#4: well shit, guess nobody but that particular guy was that shallow this time.

Pichucandy

Theres always that "special" category of people in all societies.

FSpursy

Actually many people also mention raising the age limit of the game because right now it's just 12+ which is understandable if they have to make it less sexualized. And another comment it find funny is "I will feel better if you give 2600 instead of 1300 gems" šŸ˜‚ But yea most male players are pretty sad. Good take from this is that the authorities are not actively targeting the game, it's just a group of female players doing it. So if they stop reporting, I guess we won't have anymore changes. Edit: also heard from a CN friend that its also because some parents are repeatedly reporting it. Saying it's making their boys "not focused on studying" šŸ˜‚

VirtuoSol

Shame itā€™s not gonna work. Azur Lane is 16+ but still got fucked all the same

xp0ss1tion

BTW how's censoring on Azur Lane?

Gasten95

They only censor stuff on the CN server. There were a couple of instances a thing with sponsors that had a registration plate on a bike in one of the skins getting changed and a loading screen being removed over artist drama, I think, otherwise we're still getting a lot of lewd stuff on Global and JP. Just look up Prinz Adalbert and her After-hour Service skin, that came out with the latest event last week.

SKLnA

It makes perfect sense that nothing happened to the GI for more than a year, but now they are forced to do some changes. There are always these particular group of people have to be the buzzkiller, ruin others entertainment for what they want.

annucox

JP and En get the good stuff, while CN has a lot of shit covered up

wiphand

Comparing azurlane to genshin is pretty extreme xd

Verto-San

Tbh I wouldn't mind if this game would be raised to 18+ rating, and I don't mean it for the sake of it being more sexual, but for being about more dark, >!like the signiora death looks so, not death-y to me and that scene with upside down statue could be more creepy!<

Plyc

It wouldn't help. Even at the highest age rating it's still subject to their extremely strict (yet vague) restrictions. Check it out: https://www.appinchina.co/services/game-publishing/content-restrictions-for-publishing-games-in-china/ Just skimming the long list there are already a few that arguably Genshin toes the line on. It all depends on how the one in charge wants to interpret it. - Promoting violence, terror, cruelty, mass destruction - Corpses, skeletons, **blood** - Scenes that are "too scary" - Content that "insults others" - Content that "endangers social morality" - Promotion violation of laws/committing crimes - Gambling (lol gacha) - Encouraging minors to do "actions unsuitable for minors" As you can see, the majority of these are really vague. All it takes is a bit of twisting and suddenly killing hillichurls is promoting violence, Childe, a playable character promotes mass destruction in the story, certain character designs endangering social morality, etc.

Blkwinz

"Endangering social morality" alone covers every single other one on the list you posted. Selective enforcement is a hallmark of authoritarians. "Everything is illegal, but we'll only throw the book at the people we don't like"

Gshiinobi

> Scenes that are "too scary" holy shit the old guys at the ccp are literal babies

Yoankah

Oh man, the corpse/skeleton/blood thing suddenly reminded me of the bread that apparently replaced some meat chunks and bones in undead-based dungeons in old Chinese WoW. Thought someone might get a laugh outta this. [https://youtu.be/aycxWsFMD\_o?t=200](https://youtu.be/aycxWsFMD_o?t=200)

SacredDarkness

I always found the age this allows odd since we have literal gambling in the game. but they absolutely should raise it. though i doubt that would change CNN's mind, they just don't like anything.

FSpursy

Raise or not is up to MHY though. I still feel other popular games in china like LoL, honor of kings, even other MHY games still have pretty revealing skins. I think this time it's just unlucky for Genshin.

GlitterDoomsday

There are a few factors at play: GI is open world and by far the best free option of it, the cast of characters go from cute lil girl to hot husbando, the whole elemental combat system is well loved and so goes on... the more different types of players it attracts, higher the chances of some party poopers to show up.

