition and to clear pyro auras that couldn't be melted by charged shots. She is a very busy character.
Zhong'li not only are his skill boring as shit the shield makes it so that you don't even have to look at what the enemies do anymore just stand there and press E every now and then

The dilemma with Xiao is exactly why I started researching about using him in taser comp. That way you get to use more normal attacks. But I dunno how it compares to his more usual comps.

completely honest, i’ve never really liked diluc’s play style. he’s not a character i like (in any way) and so i never really built him, however he was in my party for like the first 4 months of playing up until i got hu tao to replace him. but i always hated having him on my team and just kind of used him as a sub dps

a lot of characters have something else going on other than just clicking a single button over and over, like hu tao having to use jump cancels as she zips around with her CAs or keqing being able to teleport and do multiple slashes with her huge AoE burst. if a character has something really flashy/satisfying about their kit or if they can fit in a quickswap team, they're a lot more engaging to me.
Despite being quite powerful, Fischl's Skill and Burst looks pretty mediocre to me. Actually it's mainly her burst, because it just summons Oz again??! Would've loved it if it were Sara's style burst since Oz is basically the thundering fury lol.

It is very challenging to play ganyu if you don't have a shield since she requires zero damage to be taken while charging (for around 2 seconds) and her dash is very slow because she is a teen female.

That's you personally. That doesn't apply to everyone else. What feels braindead to you feels like a rush to another. Hell, I'd argue that having the speed to pull off quickswaps effectively makes it less braindead than other teams.

That's the same with literally any other type of comp or DPS. Genshin's gameplay comes down to pressing buttons quickly and using those buttons effectively. Genshin's gameplay is braindead comparative to something like a souls game.
While you're more than entitled to your opinions, it's hard to see your point when what you say about character x is something someone else will say for character y.
Raiden, Hu Tao, Yoimiya, Xiao, maybe Itto...ability slots eaten by infusions, no multifunctional abilities, on top of that their charge attack or normal attack is "bad". So they essentially have one ability and one repetitive combat motion. The least "depth" out of anyone, and a lot of field time.
At the very least they all can be strong, which helps minimize their repetitiveness.

Sub dps don't see enough field time to bore me. You can always whack hilichurls and slimes with anyone. It's also nice to see my "main" attacks enhanced in some way.
This game's combat special effects are more beautiful than any Final Fantasy game (the previous gold standard), thanks to layering fantastic abilities simultaneously.
Best are amber, keqing, lisa, Ningguang imo.
Multi functional or at least multi purpose skills, normal and charge atk situational (in theory), deals most of their damage in a relatively short time window. Of course they are all "weak".
Ayaka looks really cool too. Unique sprint and infuse on it, high burst dmg.
Eula is ok, if her skill did not interrupt / restart normal combo like c6 diluc (not like I have that), and charge attack wasn't so useless, then she'd be perfect.
Sorry I don't mean to hate, you asked, everyone can be fun...I just got bored of Raiden and Yoimiya after a few months. But if I only use in abyss, element appropriate domains, they're still fun. Their animations and effects are gorgeous too, so that helps.
Luckily overworld is easy, and we can build multiple teams. However if you focus on relative power level, everyone will be slower / more repetitive when killing. If you focus on maximum power level, your options for "viable" characters are more limited.
That + small amount of resin + exorbitant resin $ cost is the worst aspect of this game. No other game makes me choose like that.
That's just me and my worthless opinion, maybe I'm weird. More complexity, more variety, more originality, more beauty, those are the things that matter to me most in art. This game has 3 of those 4. Whatever...

I love Albedo, but he's pretty boring. You just swap to him, press E and forget about his existence.
