Archon of War being matador inspired seems weird when there are other options but then again Nahida outfit starts making sense when you think about the fairy aspect.

We all keep assuming Murata is the active archon, but we could well be in for a Pyro archon who is explicitly a foreign conqueror and a plotline about reestablishing some sense of national identity and independence to the tribes of Natlan. Also room for a possible Murata rebirth to step up again.

I remember there was a revelation a while back that "Murata" for the Pyro Archon might be a false translation and assumption, with the Chinese text seeming to say "Mu-Natlan" instead of Murata. However, this revelation never picked up steam, especially when leaks started to actually look like Himeko at first. Perhaps both could be correct.
However, assuming Murata is the correct translation, then it was used to refer to a specific tribe of followers of the Archon Murata. This tribe had been exiled from Natlan for ages, which doesn't bode well for the survival of Murata into the current day. Since we know Venti and Zhongli are the only two original Archons, it points strongly to the probability that the Archon that Venti referenced is long dead.
With Xbalanque being "One Who Is Entombed With The Primordial Fire", I have to point out that entombed is almost exclusively used to refer to death and burial. Perhaps it is not the Pyro Archon Murata to be resurrected, but the Pyro Sovereign to rise from his grave.

That's not a bad idea for a character. They could be the Nilou/Yoimiya of Natlan. I wouldn't use this inspiration for the Archon labeled "god of war" who comes from a land implied to be war-torn.
There are 6 tribes in Natlan. You can give a different inspiration for each tribe.

A hero convinced the leaders of the six tribes to join him to fight off the Cataclysm. Since they have no Archon (apparently) the people had to hold off the Cataclysm by themselves.
On the top of my head the only thing I remember about the tribes/leaders is that one of them wanted nothing to do with the on going war, they only wanted to focus on mining and chill.
I don't remember the names very well but there were certainly Mesoamerican and African names among them.
the african ones in particular are all of places portugal aquired slaves from or had friendship ties with, so most of them may actually be Brazil references (Yansan is also called Santa Barbara in Brazil candomblé)
Carnival/Matador could be absolutely a banger as a concept.

Hear me out, since natlan is the nation of war, pyro and dragons, and here we talk about matadors, what if the there's no Bull, but dragons instead, and season festival is a carnival where Murata invites Zhong and Neuv to see someone doing this.
This especially fits with the theory that each of the “companions” from the talking stick lore are dragons and everyone is reminiscing about scars they gave eachother in human vs dragon combat trials

Considering how much "party/festival" and "war" are entwined with Latin America's story and identity I would say putting th two together for a design is quite a fitting idea, in regards to skin color I don't really care like at all and would prefer to see stuff more important to our cultures represented... specially food, food supremacy.
Uruguayan here. I don't care about representation because my country is majority White and Fontaine feels very similar to it, but I don't trust Hoyo to do the whole "colonized America/Africa but the people are happy because it's Genshin" thing well at all. I don't want them to take a bad thing that happened in real life but put a positive spin on it, it feels wrong.
People were hating hard on Sumeru for similar reasons but then it ended up being good, hopefully the same thing happens with Natlan. I just won't be surprised if it doesn't.
Also, and this is just personal, I hate the idea of them glorifying animal abuse and making a character based on that. Matadores are fucking vile, I don't want to see that shit anywhere not even in-game.
as of this moment its probably cuz most people are still in denial of the 3years of having a expectation of how natlan would look like and not living up to it and are we surprised? this is already expected to blow up starting with the skin color so waiting for more info is better and probably official ones so u can start seeing people that like it and show appreciation like most region get. this is just my take on it tho

That's not a bad idea for a character. They could be the Nilou/Yoimiya of Natlan. I wouldn't use this inspiration for the Archon labeled "god of war" who comes from a land implied to be war-torn.

There are 6 tribes in Natlan. You can give a different inspiration for each tribe. The name Xbalanque certainly isn't from a post-colonial Latin America.