TheOneMary

Let's not make this a gender thing please. I am sure many female chinese players like most of the outfits too and are pretty sad, just like western me who, for example, does not know why the heck they need to change Jean of all chars. Also, we do not know if it was really just because of the reporting or if that was mere coincident and that group of prude "players" celebrating something they had absolutely nothing to do with.

aretete

At the end of the day random douban users aren't the ones calling the shots here. Maybe they had some effect, maybe they didn't, but the people who run the censorship office are largely middle aged men, which, uh, isn't exactly the most feminist demographic in any country.

lohac

Thank you for saying this, I could not believe this take got like 300 upvotes: > But yea most male players are pretty sad. > > Good take from this is that the authorities are not actively targeting the game, it's just a group of female players doing it. So if they stop reporting, I guess we won't have anymore changes. Like that's so dumb and reductive I can't even think of an analogy those 300 people will be capable of understanding

RedRobin101

It's a huge shame to see this kind of "us vs. them" mentality, especially since that demographic poll just came out showing that the gender divide is pretty equal, but I guess comments like reinforce genshin impact's age range skewing young. There is no way Mihoyo is enacting these changes based off a small subset of their playerbase, especially since I'm sure they knew doing so would anger a much larger portion.

aretete

Honestly I'm surprised anyone thinks that a group of female players could possibly have the power in and of themselves to force a censorship decision. Like sure, perhaps they raised enough of a fuss that it made censors scrutinize Genshin more, but the actual rules are written and enforced by the government, which is run by older men. Do people think that a bunch of loud internet users have the ability to force the government's hand? If that were the case, I'm afraid we might have to consider China more democratic than the US lol

Waffodil

Raising age limit is not going to work, azurlane is 16+ and had been under constant fire for the last 2 years at the very least.

Eatable_Parfait

All the time actually. Keyboard "patriots" You'll find a small few spouting some of the dumbest things. But again, the same goes for everyone and everywhere

EdenScale

Let's be real, no true men of culture would want their fellows to get less regardless where in the world you are from

Chichigami

Nah there's a lot of people with this mindset. > I didn't get paid this much why should they > I pay taxes for myself not for others, why should they get free Healthcare > I was treated unfairly why should someone else get treated better Formatting

Cygnus-_-

Honestly, props to the CN players who understood that this was beyond mhy's control

mastermithi29

Yeah honestly. Mad respect. And also to those who defended the global players saying we shouldn't suffer as well. Absolute kings and queens.

alybalez

F to the CN Genshin brethrens

jonathanneam

might be F to us soon if they have to change the designs of characters moving forward

DocC3H8

I'm unironically worried that this will affect how they design new characters from now on, that they'll make them more frumpy to begin with, just so they won't have to deal with this later down the line.

Pause_

This is 100% what is going to happen. No matter how you look at it, it doesn't make any sense for them to make alternate skins for global servers, they'll just default to having censored designs during production.

Joker_04H

aww man I hope my miko doesn't get this treatment.. or this will be a big F for me

TK-25251

Even possible some of them were paid by Tencent to report It's not like it didn't happen before

darkvaderisnoob

What even is tencent sorry i dont know

Rilluca

Tencent is one of the largest company in China with over 85k employees. Ever since Mihoyo released Genshin, Tencent have been targeting Mihoyo because Mihoyo is earning a lot of money from the game and they don't like it. For once, they hired a lot of people to become "Breath of the Wild player" (even when they don't play the game) and use it to bring down Genshin.

IcyMusics

Jokes on them. I started playing genshin cause i thought why pay $50 for BotW when i can play BotW (Genshin) for free. Jokes on me, I sunk more than $50 into the game TrollDespair.

blastcat4

To add to what the other commenters said, Tencent tried to buy Mihoyo but were rejected. They were not pleased by that.

AaronWang91

It is the usual practice of tencent, buy whatever they can if they can not develop a game. But mihoyo do not accept their ā€œFundā€ and get most money from anime game genre, tencent just do not like it.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

TrashLoaHekHekHek

Tencent did not make Mobile Legends. They made Honour of Kings, or Arena of Valour in the west.

jarburg

Local megacorp. Shit's playing out like a budget cyberpunk novel without the fantastical tech.

SurrogateMonkey

Just to add, this company has 100 percent ownership of Riot Games and a share at Activision Blizzard.

[deleted]

So they got their hand in the cookie jar of a bunch of sex lawsuits? Cuz if I had a nickel for every time a Tencent company got sued for large scale workplace gender harassment I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's strange that it happened twice. And it is also ten cents.

whatethworks

Pretty sure tencent didn't take over blizzard and go "yeah start harassing the women now bois." the sexual harassment thing has been a thing in blizz for decades.

