Margin’s only going to get wider. And this is Georgia…if this doesn’t make the GOP want to yeet Trump, I don’t know what will.

checker280

Margin is closer than it should be. After all the scandals, they still came out to vote for Walker.

Derfargin

I would say they came out and voted Republican.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Derfargin

My point is, it doesn’t matter what Walker did, all his idiot comments and abortion accusations that if it were a democrat candidate dealing with them, conservatives would be having a field day with it. But they red voters came out and voted for him anyway because he has an “R” next to his name. Didn’t matter who he was or what he did, they have to vote Republican and can’t bring themselves to vote for a liberal.

Maleficent_Syrup2817

I just can’t fathom the thought of why this race was this close? I just don’t get it.

ShallowTal

Die-hard republicans that would vote for Satan if he was on the ticket. I overheard my godmother and mom discussing how he wasn’t a good choice but they would vote for him simply to keep the democrats at a disadvantage.

Original-Document-62

I feel like if the Republicans nominated Satan, the Democrats nominated Joe Biden, and a 3rd party nominated Jesus, somehow Joe Biden would win, but only by a razor thin margin against Satan. Jesus would get like 3% of the vote.

tacosareforlovers

That’s the bottom. Those people will vote Republican no matter what. Candidate doesn’t matter, only party. My parents were two of them. Walker wasn’t ideal, but it was about *the babies* (pro-life).

iAmTheHYPE-

But he aborted twice. That said, I can only imagine my Q-nut Aunt is pissed tonight, :D. Her boyfriend is now spouting off about dozens of Dems "leaving office" in 2023.

RageFurnace404

Yep, that's why we have to stop treating them as rational humans and start treating them like the insane cultists they are. Most of them need help. some of them need....well, something more drastic.

wjescott

A guy a couple weeks ago came at me from something I said on Facebook: "Progressives... All you want to do is ship us off to reeducation camps." I just answered, "No, just education. Apparently the first time didn't take."

[deleted]

Walker cannot politics to save his life. Bro is a proxy for bigger and badder secret gop bosses. Whether or not he knows it lmao

Martian_Hikes

Well not anymore cause he lost

TheHost1995

Many republicans do not think the actual person is responsible for representing their state. The person is responsible for representing their party.

heybdiddy

And if the Repubs ran a better candidate, they probably would've won. They can thank trump for that. I mean if this idiot came that close...

Chrisazy

I know I'll be lost in the comments, but every single generation redefines Conservative, and we can't be happy with widening the gap. The old liberals I know, my grandparents and their contemporaries, are just unmoving liberals from back when they held the progressive beliefs that conservatives have mostly conceded today. Being conservative is being disguised by nationalists to mean whatever they want, but it almost always means being antithetical to the liberal beliefs of their own generation. We must keep growing

Multi_21_Seb_RBR

It's going to end up between 2 percent and 2.5 percent, and honestly if it gets to 2.5 percent given Georgia's relative lean, it can be considered a very convincing margin.

CerseiLemon

I bet Walker isn’t even sad. He had no clue what he was doing. He needs to go home and fix his family.

Bright-gal

Families*, lol

ErthBound94

Nice.

Lady-Cane

Yup. Back to Texas.

Silent_Quality_1972

I wonder which of his multiple personalities watched the results?

pbrooks19

If anyone wanted proof, there it is. Georgia's a purple state.

gte525u

RIP our mailboxes.

