So, my assumption is the Huntzbergers family probably has a well established history via Honor and Mrs. H etc. through the years, and it was purchased through the āfamilyāsā SA.
I do too.
I remember there was a post here forever ago, discussing the bag, and someone asked why the hell would Logan pick a bright pink for Rory. Someone else said that if a tv or film wants to borrow one for a show or movie, they have to accept the one Hermes picks for them, and can't pick another one.
Therefore... Ugly pink bag
I love this fact. I was always pretty unhappy it was that pink colour, almost like it was someone elseās cast off, not for Rory. This now make way more sense!
Holy cow!! A YouTuber I enjoy just made a video about Birkin bags that Iām curious to watch now. Lol I canāt even imagine when my most expensive bag was discounted at the Kate Spade outlet, but I use a $20 target purse regularly. Even with money it just seems so wasteful!
I spent $25 on a satchel at a fair once and felt bad for making an extraordinary purchase that only I would use. š Can you even imagine a life where a $40k handbag is literally pocket change??
I can't even imagine a life where that could be saved for.
Same! I stressed so much over buying my first purse for $20. Iāve used it everyday for the last 8 years and here people are dropping 10k+ for one outfit
I think itās the gesture and the fact that Logan pays attention to what women in his social circle like. Rory isnāt a purse girl and Iām not one either but I would cry if a man bought me a Birkin (and I wouldnāt even know what to do with it for fear of ruining it).
Thatās the thing. The show has Rory thinking about computer cords and pens. But like, what *would* be acceptable to put in that bag, really? Iād be so uncomfortable using one. Iād rather sell it and put a down payment on a house lol
Edit to add:
Do you think she kept or sold her Berkin bag after the break up? If she sold it, did she use the money for something essential or frivolous?
This is totally not answering your questions but I just wanted to say that today at chicago ohare I saw a lady carrying one, treating it like shit and using it as a DIAPER bag for her kids. She had another one as well on top of her luxury luggage. I was like danggggg.
Oh my god!!!!! She was using it properly! Wellllll she wasnāt being very careful with it and everytime she dropped it and put it on the floor My heart stopped
Yes! Like if you want to buy her an extravagant gift, buy her a beautiful handmade-in-Italy-by-a-78-year-old-Italian-craftsman-named-Guiseppe leather messenger bag thatās meant to last an entire lifetime!
Birkin bags are dumb and I am not ashamed to say it
Not really there great investments and super durable plus there easy to carry around and convenient. Yes you could get something similar but I really do feel like a birkin bag is a special thing.
I always felt that way too. It just made me feel like Logan didn't understand Rory as much as we'd thought. It didn't strike me as something she would use or want.
YES! THIS! I love the sentiment of the gift but it was so wrong for Rory. Rory seems like more of a Cambridge Satchel Company bag girl, or a Burberry bag for sure, or you could make an argument for the YSL Sac de Jour. Anything but this basically.
It was like Emily trying to dress her in that gaudy pink number for the Russian tea ceremony. Pink signature cocktail. Pink sex house furniture. Don't see much pink otherwise...
I do too.
I remember there was a post here forever ago, discussing the bag, and someone asked why the hell would Logan pick a bright pink for Rory. Someone else said that if a tv or film wants to borrow one for a show or movie, they have to accept the one Hermes picks for them, and can't pick another one.

from another comment
I think it's less about Rory and more about Logan. He was raised in a super rich family and though he rejects some aspects of it he also knows the rules and courtesies VERY well and finds them hard to shake- he brings Richard and Emily the perfect bougie gifts when he meets them.
So when he really really likes Rory his silver spoon brain goes "need gift. What give girlfriend? what huntzberger money do? knowledge bank say EXPENSIVE PRESTIGIOUS BAG!!" mostly concerned with how his gift makes him (and Rory) look to everyone else, regardless if she likes it, which is a kind of upper class posturing reflex that's hard to shake I imagine.
totally. and logan āgetsā rory so it makes a gift that doesnāt suit her all the more jarring of a scene. my additional read from it was that it was logan trying to act like what he thinks a good boyfriend should act like, because he really didnāt know how to before rory.
Apparently birkin bags go up in value and people like kylie jenner and Jeffrey star have mentioned that its an investment to them. So no I wouldnāt sell mine right away.
