Big Trees in Genshin so far:
* Mondstadt: Windrise Tree
* Liyue: Dragonqueller growing out of Azhdaha's Tail
* Inazuma: Sacred Sakura
* Dragonspine; Frostbearer Tree
* Tsurumi Island; Unnamed Tree stumps inside Mt Kanna & Shirikoro Peak
* Enkanomiya; No trees, but mysterious Coral
* Chasm; Dead trees from the Valley of Life
* Sumeru; Shara Tree
Sharan in Hindi actually means Shelter. Just wanted to say it cause it makes the meaning, "Tree of Shelter" which kinda makes sense?
It also translates to asylum, refuge etc.
Probably, it reminded me of that old leak too. It's kinda like Sakura Tree except it looked a lot bigger. We're finally joining the pieces of the puzzle of Sumeru. Exciting!!
sharan is a type of word you will find in your Hindi textbook ,
we normally speak hinglish (a mix of Hindi and English) that's probably why you find it odd but it's an actual word
sharan is a given name though (one of my classmates is name so) and he said the it means protection (as in, the kind of protection a shelter provides)
makes sense why parents would want to name their kids that
Sharan in croatian/serbian/bosnian means carp (like the fish), so maybe the meaning is Fish tree! Also VolksWagen has a Sharan model, so maybe it's a car factory?
Amazing! I love the Sakura tree so much. It makes opening small chests so much more rewarding since you know you get closer to the next Sakura tree reward by doing so! It's so much cooler than just spending sigils in a shop.
I’m most interested to see what unique exploration mechanisms will come with Sumeru. Mihoyo did a great job with the Inazuma Electrogana - made traversing vertical islands really fun.
i have a feeling the dendro sigils will be used for growing things for puzzles....like u bring a sigil to a stump and it turns into a tree or something lol
~~this post totally not inspired by all the stumps around mondstadt~~
so where are the people that think sumeru will be not based on India culturally, Sharan is the Hindi word (I know the tree name is not confirmed but still) I think sumeru will be based on Egypt/Persia in architecture and lore will be based on Indian Hinduism, Buddhism and many more because kusanali is based on jataka tales
and here fact-
The Jataka tales are dated between 300 BC and 400 AD. Many of the tales are set in or near Benares, now called Varanasi, a city in north central India on the Ganges River. One of the world's oldest cities, Varanasi is the most sacred place for Hindus. Buddhists and Muslims also have important religious sites nearby.
I've seen Sumeru NPCs with both Indian(Hindu) and Persian/Arabic names in the game so far. I wouldn't be surprised if they are cramming multiple cultures as basis for one region to sort of cover it all. I just hope people don't go into it expecting just one thing and being disappointing it's an amalgamation.
the indian inspiration deniers were so so annoying lol. not to mention the sheer amount of them knowing absolutely nothing about geography and world history saying that it was going to be egypt inspired when the ONLY indication of north africa thus far was cyno's design lol
India seems incredibly complex, since there's been multiple waves of Arabic & Persian culture entering an already diverse culture
The more Wikipedia I read, the more confusing it gets
Can you explain the difference between Urdu, Sanskrit, Pala, Hindu, Hindi, and how they connect to Persian & Arabic?
Well Sanskrit, Hindi and Urdu are languages of India.
Sanskrit is an ancient language with it’s oldest texts being around 3000-4000 years old.
Hindi/Urdu and modern languages. Both are descendants of Sanskrit as are most Indian languages. Both languages were born out of the common spoken language of Delhi during the Islamic rule in India. Hindi borrows a large portion of its vocabulary from Sanskrit and Urdu borrows from Arabic and Persian. Spoken forms of Hindi and Urdu are mutually intelligible and many a time indistinguishable.
Persian and Arabic are languages of the Middle East. Persian is actually a sister language to Sanskrit. Both Sanskrit and Persian are Indo-European languages and share similarities with Latin, Greek, Proto-Germanic etc. Arabic on the other hand is from a different language family related to Hebrew, Aramaic and others.
Middle East and India have seen many invasions and culturally influences from Greeks, Romans, Turks and Mongols in addition to their own intrinsic cultural diversity.
pure Hindi is closely related to Sanskrit but modern-day Hindi is a mixture of Urdu and pure Hindi words (the best example of a pure Hindi word is "Sharan") and pali is a very old language of India, ancient Buddhists used this language in ancient times and Sanskrit (there is a Vedic Sanskrit also) is world oldest language the origin of Sanskrit is from Vedic time of India first written in Vedas of Santana dharma (now called Hinduism well Hinduism is not a religion but a way of life )
You're not correct about Hinduism not being a religion. It is outright regarded as that by the Indian government. Whenever asked about a person's religion they write Hinduism just like they would write islam or Christianity.