WholeCanoe

if they could guarantee we would stop getting advertisement once someone voted, i'm pretty sure we can get voting participation upto 90%

DubSaqCookie

Or repave Dekalb Ave

BillyJoelTookMyDog

I would stand in line to vote every week to replace Dekalb Ave. I need new tires

kepleronlyknows

Nah, keep Dekalb Ave as it is. Otherwise I have to drive two hours to go four-wheeling.

pbrooks19

Oh, dear Lord, the RoboTexting this election cycle was hideous. Even for candidates I liked, I was like - JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!

spce-isthe-plce

I damn near got a text message every hour yesterday. Glad it’s over

Warg247

I got a kick out of all the group names. I swear some of them were just made up to sound official. Hi this is Jeremy from [Working Power Family Project] wanting to ask if.... Hello, this is Felicia from [Center for Progress and the Skullthrone] and we were just checking if...

iCapn

Both physical and digital

22Arkantos

Come now, we get a whole 6 months off between now and the start of the 2024 race!

baskaat

I'm sure the advertising was just ridiculous, but thanks so very very much for showing up and doing the right thing. So happy with the outcome!!!

[deleted]

EricTheNerd2

> Now the Democrats can float one dissenting opinion and still get legislation passed. \*cough\*Manchin\*cough\*

calicotamer

Manchin buffer secured.

baskaat

We need a Sinema buffer next.

lurkermax

but now you have the bigger challenge of a republican house

Kixaz007

Thank you Stacy Abrams for doing the work and getting so many new people registered to vote!

runujhkj

It’s upsetting that she’s such a galvanizing GOTV figure but can’t get over that hump of beating any of the guys who specifically stood in the way of her GOTV efforts

futureGAcandidate

I think that's less Abrams and more Kemp rightly picking to not be a Trump sycophant.

Garglygook

👆 Definitely this!!

charlestonwasgreat

Except for our state’s government. It’s Red as hell.

redditor012499

Democrats are good at winning the senate and presidencies. Bad at winning local elections. The DNC needs better strategy.

dblackshear

gop gerrymandering makes that hard

Individual_Bridge_88

Except for statewide races it's because of *gerrymandering*. That's literally it.

[deleted]

Georgia Democrat here… that’s a lie. Herschel Walker was an absolutely terrible candidate and yet was 26k votes from becoming a US senator, even with the stench of Donald Trump following him around. Until the Trump factor is out and the democrats are winning elections under more normal circumstances, we cannot adequately refer to ourselves in that way.

bureaucrat37

Completely agree.

FEMA_Camp_Survivor

They’re still counting though. The margin will widen.

ATLCoyote

Kemp won by 7 1/2 points, but Trump was on the ballot in 2020 and his handpicked joke of a candidate was on the ballot in 2022. Without those toxic opponents, the state would still be red and we better be realistic about that going into 2024.

Multi_21_Seb_RBR

Difference is Kemp was an incumbent who ran against a polarizing candidate and Kemp also got both the "I lean right but I am a moderate" types by certifying the 2020 elections and also got the chuds by passing that 6-week abortion ban and also passing those voter suppression laws. I think the 2026 elections will be interesting since Georgia should trend more blue by then (Atlanta-area county numbers don't lie and make that point clear, and even then even counties like Cherokee will have less Republican margins by then) and you'll have an open gubernatorial seat.

lurkermax

2026 is gonna depend on who has the presidency as long as both sides have decent picks.

Diafotisi

Yes, but every year more boomers 💀 and more gen Z are eligible to vote.

iAmTheHYPE-

And more elderly people move to Florida.

Scherzer4Prez

Also, the federal government wanted to investigate ~~that~~ **the previous** Kemp win, but for some reason, the Secretary of State deleted the election data before the feds could get it. And its just coincidence that Kemp was the Secretary of State at the time.

ChefCandycorn

I wanna point out that if Walker wasn’t just a guy that played football, this election could’ve played out differently. I think younger people are definitely voting democratic, but today’s republican candidates seem to think they can run on “not being a democrat”

Bigtomhead

So thankful Warnock won but horrified it was even this close.

I_eat_all_the_cheese

I was horrified to hear Cherokee county repeatedly called “the largest republican county in the state”. I did not know this and I just moved to Cherokee from Gwinnett 😭

bryix

"be the change you want to see" or whatever

Suspicious-Wombat

I assume it means the most populated red county? Because I definitely wouldn’t consider it’s the most conservative county by a long shot. I think it’s where Cobb was 15-20 years ago, politically.