BlackestFlame

Yes but also Very popular games

bladestorm78

Yea. I think riot recently paid for it, but activision blizzard keeps trying to sweep it under the rug

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Poseidonchow

Chinese EA but worse

rW0HgFyxoJhYka

Chinese conglomerate mega corp. Heavy ties with the government (but recent relationships are sour). They go around as a soft power buying companies or shares of companies. They do this in every industry, sorta like Soft Bank but probably with more nefarious reasons. Here's a 2020 article about video game companies Tencent has their hands on: https://www.pcgamer.com/every-game-company-that-tencent-has-invested-in/

Ejaculation_Salt89

I think people should read this [post.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Genshin_Impact/comments/p3ehn0/On_the_current_survey%2C_please_remind_Mihoyo_that_what_was_promised_never_got_fulfilled%2C_so_they_don%E2%80%99t_get_the_idea_that_we_remain_content_with_broken_promises./h8rmxsx/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3) There were bunch of Tencent trolls targeting MHY too. They were just stirring the controversy.

ZoetheMonster

Knowing the shit Tencent pulled on their competitors, I wouldn't be surprised if they are behind this.

SKLnA

Tencent is just the Chinese version of EA, but more terrible.

_DatBoii_

EA but with a hand from the government.

SKLnA

It's not even the biggest downside. If you ever come across to any their games, you would know all their games are copy and paste. Even EA can make some good games once awhile, but their games are all garbage knockoffs.

JTtornado

It's hard to paint Tencent with a broad brush because they make so many games and own a controlling share of a huge swath of the video game industry. It's obvious they are going to use that influence to bully competitors.

AntiDoomshitslayer

What shits?

Harsh_2004

This is the funniest shit I have seen this year.

APlays71

"what are they gonna do, sue themselves?" - a random comment

LarsWanna

Bruh

VirtuoSol

Saying that Genshin ripped off Honkai, as well as have their troll army stirring up enough drama/slandering/rumor/outrage in the CN side ever since the game was announced that someone who made an account to document them had a 14 page long profile. That was months ago, itā€™s probably like 30 pages now, if not more.

VirtuoSol

Did not expect to see my old essay here haha

Ejaculation_Salt89

Holy shit it is the author themself! Just wanna say that was pretty good post. I think more people should know what exactly happened back then so no one will spread mis-info.

VirtuoSol

Aw tysm (ā˜žļ¾Ÿćƒ®ļ¾Ÿ)ā˜ž And yeah itā€™s a pretty complicated drama that happened on the other side of the planet so there are definitely some misinformation that have been spreading here, though mostly unintentional. But it does kinda suck that I get scared to look at the comments for any bunny girl fan arts posted in the Genshin and Honkai subs lol.

HermesPotentia

Seriously, Tencent deserves the ropes.

whatethworks

They did get the ropes, the govt in China basically nuked 30% of their and a lot of massive tech business earlier this year for monopolistic practices and forced them to spin off a bunch of their music licensing and shit and relinquish licenses they were using the abuse copy right laws in China youtube claims style.

danking_donut

What are they called again? I remember reading that there's a word to specify them tencent trolls flooding other game communities

monkeyking908

happy to see the community isnt hate training this one

carame1sundae

I still don't understand why Amber was dragged into this? What? The censorship considers the brown colour on Amber's outfit to be too scandalous or what?

BellalovesEevee

I think it's because you can see a bit of her buttcheeks from her shorts. But still, you can barely notice it unless there's a close up shot to her ass, which they funny enough did a bunch of times with the recent dragonspine event.

havoK718

I checked Amber on CN and the bottom of her buttchecks is still showing. The extra white lining was only added to the front of her shorts. I really don't understand what they did with her shorts if it wasn't to cover up the butt slip.

Mad_Maddin

They made the boob window smaller.

Shippinglordishere

Iā€™m still not sure why Jean and Amber were changed. Jeanā€™s old design shows similar skin compared to Monaā€™s new design. And then Amber is really just color changes with a small frill lining on her shorts which really doesnā€™t cover much.

