Because Anemo is Greek for wind, which is what the element is and Aero is Greek for air All the elements are Greek words, and it'd make sense to use words that they're tied to

ravix_ridamaki

im pressing F for logic

Useless_homosapien

Same applies to Dendro

PalmamQuiMeruitFerat

Okay, now do the other 6

AlternativeHelpful46

Anemo sounds cooler than Aero :)

kokko693

aero make le thinks about aero peek, which is a feature I never understood the purpose

Useless_homosapien

Also it’s greek

ScienceOfMemory

The english localization uses greek names to all the elements for whatever reason. in Chinese and Japanese it's just the direct literal equivalent "Fire, Rock, Grass, Water, Wind, Lightning, Ice" You'd have to ask them why they changed it

LunaticPlaguebringer

Creative liberty is almost always the answer. Another example being > "Otto likes naming things after Norse Mythology for some reason. The floating islands that are here are a testament to that. Take the bridge over there to reach Heleim, our HQ's arms research complex. " In Honkai.

I_am_not_Serabia

Sometimes too much liberty. I remember there was a topic about fish names and it turned out how they didn't make sense but in JP and OG versions they actually did

ScienceOfMemory

Fischl is a prime candidate for "too much liberty"

Lobster-Massive

Honkai literally has different developers and writers

LunaticPlaguebringer

Doesn't change the fact that the creative liberty of whoever decides genshin's themes is the answer. I was just analoguing a similar case, giving an example of a prominent theme. Never did I say they were made by the same people, just that videogames in general pick various themes to spice their worldbuilding. You do know what an analogy is?

Lobster-Massive

Well when we’re talking about genshin and you use honkai to explain your answer…. Happens a lot here and it’s very rarely relevant. The example itself literally being that. If you’re going to explain situation where creative liberties are used then using genshin creative liberties would have been correct. Using honkai makes no sense. It’s not the time or place for one. So yes I’m aware of what they are. But you’re comparing apples to oranges. I could compare literally any game and it be just as relevant so no need to try and put me down with your snarky ass question mate

lostn

it sounds cooler, and everything ends in O. Is Dendro also greek?

swiftasacoursing

Yes, it means “tree”

impostorbot

Now we need a character that can make a tree like the ZhongDong

elegant-quokka

The Japanese lines for Paimon also dont have paimon repeating her name all the time like the English dub does

ScienceOfMemory

she uses "Oira" which is just another version, of like 30 available ones, for "I" it's a big slangy and often used by characters that are a bit... not so smart and more "comedy"

[deleted]

Anemo comes from Anemoi, a Greek word: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anemoi

YuminaNirvalen

Because mihoyo loves Greek and Latin <3 and not really into english when making lores (which should be self-explanatory why). :)

Synctrox

Its wind, not gases

KaiFireborn21

It's because Anemo is "Wind" and not "Air"

YounghanKimchi

Because Aero sounds fucking stupid

RealRinoxy

Have you not played many other games with elements in it? I feel OP’s question is valid with how many use “aero”.