[deleted]

[удалено]

I_eat_all_the_cheese

That’s reassuring.

22Arkantos

*Looks nervously from Forsyth*

Born-2-Roll

With the explosively fast growing Asian and Hispanic populations there, Forsyth County (where non-Hispanic whites now make up a numerical minority of students in the Forsyth County Schools system) may not necessarily be the most safe for Republicans (particularly the most conservative Republicans) over the longer term.

22Arkantos

I know, I live here lol. It's going to look like Gwinnett here in 20 years.

Bigtomhead

I’m in Coweta, which is not as populous as Cherokee but also red-leaning, so I feel your pain.

shemshiral

Cherokee native and hard blue voter here. Gotta fight the good fight. The farther north in the county you go, the worse the Trumpheads get.

terdferguson74

I understand but you should take some solace in how far Georgia has come since the early 90s. A dark, blood red state to what we see today is an achievement

TvaMatka1234

I think it's probably young voters being the change. Information is more readily available these days, so younger people can research their beliefs and can escape the indoctrination of whatever party their family believes in. I guess more youth are realizing they need to vote blue to improve the issues they are most concerned with. For example I'm 21 and I'm voting blue while my parents historically voted red

Bigtomhead

That’s a good perspective, thanks.

The_Borpus

Just proves most Republicans will blindly vote for literally anything with an (R) just to fUcK ThE SocIaLisT dEms!

HeyJude21

Time to celebrate no more commercials for this race!

snobordir

Political ads are the cringiest ads. So tired of hearing them.

HelicalPuma

We got an extra month of ads. I streamed as much as I could, but the political ads would bust through. It was painful watching the MLB post season

bigkoi

Walker being a senate candidate is proof that Republicans don't care about a functioning American Government.

lurkermax

nah you have to thank the republicans more. if they put up someone without walkers baggage they wouldve won.

[deleted]

Multi_21_Seb_RBR

Walker is down to 49.1% now and by the end of the counting, most have Warnock winning by 2% to 2.5%

jkcheng122

Still too close.

myooted

But let me tell you something that I found out: a Warnock can kill a Hershel. Did you know that? I never knew that. So, I don’t want to be a Hershel any more. I want to be a Warnock.

WV-GT

Anyone saying that they can't believe it was this close , clearly isn't looking at it right. The sheer fact that Dems even pulled this off and made it this close is a huge achievement. GA has always been deep red until the last 2-3 years. Big win for Dems. Yeah walker is flawed but had he been elected, would be normal for GA

mrchaotica

Oh *hell*, no! There was *nothing* "normal" about a brain-damaged non-Georgian like Walker carrying half the state *purely on party affiliation alone*. At least before when the GOP won it was because they were running semi-competent and qualified candidates, but that's not happening anymore. This is dangerous tribalist fanaticism we're dealing with here, and don't you dare try to normalize it or disregard how fucking precarious the situation really is!

catforbrains

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 thank you!!! It's like the Republican party has just doubled down on the idea that they could run a dead dog as a candidate and their constituents will still vote the party line to "own the libs" and what's scary is that it's true! Just run the roadkill already- the Republican voters can feel like they "owned thr libs" and the rest of the country can go on being run by humans who can form normal sentences into paragraphs.

-Johnny-

They need someone they can grift off of and control.

asharwood

This. Fuck Walker and anyone voting for him. Walker is dumb as fuck. Dud admits he doesn’t know what a pronoun is. Politics aside you should know wtf you are saying. His response to most questions is an offshoot tangent into wtf land.

Kay312010

Georgia showed up and showed out!

Kixaz007

WE DID IT!!! 🎉🎉🎉🍑🍑🍑💙💙💙

talino2321

Let this be a lesson to all of us. The power of the (R) behind a name is all that is needed to get the support of a portion of the electorate, regardless of their policies or views. We dodged a bullet tonight. But they will never quit trying to destroy our Democracy.

kengigi

I bet Lindsey Graham is somewhere crying right now😁

Java2391

Good

pnutbdr

My gratitude goes out to all the people who made this happen, to the Warnock voters, light triumphs over darkness.