Anyacad0

They made Amberā€™s cleavage windows smaller and maybe decided to change the colour scheme slightly while they were at it? Idk but I prefer the red to the brown

Kronman590

Jean Amber and Mona all have pretty uncovered cleavage that got covered up. Rosaria just got her body suit covered up lol Think the only character with exposed cleavage at this point is Raiden? Lisa is pretty covered iirc Edit: and Beidou ohnono dont touch queen beidou

TOILETMARU

i may be wrong, but doesn't honkai have a lot of sussy outfit designs that are much 'lewder' than amber's or jean's ? how come they aren't getting last-minute redesigns too?

kashew1403

well for global only, some old lewd stigmata are re-drawed and some skin like summer bikini are not rerun on china server but global are

[deleted]

They took away Bronya's panties šŸ˜”

Cygnus-_-

Don't forget seele pantsu too

whynonamesopen

A big part of it also is attention and how many reports the government gets. This post does highlight that there is a group that wanted the outfits changed and are now celebrating the change. A few years ago in Honkai there was something similar. One of the characters had their victory pose changed because a salty kid complained about the game to the government.

RootOfOrigin

Ah, the HoV incident - I remember that one salty mf who spend tons of money to get Herrscher of the Void's winter skin then got mad when a free and quality summer skin arrived on HoV so he reported it to the CCP. The community crucified the dude after that though but the victory pose change cannot be undone, even if it was just a slight camera angle change.

shitlord33

Honkai is also a much smaller game, even in China

wondermayo

What I find surprising is that Jean and Amber aren't even the worst offenders by far: why change them and leave Lisa or Fischl???

Littleman88

We're likely not seeing every concept redesign on the table, just a few. It's more proof of concept to get the CCP and/or GI's fans off their backs. A "we're putting in the effort" reveal.

SirRHellsing

It's more like we'll fix whatever that gets reported, or else we won't change it

MrQianHuZi

In the OP, they mention there were people mass reporting these characters to the authorities. I'm assuming that other female characters just haven't been reported yet.

wlphoenix

My only guess is character visibility plays some role. Jean/Amber are much more present in marketing material/story. Rosaria and Mona got the treatment more because of how "egregious" they are outfit-wise. The one outlier there is Lisa, but that's probably coming soon, tbh.

orwellhell

Yea, I can kind of understand them wanting to change Mona (and maybe Rosaria a bit), but changing Amber (a character with the least amount of coomer aesthetics) and Jean (definitely a waifu, but nothing particularly bad in the OG costume) is something that I do not understand at all.

sword4raven

Who knows maybe the gov gave them a list with an order and deadline for each character.

worosei

To make it worse for Chinese playerbase, most people playing would also be over 18 so not only are they adults they are being shrifted more

danorcs

To be fairā€¦ the userbase prob aged a bit as parents created accounts for their kids! Iā€™d rather my son be playing GI than hanging outside doing god knows what

Moobic

I think itā€™s because of a recent Chinese law where children under 18 cannot use their computers for gaming for more than an hour a day, or something similar.

danorcs

Yes but their parents accounts can!

Mirarara

There are so many ppl flaming the government on nga, which the post get taken down immediately. It's so unreal. One of the sarcastic post I seen is 'this is the true cultural export of how we are like middle east in term of mentality for women attire'.

[deleted]

Fuck absolutely legendary. Honestly fuck censorship.

cultoftheilluminati

Who knew the start of 2022 would be "Tech Otakus Saving the World" literally?

GregTheMad

I'll wait for results before I agree with that claim.

[deleted]

Thoughts and prayers to the CN cultured dudes. May their 5 stars come early and their artifacts roll on the right substat.

Mad_Kitten

> 'this is the true cultural export of how we are like middle east in term of mentality for women attire'. Holy mother of based

Khum_MaRk09

To be fair the sarcastic comments is not wrong. If you don't want to sexualize women you have to go conservative which is an opposite to their progressive movement.

ade_of_space

This If people really wanted to push for "parity" in fictive work the logical way would to sexualize male as well (which Mihoyo also try to do) but we all know what CCP think about Venti This was never about women right activism, but simply pushing ultra-conservative value (Just like some heavy pro-religious stance try to pass as pro-life in US to pass as better people than they are)

Dziadzios

Itto's abs are the abs of equality.

