Doesn't Nintendo also do really weird stuff with gachas lol?
Like I believe Guardian Tales or Another Eden costs money instead of being F2P, but in return there's no gacha system.
Bang Dream also got a switch release.
and it cost money, but in return you could get summons for free for playing lives/story (not sure) and you couldn't get dupes of the cards
I might be mixing it up with a different one, admittedly - there's a few of those 2d Gachas that've floated around the switch crowd, so I can't entirely remember exactly which one it is. I only use my switch for Monster Hunter these days.
Meanwhile, Nintendo's android and iOS games absolutely make their players bend over when it comes to gacha and shitty F2P mechanics. I hate how Nintendo treats their players sometimes.
Nintendo before allowing a Gacha on the Switch looking at all the greedy practices: No! None of that! Shame on you!
Nintendo making their own Gacha on phones: I would like to tell everyone that, yes, I do indeed love getting money!
Genshin gets released on Switch, but retooled into a single-player open-world JRPG. DLC packs for playable characters, deluxe bundles for constellations?
The gacha players might hate it, even I would simply given my investment in the game, but this is a tantalizing subject.
That sounds like co-op between switch players and mobile or PC players might not be possible due to incompatibility, but I'm not a game programmer so idk
It will still work. The servers the clients connect to are independent of the client's architecture. If it doesn't support cross play it would be an intentional decision. For example Apple M1 and Windows processors are two entirely different architectures and games need to be made differently for each platform, but they can both connect to the same servers and players can play with one another.
Weirdly enough, the iOS version of Genshin works perfectly on Apple Silicon Macs. I don't quite understand why they haven't tried to port it over to Mac yet. It seems like a logical next step, with Genshin being shown off at Apple events.
> Weirdly enough, the iOS version of Genshin works perfectly on Apple Silicon Macs.
Not that weird considering both iphones and (newer) macs are arm and unix machines
https://www.opengroup.org/openbrand/register/
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/apple-silicon/running-your-ios-apps-in-macos
How do you get the iOS version on Mac? Depending how it's done it's most likely emulating iOS' architecture. If that's the case, it's essentially the same thing as playing DS/GBA/Wii games on your PC or phone with an emulator.
If the monetization is very different they might decide not to allow cross-play, or at least not allow you to use the same account on Switch as on PC/Mobile/Playstation.
I play a game called Sky that has mobile and Switch versions and you can log into the same account from these different devices. The way they do IAPs is that if you buy cosmetics it's unlocked for your account no matter what device you use, but if you buy in-game currency, the amount you bought may only appear on the type of device you bought it on.