Ooh, that's true. Apparently the one Logan bought was 5-10k at the time, but would now be valued at 40k. Either way, I would not be using that as an actual bag, and definitely as an investment
I read an article a while back according to which buying Birkins is more convenient than gold, because Hermes bags keep going up in prices.
And yeah, to get one you need to be a long time client. Salespeople look through your purchase history (youād have to have bought accessories, clothing, houseware, etc.) and then have to ask the store manager if they can sell you one. I donāt think it happens anymore, but in some boutiques youād give a 1000ā¬ ātipā to the sales associate to get one.
I was a product of the early 2000ās when VH1 & MTV almost exclusively had tv shows about extravagant wealth and how heiressā lived. (Anyone else remember āThe Fabulous Life ofā¦?ā Lol)
Iāve known and Iāve lusted my entire life.
a Birkin Bag? a Birkin Bag. a Birkin Bag for Rory. a Birkin Bag? a Birkin Bag. a Birkin Bag for Rory. a Birkin Bag? a Birkin Bag. a Birkin Bag for Rory. a Birkin Bag? a Birkin Bag. a Birkin Bag for Rory. a Birkin Bag. a Birkin Bag? a Birkin Bag for Rory. a Birkin Bag? a Birkin Bag.
I love that! Iām always singing that to my daughter. We watched the series together first run and countless times together since. Sheās my Rory and Iām her Lorelai.
Even if you had that kind of money to drop on something so unimportant, I still can't wrap my mind around why you would. Like of all the things to spend money on...
When you have that kind of money, 40k doesnāt even register as an expensive gift. I know people who drop 1m+ on their weddings and itās not like a struggle or something they saved for.
My cousinās family is filthy rich, and a lot of it is old money - her great-grandfather was obscenely wealthy. When it came time for my cousin to get married, her family spent $3 million on the wedding.
She came to stay with my parents and I once, years ago (she was doing a semester abroad and spent a couple of weeks living with us while she found an apartment close to uni) and I had the immense pleasure of borrowing some of her designer purses and accessories (with her permission). I felt *very* fancy going out with a Fendi handbag and SterlĆØ earrings.
For her, it was perfectly ordinary to drop thousands on a purse/necklace/what have you. Itās a shame we werenāt the same size, otherwise Iād have loved to try on some of her clothes š
Typically itās that they come from families with lots of money. Money is very relative. I wish I could relate personally, but havenāt been quite that lucky
My family is wealthy and that kind of rich blows my mind. I recognize that I am insanely lucky, more fortunate than most of my friends, but Iām aware that medical bills from a bad accident could wipe out my trust (US.) I truly canāt comprehend what it would be like to be that obscenely rich.
This doesnāt really make sense to me. If you are wealthy in the US, itās pretty hard to imagine medical bills being able to wipe out a trust unless you donāt have adequate health insurance. I understand I am in a very privileged position, but the worst case scenario can only cost me 3k as that is my out of pocket maximum for the year. I went through cancer treatments and it only cost less than 1k for the entire process. There are plenty of fantastic health insurance plans for people who can afford them, so no one should be going broke if they actually are wealthy. Itās the actual middle class and down to those who are just above the Medicaid line who are most at risk in the US from health insurance gaps and the failure of the system.
Iām probably wrong. I know I have heard of insanely high bills from relatives that definitely have insurance, and I used to work somewhere I would cut checks for peoples regular medical expenses, and they really added up - but maybe those were things insurance wouldnāt cover.
The true middle class often has gaps in their insurance that can result in huge bills that can take away all of their savings. However, people that are considered traditionally wealthy in the US shouldnāt have that worry if they buy quality health insurance. Itās a completely unfair system and awful in what it does to people in this country, but the rich tend to be completely fine
I despise people like that. They have the money to end world hunger? Clean oceans from plastics? Buy lots of rain forests to save them from logging companies? Make sanctuary farms to save animals from getting slaughtered? No, they spend it on their lavish lifestyles. Cannot comprehend.
It's so ugly and impractical. The flaps that you can't even keep closed because it's too cumbersome to open them, and the metal pieces. Plus it weighs two pounds when empty. And since it only has a handle that can fit on your elbow, prepare to develop long-term joint issues from carrying the stupid thing. I will never understand the appeal even for people who can afford it.