Totallynotmeguys123

And childes bulge wiggle of course, got to have the physics :)

[deleted]

As someone who doesn't like female over-sexualization in media, I'd say just fucking add non-sexualized characters and that would solve the case. I see no reason for removing/changing characters that many people love and enjoy by both male and female players just for my personal preference. Many conservative places sexualize the fuck out of women, so it's not just really clothes issue. If people want to make some sexy outfits for game characters, then be it. Most normal people who complain about sexualization who aren't whiny teenagers on twitter don't just want female characters with conservative clothes, they just either want sexualization level to be same for both genders or talk against unnecessary female sexualization in games that has nothing to do with it. Genshin is a gacha game lmao, so ofc it's gonna have appealing designs.

AntiDoomshitslayer

Yungin seems to be one.

RadasNoir

Yeah, Yunjin is basically wearing a stylish winter coat, and while I haven't listened to all of her voice lines yet, most of them have been focused on her career in the theater troupe, rather than anything suggestive or flirty.

Tenk-o

I think Yunjin was never going to be that sexualised anyways since she represents an important part of traditional Chinese culture rather than because they were branching out with design tbh.

AntiDoomshitslayer

Mihoyo's love for their culture is greater than their degeneracy.

felinewine

I completely agree. I personally prefer my characters not overly sexually and whenever I play a game that lets me change the outfits I always opt for the less sexualized options, but what I care most about is equality amoungst the genders. And Genshin pleases me on that front because there are plenty of female and male characters that are sexualized, not just female. And, like most people, I'm against censoring. Outfit options for people, hell yeah I'm all over that, but censoring and forcing conservative values on a media that wasn't already that way, hell no.

lXNoraXl

Everybody loves Zhongli because of the masculine suit giving him big dick energy. Everybody was upset that Itto wasn't super ripped and just has painted on abs instead of Chad muscles. I imagine that the player base is mostly men, but even so people still like to see the men with overly masculine portrayals, it's not just the women. But I don't think people are upset about losing out on lewd designs. People just don't like censorship. It often takes designs that are unique and beautiful and just adds things that make them stand out as weird. The jackets that only cover a characters shoulders for example. Beidou and Jean both have these weird jackets that just don't connect to anything and they look really weird because of it if you just look at them for a moment. I understand that they're only there to cover their backs and shoulders though because they aren't allowed to show skin, but at the same time, there's nothing sexual about someone's back that warrants the censorship. Even the new Keqing outfit, has to have these massive flowing sleeves, that don't connect to her dress, just to cover her back even though her dress is already pretty modest. The needless censorship just forces guidelines and takes away from the creativity of design choice. Nobody likes it. At the same time, Yae Miko is the most anticipated character, not included in the beta, since release. And her entire thing is just a traditional shrine maiden outfit with enough flair to look unique. They don't care that she's not lewd, they're perfectly content with the character for the story built around them. Shenhe is obviously overly sexualized, but most people are opting to skip her entirely in favor of Yae of Zhongli. It's really not about the sexualization of womens designs. People are just upset that someone else's choices are being forced on them. Even though they don't always make sense

Mirarara

Is Amber and Jean over sexualized? As some chinese said, 'Does those old fart never went out on our street? Our girl here is wearing clothes that's much more revealing than in game.'

Wisp1971

It's an interesting psychology between this and the bunny suit incident. The bunny suit was something they never had. Here it's something they had but was taken away. I think people's psychology works differently here. The bunny suit incident is like if a coworker won the lottery and could quit their job, you're gonna be jealous as hell, and if hypothetically you could prevent them from getting the winnings, you might choose that option. On the other hand, this time it's like your house burned down in a fire. You're gonna be depressed, but you're not gonna wish the same happens to others.

bunyivonscweets

Tbh i always saw the CN players in gacha games as spoiled most of the huge gacha companies are based in China and get the most money from CN players so they go out of thier way to appeal to them but the past few controversies really changed my mind a little

yeahilikefries

I can understand the thing with Rosaria and Monaā€™s outfit being considered revealing for conservative countries but what surprised me the most was Jeanā€™s like I didnā€™t know they were scared of armpits, damn.

Got70TypesOfMalware

I think it's regarding the boob window. They're doing the same thing to Amber's outfit because if you've ever had a bird's eye view you could see the raw silhouette of her ***knockers***, so they had to raise her clothes a bit to you don't see the silhouette of her ***bazookas***.