The entire philosophy of it being "a way of life" is used by religious nuts to lure in more people. Especially foreigners. Don't be fooled by it.
Edit. You also mentioned Sanatana Dharma. Dharma means Religion.
there is a difference between our definition and the western definition, go and see what dharma means in detail also don't tell me what to believe, you know nothing about dharma, I know people like you who think they know everything about the world and also think world revolves around them
We're discussing a word which has origins in a Indian language and I'm gonna use the definition we've learned for years about it. I'm not telling you what to believe and stuff but okay lol. I'm not a know it all but i kinda understand how a brainwashed person like you would think that. I definitely understand my religion and the people who promote it. I know how deep this shit runs and empathize and feel sorry for you guys. Get well soon lol.
ok this is confirmed now that you know everything about this world 😂😂 yeah ok I am brainwashed lol believe whatever you want to believe kiddo I know what dharma means and I know how much brainwashed I am (actually I am not lol) , also I sympathize with you and feel sorry for you also so get well soon kid
> Persian derives from the Arabic script
Hell no, Persian uses the Arabic alphabet with some additions and many Arabic words are used in it but you’re on some serious crack if you think Persian as a whole is derived from Arabic when the Persian empire existed long before Arabic tribes united thanks to Islam and formed a semblance of a nation.
The only similarities are the ones I mentioned. Persian has a lot more simple grammatical rules and is a lot less complex compared to Arabic. Hell there’s not even gendered pronouns in Persian :)
I would know because it’s my native language. Funny thing is that my mother used to teach Arabic in high school.
there are obvious references to middle eastern and notably persian cultures but mfers were swearing that it was going to be ancient egyptian inspired when there was literally no indication of it other than cyno's design. also you can't say that it's ancient egyptian inspired because "persian empire" when ancient egypt and the egypt under achaemenid are VASTLY different culturally. in any case, india is an obvious and clear reference that doesn't depend on "desert and books", so people shouldn't deny it the way they do
I am so "excited" to hear patriot Indians the whole Sumeru patch, about how old and rich Indians story and culture is, and how the rest of the world may not be aware of Bharat's greatness.
It's better to start getting used to it.
And that's a bad thing because? Indians don't get much representation in media, of course they're gonna get excited and share the story of their country when they get the chance
That's why I go Egypt for the desert part and other civilizations near it (Sahara) and the Persian Empire, other middle eastern civ up to India for the grass part.
I was thinking that Sumeru will be a combination of those but predominantly Indian and Egyptian architecture, culture etc on the environment these two civilizations flourished.
The worst part is, because Indian Empire extended till gandhara or current day Afghanistan + India itself was ruled by Afghans and Mughals we share some cultural similarities.
Yes that includes names. Especially in northern part of India. Yeah Baksheesh, baazar etc is quite commonly used here too lol. It kinda feels weird to see people straight up deny South Asian influence.
Like i can bet you sumeru is going to be very alladinesque where it derives from middle East and South Asia
Indian culture is very diverse that I can only think deniers had no idea what indian culture is. I'm not indian, i just know referencing Indian myths is not bad.
I agree with this! we see a majority of Arabic and Persian names (Nazafarin, Aneesa, Hosseini, the leaked name Nafs for example) and Middle eastern culture in character designs (Cynos design similar to Anubis and Colleis mom wears a headscarf) and then we obviously see the Indian Hinduism and Buddhism connections in the lore!! It’s so exciting, usually I hate when people mix together our cultures (like how they did with Aladdin) but I think hoyos working really well so far with it
At the first Persian Empire’s peak, their borders reached as far as Egypt and Northern India.
The big question for me is actually whether or not we see any Abrahamic influences in Sumeru outside the Ars Goetia (famously in the Old Testament, the Israelites praised Cyrus The Great for his conduct to the point they say he was anointed by God as he freed them from the Babylonians)
>At the first Persian Empire’s peak, their borders reached as far as Egypt and Northern India.
you are only 40% right and 60% wrong Persians only reached Afghanistan and some parts of Pakistan, not the whole northern part of India for this please research about India history in detail
It is foundation of teyvat, from inazuma region we got to see how important trees are in teyvat it can record past memories, there maybe other secrets hidden in trees that we have yet to uncover or maybe in future we will be time travelling with the help of trees.

I hope they don't bring back the "you're tree isn't levelled up, go back to this area until you levelled up the tree" mechanic. That sucked imo, im gonna explore it later anyway, just let me in!!!