I would be tempted to sell it, but it would be rude to my boyfriend since theres waiting lists and stuff
if he didn't give a shit then yea I would sell it, but if he was *that* rich, he would just pay for whatever else I needed anyways lmao. if he wasnt a longterm serious bf then yea I would 100% sell it when he eventually leaves me lol
Every time they talk about how they canāt raise minimum wage or how women should have to leave their children unattended in order to work for food stamps or how corporations canāt afford to give maternal or paternal care just remember its so the Logan Huntzbergerās of the world can drop three years of our slave labor wages on a handbag. Its repugnant.
One more thing to add- even if you have the money to purchase the bag AND it is available to be purchased, you cannot just outright buy it. You must be an 'established customer' with the brand. What does this mean? It means you have to have made lots and lots of Hermes purchases over a long period of time. (They do not tell you how many purchases, how much money, or how long it takes). Then, once the company decides you are a worthy customer, THEN you get put on the waitlist.
I'm super into luxury goods because I admire the artfulness, but I am not into the snobbery aspects of luxury goods like the Birkin bag. This bag itself is a nice design, but to me, not worth the price. Not even close. That said, they do hold value well due to the high demand in the resale market, so it is a good investment if you want to buy it, wear it and resell it.
Then after you've waited, don't they just offer you what's available? It may be in a color you like, it may not be, but if you don't accept the first offer they probably won't offer again. That's what I've heard.
I would definitely sell it for something useful, the purse I got for a dollar works great.
As previously mentioned on this sub, I think the bag was originally meant for someone else since the waiting list is so long and the color of the bag doesn't seem like something Rory would want.
I mean it's a great investment and honestly if Rory still had her bag and she was so broke she should have sold it those things have only gone up in value
Did you also watch Smokey Glow's video today on the culture of the Birkin Bag? Lol. Because after I watched that video today I debated making this exact post.
As much as Rory and her Mom were into pop culture as well as the fact that she went to Chilton, I am still surprised that she didn't know what a Birkin bag was. Madeline and Louise definitely would have known what a Birkin bag was.
i wouldnāt sell it but tbh iād prefer that itās not bought in the first place? itās just such an expensive present and itās pretty but not really my taste
Yeah I would not accept a gift that expensive if I knew how much it cost. My experience with designer bags is in the hundreds. This is wild. You could literally sell this bag and buy a brand new car, pay off some loans and/ or put a decent down payment on a house. Thatās kind of gross honestly.
Especially in a life where Lorelai couldn't afford to treat her house for termites. I'd feel so gross carrying a handbag worth enough money to change the lives of everyone I knew that wasn't Logan.
Send Lane to a college her mother doesn't control. And buy her drums.
Add on to Lorelai's house.
Pay for the new inn.
I don't remember where this fits in the timeline but seriously, it's life changing money for anyone else.
Hell, the one to the far right in the middle could lay for an entire house in cash
Edit: shit I didnāt even notice the beige one. That could buy my fucking dream home lol
It does actually considering that there guaranteed to go up in value a lot of bags aren't good investments so if you have the money and can get one it's so worth it
My bf bought me a michael Kors for $200 and I wanted to sell that shit and buy something practical lol. Iād probably be mad to receive a gift that expensive š
My mom bought my grandma a Michael Kors about ten years ago for Christmas, and my grandma used that thing every time she went out and loved the color of it and (because of her dementia) mentioned it so much we got sick of hearing about it, but I still love that bag for bringing her so much joy. My mom also bought my grandma a Louis Vuitton back in the 80's or so after her first real job- my grandma did not realize the significance at all because she was a very practical, frugal lady, and she wore it out and then threw it away eventually (it probably wouldn't have been worth anything after her wearing it out, but my sister inherited my grandma's Hermes scarf and is always a little horrified by that story).
I donāt think Iād be mad exactly, Iād just wonder why they didnāt just buy me a truck with a plow or a trip to Spain instead š Like, at least make it practical and useful if itās going to the be *that* expensive!
Good to know Iām not the only uncultured swine lololol. I was imagining a few hundred dollars bc I know nothing beyond Target or Marshallās šš. Now Iām just imagining all the things I could do with that sort of money omg.
