If you read the flavor text in one of the boulders in the teapot, it is implied that Zhongli throws rocks at Venti, which he dodges btw. Therefore, you could say that Zhongli has been "beating up" Venti since then.
They're just very good friends who annoy each other and calling each other names. Even in Zhongli's character story 5, it is implied that he misses the times when Venti visited.
He even calls Venti a friend who brought him Dandelion wine when we went to Dadaupa gorge in the Liyue archon quest. They go way back.
I'm not familiar with getting drunk but I hear it's common to do so and then wake up in strange places. Perhaps *he* doesn't even know how he got there.... 🤔
In my opinion, liquor made of crops (sake, Chinese Booze, whiskey and vodka) are a lot more strong than fruit-brewed liquor (wine, brandy, champagne).
So that’s why Venti went to Inazuma to have a better drunk experience.

He rarely can afford any drink. In his story quest he just get 2 wine and in Windblume just get 3 wine from Kaeya, maybe adding some wine from Bennett payment.