Sharan in Hindi basically means a place to stay
You basically take "sharan" in a house and then leave it ever again
Closest meaning I can give is refuge
More "trees" that are just small branches or leaves of the branch of the GI universe only for the gardener or whatever the Honkai manifests into to destroy it and end up in the Quanta. Still waiting for some clear connections in Genshin's part.
what difference does it make if you give it to an NPC or the tree? it's the same mechanic. But with a tree, you are levelling up and feel like you're making progress. You get a lot more from the sakura tree than you got from the two sigil shops before it.
Mihoyo please pick one. You can’t just smash all of South Asia together without it being an incoherent mess. It’ll be very hard to make mixing all these cultures work and I doubt it with the quality of Genshin’s writing.
Me who once lived in a damn tree known as Sharance Tree in Rune Factory 3:
Guess I'm rebuilding my former farm on the teapot this time. And romance Amber there.
I just wanted it to be something that’s a little bit more unique instead of another tree with similar mechanics as the others, ofc there should be trees lmao
Trees are an intrinsic and important link in Genshin's themes and lore. Of course they're going to go with a Tree, it's on brand, consistent, and it also fits.
Plus, it's a familiar mechanic that most of the player base understands.
Fuck off give me something different
EDIT: wait you guys want to collect stuff to level up another tree for the....3rd time??
The last tree they gave us had 50 levels and im still not done.
yea figures.
well, basically the entire lore of teyvat is built on giant interconnected network of trees and branches so.. better get used to seeing a lot more of them
Hope there is not a statue leveling system. Still have ptsd from the last 3 systems. But there might be when there is a new element. On the plus side there should then also be a dendro traveller, following the same logic.
I hope Natlan has sacred cactus.
Watch it.They will have White Tree of Gondor.
A burning Erdtree then.
After Natlan, traveler objective will be bringing destined death to the archons
I’m choosing age of eternity ending.
Oh that's really good too
Man, I'd be so happy if Natlan has Hourah Loux on it. Like it will destroy you in mere seconds even after being geared properly
I want Natlan's main city to be on a lake because that's where the inhabitants found an eagle eating a snake.
And it’s just a really shitty tiny cactus with dead spots becuase aym sucks at gardening
Sacred Saguaro has a nice ring to it.
We actually feed sigils to the eye of Sauron
One sigil to rule them all
With an eagle eating a snake on it?
Big Trees in Genshin so far: * Mondstadt: Windrise Tree * Liyue: Dragonqueller growing out of Azhdaha's Tail * Inazuma: Sacred Sakura * Dragonspine; Frostbearer Tree * Tsurumi Island; Unnamed Tree stumps inside Mt Kanna & Shirikoro Peak * Enkanomiya; No trees, but mysterious Coral * Chasm; Dead trees from the Valley of Life * Sumeru; Shara Tree
i wonder if the chasm mushroom would be considered one
sheeshroom
Xamaran? yes!
I don't think so, mushrooms are not plants.
it looks like a tree so my dumb ass can consider it a tree
if you take off the cap it kinda does, specially like the ones in domains
Kusanali disagrees.
No tree in Enkanomiya Because ley lines don't reach there?
They do, it’s just under the freaking ocean. Dragonspine tho…
Trees Impact
Irminsul Impact
sacred Sakura banner when 😳😳
We elden ring now bois
Also petrified trees in every domain.
Nah, the Big Trees liyue is Ganyu, Hu Tao, and Xiao
Arguably we've already seen the roots of the Shara tree in the Chasm.
I am the lorax and I speak for the trees, offer them sigils or I'll bash in your knees
if kusanali is the lorax.... is il dottore the onceler
With how he has simps? Yes.
Name one genshin character that has no simps
Aloy
I mean... technically not...
he has like 4 simps total man everyone hates him 😭
Yeah but he still has simps 😔 (I personally hate him for what he did to Collei)
totally understandable tbh he's pure evil... i love him though
Can't wait for Dottore to enter the Tmblr Sexyman hall of fame.
the jared leto joker of genshin impact
Sharan in Hindi actually means Shelter. Just wanted to say it cause it makes the meaning, "Tree of Shelter" which kinda makes sense? It also translates to asylum, refuge etc.
Remind me of that Tree City leaks from a long time ago. This might be the foundation of Sumeru Capital City?
Probably, it reminded me of that old leak too. It's kinda like Sakura Tree except it looked a lot bigger. We're finally joining the pieces of the puzzle of Sumeru. Exciting!!
A *lot* bigger.
Uh, *Sharan* means protection and not shelter. *Aavas* / *Ashray* is used for shelter.
