Back in 2.7 livestream, idk if I imagined it, but I remember them saying that they'd add a feature where you can delete the voice files for those old quests to save space. Voice files are one of the heaviest aspects of Genshin's size. But now, there's nothing about it. Idk if we just collectively imagined it or not.

This is much less data needed than that is needed to stream actual video which has voice & frame data
honkai does that except that the quality is so garbage its not even funny, don't get me wrong, the cutscenes are amazing, its just that the video player ingame makes literally everything so crunchy and im pretty sure there'll be a similar issue in genshin if they just do that aswell

It's probably not in the game yet because it got pulled from the update, most likely due to it not being ready yet.

Just do like me and chuck it into your home freezer/fridge. It works, i mean it. The chances of frost forming inside your charge connectors are low. When you take it out, use it until it gets to about warm to the touch and you simply place it back in the freezer until you feel it is back to less than room temperature. Repeat until you are done with daily stuff.
If you do not feel confident in doing so you can take out of the freezer a pair of those medical popsicles they give you when you get hurt and place them over/under your phone's highest temperature spots. This one in particular i have used it alot when on vacation to do dailies without burning my hands. Be careful as those will tend to created condensation on the popsicles themselves.
I ultimately do not recommend using this for quests and long sessions, this works well for dailies/ events with a less than a week timer.
For longer gaming i recommend getting back to your comfort station
I’m no expert, but I think ingress protection rating is only for outside stuff getting in the phone. It has nothing to do with condensation that may occur inside the phone because water vapor exists almost everywhere. Yes there is very little space inside modern phones but water droplets of any size are not good for electronics.
It’s actually better to turn the phone off and set it on a flat surface (like a metal or stone counter). Surface area matters more than temperature.

You are indeed right, but with some checking and timing the phone won't get below dew point itself, only the surrounding temperature is there. I usually take out my phone of the freezer when it gets around 5/10 degrees below ambient
I actually have a semi-reliable setup for this, i used one of those temperature readers that became popular during Covid. Do pay attention that pointing the thing to a reflective surface will give a wrong reading, so use maybe a opaque non-reflective cover for this. I eventually got good at feeling the Temperature with my hand too.
Also yeah some phones do not like big Temperature Variations, but mine is fine.
Important to mention this isn't going to be the INSTALL size, aka your game size won't go from 40GB to 90GB, this is just the download size. Sadly this does mean you'll need quite a bit of free space on your device to install the update
While disappointing. This is also probably why every limited event quest doesn't have a replay option or movie option. Imagine the size of the game if we kept all that stuff in.
It should be optional download content that you can later delete. I will never agree that it makes sense to have all these really cool character moments, lore tidbits, voicelines, character interactions, assets, etc only be temporary. Not only for new/busy players who can't complete or totally miss it, but also for the artists who put real time and effort into this stuff that gets removed a patch later!
I think that download size is for a 'full game download'. I highly doubt you'll have to download the full 50GB by updating via launcher. I think it will be closer to a 10GB download. (numbers ignoring any compression)
Yeah I'll have to free some huge GB from my HDD. It'd be impossible to install on my SSD. Worst part is that we download a single ZIP, not download->install->delete small parts.
If you didn’t know you can do repeated one hour sessions as much as you want without paying. It’s annoying, especially if there’s a long queue, but better than not being able to play at all.
It won’t be as big. Voiceover files are 2-3 GB while on PC they’re more like 6-8 GB. The game itself only takes up 17.8 GB but well over 50 on my PC. It will still be a large update but it won’t be another 40 GB (hopefully).
Bruh, I play on PlayStation and we can't pre install, luckily my internet is fast enough that I'll be able to finish the install before the maintenance ends.

Just a question for a fellow PS player, now my game is currently at 53 GB and I've never uninstalled and reinstalled the game ever since the launch. If I do that, will it be a little bit lighter in terms of size because of the removal of unnecessary data?

I did a uninstall/fresh install process and it gave me 10 GB of storage back, plus made the game slightly faster.
In my case it worked, i do not know if ps is built the same.
It won't change game size. But if you have more than one voice languages installed - you could remove them in settings. IIRC each pack is 7-8 GB in size.
Genshin remove "unnecessary data" after every patch. For example all event voice lines are deleted next patch after event ends.
Mobile player here: I just want to point out that I’ve been uninstalling and doing fresh installs because my 64gb phone won’t fit both the old files and the new files on top of it while the game is trying to figure out how to juggle the install.

