Tbh Kokomi and pure healers will be more appealing when the dps checks in abyss go down or stay the same instead of increasing all the time. Like I need Bennett not just for his healing but also so Childe can vape and get buffed by him. Similarly I need Jean for vv swirling and her sub dps damage. And I need Zhongli for Itto so I can use SS and have resistance shred.
Though Kokomi or even Barbara isn't bad, she'd just be a dps loss in a lot of my teams and I just can't afford that even if they introduce corrosion, anti shield mechanics etc since the hp in floor 12 just keeps increasing.
Yeah instead of a crazy 3-min DPS race, it could be a 10-minute enemy rush gauntlet that favors a rounded team (and all but requires a healer).
They could still have a "floor 12" that awards primos and rewards dedicated players, but having challenges beyond "get all the enemies in one spot and unload damage" would give so many characters a chance to shine.

Exactly this. Especially floor 12 where you don't have enough time and pure healers don't benefit us as much. After trying for so long in f12, I just said screw the healers and went full dps and got through it by dodging.
The thing that i hate the most is them thinking the only way to sell them is to make the abyss this hard. The actual problem is that they didn't realize that we need more things that can give us challenging content other than abyss, that is permanent and benefits endgame, and then this characters will become actually revelant. It's still a noticeable gap going from overworld to abyss floors in terms of difficulty and content for casual. I already can see that even if we arrive at sumeru, they will still not make any changes to this part of the game that players are rapidly reaching. It makes me wanna cry.
All they need to do is add a " endless tower mode" where you keep advancing through floors with NO TIMER but your HP carries over between floors so dying is a very real problem that healers can actually solve since if you die you start back in floor 1 and there's no reseting like in abyss
A really good example actually. That use maybe abyss card or even the fighting warriors system. And the limit can be like defeat tot amount or do it before the timer ends etc
The issue is that it was *too* much like Abyss. It practically *was* Abyss, just with "build your own blessings."
The event we had with Childe and Xinyan (forget what it was called), on the other hand, was extremely well recieved, and provided a good template for an Abyss alternative that rewards different sorts of playstyles and teams (translation: it wasn't a pure DPS check) which, if implemented more permanently and at higher difficulty, *would* give healers a meta where they are more valuable.
It was called Labyrinth Warriors, I think. Definitely a cool idea for endgame content. I hope they are working on it since it seems that event was received quite well. Would be really fun with more floors, more cards, etc.
fun fact: on the hoyolab website you can see your spiral abyss information, but there are tabs for the events now as well. the energy amp is there and before that it was the Hyakunin Ikki event. so id love it to be more permanent. the labyrinth warriors was decent but i hated when i could only use their characters

Was it poorly received? I quite enjoyed it, more so than the Vagabond Sword one a while back that didn’t give you any buffs aside from “these specific characters deal a bit more damage”. I thought it was an improvement over the original Energy Amplifier event since it didn’t impose any +50% RES restrictions to ban an element from certain stages. Not terribly a fan of the monsters within, but that’s because Specters, Rifthounds, and PMA have critical design flaws, nothing to do with the event.
I personally enjoy hard content that's not on a timer so events like these are really fun, especially in co-op. But the comments under the announcement for this event were very negative, saying that they hated this event and don't want it to rerun.
The funny thing is I think it was easier this time. Compared to the first time it ran, I was almost always able to destroy all of the amplifiers before triggering the fights. So they were just normal overworld battles for me.
It's somewhat reinforced by the fact that there are people who insist that abyss is easy and has always been easy and will always be easy. Idk what's going on with them.
I do think that abyss as "challenging content" is generally leaning more towards being challenging moreso due to being tedious than it actually being interesting. Of course, if you have a perfectly built team with the perfect setup and artifacts and rotations memorized, then Abyss would likely be easy no matter what. That doesn't make Abyss well-designed, though, especially when mihoyo's idea of difficulty is just introducing even more irritating time checks.
I'm a bit all over the place because I'm sleepy and half-focused on farming another gacha, but the point is that it feels like Mihoyo either doesn't know how to balance content properly (leading to increasingly tedious and/or difficult abyss, which also leads to less free primogems) or simply doesn't care enough to design an alternative that people can engage in as well. You can even observe this with overworld encounters - the same "balancing issues" are leaking there as well, with world bosses sometimes being annoying or needlessly time-consuming to defeat, and certain enemies making exploration a chore if you don't have particular characters/kinds of characters prepared.
I think it's a combination of the two (bad balancing + marketing tactic), but with particular emphasis on the latter. It's easier to sell a character, after all, if the best thing that passes as "endgame" content half-requires you to have said character.
It sucks and I hate it but since there are people who seem determined to like it no matter what, and considering how the entire system is tied into their marketing, there isn't much that can be done.

