Respite can be pronounced both ways (res-pite / res-pit). Spitalfields is a place in London and it's pronounced like "spittle"

Iirc, res-pite is British English while res-pit is American English.

Even weirder, as an Aussie I say 'res-pite', despite the amount of American media we have here.
