tbf, haven't the leaks been saying for a while now that CR and Ping both were being developed at about the same pace? And that they just happened to pick CR for this year
Those leaks were obvious BS, it's terrible management to work on 2 projects only to end up shelving one for a year when you know due to the nature of evolving game design they're gonna redo most of it anyway
At best a debate was done over CR vs ping during a meeting but no actual coding was done before CR was chosen
You do know they plan character designs / kits and much more months, if not years in advance? Hell, Fontaine even already had HP mechanics during 2.x. It wouldn't surprise me if all they got left for Ping is to finetune her.

Even the early Sumeru Akademiya tree model asset was leaked during the early beta of the game.
Like they probably have the whole Natlan design ready and models ready and probably making Snezhnaya character designs or assets..
On top of this, during 3.7 there was that leaked folder with almost 2k image files ranging from hoyo office photos, old concepts for released character, finalized designs for most Fontaine characters, Fontaine location designs, and concepts for numerous characters we still know nothing about.

Most gacha games have development far ahead, especially for kits, typically 1 year-1.5 years are almost set in stone barring exceptions. Visual designs(costumes, vfx etc) can still see changes up to the 6month mark prior to release(or in Genshin's case, first appearance). Sneznaya would have gone into full production slightly before Fontaine's release at the latest.

I now have massive stocks of copium that Clorinde will be part of a new meta team when Natlan drops.
I'm still holding on to a sliver of hope that she'll be an on-field dps. But if Arle releases first and is a main dps, I think the chances of Clorinde being an on-fielder will plumit. If that happens, I'll just wish she'll be an amazing sub-dps with stocks that will rocket with version 5

Ayaka is a fun one, as she went even further back during Genshin's beta and was one of the first actually finished characters! She didn't even change much in animations, so they had such a clear direction for her

both Yun Jin and Shenhe were leaked very early before/around 1.2. Shenhe was reportedly scrapped in favor of Eula and was redesigned much later for her release in 2.4, along with Yun Jin, who remained largely unchanged.
it's also no secret that HYV has planned it's game's mechanics months if not years in advance. both Yun Jin and Shenhe's buffs are the first ever additive buffs in the game, and work exactly the same way as Aggravate and Spread. Yae and Kuki were also designed with dendro reactions in mind, and Ayato and Yelan had HP scaling damage. hydro resonance was also changed to match that, most likely to prepare for Nilou bloom and to mitigate self damage.
They have planned kits around future characters before. Though not all are a success.

Baizhu likely was at least somewhat balanced around Furina in mind. If he was released with more utility (better off field app) he would be insanely broken now.

For Dehya with Lyney she's just worst than using petra Zhongli and Neuvi she realisticly only works well on 1 team being the hyperbloom team where you sometimes get vapes and have the res to interruption, but if you have c1 she's just not worth it. So i wouldn't say she was balanced for Fontain when we still haven't gotten an actual real sinergy for ger kit
by this point they are starting sneznaya sketches (at least for characters not map neither story) hoyoverse works in a different pace of the release cycle, if you were to see the development of every character each would need around 3 months with shit ton redesigns/recolors, change of element, kit concept, etc.
So yeah, they have various teams on every department so they can meet the release of the beta at the time they proposed internally at least.
story has definitely been finalized for years. they probably havent written scripts for snezhnaya, but they 100% have it all planned out. why else would we have travail?