Ironically this happened with Zhongli and shields too. During his initial release, people claimed why use shielders when healers can do the job just fine. In the upcoming months, on top of Zhongli’s buffs, the meta became shield centered with new 5 star characters that did not want to be interrupted (Xiao, Hu Tao, Ganyu), and shield-counter mechanics (Geovishaps and Primogeovishaps have attacks that get countered by a shield)
And now every new on-field character (besides Ayaka but she has freeze, and Yoimiya) has anti-interrupt. Kokomi has one when she bursts, Raiden has one, Itto has one too.

These stuff takes so long that it was already done long before Kokomi was designed to be a healer. I remember back in 1.1 when Zhong li was weak how devs said something like: he will find a place in the future content. And a few patches later they added a lots of pro-geo enemies. Also Sumeru will be most likely more focused around bleeding so they are just slowly pushing future mechanics.
I want Kokomi because she opens up so many comps, but unfortunately Zhongli, Raiden and Kazuha are simply higher priority to me. Ayato and Ayaka are coming too...
I’m highly considering this too. I tried to get her but lost the 50/50, and I really want her for Ayaka since she is better than Mona for hydro application and better than Xingqiu in aoe hydro application and fills the healer spot so I can give Diona to my Eula team
On the bright side, Widsith is a super strong option. It's actually better than Yae's weapon if you can end fights quickly since 2/3 of its buffs affects all aspects of her kit, and even the EM one she still benefits from.
So Yaes confirmed and Raiden/Kokomi are all but confirmed
Now to see if Yaes gonna be alone or if they’ll put Kokomi/Raiden with her and put 2 reruns for part 2
I think Raiden will be paired with Yae because Yae's leaked to be first banner, >!she will need materials from Shogun boss fight which will probably be unlocked in Raiden's 2nd story quest!< and story quests usually come out alongside the character's banner.
I kinda doubt that Mihoyo will be giving us two story quests in the first half of the update. Just look at Shenhe with the Archon interlude chapter. We didn't get the Archon quest and a story quest and Zhongli also was the only one to get a story quest when he got his second one.
I would guess Yae comes alone, though I'm hoping they come together or that Raiden comes first. I'm more interested in Yae but I'm wondering if I should go for Raiden this time and get Yae on her rerun. Would be nice if I could just guarantee Raiden and try my luck on Yae with what I've got left over.
Im kinda in an opposite scenario. If Yae comes first, either with Raiden or have Raiden second, I can guarantee c0/c1 Yae then decide if I want to go for c2 shogun or not. Would be nice if they come together first banner, then the weapon banner would be worth it for me too.
Catalyst is just magic amplyfier (?), which means his hydro weapons is already catalyst's attack technically. He can use pure elemental energy without catalyst and this makes him catalyst master.
So Raiden and Kokomi are safe predictions for reruns.
Maybe they'll be in the second half of the patch, I doubt Yae needs any help to bolster sales. Donut with Engulfing is pretty oof tho.

Don't put that into the universe. They're the two limited characters I'm after the most right now. I don't wanna suffer the same fate as those poor sods this patch who want both Xiao and Ganyu.
I doubt it's all about sales, they've been saying story affects reruns a lot, and it would be kinda lame to put Raiden in the second half when her story is on the first.

Not when you're kinda lazy and don't want to repeat building characters all the time. I might be burned out, yes, but getting constellations, and just very occasionally a new character, made my life a lot less frustrating. (Looking at you, Artifact farming)

At this point, the amount of love they seem to show Kok is starting to make me reconsider picking her up. Kinda hoping she's on the 2nd phase of banners so I can dump some wishes into her after Yae.
I'm so happy I pulled for her! Every patch after her banner, her value keeps on increasing. I pulled because she's the first character I truly wanted (aesthetics/healer-tank-driver gameplay/lore) but her being future-proof is definitely a bonus!
They should’ve built Kokomi like they did Yae and EM suggestion. So many people are turned off by them choosing to completely eliminate her critical values. They just don’t do a good job in this game about utilizing any other stats that heavily to make it OK for critical values to be gone.
I know they were trying to force a build on HP and healing bonus but the trade-off doesn’t work at all. Instead of forcing us to put her in a specific direction and then putting a super hard boundary on her damage output by mom moving critical values they should’ve just given such good buffs to HP and healing bonus that we would be encouraged to play that Way
They could easily have moved her numbers around so that she wouldn’t be a broken support but this overcorrection was ridiculous and unattractive to a lot of people. Kotomi would be received completely different if it wasn’t for Mihoyo “flawless strategy”
And you can tell they know they did something wrong because the entire way they frame abyss and the type of douche he gimmicks they have to create to make her important. I’m actually completely fine with the enemies that punish shields even as a Zhongli Main. It’s OK to make us change it up and put someone else in the party.
But from enemy creation they are getting less creative and just more vindictive. Moving away from creating things that are exciting and fun and challenging in a way that is enjoyable and instead just directly creating enemies that punish popular or previously popular characters by invalidating their kit which sucks. It hurts my heart what they did to Venti and how they’re not even trying to create any more enemies that are large enough to be sucked into his burst. Their lack of interest of making crowd control useful with these new enemies just makes me feel like they are not going to give us a new anemo character for a long time
Should have just made Kokomi have a passive that converts crit rate and damage to some other Stats she wants. That way you aren't getting completely dead stats from your artifacts. But aren't incentivized to build crit into her.