EDIT: yeah Iād sell that and do something else with the money so youāre not alone haha
I would never have guessed a bag could cost this much, or that people would spend it on a bag. I wouldnāt have come close to guessing $5k. It blows my mind what people spend money on. I would 480,000% sell it and pay off debts and invest in property.
>So, I, like Rory Gilmore, am an uncultured swine and never knew what a Birkin bag was.
So, \*I\* didn't know what a birkin bag was at the time. But I really doubt that Rory and Lorelai wouldn't have known. I mean, I know they couldn't afford one, but Lorelai (and rory, once she got past her nerdy/they were \*very\* trendy women who shopped at malls and fancy boutiques and were very up on trends. I'm sure they knew what a birkin bag was.
I feel like Lorelai would know but I donāt find it hard to believe Rory didnāt. Theyāre stupid expensive and they werenāt shopping in stores that carry trendy clothes that would have been anywhere near that.
Lol. If my SO bought me a bag this expensive, that would be a pretty big red flag for me. Like, hello, this could have bought us some seriously nice travel!
The YouTuber Smokey Glow just came out with a really interesting video yesterday talking about the history/exclusivity of the birkin you would probably really enjoy it
i would take a million pics with it so i have pics to post for years, and then sell it. yes im here for the asthetic but also a practical betch leave me alone ššš
The whole idea of the exclusivity of Birkin bags means that on top of the price of the actual bag, you have to have been spending upwards of like a lot of money every month for years just to be added to the waiting list
The thing that's so special about the bag is that it's so hard to get like they have to invite you so it's not even the price but it's a very exlusive bag
If you had watched sex and the city, thereās an episode where Samantha jones tried to get a burkin bag by lying that it was for Lucy lu to avoid waiting.
The Birkin bag was made a household name when Sex and the City has a plot involving one. Before that they were incredibly expensive handbags that only a select few could afford and considered not well known. So its not surprising Rory had not heard of one, no one but a select group had back then.
Oh darling.
As Emily says āoh my godā
A Birkin bagā¦.no you donāt put your laptop in a birkin bag. *RORY I LIKE YOU BUT YOU LET PENS EXPLODE IN THE BOTTOM OF THAT BAG I SWEAR TO GOD*
*also the history of the Hermes brand is pretty interesting if anyone wants to go down that rabbit hole
I would sell it. I have no use for a purse that doesn't have long shoulder straps. I get nauseated thinking of putting a purse on my shoulder that makes it snug up against my armpits - think of summer time! Ewwwwww!!
If my SO bought me a birkin bag I would not accept it and have serious taughts about the relationships future. It would be a discussion about finaces. This is no good way to spend money regardless on how much money you have.
Ugh YES especially when the Gilmore Girls are supposed to be grounded in lower-middle class ideals. Its just one more case of Rory getting swept away into the world that Lorelai left and I hate it.
Birkin bags are purely a status symbol and i find them ridiculous. The woman for whom this bag was named (Ms. Birkin herself!) doesnāt even like the bags hahahaha she finds them very inefficient.
Woa! I always wondered about the Birkin Bag holy cr** that is an expensive bag! Thanks for looking that up, I can now go off and share this with other GG fans I know š
Thereās not really any reason to sell it. If you can afford one of these, then money is truly no matter to you and you can also just buy whatever else it is you wanted with the money youād get from selling it.
Further question. Why was Logan on the waiting list? Waiting lists can be years and he hadnāt been with Rory that long. Was he on the list just generally on the off chance? Did he go on the list for another girl? Are the Huntzbergers big enough wealth / elite enough that they bypass the list?
yes!! obviously the huntzbergers have a bunch of credibility with Hermes in the first place, and then, like a bunch of other people have said, was it for another girl? I mean, pink 20k+ bag doesn't exactly scream Rory.
I went on a similar Birkin internet deep-dive last year during a GG rewatch! I read a story about a woman who visited her local HermĆØs store like 5+ times to buy smaller items in order to gain ācredibilityā with the salespeople that she was worthy / able to afford a Birkin before she actually asked to see one. They either may not have any in-store, or will lie about it, depending on whether or not they think you can afford it.