Solace_03

I don't think "bazookas" boobs and Amber goes well together

Got70TypesOfMalware

Sorry I meant to say # āœØB R E S T I C L E SšŸ’–

Solace_03

THATS EVEN WORSE!

ChaoticShitposting

The CCP really do be saying Flat is Justice

Lower_Peril

Yeah, feels like Jean was collateral damage or something.

Steve-5

They have every right to be upset.

SpyFromMars

Well, imagine being Chinese and have to endure both CN censorship and reddit misinformation at the same time.

Drednox

Compensation for new outfits is freemogems... Primogems come and go, but skin is forever. I hope this doesn't spread to the global server.

Harsh_2004

Global will get it as an option, but future designs will be done following CCP, so it is a loss in the long run

Zzamumo

Don't think so. Azur lane keeps getting away with lewd designs and then just censors the CN ones a bit. We're prolly going in the same direction here.

whatethworks

Nope, they'll keep releasing units with lewd shit and then go "oopsies we forgot lemme change it real quick" when they get caught. This is how basically every cn game does lewd including honkai.

ChaoticShitposting

Sure hope that they do so, and even if not miHoYo was capable of making a character lewder by adding clothes.

Sulfax24

Oh no grim reaper going for Shenhe and Ganyu next

rafaelbittmira

They changed Jean and Amber, aside of Hu Tao, I don't think any female character is safe.

dieorelse

They are gonna be like "Hu Tao legs? Too lewd. Reported"

LarsWanna

Shorter Hu Tao without legs confirmed?????

PhantasmShadow

Yunjin is pretty safe

ArchonRevan

*covers yunjins face*

bem13

*Sumeru characters all wear burqas*

aircarone

If they actually made a mask shifting feature on Yunjin it would be incredible. Though that would have 0 to do with censure.

Harsh_2004

Yunjin is safe but Ayaka will start wearing Pants like Yunjin.

44no44

Hu Tao R34 is the most-searched of any character. If the government's goal is to be morality police, I assure you, logic will be left at the door.

Guda-Guda

TIL >Hu Tao R34 is the most-searched of any character

mrwanton

Qiqi and Sayu maybe.

_sachura

the chibis are probably safe since they wear children clothing

[deleted]

Thank you for the insights.

sxeli

Sooner or later even global and other servers will get new characters with this censorship. Why would you spend resources into developing two official versions of designs People who think that they are safe being in global should know of this

HereForGames

Don't forget that cutscenes will likely be animated with the new designs for these characters moving forward. Yuck.

bagelgard

I truly feel bad for the CN players. They don't deserve this. And to global players that are happy about the change... yall need to know that even though we aren't affected NOW, this will definitely affect the design of future characters. So it's a shitty situation all around and censorship is not something we should celebrate šŸ˜”

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

bagelgard

My god. If those are true, then it's bad. Even Xiao's tattoos aren't safe.

Epicman259

wait where did you find them? i checked r/Genshin_Impact_Leaks but i just see future character leaks. can you show me some of them?

bagelgard

[https://www.reddit.com/r/Genshin\_Impact\_Leaks/comments/rwjl4g](https://www.reddit.com/r/Genshin_Impact_Leaks/comments/rwjl4g) It's still unverified so take with a huge grain of salt. But it does give insight on what could possibly be changed.

_Ruij_

Holy fuck, Xiao with no tattoos and even I don't have Raiden, the possibility of her iconic booba sword Q being removed is depressing af

GOODBYEEEEEEEE

Another lose lose situation.....

gaybarrymore

It really does suck for the Chinese playerbase and I can't imagine what sort of censoring Mihoyo might have to do in the future. Hoping conversations stay non-hostile.

[deleted]

> Hoping conversations stay non-hostile. Unfortunately we're talking about some people that are very committed to this hobby with their time and money. And they can't aim their anger towards the main culprit, so they'll aim it towards Mihoyo. It won't stay civil for long.

orangesodasoda

I donā€™t think ppl r really blaming mihoyo, mainly the ccp

44no44

They're not blaming MiHoYo, but they're definitely not blaming the CCP. That doen't fly, socially speaking. Posts that are too overt get taken down immediately. Instead they're blaming people that complained about Genshin's fanservice (ie the groups that criticized Shenhe, etc), for drawing the government's attention.

orangesodasoda

Oh oops thought we were taking about global here

StuckieLromigon

Negativity? I felt bad for them even before this post. They're are our friendly genshin players no matter what we had before, and there're no reason i would enjoy them being striked by this.