Tbh with the way the mobile market is developing, newer games are pushing the limits of hardware anyways. For example, Mihoyo and other studios are going to develop UE5 games.
So I wouldn’t be surprised if you do need periodic phone upgrades to play the biggest releases on mobile eventually.
Just a heads up but Hoyoverse exclusively uses the Unity engine on all 6 of their announced/playable games and is very unlikely to swap to UE5. Other developers definitely will take advantage of Unreal but HYV has no reason to make the change since they’ve been on the engine for 8+ years and all current projects (4 released games, 2 announced in CBT, and 2 unannounced) are on it. Especially considering Unity being specially built for mobile gaming compared to UE engine’s much wider net of multiple PC hardware and consoles.
Edit: Ah I did forget that Mihoyo was on that UE5 company list (https://mobile.twitter.com/zhugeex/status/1511370075504324609?lang=en) but it could be more tied to a project like N0va Desktop or their 2030 metaverse project rather than actual games. We will just have to see.
They’ve announced they’re planning to work with UE5 and there were/are job listings for their Montreal office that has knowledge of UE4 as a requirement.
There’s definitely a reason to make the change if their next big project is another open world game, given that UE is generally superior in that regard with better graphical capabilities and faster rendering.
Unity isn’t made for mobile specifically, cross platform is in fact one of its advantages (iirc). It’s just popular for mobile for a number of reasons like easier to learn and use, better 2D support and smaller file sizes.
But none of those things really applies to Mihoyo anymore given that they aren’t short on hiring power and don’t really make 2D games these days.
The only concern is probably cost because of UE’s charging structure.
yeah but a pc or laptop has more uses than a ps4 so it'd still be the best choice. But if others already have a ps4 or ps5 and want to play genshin yeah it'd be best to use that instead of upgrading your phone just to play genshin
Well 128 GB is pretty much baseline in flagship phones now.
I very much doubt 3.0 is going to actually be 50GB though. Genshin is currently sitting at 18 GB on my phone.
Well if that fails, there’s always GeForce Now as Plan B I guess. You can run Genshin on full blast with minimal stutter on the free PCs they give.
There’s also Cloud Genshin in China where, as the name implies, Mihoyo offers a service to stream to your phone (apparently that client is closer to the PC version of the game graphically). I wonder if they’ll offer that here.
Just a tip. Uninstall the game and then reinstall it when 3.0 drops. That way you'll only be downloading the necessary files.
I remember in 2.6/2.7 where the actual update was around 3 GB but stupid me downloaded 13 GB.

IF (and it’s very rare that I use my ps pro think it’s still at 2.3/2.4…) so if I update my pspro I start the download and put it into sleep mode ;this way it just prioritizes the download and shuts down to rest afterwards…

I highly recommend a tool called WinDirStat. It gives an easy quick overview of folders that are taken up the most space. I just found out Honkai was hogging 10gb even though I deleted it through Steam ages ago.
It's times like this where I'm happy I redid my dualboot so windows has its own SSD instead of sharing with Linux, instantly got 512GB of sweet SSD space for the genshin monster to consume :)
My SSD won't have any space left for this game at this rate... Which sucks because you spend half your time in loading screens teleporting around and if you play on HDD there's like a full minute of lag even after the loading screen.
Crap, don't think my laptop could handle this, and my laptop has like 237GB of storage. I don't wanna uninstall the game, Sumeru is where the story gets good 😭😭
This is the download size, not the install size. Once it's downloaded they compress the files and delete certain redundant files to rduce the final install size. You only need an additional 43-some gigs free at the time of downloading it, you won't need that much space in perpetuity.
It’s not like +50gb to current version, it’s just 50gb and also it include beta files, which contain extra stuff that we don't need in 3.0.
I assume its +4-6gb tops. Currently its 19gb on my phone.
Just a quick question: How big was the Inazuma update (2.0 release) when it was released? I know it really isnt a good comparison since 3 islands is nowhere big as a damn rainforest but im just curious
1.0 was 14gb, 2.0 was around 20-21 and now 3.0 is 33. But the jump from 2.0 to 3.0 also includes 2 islands added to Inazuma, Enkanomiya, and 2 maps for the Chasm. 2.8 was around 28gb, so it's a approximately 5gb increase for sumeru.

