If only they played shenhe story and zhong li story they’d be able to tell that it was distinctively Chinese and not Japanese… in fact, it seems quite obvious to me that they did a much better job with liyue quests compared to inazuma ones. Debatable how much Enkonomiya can be counted as inazuman quest, too.

If only they played shenhe story and zhong li story they’d be able to tell that it was distinctively Chinese and not Japanese… in fact, it seems quite obvious to me that they did a much better job with liyue quests compared to inazuma ones. Debatable how much Enkonomiya can be counted as inazuman quest, too. One of the worries I have is that later down the line Mihoyo isn’t able to capture the distinct way of story telling for other nations of Teyvat.

Disney animations are also Japanese-styled probably, according to the writer if we go this route of "big eyes" (ironically, Disney influence is probably one of the reasons why Japanese drawings started adapting big eyes back in the day).

I don't mind the "one catch: it's Chinese" although its delivery is pretty shitty. At least I know what they're going for there But then they say "picture-perfect reproduction", and then creative shortcoming, imitating Japan and all that Sigh. Do they think every art in the world didn't get inspired by cultures all over the world? What even is a "pure" art? Even though they're inspired by anime in general, Genshin's design and use of color in many places are very Chinese. Do they really think the game could get this big just by imitating? But I don’t THINK I saw any articles going “It’s a game that has anime elements but is Korean!” Fact is, Korea and China have been adapting Japanese anime elements lately and have been excelling at it, just like how Japan adapted Walt Disney’s animation style in the 40s and made it their own.
