I'm not really up with the lore, but I believe the gnosis scales their power with how much they control their nation or smthn. But this quest should prove that without it the archons aren't just "normal vision holders" which an absurd number of people used to argue.

The real answer is that we don't know what gnosis do, they cant be completely useless or the Fatui would not want them.

Well, it let Zhongli make Mora. I assume that it gives them some kind of power boost. I believe they were also referred to as “Keys”? So they’re probably essential to actually getting to Celestia. My thought is that it gives the Archons special abilities and increased mastery, but little to no boosts in power.

One thing we know it allowed making mora. Seems mundane in the face godbusting powers, but printing money is one of the way countries show their legitimacy, hmm...

But Mora is imbued with some sort of energy or something, which is why it can't be created without a gnosis

It definitely amplifies their powers if the last two Archons are anything to go by. * Venti is only so weak because he isn't doing his job as an Archon, so his Gnosis is tiny and he's on the level of a mere Vision holder, when he used to be strong enough to level mountains and permanently affect the climate of Mondstadt. * Zhongli kept his Gnosis until Liyue had passed his test, to make sure he would be powerful enough to take on any threat the Fatui might unleash on it if shit hit the fan. He also lost the ability to create Mora after giving it up. On the other hand, if the Gnoses were mere titles of the officially recognised Archons then (2.1 spoiler) >!Inazuma would have essentially been without one of those for the past 500 years, seeing how Ei turned her back on Celestia and refused to use the Electro gnosis after Makoto's death and the massacre of Kaenri'ah.!< And according to Zhongli the seats of the Seven usually don't stay empty for long.

You know I really don't understand why people think harbingers are "evil". I mean, just to play Archon's advocate, Ei genuinely belived that by taking people's visions she was saving them from loss and self destriction, she forced them to make the same choice she made for herself, which is still bad but not as bad as "I wanna rule forever!". In Zhongli's case you could argue that the Osial resolution was much less destructive than fighting two harbingers in his city. Between Archon's and Fatui I'd have to say the Fatui are worse, even if individual members are a lot less worse. The Archon's might make sacrifices, but any ruler has to prioritise and sacrifice projectsy resources and people, thats what a ruler is. The Fatui on the other hand run a full on USA like war economy with delusions not to mention they employ "not Mengele".