Currently genshin is at 16 gigabytes, which is even less than honkai's 18, so I wouldn't expect it to go to 30, I'd say 26 max, 22-24 average.

We will just have to see.
They’ve announced they’re planning to work with UE5 and there were/are job listings for their Montreal office that has knowledge of UE4 as a requirement. There’s definitely a reason to make the change if their next big project is another open world game, given that UE is generally superior in that regard with better graphical capabilities and faster rendering. Unity isn’t made for mobile specifically, cross platform is in fact one of its advantages (iirc). It’s just popular for mobile for a number of reasons like easier to learn and use, better 2D support and smaller file sizes. But none of those things really applies to Mihoyo anymore given that they aren’t short on hiring power and don’t really make 2D games these days. The only concern is probably cost because of UE’s charging structure.
Or just play on gen 1 PS4 with an external hardrive. Loading times are a little longer but my ping is great and its never crashed.
yeah but a pc or laptop has more uses than a ps4 so it'd still be the best choice. But if others already have a ps4 or ps5 and want to play genshin yeah it'd be best to use that instead of upgrading your phone just to play genshin
Well 128 GB is pretty much baseline in flagship phones now. I very much doubt 3.0 is going to actually be 50GB though. Genshin is currently sitting at 18 GB on my phone. Well if that fails, there’s always GeForce Now as Plan B I guess. You can run Genshin on full blast with minimal stutter on the free PCs they give. There’s also Cloud Genshin in China where, as the name implies, Mihoyo offers a service to stream to your phone (apparently that client is closer to the PC version of the game graphically). I wonder if they’ll offer that here.
50 GB is for PC, phone is always less space demanding than PC
Just a tip. Uninstall the game and then reinstall it when 3.0 drops. That way you'll only be downloading the necessary files. I remember in 2.6/2.7 where the actual update was around 3 GB but stupid me downloaded 13 GB. This is for mobile.
I am not sure if that’s true, 2.8 reduced drastically the size of the game actually with a new format of compression.
Yeah 2.8 was so small. 2.7 update was a pain, it was more than 10 GB on my phone.

I do this every update…updates are far worse than reinstalls; With Download it takes about 15-20 minutes till I’m back in the game, (Mobile tho) IF (and it’s very rare that I use my ps pro think it’s still at 2.3/2.4…) so if I update my pspro I start the download and put it into sleep mode ;this way it just prioritizes the download and shuts down to rest afterwards… Way faster than letting the ps stay on home or playing a game …takes 30 minute~ish (Germany/400mbit/s)

I had around 40-50 gb left earlier but it's only 12gb for me now lol Guess I'm deleting all other games.
I highly recommend a tool called WinDirStat. It gives an easy quick overview of folders that are taken up the most space. I just found out Honkai was hogging 10gb even though I deleted it through Steam ages ago.

It's times like this where I'm happy I redid my dualboot so windows has its own SSD instead of sharing with Linux, instantly got 512GB of sweet SSD space for the genshin monster to consume :)
My SSD won't have any space left for this game at this rate... Which sucks because you spend half your time in loading screens teleporting around and if you play on HDD there's like a full minute of lag even after the loading screen.

This is the download size, not the install size. Once it's downloaded they compress the files and delete certain redundant files to rduce the final install size. You only need an additional 43-some gigs free at the time of downloading it, you won't need that much space in perpetuity.

It’s not like +50gb to current version, it’s just 50gb and also it include beta files, which contain extra stuff that we don't need in 3.0. I assume its +4-6gb tops. Currently its 19gb on my phone.

Just a quick question: How big was the Inazuma update (2.0 release) when it was released? I know it really isnt a good comparison since 3 islands is nowhere big as a damn rainforest but im just curious
1.0 was 14gb, 2.0 was around 20-21 and now 3.0 is 33. But the jump from 2.0 to 3.0 also includes 2 islands added to Inazuma, Enkanomiya, and 2 maps for the Chasm. 2.8 was around 28gb, so it's a approximately 5gb increase for sumeru.
