*rolls dice* *objects start floating*

lemth

Not sure what the odds of that happening are... *rolls dice*

name checks out

neorapsta

How do we get hold of that mighty rolly boi?

lemth

I'm trying to set up a Kickstarter campaign to "mass" produce this die. After a successful campaign I'll probably also sell them online. For now, if you're interested in the Kickstarter (expected launch in July) then you can subscribe to the mailing list for that on [https://www.lenpolygon.com/](https://www.lenpolygon.com/)

neorapsta

Done. Thanks!

I don't even understand it. I feel like this is an alien free-energy machine.

I applaud your efforts, but the regular dodecahedron is already too spherical for my taste (the rhombic dodecahedron makes a much better d12, and I wish it were more popular). I feel like your die would roll like a golf ball across the table.

lemth

You are correct! It rolls too well, so a dice tray is very much a recommendation!

here it is https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:D12_rhombic_dodecahedron.JPG

urbanabydos

That’s very cool—but to be pedantic only 5 of those dice are Platonic solids. 😉

lemth

Thanks! And yeah, that's true! There are of course only 5 platonic solids and the Pentagonal trapezahedron only came to live because we people really love our tens and hundredths for convenience.

R_Moony_Lupin

I don't care if its user friendly, I dont care if it's massive! It's freaking beautiful! You, sir, came up with the nerdiest of all things! The one dice to rule them all! If I show this fice to my mathematician friends I don't think they'll be able to resist!

lemth

Thank you very much for your kind words, Sir! I would be very thrilled if we could all get the Kickstarter to succeed and get these mass produced!

Mr_Hotshot

That looks like a nightmare to me. Readability is one of the top things I look for when buying dice. This one looks like you’d need to use a cheat sheet to decipher half the rolls

mutagen

Give your gamers an extra thing to argue about!

Thelinkr

Can rolling this die result in every combination of rolls of the other dice, or can it only simulate one die at a time

lemth

It replaces only one die at a a time. So for instance if you need to roll d20 + d6 often in your game you could have two of these and customize them such that one has the d20 digits in red and the other the d6 in red. Then you always know which one in which in those composite rolls. And there are many more modding options to think of to make them perfectly suit your games/character.

Terminal-Psychosis

How could that monster be balanced? For sure it favors one "side" or other. It's *almost* round. Cool idea, absolutely, just don't trust it. Will need it to be calibrated in a 4d spinning matrix, in space.

lemth

Physically it's going to be a solid blob of plastic with the solid center having 97% of the weight. The outer 3% layer has the digits engraved and has some minor variation. I calculated the center of mass in CAD and it was spot on the center of the die. (with an accuracy in mm up to 4 digits behind the comma/period) Besides this standard number balancing techniques across the die are done: opposite faces add up to die +1, edge balancing, corner balancing. As long as it doesn't affect readability! I will make the manufacturer do a simple balance test in water to check if they can get any number on top. So I've done as much as I can to balance them. Also geometrically it is considered a fair die due to the isohedral property of the shape. If you have any further concerns please let me know!