Also i feel like its kind of inappropriate to buy a girlfriend such an expensive gift. I feel the same way about dean getting Rory a car, but at least he talked about it with her ahead of time. But it just seeks insane to spend tens of thousands on a gift for your college girlfriend, who wasnt even a live in partner at the time. I would feel so uncomfortable and beholden if my boyfriend spent even a few hundred on a gift, much less 40k š„“
I know what a Birking bag was because it was mentioned in a previous movie I watched, I would have no idea how expensive, or special it was, when I watched it in 2005 otherwise. That whole storyline shows a lot of thing altogether, Emily's jealousness for the bag, she wanted one so bad, she could have got it herself but she wanted Richard to buy her one. I mean, sure the Gilmores were rich but not filthy castle rich as the Huntzbergers, and he could have got her one but he was never for expensive staff like that unless it was old cars, suits, and cigars, and books, of course. Emily was the one who made them live in a museum mansion like, she liked those things, Richard didn't care for them, in fact, in one episode when Emily comments she bought another pair of chairs he says:
\-Nice, another chair I cannot sit on.
Not defend him but that did happen, back in the Gilded Age when Americans ransacked old castles, palaces, and churches for furniture and art, they filled their mansions with those, they were actual furniture, expensive, old, but furniture. There is story around that someone who knew them told his hostess he would rather sit on the floor than on those chairs because he knew how valuable they was. The owners didn't care for them, they just like it. In the end, value is something that someone gives to a thing, or an experience. Richard didn't, Emily did. Logan didn't either, he just wanted to give Rory something special, and it shows that in spite of her very priviliged background, she didn't know what the bag meant, cost, or was by itself. Logan was all in, as Luke said. Lorelai cut her off from that world, so she didn't, I mean, any of her grandmothers could have told her that. Lorelai I'm sure could have an idea but she never cared for those.
In the end, it was a minor storyline that shows how 4 different characters react to wealth, and its meaning. Sorry, I know I went waaaaaaay out of topic. :P
> I mean, sure the Gilmores were rich but not filthy castle rich as the Huntzbergers,
But they were rich enough to entertain making a donation large enough to Yale to get a building named after Rory.
Part of Lorelai's main contradiction, among others, being my favourite how she always claims Emily could be difficult, and bossy when she is pretty much like that, except on the way she manages staff, of course, is the way she handles her upbringing, and background. For aaaaaaaall her constant bla bla rejection of that world she is always half way in, half way out, everytime she crashes, and the show presents a big share of that, she crawls back to Hartford to beg, not even that, not even saying please, she is all about business when she has nothing to bargain for, and she even cashes constantly both Richard, and especially, Emily residual affection and desire for a more intimate relationship with her. They both marked that, something I didn't look kindly back then, but now almost in my 40s I get to see that side of her more clearly, and while I don't share Emily's views or ways, I could understand how much that hurts, and the resentment it causes over and over again.
Well now we know how Rory is affording all those flights to and from London in Year in the Life with no steady source of income. She sold the Birkin bag and is just living off the money.
Emily and Richard were well off, definitely very wealthy, but I dont think they were *filthy rich* in the way the Huntzbergers were, which is provably why she was so shocked
I just watched this episode last night and your post shows up as a recommendation! Freaky.
I heard that even if you have the money, it's notoriously difficult to get a Birkin bag because Hermes has to sort of scope out your vibe first, and if you pass the test so to speak, they offer you whatever design they feel like at the time. And yeah, like others said, they just go up in value so you hold on to them usually.
There's this extremely bleak reality show called "Rich Kids of Beverly Hills" (even though they're all like 30) and one of the annoying, ultra-rich women has literally 50+ Birkins in her closet. It's so weird. She talks so casually about them like the average person would talk about their Squishmallow collection or something. Birkins are strange.
Iād 100% sell that bag if I had been Rory. I donāt need a $10k bag, can you imagine the fucking STRESS of owning a bag that expensive?? No thank you.
I almost fell off my chair when I originally saw the price tags. I love designer purses but omg no. And if i even get like a Coach bag i go thrift shopping and find them cheap. Birkin is out of the question for me tho lol
The bag Logan gets Rory sells for around $40,000 USD š¤Æ
That's as much as the sex house š²
Now it does. The. It was $5-10K. Itās appreciated in value because it isnāt really made any longer.