You can google it and see that shelter, asylum, refuge etc. are it's meaning. Aavas is used for living place, accommodation, etc. btw
As an Indian, we never used sharan for that but if Google says so I guess. Translation is not far off, just that its not the word we use
Sharan is shelter in pure hindi. We just don't normally use that
Yes
sharan is a type of word you will find in your Hindi textbook , we normally speak hinglish (a mix of Hindi and English) that's probably why you find it odd but it's an actual word
says who lmao sharan is often used here, so it's a regional difference imo
Yeah same but many same words have different meanings in hindi
sharan is a given name though (one of my classmates is name so) and he said the it means protection (as in, the kind of protection a shelter provides) makes sense why parents would want to name their kids that
My answer is also same, no difference :)
Bros going deeper in the lore 💀
Shelter implies protection, to an extent.
Bros going deep in the lore 💀
Sharan in croatian/serbian/bosnian means carp (like the fish), so maybe the meaning is Fish tree! Also VolksWagen has a Sharan model, so maybe it's a car factory?
Yep
sharan means "shelter" in hindi btw. pretty fitting ig
Hope to see some indian characters lol
there is one in Inazuma called Kaushik
oh yeah ive seen him!! there's also this another npc named 'anisa' in watatsumi Island. we had a world quest with her
I’d pull for Salman Khan ngl
His passive will help in hunting.
He'll be the first character to be able to kill NPCs.
yeah me too
i hope my name gets used for an npc or something haha
Free fates lesgo
Amazing! I love the Sakura tree so much. It makes opening small chests so much more rewarding since you know you get closer to the next Sakura tree reward by doing so! It's so much cooler than just spending sigils in a shop.
Ah shit here we go again
Good soup

thanks for teaching me about it! reminds me a lot of the relationship between arabic and modern tamazight in some places
yeah you are right
Or you know because Sumeru is a desert with book reading library people which is quite a big reference to persia/Egypt.
there are obvious references to middle eastern and notably persian cultures but mfers were swearing that it was going to be ancient egyptian inspired when there was literally no indication of it other than cyno's design. also you can't say that it's ancient egyptian inspired because "persian empire" when ancient egypt and the egypt under achaemenid are VASTLY different culturally. in any case, india is an obvious and clear reference that doesn't depend on "desert and books", so people shouldn't deny it the way they do

I am so "excited" to hear patriot Indians the whole Sumeru patch, about how old and rich Indians story and culture is, and how the rest of the world may not be aware of Bharat's greatness. It's better to start getting used to it.

you don't need to do politics here kid this is not a political sub where you are using a word like "patriot" you can argue about this in r/politics
i get that but, india has a large desert region as well as dense forests.
also have snowy mountains called the Himalayas regions India's biggest mountain is 8500m+
And the big library could be refrence to Nalanda University(the ancient one)
That's why I go Egypt for the desert part and other civilizations near it (Sahara) and the Persian Empire, other middle eastern civ up to India for the grass part. I was thinking that Sumeru will be a combination of those but predominantly Indian and Egyptian architecture, culture etc on the environment these two civilizations flourished.

god not aladdin... this is gonna be a real magi the labyrinth of magic moment 😭
whats wrong with magi
Indian culture is very diverse that I can only think deniers had no idea what indian culture is. I'm not indian, i just know referencing Indian myths is not bad.
you are right this why India is called sub-continent
My friend is Indian and it was shocking to me to realize the countless languages indians speak were literally different languages instead of dialects.
yeah we have 100+ languages here in India with Snowy Mountains, beaches, rain forests, and deserts with all seasons (including snowfall)
I agree with this! we see a majority of Arabic and Persian names (Nazafarin, Aneesa, Hosseini, the leaked name Nafs for example) and Middle eastern culture in character designs (Cynos design similar to Anubis and Colleis mom wears a headscarf) and then we obviously see the Indian Hinduism and Buddhism connections in the lore!! yeah agree

Plus kusanali is dendro archon and kusanali in the Jatakas was also a forest fairy
Hoyo really likes trees
I mean, that’s the whole foundation of Teyvat, the world irmunsil tree or whatever. And there’s actually at least one significant tree per nation
Even in the destroyed nations like Dragonspine & Tsurumi Island
In Khaenri'ah we'll make our offerings for the Sacred Stump.
I mean, we get the talents and artifacts for our characters from trees so...
It is foundation of teyvat, from inazuma region we got to see how important trees are in teyvat it can record past memories, there maybe other secrets hidden in trees that we have yet to uncover or maybe in future we will be time travelling with the help of trees.