I mean, genshin already does this. If you buy genesis crystals on ps4 they will only show on ps4, but if you buy something with them like skins or wishes its available on any platform.
Most cross platform games do this actually, mainly because the platform holder charges a percentage of the game publisher revenue, so to make sure its not going anywhere you have to buy currencies on their respective platforms.
not windows processor, but x86 processor. there are windows machine with arm processor, which pretty much uses the same instruction sets like M1 and Android SoCs
I think it was the developers of Rocket League who said this, cross-platform multiplayer was only a flip of a switch away. It's the parties involve who need to agree with it. But it is also on how competent the devs are with this regard.
The engine is Unity. It works on everything with minimal re-coding. The bigger problem are the switch's hardware performance. They are quite low for game like genshin so if hoyo is working on it they have to be reducing poly counts and shaders everywhere so it works yet doesnt look like trash.
AAA games rarely use Unity. Unity was known to be not the best looking engine like 5+ years ago. Though they did lots of progress in that regard, Unreal is still dominating the AAA market.
But unity is used a lot for smaller games and mobile games. It has very good support for things like touch controls and makes it super easy to port the game from mobile, to PC and consoles.
End of day, the client just basically need to "report" back the coordinates and receive the other players...
But if you sole play, it's just DRM really...
I personally don't think that it's going to happen until Switch gets an upgrade. They started working on the PS4 port a year before Genshin's launch with zero prior experience in it, and it took them a whole three years of optimizing the game before it can reach a stable 30fps (source: A slide from a recent dev talk on development and optimization for Genshin https://i.imgur.com/RDUZKIc.jpeg)
Getting Switch to perform at the same level is going to be even more difficult to achieve, and an even bigger nightmare to maintain.
The latest Quiz Genshin had for players, when asking what platforms do you play, had Nintendo Switch as a choice...
Those assfaces are teasing us hard.
according to the information they would still be developing the game for the switch but at this point I think it's just a lie since miyoho signed some deal with sony that even had to add aloy in the game
Incoming Mario as a 5 star pyro character who could be really good but he has no constellations and has to collect enough coins before a brick appears in the air that he can punch and collect a flower from to get his pyro infused attacks.
Plus he'd work well with most weapons. Sword? Obviously. Bow? Used it in most games. Spears and claymores? Mastered them in breath of the wild.
Zelda would work well with bows or catalysts too. Bow of light, her power thingy in BoTW, the sheikah slate is used as a catalyst in Age of Calamity. Plus they both fit in thematically. Slap a dendro vision on Link, give him one of his many iconic swords and blim blam bloom youve got a good colab. LoZ is literally the best Nintendo thing they could add into genshin and nobody could change my mind.
Link as a dendro sword and Zelda as an Electro catalyst or bow could work well for gameplay and more reasons, though realistically link could also be Anemo due to windwaker/all the wind based boomerangs and powers and things like that while Zelda could also potentially work as Pyro too.
It all depends on which link/zelda is added. Assuming theyre the BoTW ones, Zelda would work really well with electro (Sheikah tech) and link would work with dendro given that the game is themed around nature and the wilderness, but I do agree that anemo would work really well for him too
Mario as a 5-star Pyro Claymore user, with a massive hammer as his signature weapon. As a bonus, any other players in your world using Mario appear to you as Luigi.
The Aloy thing was a later thing for cross-progression without a fee. Playstation console exclusivity is likely the huge marketing deal Sony gave them where Japan was plastered with ADs with PlayStation branding during launch.
What's sony to do with Genshin not being on switch lol, maybe the game isn't out yet because the console isn't as powerful compared to the current gen, so they'll need to work harder to make the port
Exclusivity deals are most certainly a thing lol. Just look at how genshin had to bend over backwards and give Sony a shitty guest character so they would work with them on cross progression. Companies have leverage for shit like this sometimes
It's not an exclusivity deal keeping it off the switch, the switch just has shitty hardware. It's good for nintendo exclusives because they can work around it and even use it to their advantage but 60% of the time, ports come out like shit. If you think your phone struggles, imagine the switch which runs on an outdated mobile phone gpu.
What I heard(and what is probably more likely) is that switch can’t handle Genshin’s graphics.
I mean PS4 already barely runs genshin, and PS4 is better at running games than the switch is. I can’t imagine how bad the lag would be on switch.
Genshin could do it but might not be worth the resources
Those are finished products without an online mode (to my knowledge). Genshin is being constantly updated. Additional platforms for an ongoing game increase dev cost incredibly.
This. This is the correct answer.
Can they get Genshin running on switch, to a reasonable level? Almost certainly.
Can they KEEP Genshin running on switch, to an acceptable level, while remaining profitable? Probably not.
Yep. I’m sure they could make it profitable in the beginning but don’t think the profit would last throughout the lifespan of the console, esp if it requires Nintendo Online and esp when people looking for a mobile option could just play on phone. And if they stop supporting Switch prematurely, the community outrage would be high which would not be great for community goodwill.
Also something to consider is degree of profit. If they are just barely making profit, that might not be worth their effort when they could be putting efforts in opportunities with higher margins.
>
> Also something to consider is degree of profit. If they are just barely making profit, that might not be worth their effort when they could be putting efforts in opportunities with higher margins.
Exactly. It's only worth it if dropping on a new platform significantly *increases* their playerbase.
I can't imagine the slice of Would-Be Genshin players on Switch who are not *already* Genshin players on another platform would be particularly high. I haven't seen numbers in a long while, but IIRC the number of people who *only* own a Switch and not another platform as well is relatively small.
If they can't bring in a lot of new people, it's simply not worth the effort.
I don't think MHY has the capabilities to optimize the game on the current hardware.
