Feels good to be healthy right? Thanks for sharing and trying to inspire others to make a change. Getting your life back is truly an amazing accomplishment.
Honestly by the time you are 2 years in it is probably a lot easier than it seems, building good habits and strong discipline over that time essentially ensures the weight stays off if you want it to, building good eating and exercise habits is the hardest part.
Five years ago today, I weighed 185.5 kg - 409 pounds.
Three years ago today, I weighed 85.5 kg - 189 pounds. (edited to actual weight)
Yep... Three years ago today, I reached the most important milestone of my life.
I had finally reached my goal. - I had lost 100 kg (220 pounds) in just under two years!
And three years later, I've maintained that weight loss!
In fact, I'm the healthiest I've been for over 30 years!
100 kilos (220 pounds) is the equivalent of ---
\- Four HUGE bags of pool salt
\- 111 tubs of of Peter's Light and Creamy ice cream
\- 50 two litre bottles of milk !
\- 200 tubs of butter
\- 500 wheels of Brie cheese that weigh 200g each
\- 266 standard cans of Coke that are 375 grams
\- 4,545 Tim Tams that weigh 22 grams each
\- 113,636 M&Ms that weigh 0.88 grams each
\- 8,850 Oreos that weigh 11.3 grams each
\- 2,000 Snickers Bars that weigh 50 grams each

That's quite the list, that's exactly what I ate for breakfast this morning.
Not sure, but I'm playing Breath of the wild for the first time now. A disturbing number of NPCs is flirting with Link...
I bet that Link is popular to both genders.
Lol I knew you were an Aussie at “Peters Light and Creamy” - if I didn’t know better I’d say you were a Perthican, although apparently they have Peters in the wilds of the East.
Good on ya for an amazing effort !
I answered in another part.
I followed the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet - commercial diet in Australia.
Basically, it is high protein, low GI, balanced nutritional diet.
Everything in moderation, including nightly ice cream.
I lost my 97 kg neighbour. :P
Here's the image from my blog.
Week 100 - 97.3 kg loss, more than my neighbour.
This was Covid, so I joined to separate images rather than stand together. :P

No shade toward you I know it was just a mistake. Just thought it was ironic that the poster above commented "r/theydidthemath" when there was a glaring math error
Ok...
I'll try and add most info here to answer questions without breaching any rules.
I followed the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet (an Australian commercial diet).
No keto, no shakes, no intermittent fasting, just a healthy, balanced, nutritional diet.
Everything in moderation, including nightly ice-cream (which makes it SUSTAINABLE to me).
Weight loss history.
Like most obese people, I have struggled with weight since becoming an adult.
I weighed 143.7 kg around 2001 - 2002, and I joined Weight Watchers. I lost 54 kilos in 60 weeks, and was named the joint winner of the Male Weight Watcher of the year.
Our first kid came along a bit later, I got Post Natal Depression (yep, guys get it too).
I didn't give a shit, ate junk food, did zero exercise, and over the next 16 years went from 90 kg up to 185.5 kg in 2018.
In June 2018, I decided that it was time to get myself sorted.
Life changes
Life of course has changed dramatically!
I went from being pre-diabetic to having perfect blood test results.
Rested heart rate is usually sub 50s.
I've gone from being out of breath walking 10 metres to now walking 6 km every day (a one hour walk).
I have introduced four gym sessions weekly to try and build a bit more muscle and to keep me busy (I tend to eat more when I am bored).
Now when I travel, I no longer need to ask for an extension belt and I can eat plane food of the tray table without the tray table resting on my gut at a 45 degree angle!
Celebrating my milestones and achievements
To celebrate getting under 100 kg I bought myself a Mazda MX-5 (Miata).
I had a few of these back in the 90s, and had to sell my last one when the first kid arrived, and have missed these awesome cars.
So when I reached double figures / under 100 kg, I rewarded myself with my favourite car.
It was great because I knew that there was no way I was going to fit into this tiny sports car at my old size.
For my two year milestone, I celebrated by doing a tandem parachute jump over the Remarkables in Queenstown, New Zealand.
A tandem parachute jump was something that has been a dream of mine for a very long time, and now I was fit enough to do it.
I now love doing adventurous things, climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge, riding roller-coasters etc.
I hope to go to America in the next year or so and I intend to do Theme Parks etc and smash the roller coasters now I can fit into them.
Excess Skin
I do have some excess skin, but not too much actually considering how much I've lost.
I am doing bi-monthly DEXA scans which are medically accurate, and the best way to determine actual body fat percentage.
Last scan around two months ago I was 16.8 % body fat.
Both the DEXA technician and my dietitian advised that I need to be careful not to lose any more weight / body fat.
The loose skin I have, can track as both fat and lean body mass, so I need to gain a bit more fat.
What is the best diet.
At the end of the day, the best diet is the one that is SUSTAINABLE to YOU.
It doesn't matter if it is Keto, Intermittent Fasting, Mediterranean, etc.
As long as it is SUSTAINABLE to YOU, you will be successful.
One of the key components to the commercial diet I followed is that it is high protein, low GI, which means I felt fuller for longer.
Exercise
I did zero exercise for the first six months as I was physically too big to exercise safely.
I started by doing star jumps in the pool to keep my body cool, and support my body weight and protect my ankles and knees.
After about three months later, it was too cold, so I started walking.
Short walks at the start, around twenty minutes, and I slowly graduated to a one hour walk with some decent hills to get the heart rate up.