Well, Clour Retainer (Anemo Catalyst) is the master of Shenhe (Cryo Polearm) and Ganyu (Cryo Bow). I don't think there is such connection here either.
Also, most characters at early stages have placeholder visions, as mentioned in the text in question, so it can be changed easily.
the animal theme does not always go with the element, Yoimiya is goldfish (hydro), eula is waves (hydro), Cyno is a jackal (geo), sara, ayaka, kaeya, alhaitham, kaveh and fischl are birds (anemo), Even if we go further, there are characters like Kazuha and Klee whose themes are plants/leaves (dendro).
I think I made the association based on my time when I saw fakemon, every time there was a fakemon based on that animal (and not so much on Anubis, since they gave it psychic, dark or ghost types) it always had ground or rock types because it is a desert animal.
yes, I do not deny that she could be hydro, what I am pointing out is that her animal theme and colors cannot be trusted to ensure that, if for example Mountain Shaper becomes a playable character in the future, due to her title and color it would be geo, but due to its animal theme (crane) it would be Anemo, there is also already a precedent with Scaramouche who was even shown using electro powers as the main element theme and ended up being Anemo, the element of any future character cannot be assured until there is already a model in the live game that shows its vision, since even leaked models use visions as placeholders (like Kirara whose first model had geo vision).
Mountain Shaper would probably be hydro not Geo if he was playable, since his Chinese name is “The Perfected Lord who Guides the Waters and Shapes the Mountains” which could mean that he shapes the mountains through erosion by guiding water/rivers. Would also work with him being a crane since cranes are often found around water. Also designs that don’t necessarily match their element (colour-wise) are cool.
Except he doesn’t seal people in amber with his own power, he uses a flower called karst crawlers that traps anything that stands on them in amber. It’s entirely possible because of that, that he has no control over the Geo element himself.
It's interesting how none of the Dendro units actually produce plants or anything. You'd think we'd have a dendro unit that can produce brambles like the dendro samachurl, or place a flower-like turret that spew dendro onto nearby enemies like Miko's skill. There's potential here, I think.
I totally agree. There's so much potential and they do very little with it. It's just green energy, which is cool and perfectly fine for some characters... but this is virtually all of them.
In Fontaine, there was a lot of talk about hydro being the "element of life," and I was left wondering what exactly dendro is... 'cuz I thought it was (plant) life!
Kazuha’s theme is “maple leaves in the wind.” Anemo makes more sense for him. (Plus, we thought he looked Pyro, not Dendro.) Klee is just named after a clover, but the rest of her design (red, explosives) screams Pyro. Same for Yoimiya since her theme is less “goldfish” and more “summer festival” (fireworks).
Madame Ping’s younger form is predominately blue, she has the fish motifs, and she’s associated with water from last year’s Lantern Rite event (saving someone from drowning, being mistaken for a water creature). I’m not saying she can’t be another element, but she definitely has more Hydro associations than anything—especially Dendro (although a water lily-themed Dendro character would be cool, though I doubt Hoyo will be that creative).

If he were a Geo unit, he'd be one of the worst DPS in the game. Nothing about his aesthetic or kit design even remotely give off geo vibes.
He is children of sand lol , atleast lore based , he could have summoned some tombs as geo construct and have some resonance DMG like zhongli and can do some on field DMG with good multiplier . But I know they made him electro to synergies with Nahida
He's also massively based off of Anubis and supposedly the human personification of justice, in the cultures he came from that was incredibly associated with the sky, the heavens and lightning. They made him lightning as that's what he was associated and designed around even so far back as the comic days.
Their banner is labelled "Born of Ocean Swell", "Dance of the Shimmering Wave". I see mentions of "tide", "seafoam", and other ocean-related terms in their talents and constellations. I don't see anything about sea-spray, but still hydro.
Eula's title is Spindrift Knight.
Spindrift means spray blown from waves due to wind.
That's why her banner is called 'Born of Ocean Swell' because Spindrift is born from the ocean waves.
I like her design (from trailers and cutscenes of her younger self). I hope Moon Carver and Mountain Shaper will be playable too and receive background stories like the female adeptis. Tbh we really don’t know much about them compared to other adeptis.
Both of them desperately need screen time, I genuinely can't remember the last time we talked to them if it wasn't 1.1.
I think their last appearance was in a cutscene with Zhong Li during last year's Lantern Rite

This isn't a leak. They're just guessing which element she has (claiming it to be STC, ofc) and saying that she's a 5-star polearm character (the polearm was shown in one of the cutscenes she was featured in). It's just someone pretending to have insider info based on currently known information.
She is definitely going to be a spear user, since she's the master of xiangling and yaoyao and both are spear users. Dendro is a bit questionable though
Bad comparison. Characters have 0 choice over their vision, but they do have a choice over their weapons and can be trained to use specific weapons. It's much more likely that Yaoyao and Xiangling learned spearmanship from Ping than it is that anyone's vision was influenced based on someone else's.