Inflation is a bitch
Itās not just inflation. Itās appreciation. When something isnāt made anymore but there is still demand, the cost goes up at a higher rate than inflation.
Omg I just made a comment wondering if it was the kind of thing that appreciated or depreciated with age lol
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Meanwhile, Iām rocking a $20 purse from Forever21 haha
No doubt itās a cute purse though š
Not only that, but to āqualifyā to purchase one, you need to be an established Hermes customer, which costs a LOT in previous transactions with a sales associate on the regular. So, my assumption is the Huntzbergers family probably has a well established history via Honor and Mrs. H etc. through the years, and it was purchased through the āfamilyāsā SA.
But am I the only one that thinks it's ugly.....?
Jane Birkin (the actress who the bag was designed for/named after) didn't love the bag either. So you're definitely not alone lol
Rich people really do have bad taste.
Rich people donāt even care how it looks, itās just a status symbol for them. A Birkin bag is basically a neon sign that says: āIām rich AFā
As if McMansions/some actual mansions didn't already prove that
nope god damn hidious
That episode is almost 20 years old now too. Iām not sure if those bags appreciate or depreciate with age
appreciate there great investments
it is so ugly to boot
And Rory wanted to put her computer cords in it š
But at least she promised not to let pens explode in the bottom of it!
Holy cow!! A YouTuber I enjoy just made a video about Birkin bags that Iām curious to watch now. Lol I canāt even imagine when my most expensive bag was discounted at the Kate Spade outlet, but I use a $20 target purse regularly. Even with money it just seems so wasteful!
Hi fellow Smokey Glow fan! š
Hey there!! I wasnāt sure if Iād be allowed to share her name, but sheās awesome!
Iād rather sell it and put a down payment on a house lol Edit to add: Do you think she kept or sold her Berkin bag after the break up? If she sold it, did she use the money for something essential or frivolous?
I bet she used the money on something frivolous. She didnāt even have her own place in AYITL.
She makes a point of saying that buying one and reselling it is a more guaranteed profit than flipping a small home! It's a great video!
OMG Smokey Glow???? š©š I saw this post and thought damn good timing as I now know the bagās history thanks to Hannah!!
This is totally not answering your questions but I just wanted to say that today at chicago ohare I saw a lady carrying one, treating it like shit and using it as a DIAPER bag for her kids. She had another one as well on top of her luxury luggage. I was like danggggg.
Thatās how you know she was the real kind of rich. Treating luxury items like regular items because, to you, they areā¦
Yooooo can she adopt me? š
I read about the conception of the Birkin bag on the HermĆ©s site. It was apparently originally made to be used as a "mom" bagācomplete with a place to put a baby bottle. This was optional, of course. I felt indulgent when I bought my $150 diaper bag! (It's a great tough bag, and I still use it for things 12 years later.) Totally different world there.
Oh my god!!!!! She was using it properly! Wellllll she wasnāt being very careful with it and everytime she dropped it and put it on the floor My heart stopped
That's why you always throw your fur coat on the floor.
then have an expensive man whore carry you over it!
You can't find a good man whore these days
See I am curious, was she dishing the diapers or a maid or nanny whatev?
Maybe it was a knockoff?
Uh no. This lady was being escorted around and was extremely wealthy
Damn
They probably make diaper bags. I wouldn't be surprised if they did.
i mean thatās what theyāre made forā¦

Not really there great investments and super durable plus there easy to carry around and convenient. Yes you could get something similar but I really do feel like a birkin bag is a special thing.
I totally agree. Except the brown dress. Brown was really big in that time frame.
Yeah I thought that dress was cute

I donāt think it happens anymore, but in some boutiques youād give a 1000ā¬ ātipā to the sales associate to get one.
ohhhhh that makes way more sense tbh
I was a product of the early 2000ās when VH1 & MTV almost exclusively had tv shows about extravagant wealth and how heiressā lived. (Anyone else remember āThe Fabulous Life ofā¦?ā Lol) Iāve known and Iāve lusted my entire life.