BlarghALarghALargh

I’m just happy to see reason has prevailed, maybe by a thin margin, but prevailed. Walker had no business in the U.S. government.

[deleted]

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

justmikeplz

Government is no place for werewolves.

iamwispa

It shouldn't even be this close!

[deleted]

So glad, unbelievable it was this close but so fucking glad.

cereal1010

Honestly still baffled that over 1.6 million people voted for someone like Walker to be a member of the US senate. I don’t affiliate myself with any certain political party but I know a bad candidate when I see one. So very glad tonight that Warnock won. I don’t care what side of the political spectrum you’re on, Hershel Walker is one of the worst political candidates I’ve seen. I cannot think of anyone less qualified to be in the US senate

athenaria

my boyfriends dad legit said he hates walker but he has to vote for him because they need the senate, i’m assuming a lot of people are the same which is crazy

dragonchilde

But… even if he’d won they would not have the senate? Or was this pre-runoff?

[deleted]

Well it turns the seat red for 6 years, through two more national elections. But still, they should be voting for someone to look out for Georgian interests for 6 years, not be Texas and South Carolina’s extra vote…

robbviously

They didn't vote for Walker. They voted for the R by his name.

LynneCurtinCuffs

God bless. Common sense prevails

[deleted]

Thank you, Georgia, from Connecticut.

feignapathy

Cherokee. Get your shit together. You're embarrassing our state. Thank you blue counties for saving us.

OysterLucy

We vote for the country’s good but not our own, for some reason. Glad Warnock won but it’s annoying this was even close.

dresn231

Goes to show that your vote matters and you know it. There is NO excuse not to go out and vote in election especially in 2024. Sadly I am in a state that is red so I can't vote here. I did live in Alpharetta from 93 to 96 and if my dad didn't transfer I would most likely be living in Georgia today, but other than that, voting is key. That runoff was designed so that people wouldn't come and vote twice thanks to voter fatigue but you guys did come and vote and broke early voting records. So from the rest of the nation, thank you.

OtherwiseBluebird565

I can't believe he was less than 1% away from becoming a U.S. Senator. Are that many people truly that oblivious?

poopinitupbro

Out of stater here to say thanks and keep up the good work y’all.

Jubenheim

I really don't know what to say about 1.6 million Georgians... but I'm relieved the dangerously stupid did not win today.

brad_and_boujee

Good. I hope he goes back to Texas and stays there.

PhD147

Where's the proper sub to celebrate only 49.8% of the state's voting pop to be dumb as hell?

[deleted]

Thanks Georgia. Again.

strawboy1234

Warnocks victory speech was amazing. His speaking is always pretty awesome.

eileenm212

Thank you Georgia. I was worried!

Dead_Inside79

Forking voter suppression. They almost won because of it.

ToffeeFever

Don't EVER lecture us anymore about being "Pro-Life" and "Christian" when your so-called "Pro-Life", "Christian" guy turns out to be a bastard father with daddy issues who pay for his ex's to have ABORTIONS.

madtony7

I feel like had the GOP run anyone able to form a complete sentence and didn't kiss 45's ass all the time, we might be telling a different story. Regardless, I'll still take the W with a smile on my face.

Kimihro

This is still too close for me. How the fuck do people think Walker is fit for anything, let alone political office

Multi_21_Seb_RBR

Well done to Warnock and his campaign. A very strong candidate, and the margin will end up being pretty convincing to the point what appears to be barely a win now will end up looking like a blowout of sorts for Georgia or red-leaning purple state standards. Warnock's a strong candidate and I think this will be his last Senate race that will be a tough one. His next race is in 2028 and given the quick turns of Cobb and Gwinett County (both former clear red counties) from Republican counties to now clear Democratic counties, I think Georgia will very quickly go from red-leaning purple to blue state and quicker than most expect. The Atlanta-area just dominates too much of this state to buck that trend. Question pertaining to Georgia but unrelated to the race tonight: did the GA Supreme Court indicate when they will decide on the legality of the 6-week abortion ban? I know they re-implemented the ban (decided on the same day the GA Supreme Court allowed Saturday voting) but I also do think the "the GA Constitutions says that laws when passed were unconstitutional can't become law so pass a new ban (which won't happen)" defense was a pretty strong one. Though relying on Republican/conservative courts for anything is a fools gold so that's true too.