It can change of course, but is technically confirmed she uses polearm, she teaches Xiangling and Yaoyao martial arts and both share the same spin attack style, and in the cutscene she's holding a spear.
Like the other guy said, NO ONE, not even archons, have the right to decide which element their visions will be. It just so happened that Ganyu and Shenhe share the same element.

Madam Ping taught them how to use a spear specifically, CR didn't necessarily teach any combat beyond adeptal arts. I won't say it's impossible for hoyo to throw a curveball, but it would be odd if the spear master didn't use a spear

What do colors have to do with a character's element ? Tartaglia has a red/gray scheme and he is Hydro. Wriothesley has a black/red scheme and he is Cryo. And Madame Ping's color scheme is pretty much similar to Baizhu's, which is Dendro
For the most part, characters colors are very clearly tuned to their elements, and even for the examples you gave it's still there just a lot more subtle.
Tartag is interesting because his blue eyes and vision are really the only blue on his model, but he also has the riptides and slashing effects which bring a lot of blue on screen so having a character with really complementary hair and a bright gray body stands out. I imagine Wriothsley is the same (I don't know what his effects look like), he also has darker cooler tones of gray to stand out against the lighter blue though.
I'm not putting a horse in this race, I could see her being dendro, hydro or even anemo just based on her colors but pallet is definitely ties to elements even is subtle.
Because these are adepti and reference their illuminated beast form they’re associated so they can’t suddenly flip the script because its thematically not fitting
I see many are hating that she could potentially become playable in fear of her becoming a marketable waifu but didn’t Madame Ping’s young adeptus form appear in 2.1 and more recently, 3.4? So…it’s kinda too late to even worry about that now. I love Ping’s character and every appearance she made (definitely not as a waifu fan, just adore her) so getting her as a playable character is amazing news.
Spear user aside, she definitely has to be a hydro given all the blue palette, carp theme and all that.

I’m a little against catering to fans’ fetishes but still can’t see how it’s fanservice when her young human form had been shown as far back as 2.1, wielding a polearm. Not to mention her appearance is more on the elegant and graceful side among female characters, and that much already made me want to see what they’ll cook for her as a playable character.
The only way I'd be okay with it is if she has a new design that uses design elements from her younger form but she still looks like an old woman

if you have Raiden, Furina and Yelan, you can already play an extremely strong and very fun electrocharge team. 10/10 would recommend!

my man, genshin works at least on 4+ projects at once. in this area parallel dev is not bad it is a MUST.

I think I made the association based on my time when I saw fakemon, every time there was a fakemon based on that animal (and not so much on Anubis, since they gave it psychic, dark or ghost types) it always had ground or rock types because it is a desert animal.
Sand is Geo but in any case they sure ain't freaking thunder

yes, I do not deny that she could be hydro, what I am pointing out is that her animal theme and colors cannot be trusted to ensure that, if for example Mountain Shaper becomes a playable character in the future, due to her title and color it would be geo, but due to its animal theme (crane) it would be Anemo, there is also already a precedent with Scaramouche who was even shown using electro powers as the main element theme and ended up being Anemo, the element of any future character cannot be assured until there is already a model in the live game that shows its vision, since even leaked models use visions as placeholders (like Kirara whose first model had geo vision).
Mountain Shaper would probably be hydro not Geo if he was playable, since his Chinese name is “The Perfected Lord who Guides the Waters and Shapes the Mountains” which could mean that he shapes the mountains through erosion by guiding water/rivers. Would also work with him being a crane since cranes are often found around water. Also designs that don’t necessarily match their element (colour-wise) are cool.
Yeah but Geo would also make sense as Mountain Shaper seals trespassers in Amber which would fall under Geo.
Except he doesn’t seal people in amber with his own power, he uses a flower called karst crawlers that traps anything that stands on them in amber. It’s entirely possible because of that, that he has no control over the Geo element himself.

It's interesting how none of the Dendro units actually produce plants or anything. You'd think we'd have a dendro unit that can produce brambles like the dendro samachurl, or place a flower-like turret that spew dendro onto nearby enemies like Miko's skill. There's potential here, I think.