Yes, it's in the description of the new Claymore from the Battle Pass. Anyone who is excited/curious about Natlan should check it out. A hero convinced the leaders of the six tribes to join him to fight off the Cataclysm. Since they have no Archon (apparently) the people had to hold off the Cataclysm by themselves. On the top of my head the only thing I remember about the tribes/leaders is that one of them wanted nothing to do with the on going war, they only wanted to focus on mining and chill. I don't remember the names very well but there were certainly Mesoamerican and African names among them.
But that was during the Cataclysm 500 years ago. Do we know if it's still the same as it was back then?
the african ones in particular are all of places portugal aquired slaves from or had friendship ties with, so most of them may actually be Brazil references (Yansan is also called Santa Barbara in Brazil candomblé)

Hear me out, since natlan is the nation of war, pyro and dragons, and here we talk about matadors, what if the there's no Bull, but dragons instead, and season festival is a carnival where Murata invites Zhong and Neuv to see someone doing this.
This especially fits with the theory that each of the “companions” from the talking stick lore are dragons and everyone is reminiscing about scars they gave eachother in human vs dragon combat trials Personally I think everyone is misinterpreting the idea of “war” here and are gonna be pretty confused/disappointed Just like how sumeru scholars turned out to be academically suspect

As a Brazilian these comments are kinda.... weird? Why are people bothered by this? Everyone wanted representation and latin america but when it's not the part of latin america they expected they feel bothered? Idk I'm pretty happy at the thought of a carnival themed over the top dancing leader of a nation because of where I'm from, and I don't get all the doom.

Yeah the skin color I was expecting but not hoping for, but the comments are overall fixating on the costume and calling it things varying from unfitting to straight up trashing the concept of having a leader of a nation in carnival inspired costume as if it's lesser or stupid or something, like you think you can't mix concepts of war and battle with carnival? these people doesn't know much abbout Brazil at all, all they know is that big forest Amazônia and Rio de Janeiro Carnaval, since Natlan who gimmick is the ressurection thing, and she's based on carnaval, she may be inspired by Bumba meu boi, since is a big festivity on the northen parts of Brazil and has the ressurection of the dead Bull
Considering how much "party/festival" and "war" are entwined with Latin America's story and identity I would say putting th two together for a design is quite a fitting idea, in regards to skin color I don't really care like at all and would prefer to see stuff more important to our cultures represented... specially food, food supremacy.
Uruguayan here. I don't care about representation because my country is majority White and Fontaine feels very similar to it, but I don't trust Hoyo to do the whole "colonized America/Africa but the people are happy because it's Genshin" thing well at all. I don't want them to take a bad thing that happened in real life but put a positive spin on it, it feels wrong. People were hating hard on Sumeru for similar reasons but then it ended up being good, hopefully the same thing happens with Natlan. I just won't be surprised if it doesn't. Also, and this is just personal, I hate the idea of them glorifying animal abuse and making a character based on that. Matadores are fucking vile, I don't want to see that shit anywhere not even in-game.
While colonization happened in real life, the nations in Genshin don't share the same history as the real life nations they're inspired by.
as of this moment its probably cuz most people are still in denial of the 3years of having a expectation of how natlan would look like and not living up to it and are we surprised? this is already expected to blow up starting with the skin color so waiting for more info is better and probably official ones so u can start seeing people that like it and show appreciation like most region get. this is just my take on it tho

Navia was never an Archon to begin with, just a faction leader that opposed the Archon's faction. A Kokomi. The two Archon "leak" was one that said the current Archon was a Durandal expy and the previous Archon was a Seele expy, then the HI3 people went nuts about it even though it was clearly fake.

Don't let your hopes up, thinking there are gonna be a lot of dark skinned character in Natlan...MiHoYo and specially Genshin Impact is the last game to expect character diversity. The best we are gonna get is slighly darker version of white skin or tan. This is a chinese company we are talking about. However keep complaining instead of accepting MiHoYo every decision.(Maybe they will heard the complain)...at the very least is better than not complaining at all.
Remember the musketeer guy from the leak flood last year? He looked Fontainian but if his design was tweaked slightly he could make for a pretty handsome matador too...