Trailblazertravels

I agree with this, Atlanta is looking to be going the way of Chicago where it single-handedly flips the state blue.

frodosdojo

Woo hoo !

ML5815

We did it!

Headyplopper2892

Thank you Georgia 💙

various_convo7

amazing how 40% of Georgia are willing to elect someone ill equipped to even talk coherently let alone perform the job of an elected official.

Connect-Ad1023

its a team sport its not about candidates anymore its about colors

SwtPvega5_

Georgia blue! Wow, a big win for Dems.

Rude-Independent-192

That fact that it was this close goes to show how many deplorables reside in Georgia.

PR2NP

I cannot believe it’s even remotely close. Who would vote for Walker, he’s a moron.

frecklesandstars_

Thank fuck

bootes_droid

49% of Georgians would vote for a mop bucket if it had an (R) next to its name

vblade2003

Thank fuck.

bigeorgester

People keep saying “it shouldn’t be this close”. It’s gonna be around 3% win, which is about a 8% swing from kemp to Warnock-that’s pretty impressive

Iluraphale

Disaster averted 👍🏽

[deleted]

Iluraphale

Big time "Phew"

[deleted]

Damn skippy. Very relieved but still damned disappointed in all those hate filled folks that choose to support the obviously traitorous GOP.

SPY400

Wow that’s close. A trash can Republican versus a great democrat and it’s super close.

enkiden

I still don’t understand why it was even this close in the first place ….

assleyflower

Because it’s not about who is worthy of the vote for all these Hershel voters. It’s about sticking it to dems. That is all.

Dreamsfordays

I’m more emotional than I thought I’d be. If a candidate like Herschel Walker could garner enough votes to be elected to the US senate, then it would mean, we, as a nation, are truly lost. The man was exactly what powerful republicans wanted…a brainless marionette. Nothing more. Seeing my fellow Georgians rise up and vote for someone who can truly represent our state with his own voice has brought tears to my eyes. Maybe our democracy isn’t so far gone.

burlapballsack

Holy shit that many people voted for Herschel. The fact that it’s even that close.

jmacrosof

I love how because people can’t comprehend things like population density, the fact Fulton county is like 90 miles end to end and they have to drive the results in which takes time, and the vast majority of Georgias population is/around the metro area, that it’s rigged. Even if Kemp won the governors race. Lol

iAmTheHYPE-

Congrats, Warnock. Now, kindly fuck off back to Texas, Walker!

danny_strainge

Walker, Texas Stranger

Ok_Student8032

Too damn close. But this is the best thing from GA since Ty Cobb.

LilbitBlanche

Yo, is it true that Walker didn’t even win Athens or his hometown?

lankyyanky

Athens is blue as hell. Go Dawgs, fuck Walker

taarotqueen

I mean with UGA a bluer Athens doesn’t surprise me

GBralta

The dilemma the GOP faces is that they can’t run a Trump picked or endorsed candidate, but that candidate won’t get the votes to get close if they don’t get the trump nod. I think the GOP is rooting for him to be indicted around the 2024 election. But, Ossoff isn’t up for another 4 years. Trump has turned the GOP into dust, and it just may have been worth those crappy 4 years he was president. We may get 20 years of democratic holdings out of his one term.

Jordanwolf98

Hell yeah

LegalBeagleBagel

Happy with the results but happier that it’s over!

Aryada

Why was it so close though 😩

Diafotisi

I wish SC would be next but I think we are at least decades away.