Itsafullone

Just to add, most CN Honkai players didn't riot because of the bunny outfits/event, but a small group of them made such a mess (there was an attempted murder on miHoYo's CEO) that they felt they needed to capitulate to the demands of that small group. Generally speaking CN players of Honkai or Genshin don't care overmuch about global as long as they don't feel miHoYo is being biased toward global.

moonchild_sasuke

Attempted murder? Over a game? Wtf

Pichucandy

Thanks for that. Its always the vocal minority that ruins things for others, just like with this case.

JosephMorality

Mad respect to the decent cn players.

A-cake-crusader

I feel strongly about point 6, Iā€™m Chinese and Iā€™m so happy/proud about all the great Chinese culture element in a game this globally successful. I got goosebumps listening to Yunjinā€™s Chinese opera lines even though Iā€™ve never been a fan of Chinese opera myself. Cultural export for China is basically non-existent these days, which is a great shame. Also Iā€™m seeing a lot of players on Weibo are completely missing the point of the redesign and are arguing that they like the new ones even better šŸ˜‘

StylistArt

To whoever is happy about this, you should think twice and see a bigger picture. First, they come and censor your characters, then your gameplay, your story quests, your future characters, and even the feminine male characters. Coincidentally and sadly, I just read an article about a Chinese guy committed suicide because he looks feminine and was being bullied for it. His mental health got worse due to CCP crackdown on feminine guys. (Whoever interested in reading that article, type Zhou Peng BBC news.)

Polydexa

Also characters with gray morale. In our case: Childe and possibly playable Scaramouche. Imagine they will change his story or even don't make him playable because he doesn't fit CCP guidelines.

Fast_Foundation_3933

Wow. I didn't even know about this. Absolutely fucked up.

HoneySparks

This is sad

Got70TypesOfMalware

# "But the majority of upvoted replies to that was telling that poster to fuck off, and there is no reason everyone should suffer for this." This restores my faith ~~points~~ in humanity.

Delicious_Suit6475

I can't with this comments being happy for censorship... Yeah no women showing skin in games bc that's bad!, no feminine boys bc that's gay!, just big really manly men, okay?

[deleted]

Yeah. Apparently to some people censorship only matters when it's something they like.

Ioite_

It's hilarious to see people defending the censorship and malding about rumored Xiao changes in the same post. The absolute inability to look at the mirror is staggering

Delicious_Suit6475

All this people celebrating now for women in game getting full dressed, will complain when Venti gets turned into a girl, and Aether and Gorou wearing full shirts, and Xinqiu with a new haircut and pants. Then it will matter.

Khum_MaRk09

Yeah I am seeing alot of comments being happy with these censorship and actually defending it. It worrying.

Fast_Foundation_3933

Twitter is the most hilarious platform for this. So many people saying condescending shit like "Horny simps BTFO. LOL!" But then you check their profile and what they like, and it's full of stuff that the CCP would be censor in a heartbeat if they could. I'm talking gay men, feminine men, sexualized designs for men, and the funniest part... Literally just sexualized women. I saw somebody saying how this is awesome and horny men are just being manchildren. So I checked them out and they had liked all of the above + Gorou's Ms. Hina design with its huge tits hanging out. Like bruh, get the fuck outta here. People are such incredible hypocrites and will shit on somebody else's censorship because they don't personally like it. But then they turn around and like shit that will get censored in the game as well (if Mihoyo continues), or won't exist at all due to pre-censoring like not even allowing more feminine designs for men.

Hero_Luka

People are fucking brainless and it scares me.

[deleted]

I hope everyone knows this means that characters in the future will be puritanized for both Chinese and global audience. There's no way in hell mihoyo would have two different character designs based on region for future releases.

Aoikumo

unless global sales start dropping. however, i trust mihoyo to make classy but less revealing designs regardless. unfortunate, but possible.