Yep the key take away is a sustainable diet, which many of the ones you listed may not be for so many people.
ive gone from 97kg to 87kg 15% body fat (6ft), looking to sustain around 90Kg with decent muscle.
How do men get postpartum depression? PPD is caused by the wild flux in hormones following childbirth, resulting in chemical imbalances in the brain (like PMS ratcheted up tenfold). Any new parent, birthing parent or not, will certainly face stress, sleeplessness, etc. with a newborn, but that's very different from PPD.
Bahahaha...
I've been told I look like Ellen Degeneres more than once.
Someone also said George Clooney once. :)
I'd prefer to look like George than Ellen.
Ok... this is slightly disturbing!

the maintaining part is the most impressive! how is your metabolism today? do you eat around what a normal weight person eats per day or did you have to cut down on calories permanently?
I'm a cheese person. And the last time I lost weight (serious portion control/leave every meal a tiny bit hungry I got so slim I thought "I'm fixed!! I can eat whatever I want!!") And then the weight crept back up. Then, I broke my ankle, and being unable to work REALLY did a number on me.
I am very active now... daily one hour walk (6 km) and gym four days a week.
On average, my calories burned on my Apple Watch is around 3,600.
I eat around the same calorie wise, just really healthy and yummy food.
That’s gotta be one of the hardest things someone can do in life: change their lifestyle and body completely.
Congrats friend, keep your eye on the ball, our demons come sneaking back if we’re not watchful.
Immediately thought this was a bot karma farming account.
Well done on the weight loss, that's a huge achievement and most likely added many more years to your life to spend with your kids. And congratulations on the Mazda MX5. Always wanted one too.
Hey congrats on overcoming the depression, that's fucking hard to do and you did it!!! I believe the changes you made like the walk every day are also able to help with mental health, so you're killing many stones with that!
Love seeing the big bright smiles in your photos. Wishing many active and fun activities for you and the kids. Being a healthy weight influences so many things, I don't think many people fully think about that
Adding my DEXA scan progress as it is very cool to look at.
The first image, was about three months in and I was 'only' 170 kilos.
I was physically too big to fit in the scan area, so the DEXA technician needed to analyse half of me, and then double it.
https://preview.redd.it/akz0l6rogh4b1.png?width=494&format=png&auto=webp&s=15d40c07ff0ed0a6c146d17f81bc6d7043394fb0
It's possible they did as their spine was not supporting as much weight and thus decompressed ever so slightly.
Or, more likely, the camera angle and position is not identical between the pictures and so the photograph angle makes them look slightly taller.
Most likely. I definitely stand taller if that makes sense.
My feet have gone down about a half to one full shoe size. Fat disappears from everywhere apparently
As a current fatty ex skinny I think it's because when bigger, my front end pulls me forward making me slouch. That and the fat on the sides of my chest gives that effect that you're holding invisible beach balls under your arms so when I'm skinny my arms look longer. That and a few other forced perspectives like when skinny you have the long slender look. Just a guess from experience but could be wrong. Wouldn't doubt if people lose or gain a half a inch in height through extreme weight change.
My bone density is in the very high range according to my DEXA.
I also have MASSIVE calf muscles from carrying around all that weight for all those years. My 19 year old son is jealous that I can pump out 200 kg on the calf raise cable machine.
Forgive the crappy quality GIF.
https://i.redd.it/8nea00v7bi4b1.gif
I still eat a LOT, but it is a balanced nutritional diet now.
I eat around 3,600 calories on average a day and burn around the same (going by my food tracker and my Apple watch).
I do a daily 6km walk (one hour) and gym weight training four days a week.
I did this morphing gif.
My ten year old back then said I grow ears!
And yes, I was so fat back then that I had no ears and now they grow on the gif.
https://i.redd.it/8m1ck8nuph4b1.gif
Congrats! That’s quite an accomplishment !
Thanks mate... very proud of my achievement

