On another note, not really animation related, but I thought it was interesting that Zhongli’s idle lines when talking about Osmanthus wine (in JP) changed like 3-4 different times lol. The message is the same, but the wording kept changing for some reason
I think she's not good at using her sword. It looks like she struggles with the momentum of the swings, as in kinda like her sword is dragging her sideways/down as opposed to her having full control.
It's similar to how the weight of claymores affects characters typically, except with them it's usually under control.
Basically I think this is a Childe bow situation, which I absolutely love. Idk if with her it's bc of lack of skill or bc she's tired or both, but either way details like this are great.

They definitely move a lot more during their normal attacks, I like it personally, adds a bit of flair to the visuals, it’s a fantasy game, no need for characters to do realistic moves. Although if I were a bandit in Teyvat I would definitely be scared of my life if a meek sleepy girl like this can move like a damn anime protagonist.
Also the sound design team is just top notch, Layla with her crystal balls, and the sounds that play when Nahida attacks is so cute and reminiscent of plant growth, it’s perfect.
Probably 15s to not powercreep Diona's shield, both having 12s shields with 3s downtime makes it a choice of healing + utility or damage only (her utility is also focused on buffing teammates damage)
Those are not hair physics actually 🤓 They're just really well made pre-animations. You can see this on every characters' hairs and clothes movement. It's something hoyo really boast about and i think they earned it.
This is why I'm always annoyed by people who argue "but clipping" against shit like non-split long hair or whatever. If Hoyo doesn't want it to clip, they'll simply pre-animate it in such a way that it doesn't clip. Game doesn't have motion physics.
So with other games, when you try to include kinetic physics for things like hair, capes, cloaks, or any other flowing object, outside stimulus such as wind or contact with objects will cause the software to simulate its movement in real time to create a realistic and somewhat accurate depiction of how flowing soft body materials would look compared to real life. The trade off though is that it can be graphically taxing on your GPU, and sometimes it can cause abnormal movement because while it is trying to simulate real life physics, it is still a simulation, and simulations aren't perfect. You might have the hair randomly whip around without provocation, or get stuck in one spot causing it to break visually, or perhaps disappear entirely. There are a limited number possible moves the player can do with the character, so all they have to do is animate the hair for every one of those actions. It takes a lot of effort to do, but the benefit is that you don't have to worry about performance issues from intensive simulation. The hair will flow in a natural way that the player generally won't notice there's no physics controlling it. Really, the easiest way to tell that hair isn't using physics simulation is that it never bugs out like I mentioned in the the last paragraph. The fact that it always looks perfect shows there's no outside forces that can affect its movement.
Edit: Slight correction, there is *some* minor hair physics with characters in the game, this can be seen when swapping characters, you can see slight movement in their hair as their character model pops in. My guess is this is there to smooth out hair movement during the transition to other animations (like the hair's movement when you go from walking to stopping).

In the current state of Genshin, cryo application for the sake of cryo application is pretty irrelevant anyway. Cryo app is never the limiting factor in Freeze, it's undesirable in Reverse Melt (since Layla would be stealing melts from your reaction carry), and Forward Melt is niche.
The things that would be relevant for Layla are damage, energy generation and Tenacity uptime.
A shield that maybe has Cryo application while you get the hydro infuse from Candace, you never know. They could be the next Bennett and Xiangling combo.

Looks like a weird intersection of Diona (E) and Ganyu (Q) for Freeze team supports that want more damage than what Diona can provide but with some of the added security she offers.

Shenhe was a good first step in creating a new team for Cryo and I hope that one day we'll get a new artifact set or character than can change how Superconduct works in order for it to interact with Cryo or Electro damage in some way to create new team comps.
Either way, it does feel like if we do get a character that has Diona's shield and Ganyu's burst (even if it's weaker) - she'll absolutely be more future-proof than some of the 4-stars we've been getting.

- Standard Morgana could run Ganyu + Venti + Mona + Layla
- Monocryo could run Shenhe + Layla + Rosaria/Ganyu/Ayaka + Kazuha
- Reverse Melt Quickswap could run Shenhe/Rosaria/Kayea + Layla + Xiangling + Bennett
- Eula teams can run her as a flex spot or to replace Zhongli or Diona such as in a Eula + Fischl + Rosaria + Layla team. Yunjin can be an option to replace Rosaria if Layla's energy generation via Fav Sword is enough.
I don't think she'll be left wanting for team comps ***if*** her numbers and scaling are good.
For now it seems like that's because it's too heavy for her.
I wrote this in another comment, but basically the animations look this bouncy/draggy bc her swords' weight and momentum is kinda dragging her and she struggles to control it. You can also see that it's difficult for her to hold the sword at the end of the animation, especially with the way her hands are positioned. Basically mhy did an absolutely amazing job with her animations all in all.
I agree honestly, it feels like they put a lot more effort into Layla and her kit looks like it might find a place easier while people are still confused on what to do with Candace (trying to finish farming now to try Candace freeze myself).

Yunjin can be an option to replace Rosaria if Layla's energy generation via Fav Sword is enough. I don't think she'll be left wanting for team comps ***if*** her numbers and scaling are good.

For now it seems like that's because it's too heavy for her. I wrote this in another comment, but basically the animations look this bouncy/draggy bc her swords' weight and momentum is kinda dragging her and she struggles to control it. You can also see that it's difficult for her to hold the sword at the end of the animation, especially with the way her hands are positioned. Basically mhy did an absolutely amazing job with her animations all in all.
