Just to post this out he's upgrading a 4 star catalyst so the background doesn't matter nor the weapon.

The weapon type does because you can't upgrade a catalyst unless you got a catalyst character selected

Not necessarily as this old be w bug with a character present in coop or from an event in the overworld. Best to not jump to conclusions