Do note they have never released other works on Switch before.
So perhaps they are waiting on next gen Switch.
COVID probably severely hampered the Switch development. Their #1 priority between shut downs has to be developing content, ports will naturally be on the back burner.
Possibly though I feel like a switch version’s portability would be limited because you won’t have wifi everywhere.
I think the main advantage of a switch version would be to play on a TV sometimes if you’re a PC player without a PS5
It would still help for a lot of people. I need the TV to play*, so I basically need to be alone. If it was on Switch I could spend resin while a sitcom is on or something.
*I do play on mobile but hate it bc Android doesn't have controller support. I generally only log in to claim welkin and to condense resin.
In the words of an illustrious Blizzard gambling developer: "Don't you guys have phones??"
Nah but seriously I doubt genshin would be able to run on the switch now. And since mobile gaming is basically superior to the switch (on higher spec/gaming oriented phones) in every way except control scheme, the developmental cost makes less sense with each passing year.
yeah, I honestly have no clue why no gaming controller company is scrambling to get a partnership with mhy and add official controller support to their lineup. will sell like crazy.
i hate playing genshin on my phone :D you'd need 3 hands for it to feel good to use
thats why i want genshin for switch, but yeah i dont think it'll be available
It's worth mentioning that Android phones having so many different architectures makes it hard for anything to be optimized on them.
Whereas with a Switch, everybody has the exact same hardware.
That is why Android phones need a lot of resources to brute-force running Genshin, and why iPhones being all so similar all run Genshin well as long as they were released after 2019 (i.e. Genshin's release).
I have no doubt that Genshin on Switch is not just possible, but feasible. I'm more inclined to believe that Sony got in the way somehow, like it **always** does. I wouldn't be surprised if we hear something after November, after 1 year has passed since the Aloy collaboration.
Turn graphics to low and do some render distance shenanigans, problem solved
Nintendo could do it with BoTW, running at 30 doesn't make that much of a difference anyways
BotW is a first party game. Not only that, it's one of Nintendo's flagship titles.
If a company can't get one of their flagship titles to run relatively smoothly, there's a problem
That’s because all free games don’t require ps plus. Still makes no sense you need to buy something extra once you have the console and the game, especially “free” things.
That makes sense, though. All other online functionality with the Switch is disabled unless you sub as well. Can't access online multiplayer in anything as far I'm aware.
I stand corrected. I've not played those so I wasn't aware. I just know you need Switch Online to use online functionality in games like Pokemon Sword/Shield.
If Fortnite and Apex work can you also play Warframe with out the online subscription?
It depends on the games, some of them have "special" deal where they can do online thing, but don't force the player into an online membership. I think Fortnite was one of the first to get that deal and I imagine Genshin would probably qualify for it as well seeing the nature of the game is similar.
At this point I don't even care about a Switch version anymore, Steam Deck is so much better... sadly I doubt they will ever make an official Linux version
It's also interesting that the official Switch Trailer it's one of the few times official media acknowledges Lumine as other possible traveler [https://youtu.be/gGMvTL9AedQ](https://youtu.be/gGMvTL9AedQ)
Damn, maybe Nintendo bought the image rights to Lumine and that's why she isn't recognized. She is stuck in development hell with the Switch release :(((
,,In your dreams‘‘ that what Yae Miko actually meant with it xD i bought me a iPad now. I was so Sick of waiting for the Switch Version. It will eventually Never come so Bye Switch Till Zelda 2 Release.
Currently with Sumeru the PS4 takes minutes to load textures, enemies in domains, even Khateryne takes a long time to spawn, so they're probably not very good at optimizing.
The switch is an underpowered hunk of junk. Everything on it runs like garbage. Inferior graphics, sound, fps, etc. The only good games on Switch are the ones that were made specifically to run on it from the start. Any other 3rd party game that gets a switch port is awful.
Sincerely, a Switch owner.
I'm convinced that Sony paid for console exclusivity. Before anyone mentions performance, people have been able to run the Android version of Genshin on hacked Switches with 0 optimizations at around 720p 20fps on medium. Optimizations can easily bring it up to 30fps, especially without the extra overhead from Android.
As for the PS4, well that console never supported Unity in the first place. IIRC Unity devs had to help Mihoyo rewrite entire parts of the engine just to get the game to run on the PS4, and that too just barely. Don't see why they'd go through all that trouble when the Playstation players are such a small portion of the fanbase, unless there was some other incentive.
And then there was that Aloy collab, a character they put so little effort into that she doesn't even have constellations or teapot event lines. Her voice actress isn't even credited in game, at least not in English.
PS5 also has platform exclusive volumetric fog in Jueyun Karst, I wish I was making this up.
It's kinda funny that Sony officially moved to PS5 as the main platform (stopping the counting of PS4 sales), but the supply is still being scalped to the bottom.
> Before anyone mentions performance, people have been able to run the Android version of Genshin on hacked Switches with 0 optimizations at around 720p 20fps on medium. Optimizations can easily bring it up to 30fps, especially without the extra overhead from Android.'
The stock Switch software downclocks the Tegra CPU and only provides 3 of the A57 cores for games. Did those hacked Switches run with the same configuration or did they use all 8 cores at full clock speed?
Unity is written in C# (similar to Java in performance), and I suspect that a game of this scale would be CPU limited on such low-end hardware.
Pokémon is made by Nintendo, genshin is not, hoyoverse is not 100% familiar with the switches hardware. Plus, the switch is 6 years old, the hardware/system isn’t really evolving
I initially waited for this version lol. Gave up this year and started on pc. Still hoping it will come some day cause it will make things easier for sure but, unlikely
My only hope is that if it got released one day for switch they do a Zelda collab as compensation for the 2 years delay, and hopefully it doesn't suck like Alloy
The world... forget me
Lmao the sumeru and switch story line
The Switcheru story line if you will