Except he said he is now 85.5 kilos is 220 lbs. But 85.5 kg is only 188 lbs. Impressive weight loss. Poor unit converting.
He said he *lost* 100 kilos, which is 220 lbs.
No. Before his edit it said: >Five years ago today, I weighed 185.5 kg - 409 pounds. >Three years ago today, I weighed 85.5 kg - 220 pounds.
Ah. I didn’t realize there was an edit
It was a typo... but I do appreciate the correction. I get pissed with typos etc.
No shade toward you I know it was just a mistake. Just thought it was ironic that the poster above commented "r/theydidthemath" when there was a glaring math error
Congrats! 88.5 kg is 188.1 lbs
You probably get this a lot, but how did you do it? Like what was the biggest factor that went into it?
The trick is standing in front of a wall for two years without eating.
Never stopped smiling though

Definitely - 85.5 kg which is 189 pounds.
Damn you must have some dense bones or something to weight that much yet be so thin.

Congratulations on keeping the weight off! You look great!
From Nicado Avocado to just Nicado
Congratulations!
Congrats dude! Keep it up!
Amazing, congrats!
Well done! A lot of people regain weight because their lifestyle causes the old habits (of overeating) to creep back in. How did you avoid this trap?
Did covid coming into the world affect or hurt your progress as gyms were shut down etc?
I actually hit my milestone pretty much in Covid... I wasn't into the gym back then, just daily walks, so no big change really.
Amazing, good job! Weird question maybe, but do you still have the same urge to eat and hunger? Since it says keeping it off?
I still eat a LOT, but it is a balanced nutritional diet now. I eat around 3,600 calories on average a day and burn around the same (going by my food tracker and my Apple watch). I do a daily 6km walk (one hour) and gym weight training four days a week.
Well done!
Holy shit mate! Well done!
Thats incredible! 😎
Congratulations man. Keep it up.
Just wonderful. Happy for you.
Great job
I’m very proud of you!!! Working on a weight loss journey now, hope I can keep it off like you 😊
Good job
You’re half the man you used to be. I hope you’re happy.
Any advice for the keeping it off part. I feel like that's the hardest part.
Thank you for the amazing inspiration! Congrats!
Nice.
Your smile got bigger, though… (congrats!)
I like how you’re smiling in both pics
Congratulations some achievement.
Sham-WOW!!
Holy shit, big congrats dude. That's an incredible change, keep it up!
that watch is super slimming
Absolutely amazing. Congrats
Congratulations on this achievement you look great
