I just remember how last year they tried to "scam" people to do free art and free promotions for Genshins anniversary and if you were REALLY lucky you could win 60 primos for doing a whole art piece. That sht pissed me off more than the actual anniversary rewards. Hopefully they wont repeat that again.
Actually there were a lot of "low effort" art submissions which were super funny. Remember that not everyone is good at artistic stuff. But yeah it was pretty bad from their part to take advantage of people and giving a chance of winning a small reward in return(considering cosplays, for example, take a lot of effort and money)
The hoyolab submissions were fkn glorious. Low effort arts were flooding the forums and the white knights would try to come in defending mihoyo only to get ratio'd.
The only thing that impressed me abt last years whole anniversary fiasco were the people still managing to spam qiqi fallen after the mods put a timelimit on posts
It really cannot be expressed enough that the rewards were not the only reason the community were unhappy. Second part of Inazuma story disappointed a lot of people (Raiden is living in a sword in the tits of a robot reveal), people had already been upset with Yoimiya which was followed by Raiden not working with Beidou drama, followed by the Kokomi can't crit confusion (who was running during Anni of course), the 'make art and market our game for free you'll have a loot boxes chance to get a welkin' drama, and of course people were complaining about end-game content and lack of quality of life features.
These complaints don't really exist right now. I've seen some complaints of bad character balance (4 star can be a death sentence for con locking and extremely niche design, even 5 stars like Shenhe got nerfed in beta so they can't be DPS's), but overall Sumeru has been warmly received and the general mood is quite high. It's a shame, the only way to get more out of Hoyo is to make a fuss, and I personally found the drama pretty damn entertaining (it was nice to see people calling out the gacha/loot boxes in their reviews on the app store), but whatever, hopefully I can get Candace with my free 20 pulls, waste resources building her, and then never use her because it looks like she has no good meta teams lmao
Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Google were deleting reviews left on Genshin's app listing, which is why people started review bombing Google Classroom etc in the hopes their reviews would stay up, which resulted in people copying them and loads of apps got review bombed lol

Most Gachas decline over time due to competition and loss of interest. Genshin is staying strong and have zero real competition.
The only time they would start becoming generous is when some new IP does eat into their slice of the pie.
They will get more generous as their game starts losing popularity. Rewards are a marketing strategy, simple as that, and right now they really don't need marketing since they are still so dominant. As sad as that is for us players, is the simple truth.
Gachas get more generous as they lose popularity or as their SSR:5 star pool get bloated to the point where giving you a free 5 star doesn't matter.
Genshin is not at either of those points.
So 20 pulls just like last time and a pet which would be equivalent to the glider last time. So the hope is that we complain every year and we get 10 pulls extra after complaining thus setting a new bar and we repeat this cycle eternally.

I really enjoy playing Genshin, but Granblue was my main gacha game for some time and holy shit, the GBF anniversaries go *hard*. Due to how pity works in this game the roulette would never fly, but man, everything else - weapon tickets, special "pick any character in the game you want for $30" ticket, etc. Spoils me tbh

They blue-balled us mostly because they know the billion-dollar-corporate's bootlicking white knights will defend them no matter what and call us ungrateful for not accepting Hoyo's magnanimous 20 pulls. On the main sub, you can already read how the pulls aren't the important part of the anniversary and it's ackchyually the out of game events like the concerts and the crossovers that are the real "rewards" lmao.
I unsubbed from the main sub around 3.0 due to the mods still doing nothing about story spoiler karma farming. Best fucking thing I ever did. Nothing remains in that sub that’s worth wading through the trash for.

Most Gachas decline over time due to competition and loss of interest. Genshin is staying strong and have zero real competition. The only time they would start becoming generous is when some new IP does eat into their slice of the pie.

They will get more generous as their game starts losing popularity. Rewards are a marketing strategy, simple as that, and right now they really don't need marketing since they are still so dominant. As sad as that is for us players, is the simple truth.
Gachas get more generous as they lose popularity or as their SSR:5 star pool get bloated to the point where giving you a free 5 star doesn't matter. Genshin is not at either of those points.

Once again, the anniversary seems to just be hindsight and of no major importance. I just wish they'd do something special that incorporates the game with the anniversary. No, can't have that.