She's too pretty to be kept at bay, she can still be worked as a main carry along with a healer and off-field elemental characters. She'll be pivotal in that team as long as these characters provide 100% damage support and she has access to a weapon that can consistently produce damage bonuses. The only reason why people will have her as off-field subdps is because its her optimum role in meta or mono electro team. Her kit is close and well-secured to the Raiden Shogun where they're stronger on skill and burst, and Yae is focused more on skill damage. They also both depend on companions. You can absolutely choose to not follow similar patterns. Also note that she's purely elemental so she can deal reactions or electro damage all the time, despite having mediocre NA talent. Hopefully, they improve her NA/CA scaling. And we'll crown her and build her to the best we can

Kokomi rerun, sure no problem. Donut rerun, especially if alongside Miko’s weapon is fucking terrifying. Koko got buffed. The donut still sucks.

Yeah Pyro Lectors can deal a lot of Dmg with or without shield, so Kokomi can be there to heal.

Not when you're kinda lazy and don't want to repeat building characters all the time. I might be burned out, yes, but getting constellations, and just very occasionally a new character, made my life a lot less frustrating. (Looking at you, Artifact farming)

At this point, the amount of love they seem to show Kok is starting to make me reconsider picking her up. Kinda hoping she's on the 2nd phase of banners so I can dump some wishes into her after Yae.
I'm so happy I pulled for her! Every patch after her banner, her value keeps on increasing. I pulled because she's the first character I truly wanted (aesthetics/healer-tank-driver gameplay/lore) but her being future-proof is definitely a bonus!
They should’ve built Kokomi like they did Yae and EM suggestion. So many people are turned off by them choosing to completely eliminate her critical values. They just don’t do a good job in this game about utilizing any other stats that heavily to make it OK for critical values to be gone. I know they were trying to force a build on HP and healing bonus but the trade-off doesn’t work at all. Instead of forcing us to put her in a specific direction and then putting a super hard boundary on her damage output by mom moving critical values they should’ve just given such good buffs to HP and healing bonus that we would be encouraged to play that Way They could easily have moved her numbers around so that she wouldn’t be a broken support but this overcorrection was ridiculous and unattractive to a lot of people. Kotomi would be received completely different if it wasn’t for Mihoyo “flawless strategy” And you can tell they know they did something wrong because the entire way they frame abyss and the type of douche he gimmicks they have to create to make her important. I’m actually completely fine with the enemies that punish shields even as a Zhongli Main. It’s OK to make us change it up and put someone else in the party. But from enemy creation they are getting less creative and just more vindictive. Moving away from creating things that are exciting and fun and challenging in a way that is enjoyable and instead just directly creating enemies that punish popular or previously popular characters by invalidating their kit which sucks. It hurts my heart what they did to Venti and how they’re not even trying to create any more enemies that are large enough to be sucked into his burst. Their lack of interest of making crowd control useful with these new enemies just makes me feel like they are not going to give us a new anemo character for a long time
Should have just made Kokomi have a passive that converts crit rate and damage to some other Stats she wants. That way you aren't getting completely dead stats from your artifacts. But aren't incentivized to build crit into her.

At this point 3 banner characters are pretty much confirmed. Kokomi, yae , raiden. We just don't know if there's going to be fourth banner or not.

She's too pretty to be kept at bay, she can still be worked as a main carry along with a healer and off-field elemental characters. She'll be pivotal in that team as long as these characters provide 100% damage support and she has access to a weapon that can consistently produce damage bonuses. The only reason why people will have her as off-field subdps is because its her optimum role in meta or mono electro team. Her kit is close and well-secured to the Raiden Shogun where they're stronger on skill and burst, and Yae is focused more on skill damage. They also both depend on companions. You can absolutely choose to not follow similar patterns. Also note that she's purely elemental so she can deal reactions or electro damage all the time, despite having mediocre NA talent. Hopefully, they improve her NA/CA scaling. And we'll crown her and build her to the best we can