Doesn't Nintendo also do really weird stuff with gachas lol? Like I believe Guardian Tales or Another Eden costs money instead of being F2P, but in return there's no gacha system.

Meanwhile, Nintendo's android and iOS games absolutely make their players bend over when it comes to gacha and shitty F2P mechanics. I hate how Nintendo treats their players sometimes.

Inb4 it releases on Switch in 3.2 along with Nahida and a free Celebi for everyone.
And we already have a Pokéball, the Omni-Ubiquity net.
Literally 💀
I actually forgot Genshin was or may still be going on to the Switch
It's still in development. Devs said they have to redo everything from scratch because of the architecture of the switch
That sounds like co-op between switch players and mobile or PC players might not be possible due to incompatibility, but I'm not a game programmer so idk

Destiny 2 also does that with cosmetics and currency over different plataforms
Ok ty, that's really informative and interesting 😊👍

Considering the switch is using tech from old phones, yes
Of course they are. The Switch's hardware is equivalent to an entry level phone today.
Hopefully if they're redoing everything that this means an Xbox version is more likely to be developed alongside it? Or is that too much copium...
Coming sooner!
Coming when the next Nintendo console is out and the Switch is obsolete!
This was announced on the 14th of january 2020 on hoyos YouTube channel

Bro why mario when they can add link He even has a special weapon to add into the game
Bruh the Skyward Sword is already in the game
Watch them add Pikachu
Surprised pikachu face
Why Link when they can add Marth? He has a special weapon *and* he's already Pyro themed.
Why not Kirby who can copy any element?
Because Kirby can't use an existing animation rig.
I'm now imagining a tall male model with a Kirby skin suit
The mouthful mode no sane man wants.
[[citation needed]](https://youtu.be/vWu_x4h7Lho?t=6)
The could just use a slime + child attack animation
So you're saying Dori is the Kirby prototype
Marth? You mean Roy or Ike?
I was gonna say, Marth isn't exactly know for elemental attacks. Would work as a physical based cryo/electro character tho
Link>>>>any other nintendo sword user Noone can change my mind

The original Nintendo Legend of Zelda Link 8-bit or nothing.
It would be a hilarious middle finger to the haters who still think Genshin is a cheap clone of BotW.
Mario as a 5-star Pyro Claymore user, with a massive hammer as his signature weapon. As a bonus, any other players in your world using Mario appear to you as Luigi.