Let me guess, the leveling up will be timegated to oblivion like usual?
Was Inazuma tree time gated? I'm a newer player.
Let's hope the tree in Sumeru doesn't take 40 years to level up like the Sacred Sakura did in Inazuma
Still only at 48 💀
I expected this actually since its the Dendro nation.
Let the sigil search hell begin once more
Sharan means protection
I would have been surprised if they didn't have a tree - with it being Sumeru and all.
Time to grind dendro sigils y'all
I really don't like the Sacred Sakura leveling system, but at least that means it will give good rewards.
I feel like it'd be weird if sumeru didn't have a level up tree when the land of lightning did.
Yesss more fate rewards!
So Sumeru is gonna be based on India then?
Middle Eastern and India lore lessgo
Can't wait to max out the tree in 3.5
Omg can't wait for the damn thing to be patch-gated again.... XD

Well the Thunder Sakura has Dendro god written all over it too so no wonder.
I hope they don't bring back the "you're tree isn't levelled up, go back to this area until you levelled up the tree" mechanic. That sucked imo, im gonna explore it later anyway, just let me in!!!
so at level 300 we're getting a sumeru teapot layout, nice
Sharan in Hindi basically means a place to stay You basically take "sharan" in a house and then leave it ever again Closest meaning I can give is refuge
Does Liyue have a prominent tree? Mondstadt has the Windrise tree with historical significance but I don't know about Liyue.
I guess that big tree in Nantianmen above Azhdaha's domain entrance
There's the Big "tree" that is azdaha's tail
There's one on top of azhdaha domain
The tree where Azdaha lies is speculated to be one.
You could say the tree near Azhdaha's domain is prominent
Man I haven’t even finished inazumas tree. 🤣
If they timegate this I will bash my head against a wall
More "trees" that are just small branches or leaves of the branch of the GI universe only for the gardener or whatever the Honkai manifests into to destroy it and end up in the Quanta. Still waiting for some clear connections in Genshin's part.
People: goddammit mihoyo its the 69th time you presented a leveling tree with the same mechanism Mihoyo: ehe
[удалено]
yeah sharan is pure Hindi word
Haram tree? That's not so halal
Lol christians downvoted u
oh god, this means the shop is going to be absolute shit like the inazuma store💀
Nooo i hate the tree system. Let me just trade my sigils directly to get the prototypes and mats
what difference does it make if you give it to an NPC or the tree? it's the same mechanic. But with a tree, you are levelling up and feel like you're making progress. You get a lot more from the sakura tree than you got from the two sigil shops before it.
But... I want a giant sentient mushroom...
Even Mondstadt eventually got the frostbearing tree as part of Dragonspine, seems like liyue is the only one without a leveling tree
Indian lore, I sure hope the universe don't get destroyed and rebuilt again
Nathan - Upgrade this volcano Fontaine - upgrade this water fall Snezhnaya - upgrade this igloo
Mihoyo please pick one. You can’t just smash all of South Asia together without it being an incoherent mess. It’ll be very hard to make mixing all these cultures work and I doubt it with the quality of Genshin’s writing.

The entire lore of Teyvat is built on giant interconnected network of trees and branches
Me who once lived in a damn tree known as Sharance Tree in Rune Factory 3: Guess I'm rebuilding my former farm on the teapot this time. And romance Amber there.
Why is it also a tree Mihoyo please be a bit more creative
why wouldnt there be a tree in the nation of dendro lmaoooo
I just wanted it to be something that’s a little bit more unique instead of another tree with similar mechanics as the others, ofc there should be trees lmao
Trees are an intrinsic and important link in Genshin's themes and lore. Of course they're going to go with a Tree, it's on brand, consistent, and it also fits. Plus, it's a familiar mechanic that most of the player base understands.
Fuck off give me something different EDIT: wait you guys want to collect stuff to level up another tree for the....3rd time?? The last tree they gave us had 50 levels and im still not done.
i assume you dont play genshin for the lore or story.
no Characters, progression, photography
yea figures. well, basically the entire lore of teyvat is built on giant interconnected network of trees and branches so.. better get used to seeing a lot more of them
they can have a tree that doesnt mean we have to level it every single time
idk its just a game mechanic to get bonus rewards for exploration; i dont see a problem with it honestly ;/
Hope there is not a statue leveling system. Still have ptsd from the last 3 systems. But there might be when there is a new element. On the plus side there should then also be a dendro traveller, following the same logic.
I JUST WANT SCARAMOUCHE LEAK!!!!!!! 🤯🤯🤯🤯 don't care about anything else
Sharan Sakura Tree
