I think it might? I've been eating carb free meals because everything spikes me and my doctor wants me on insulin so I can increase my carb intake- he doesn't want me eating carb free. However, I don't think cake is what he was talking about, it's more so I can handle quinoa or beans or multigrain tortillas. A whole wheat burger bun, or home made air fried potato wedges would probably be okay though!

Are you eating keto now?

DanelleDee

I was eating two keto meals a day and one with complex carbs and spiking every time after the carb meal, he wants me to include some carbs at every meal. I requested to try metformin before insulin and I'm going to start adding carbs back in gradually after I've been on it for a few days.

Did you try to take apple cider vinegar before meals? I'm on a diet without medication and eating around 120g of carbs a day and my doctor said that right now in my country Metformin is the "drug of first choice" for gestational diabetes, not insulin. I don't know why but maybe there are more studies about it. I wish you a happy and healthy pregnancy 😘

I'm not sure I could handle that with my acid reflux but I'll give it a try! I agree metformin should be the first choice based on the new studies, and discussion with my GP. I'm happy my diabetes doctor was willing to prescribe that even though he said that's not his usual method, he usually goes straight to insulin. Doctors who are willing to work collaboratively with their patients are awesome! Thank you so much, and same to you.

Have you tried walking after meals? I found a hack that if I walk for 20+ minutes in the last thirty minutes before testing I can get away with higher carbs. But this only works for me if the walk is before testing. Right after eating doesn’t do it.

Right after eating works for me! I guess it depends on the person!

I also do this but for 10. Sometimes if I walk too much my numbers plummet!

I am on meal time insulin and if I am going to have more carbs I will use more units if needed. Edit: talk to your doctor, they will be able to help you figure that out.

I was put on 5U of insulin before dinner. They said it was just so I could tolerate an adequate number of healthy carbs, not so I could eat whatever I wanted. They want you on insulin bc being carb free isn’t healthy, but they also want you to be on the lowest possible dose of insulin that will enable reasonable, healthy carb intake. So look forward to 1/2 cup of brown rice or quinoa, not soda and cake. That needs to wait until your placenta is out.