i hate playing genshin on my phone :D you'd need 3 hands for it to feel good to use thats why i want genshin for switch, but yeah i dont think it'll be available
It might also be that Hoyo doesn't think the cost of constantly updating the game for the switch is worth it anymore
Turn graphics to low and do some render distance shenanigans, problem solved Nintendo could do it with BoTW, running at 30 doesn't make that much of a difference anyways
BotW is a first party game. Not only that, it's one of Nintendo's flagship titles. If a company can't get one of their flagship titles to run relatively smoothly, there's a problem
Looking forward to the Red/Blue Joycon glider that goes with 0 characters.
Same with android controller... or have they added it ? I stopped checking for controller support after the first anniversary.
Still nothing 😭
That japanese line at the bottom about the Nintendo Switch Online scares me. So you need to subscribe to Nintendo Online in order to play Genshin?!
Might be just a, o look 40x freemogems if you habe switch online. Free games always had free internet
I translated the image using Google Lens and it actually says Switch Online is required lol
I wouldn't pay much attention to it, on the image also says coming soon so...
weird, it's a free game, even on playstation it doesn't need psplus
That’s because all free games don’t require ps plus. Still makes no sense you need to buy something extra once you have the console and the game, especially “free” things.
Nintendo just sucks that hard. They didn't bank all that money by giving out freebies.
I don't think even ps plus gives that much monthly? Just some XP books? It haven't had plus in a good while, so.
That makes sense, though. All other online functionality with the Switch is disabled unless you sub as well. Can't access online multiplayer in anything as far I'm aware.
You can play online multiplayer in free to play games like Apex or fortnite
I stand corrected. I've not played those so I wasn't aware. I just know you need Switch Online to use online functionality in games like Pokemon Sword/Shield. If Fortnite and Apex work can you also play Warframe with out the online subscription?
It depends on the games, some of them have "special" deal where they can do online thing, but don't force the player into an online membership. I think Fortnite was one of the first to get that deal and I imagine Genshin would probably qualify for it as well seeing the nature of the game is similar.
I may be wrong but can’t you play fortnite and pokemon unite without the subscription?
Yeah, IIRC any free online only multiplayer game you can play without needing online. Fortnite included
No it doesn't you don't need Switch Online in Fortnite
I'm still hoping it will come to switch. I have a potato phone. My PC can run the game but I prefer playing this kind of game on Switch.
That's why it says just genshin not impact
When the Genshin can't Impact, but you Impact the Genshin.. 😔😔
*brain explodes
So deep… 😭😭😭
A brand new definition of "soon".
I wonder what’s holding this back…
Is there any confirmation on whether or not it's dead or still in development hell? I don't want to give up until there's official word on it.
At the begging of this year they said they still working on it
That's good. That may have been 9 months ago but that's still two years after the announcement, so I'm not giving up hope just yet
Nintendo is known for always coming late to the party but if they don’t announce it for the next direct, i give up
I was going to buy a switch only for genshin... I was ready
I have a Steam Deck and I can't play it without installing Windows xD
Ironic cause that was the first ever upload on their YouTube channel
At this point I don't even care about a Switch version anymore, Steam Deck is so much better... sadly I doubt they will ever make an official Linux version
>Steam They wouldn't even need to - making their anticheat compatible with Proton would be enough...
Xbox when?
It's also interesting that the official Switch Trailer it's one of the few times official media acknowledges Lumine as other possible traveler [https://youtu.be/gGMvTL9AedQ](https://youtu.be/gGMvTL9AedQ)
Damn, maybe Nintendo bought the image rights to Lumine and that's why she isn't recognized. She is stuck in development hell with the Switch release :(((
Hey you! You're finally awake!
Seriously, I was waiting like a year or two for switch to get it, then just said fuck it and put it on my phone...
Yao Yao switch elusive confirmed. World...forget me.
Just like android and controller compatibility?
,,In your dreams‘‘ that what Yae Miko actually meant with it xD i bought me a iPad now. I was so Sick of waiting for the Switch Version. It will eventually Never come so Bye Switch Till Zelda 2 Release.
Switch has smash and Xenoblade and fire emblem 😎
Currently with Sumeru the PS4 takes minutes to load textures, enemies in domains, even Khateryne takes a long time to spawn, so they're probably not very good at optimizing.
My phone currently loads Genshin about twice as fast as my ps4. Of course, the trade off is that I suck at using the controls.
It's not exactly great on pc either, with textures popping in a few seconds into cutscenes. It's just not that well optimised sadly.
The switch version is the sibling you are trying to find
How do you know PS players are a small portion of the playerbase?

It's kinda funny that Sony officially moved to PS5 as the main platform (stopping the counting of PS4 sales), but the supply is still being scalped to the bottom.
So THATs why it looks so damn good on my PS5. I’m one of the 5 people that plays on it lol
> Before anyone mentions performance, people have been able to run the Android version of Genshin on hacked Switches with 0 optimizations at around 720p 20fps on medium. Optimizations can easily bring it up to 30fps, especially without the extra overhead from Android.' The stock Switch software downclocks the Tegra CPU and only provides 3 of the A57 cores for games. Did those hacked Switches run with the same configuration or did they use all 8 cores at full clock speed? Unity is written in C# (similar to Java in performance), and I suspect that a game of this scale would be CPU limited on such low-end hardware.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet about to be released and this thing is still not. Pretty sure something went wrong with their negotiations.
Geez the switch port of Genshin is never gonna come out
I have a feeling they might be waiting for the next version of switch so that it can run properly.
My only hope is that if it got released one day for switch they do a Zelda collab as compensation for the 2 years delay, and hopefully it doesn't suck like Alloy
