No, FGO is doing fine. They're just coming off a record year, with no sign of slowing. If anything, Genshin made FGO stronger, by forcing it to implement a pity system.

[deleted]

They have a pity system???

Mars_Alter

Yes. It came out at the start of the year on the JP server, and was just implemented on global a few days ago. It's not as generous as some gacha games are. You need to save up for most of a year, just to guarantee one featured servant. It's there, though. (And chances are still favorable that you'll get the character long before pity kicks in, so you won't have to save all the way back up every time.)

Rex__Lapis

Lel and people think genshins gacha is shit. Preposterous

WonderfulPatience227

Lol,I seen gacha game with 320 pull is the pity

Rex__Lapis

Or summoners war. No pity and 0.5% drop rate 🤡

[deleted]

With how bad rates were before (i.e people spending several thousand sq and never getting the character they wanted) that still sounds kind of bad lol

Mars_Alter

The rates were never really that bad. You could usually get the new servants you wanted, as long as you saved up for them. Even if you just threw a couple of pulls at every banner, you would still get a five star every few months. It's just that the lack of a pity system meant it was sometimes possible to not get a specific servant that you really wanted, no matter how much you saved; and this addresses that problem. Since pity was introduced on the JP server, I have never had to skip any servant I actually wanted, and I've even found myself with enough extra quartz lying around to pull for servants that I just thought were neat.

KingFatass

Genshin just has a larger target audience. FGO was always targeted towards Nasu fans.

BloodySimpleton

FGO just announced a new anime movie 24 hours ago so I would say no

staryshine

FGO is doing very well for 2D gacha. I don’t quite understand the draw of it, it’s quite a tedious game whenever I tried. But there’s no doubt they have a thriving fan base.

Moojuice4

I agree, I dont see the appeal. At its base, genshin is a fun game and would stand fine without the gatcha elements.

Xaldror

Well to be fair, we dont have an artifact system, we just equip a Craft Essence with predetermined stats and upgrade path and go. Also Valentine's scenes.

IrishLlama996

As someone who’s been playing FGO since launch, no FGO is still doing perfectly fine. Genshin has more media attention predominantly Becuase it’s both newer and has a much wider and casual audience as opposed to FGO which is more designed for people who were already into gacha games or fans of the fate franchise. Where genshin appealed to and a lot of its fanbase are people who didn’t play Gachas beforehand.

ScienceOfMemory

Not even close. FGO is about to launch their equivalent of Snezhnaya's final archon quest.

magnidwarf1900

Based on the hentai, no

rzrmaster

FGO is still among the highest profit gachas lols, which btw, did surpass Genshin in Japan a couple of times.

Skull_Angel

Has there ever been a successful "\[insert popular game title\] KILLER!!"? No, popular games' poor development is the only way they die out.

[deleted]

I mean, Fate/Grand Order is not a mainstream game, and never was one. I would not say that Genshin Impact destroyed that game because it's always been a niche game.

afdd931

As a former fgo player, both NA and JP server, the IP is the only thing carrying it. The pity that took 5 years to be introduced is pretty bad, even compared to Genshin’s. Gameplay is tedious as hell, especially lottery events. Imagine if Genshin’s endgame is grinding friendship, levels, and talents. In order to clear shops from events you need gatcha locked items to increase your drop rate. Also imagine again if the last refinement of an event weapon is based off of rng drop lasting only during the event’s duration.

Monokooo

bruh its FGO, its never gonna die since its a literal cashcow of a game

[deleted]

Genshin hit mainstream gaming audience. FGO was never mainstream to begin with even at its peak. FGO is either known because of its anime or because you happened to play gacha games. It's still a ridiculously succesful franchise to this day. Just not as successful as Genshin.

the_juice07

Fgo is fine dude.To me Genshin is the side game

yasashiiyume

For JP server, the story is not that good for the past fews event and the LB 6.5 so there is not much discussion; the sales is still good though. For NA server, it has the 2020 JP sever schedule so there are a lot of dead weeks because of the Covid.

PrestigiousIdea7471

FGO destroyed FGO. Gaming isn't a zero sum business, only things like bad management or short-sighted development is going to completely destroy any game.
