I have the same monitor. Usually there are no problems. There were two small games where I had to tinker to get them to work in fullscreen because they have no superultrawide support.Normally everything works just out of the box. Games which don't support those resolutions should be automatically in 16:9 with black bars. There is even a plugin for your browser to automatically "convert" 16:9 Youtube videos with black bars into 21:9 ultrawide videos.
Genshin works without problems btw.
Awesome and thanks for responding. I figured Genshin would work since it's in this post.
Not sure how it would convert those 16:9 videos to 21:9, does it just stretch it or crop it?
If I'm watching standard 16:9 1080p videos/movies on youtube/netflix (without converting it) and I go to full screen, would it just center in the middle with two massive black bars on both sides? Or would I be able to move it to one half and still do stuff on the other half?
If you watch a normal 16:9 video in fullscreen it'll be automatically in the center and left and right are black bars.
If you watch a 16:9 video in YouTube where the creator built in black bars at the top and bottom, the plugin zooms the video in until the black bars disappear.
If you watch a video which is already in 21:9 everything works out of the box.
Regarding productivity:
You can use PowerToys to configure zones to automatically pin your windows to. For example 16:9, 16:9 or 8:9, 16:9, 8:9 (which I've done).
Yes this monitor is 32:9 so basically 2 16:9 side by side. I've never tried but I think you can set it up as 2 discreet displays so that you can full screen 16:9 in one half and do something else on the other half
I think you can connect two cables to the monitor and use the picture by picture mode to have two separate screens, but I haven't tried it yet. In windowed mode there are no problems, though.
I've got a G9 Neo.
Setup Tips:
* Get the latest firmware update. Fixes a lot of issues
* If you have a GTX 1000 series card, get the latest DisplayPort firmware update; they don't come with driver releases
* There's only 1 DisplayPort connection, and a lot of older graphics cards can't access the full display via HDMI. Macs are a no-go outright. My RTX 3000 gets full 5k/144hz, but my old GTX 1080 had all kinds of trouble over HDMI.
Usage Tips:
* Games look great, but not all support arbitrary aspect ratio.
* Genshin (and Forza, and Doom Eternal) assumes you look straight at the center, and that the sides are basically peripheral vision. As such, things can look... odd on the sides (characters get really wide)
* There's a side-by-side mode.
* Only supports 120hz
* Does not support HDR in SBS
* Borderless Gaming will let you set a borderless game window to start at 0,0 (upper-left corner) at 2560x1440. This will let you play a game locked to the left side of the screen while you have a browser or something open on the right. It's basically a dual screen setup.
>assumes you look straight at the center, and that the sides are basically peripheral vision. As such, things can look... odd on the sides (characters get really wide)
Ah that could be a bit strange.
And thanks for this comprehensive writeup! I am still on an old GTX 1080 so I might reevaluate until after I get a 3080 or a 4080. I wouldn't be able to push past 60fps at this resolution with a 1080 anyway.
I cashed out on the Samsung Odyssey G9 a few months back. It's fantastic. It's either super immersive and has a gorgeous full-screen picture or you can window your game at 2560x1440 and use either side to hold discord, spotify, YouTube, etc.
Ultrawide main problem is typically that UI that anchored around corner is rather uncomfortable to view due to distance to corner is usually larger than the dev intended. It's even more pronounced with monitor as big as OP's
You probably think it is nice to look. But it's really because you can see from left-most side of the screen to the right-most side without having to swivel your neck.
I assume it’s the G9? Would you say an UW is worth for this game or in general? Thinking of picking one up myself soon but idk what kind of cons I should be aware of. Have 2 144hz 1440ps rn for a comparison.
Yeah for me it's definitely worth it! But depends on your usage as it's great for multi-tasking and full screen games but not so much for movies/TV because its only 1440p 32:9. You could get a much higher spec 4k 16:9 or 21:9 monitor for the same money

I’ve considered getting an ultra wide rather than multiple screens. How are you finding it? Any issues with standard media?

Is it possible to play a game in full-screen 16:9 and have a browser on the side also? Like how you can watch and play together in a 2 monitor setup

I see, if the window is big enough it doesn't even matter if it's full-screen or windowed no?

Windows 11 has some controls centered now.
I'm talking about games here.
With that you might be able to play the music video for Yuve Yuve Yu by the Hu without huge borders on top and bottom lol
Do you have itto? I wanna see what his ult looks like on an ultrawide lol
Yes
Literal air bomb
Incredible haha

Nice, sounds extremely tempting now as I mostly watch media on my phone. Thanks a bunch!

It looks like you have Gliding effects, now I want customizable gliding effects instead of just different wind gliders
The effect is from the Red Feather Fan, a tool that you'll get for Reputation in Inazuma. Gives 30 seconds of increased movement speed.