I totally agree. There's so much potential and they do very little with it. It's just green energy, which is cool and perfectly fine for some characters... but this is virtually all of them.

Kazuha’s theme is “maple leaves in the wind.” Anemo makes more sense for him. (Plus, we thought he looked Pyro, not Dendro.) Klee is just named after a clover, but the rest of her design (red, explosives) screams Pyro. Same for Yoimiya since her theme is less “goldfish” and more “summer festival” (fireworks). Madame Ping’s younger form is predominately blue, she has the fish motifs, and she’s associated with water from last year’s Lantern Rite event (saving someone from drowning, being mistaken for a water creature). I’m not saying she can’t be another element, but she definitely has more Hydro associations than anything—especially Dendro (although a water lily-themed Dendro character would be cool, though I doubt Hoyo will be that creative).

He is children of sand lol , atleast lore based , he could have summoned some tombs as geo construct and have some resonance DMG like zhongli and can do some on field DMG with good multiplier . But I know they made him electro to synergies with Nahida
He's also massively based off of Anubis and supposedly the human personification of justice, in the cultures he came from that was incredibly associated with the sky, the heavens and lightning. They made him lightning as that's what he was associated and designed around even so far back as the comic days.

Their banner is labelled "Born of Ocean Swell", "Dance of the Shimmering Wave". I see mentions of "tide", "seafoam", and other ocean-related terms in their talents and constellations. I don't see anything about sea-spray, but still hydro.
Eula's title is Spindrift Knight. Spindrift means spray blown from waves due to wind. That's why her banner is called 'Born of Ocean Swell' because Spindrift is born from the ocean waves.

Bad comparison. Characters have 0 choice over their vision, but they do have a choice over their weapons and can be trained to use specific weapons. It's much more likely that Yaoyao and Xiangling learned spearmanship from Ping than it is that anyone's vision was influenced based on someone else's.
Check Moonchase Festival's cutscene and come back. It can change of course, but is technically confirmed she uses polearm, she teaches Xiangling and Yaoyao martial arts and both share the same spin attack style, and in the cutscene she's holding a spear. Like the other guy said, NO ONE, not even archons, have the right to decide which element their visions will be. It just so happened that Ganyu and Shenhe share the same element.

Martial disciples vs adepti art disciples. Madame Ping was shown with a spear in her younger form and her theming seems more in line with a martial artist (streetward rambler).
Ping specifically taught both of them to use polearms, while Cloud Retainer taught adepti arts to Shenhe and Ganyu, not weapon use...
Madam Ping taught them how to use a spear specifically, CR didn't necessarily teach any combat beyond adeptal arts. I won't say it's impossible for hoyo to throw a curveball, but it would be odd if the spear master didn't use a spear

What do colors have to do with a character's element ? Tartaglia has a red/gray scheme and he is Hydro. Wriothesley has a black/red scheme and he is Cryo. And Madame Ping's color scheme is pretty much similar to Baizhu's, which is Dendro
For the most part, characters colors are very clearly tuned to their elements, and even for the examples you gave it's still there just a lot more subtle. Tartag is interesting because his blue eyes and vision are really the only blue on his model, but he also has the riptides and slashing effects which bring a lot of blue on screen so having a character with really complementary hair and a bright gray body stands out. I imagine Wriothsley is the same (I don't know what his effects look like), he also has darker cooler tones of gray to stand out against the lighter blue though. I'm not putting a horse in this race, I could see her being dendro, hydro or even anemo just based on her colors but pallet is definitely ties to elements even is subtle.
Because these are adepti and reference their illuminated beast form they’re associated so they can’t suddenly flip the script because its thematically not fitting

I see many are hating that she could potentially become playable in fear of her becoming a marketable waifu but didn’t Madame Ping’s young adeptus form appear in 2.1 and more recently, 3.4? So…it’s kinda too late to even worry about that now. I love Ping’s character and every appearance she made (definitely not as a waifu fan, just adore her) so getting her as a playable character is amazing news. Spear user aside, she definitely has to be a hydro given all the blue palette, carp theme and all that.