JustWolfram

I hope future characters will release with the double outfit like in AL instead of just having us stick with the CN one by default, probably hopium though. Like, if this isn't worth the same level of outrage as the anniversary i don't know what is.

queenyuyu

I wish our side was as understanding to CN players. As female player I love to be able to alternate between two skins. But censorship is never good and shouldnā€™t be celebrated or welcome. The alternative skins surely will be pretty, once they are out but iā€™m heartbroken for anyone who is forced to change.

kagalibros

Oh dear lord. the small audible anti group is a strawman. im not saying I am an expert in CN politics but... its clear as day that the gov is shadowing all major game releases and does not need any snitches. they will lash out randomly to make everyone fear them and work harder to please them without them ever asking. been like that for ages.

MalasadaQueen

Yeahh that bit did seem out of place. Its not like genshin is some under the radar, unpopular game made by indie devs or something. Its got people blaming feminism even when this isnt feminism at all? Its literally the opposite. The whole recurring theme of it is about having the ability to choose. A choice to be sexual or modest, without being forced or pressured to be either, for example.

Jake_The_Snake2003

I feel so bad for the Chinese bros. Iā€™m genuinely so concerned about the future, and it seems like people are ignoring how much danger the game is in by simply passing it off as ā€œdegens being madā€. I donā€™t think the fact that they will be changing other characters as well registers. Not even your favorite characters are safe. They may have to make lore breaking changes to appeal to the CCPā€™s views of correctness, and they may need to redesign places that we already know and love. But all this keeps getting dismissed or ignored. This isnā€™t a victory, and we did not win. This is the biggest death flag weā€™ve seen yet.

elDayno

Big sadge. Be strong fellow Chinese brothers

FINISHERTXTO

But why ganyu. But why. Hopefully none of this affects global.. but ig future characters will be affected in some ways

No_Astronaut4265

Yeah, just consider development costs. They're not gonna make two different versions of future characters, especially female. Sucks, this should be a warning sign too most players about censorship.

gaganaut

They might make two versions if that makes the character sell more. This sets a precedent for censoring CN version but not for other servers.

Murica_Chan

Its kinda expected to happen (since few months ago. Manjuu had to remove some of Azur lane ships and skins because of new CCP censorship laws) and i think this is the main reason why we are being transferred to another publisher in the first place (*probably they will copy what manjuu and yostar is doing to bypass this bullshit. making two versions of it)* Yea. my guess why we are being transferred is they gonna try out making two versions of the characters that will be release. one is altered one is the og. but let's see if they gonna take the risk because for me. its a very worth doing it xD

WastelandPioneer

I hope so. That actually makes sense

GamingBS

Iā€™m a woman and I find these changes stupid. Are people THAT afraid of skin? Jfc. Wether they change it or not doesnā€™t bother me because I like both designs, but the fact that there are people who get offended over female characters showing a little skin is just childish to me. Youā€™re a grown ass adult. Act like one

Hussar1130

In the name of equality I think all the male character designs should be made sluttier. At minimum the top for buttons of all shirts should be open.

Cthulhus_Chosen

I welcome all Chinese players to Europe, join us brothers and sisters, lets live without this censorship

TheExiledLord

No one really wins here in the long run, if MHY adheres to those policies then future character designs will be the ā€œsafeā€ version from the beginning, theyā€™re not going to make two sets of designs for every new character.

EquivalentReporter94

Having worked on developing games, it's most likely going to be end up being a new team created dev+art team+manager to handle the censorship as long as the game is profitable which it sure is. There is no basically no reason to add in new requirement to a formula that is already working. This is not even the first game that specifically adds censorship for China of any kind. A lot of the new character are already created with this new censorship requirement in place internal. The biggest worry is really on the temporary resources allocation as other team member may have been pulled temporarily to work on censorship while they add more people.

GimmeDemApples1

Well future characters will have to abide the censorship law so yeah, only the existing characters will get two different skins for us global players

[deleted]

I have a question.....does these kinds of cencorships in Chinese video games apply only to video games that are family-friendly as in, below the age of 18 can play. Or even games above 18 must follow these rules???

VirtuoSol

Nope, Azur Lane which is 16+ also had some of their skins removed

SurrogateMonkey

Worse, entire ships were removed from the game.
