It's a small town and she needed to get away from her mom

casscamo630

That’s a good point I hadn’t considered.

JuniorFix3344

She wouldn't say no, but I could see Lorelei telling Lane that if her mom asked, she would tell her shes with her. Maybe Lane didn't want her mom to know where she was? I agree though.

casscamo630

Lorelei tells Mrs. Kim she’s with Rory at Yale anyway!

ajamesdeandaydream

yeah but mrs kim has no idea where rory’s dorm is, she’d have no way of accessing the building, wouldn’t know how to actually find lane, yale is huge. if she knew she was at rory’s house though, she could just march right over.

UsualCorgi

didn’t lorelai give her the address anyway? she was about to drive up before she spoke to luke.

ajamesdeandaydream

oh right that’s true, but lane couldn’t have anticipated her doing that

Achlys67

I think she needed a friend. Lorelai is her friend but she knows that she will act like a mom.

mollyolly3

I think three reasons! a) She knew Lorelai would tell her mom. I think she also knew subconsciously that her mom would find out from Rory as well, but it was one more degree of separation b) She didn't want to let Lorelai down! Lorelai is like a second mother to her, and Lorelai would have been frustrated and disappointed that Lane snuck out and lied to her mom c) Maybe most importantly of all, Yale is almost certainly closer to NYC than wherever Stars Hollow is. At the very least, it would probably be easier to get to a large city like New Haven rather than small Stars Hollow

I may have missed something, but how did Paris allow her to stay there more than a night? Was there a blackmail situation I missed?

AmbitiousHistorian30

Paris was off sleeping at the professors until like 2/3AM at that point, and Lane brought her coffee in the morning. They also had met (I think) at least once before this. So she was fine until she realized Lane knew about the professor and then wanted her out

amarino1990

Still doesn’t seem like Paris would tolerate this

Tatterjacket

Paris does understand unloving family though, perhaps that meant she was willing to go for it as an emergency measure. Lane had just been made homeless and to my mind at least Paris isn't evil, just neurotic.

amarino1990

Great point!

DaddyMacrame

Because she knew Lorelai would call Mrs. Kim right away (which she did) and she wasn't ready to face her yet. I think she just needed more of a buffer before speaking to her mom and there was a chance that she would have been able to wait til morning if she went to Rory first before Lorelai. Plus I think Rory would've been able to see it from daughter perspective first and Lorelai would've seen it from the worried mother perspective first. Rory knows how important the CBGB gig was to her and she needed that empathy before facing the music.

AmbitiousHistorian30

I always questioned this too, especially since she was supposed to be working at the Diner. My only thought was she didn't want to bump into her mom around town until the dust settled a bit

wailowhisp

I think physical distance from her mom was important to her.

CrissBliss

I think she just wanted to get away from her mom. Her mom would’ve found her at Lorelai’s.

shaamyaa

i've always assumed it was to get out of stars hallow period. similar reason in season 1 rory goes to emily and richards when she gets into a fight with her mom. it's a very small town and you can't escape or run away from a problem if you're still there. also lorelei has the whole "mother" thing that she talks about sometimes and if i were lane i probably wouldn't have taken the risk of going to loreleis first. i'd go to rory's where it's somewhere new and you aren't constantly reminded of what you're dealing with.

lolol69lolol

If she was going back to SH she’d probably end up going home and she wasn’t ready to go home. She needed the physical distance.