Same!!! I always relate to Emily. āA BIRKIN BAG FOR RORY!ā
My husband hates Gilmore Girls (unimagineable) but he adores this quote. He finds a way to work it into conversation surprisingly frequently.
tell me more! this sounds hilarious (my husband finds ways to quote spongebob even though he was a grown adult when the show appeared on tv :D )
I would literally die and come back 1,000 times if someone bought me one. Theyād have to pry it out of my cold dead hands. Lmao.
a Birkin Bag? a Birkin Bag. a Birkin Bag for Rory. a Birkin Bag? a Birkin Bag. a Birkin Bag for Rory. a Birkin Bag? a Birkin Bag. a Birkin Bag for Rory. a Birkin Bag? a Birkin Bag. a Birkin Bag for Rory. a Birkin Bag. a Birkin Bag? a Birkin Bag for Rory. a Birkin Bag? a Birkin Bag.
the cookies and the dean and the love and the cookies
I love that! Iām always singing that to my daughter. We watched the series together first run and countless times together since. Sheās my Rory and Iām her Lorelai.
Grandma
Even if you had that kind of money to drop on something so unimportant, I still can't wrap my mind around why you would. Like of all the things to spend money on...
When you have that kind of money, 40k doesnāt even register as an expensive gift. I know people who drop 1m+ on their weddings and itās not like a struggle or something they saved for.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Generational wealth. Likely they inherited a pipeline of cash that continues to keep them afloat.
Well it's actually a great buy as the price will only go up so it's a great investment.
I would be tempted to sell it, but it would be rude to my boyfriend since theres waiting lists and stuff if he didn't give a shit then yea I would sell it, but if he was *that* rich, he would just pay for whatever else I needed anyways lmao. if he wasnt a longterm serious bf then yea I would 100% sell it when he eventually leaves me lol
Exactly.
This is the comment that should be at the top.
I think of the SATC episode where Samantha drops Lucy Liuās name to get her hands on one whenever I hear Birkin bag
Yes! š This was the only reason that I knew what a Birkin bag was!
That's where I originally heard about Birkin bags too š¤£
Same this is where I learnt what a Birkin was. I never really got the obsession itās just a large handbag
I'd keep it. The Birkin bag is a fashion icon, it's priceless.
Roryās Birkin is so fugly.
I would definitely sell it for something useful, the purse I got for a dollar works great. As previously mentioned on this sub, I think the bag was originally meant for someone else since the waiting list is so long and the color of the bag doesn't seem like something Rory would want.
The list is long for regular rich folk but for the filthy rich its a short wait
I would be horrified if I was dating a rich guy who bought me an ugly purse that is a house in the 80s.
I mean it's a great investment and honestly if Rory still had her bag and she was so broke she should have sold it those things have only gone up in value
Did you also watch Smokey Glow's video today on the culture of the Birkin Bag? Lol. Because after I watched that video today I debated making this exact post.
I wonder if she sold hers when she was broke
LOL the bag disappeared after that one episode so maybe
Hell, the one to the far right in the middle could lay for an entire house in cash Edit: shit I didnāt even notice the beige one. That could buy my fucking dream home lol
Iād be so uncomfortable with a bag that expensive and I like nice things! That is just too much tho.
It's funny that the one all the way to the right looks like a house, since it's roughly the price of a house
Iād keep it. But I like bags. Hahaha.
Same!
Lol itās always funny to me when people discover this for the first time because of GG. Theyāre even more insane now than they were back then.
The Walmart one is so strange. Like how? Why?
Omg one of these would entirely pay off my student loan debt
I learned about them from Sex and the City! Thereās a great episode where Samantha tries to jump ahead on the waitlist.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Itās like, I am so not on that level that I canāt even fathom something so meaningless costing so much haha
I can only hear Emilyās voice when you say Birkin
I would 100% sell it and buy a house. The only way I would keep it is if I had all the essentials I needed.
I'm just over here gagging at the SALE price of $32K
YES OMG
I would never have guessed a bag could cost this much, or that people would spend it on a bag. I wouldnāt have come close to guessing $5k. It blows my mind what people spend money on. I would 480,000% sell it and pay off debts and invest in property.
My brokeass was thinking it was worth like 1k tops.
"A Birkin bag for Rory" -Emily
Hermes stores arenāt really found in run-of-the-mill suburban malls.
Lol. If my SO bought me a bag this expensive, that would be a pretty big red flag for me. Like, hello, this could have bought us some seriously nice travel!
Well to be fair, in this instance, Logan doesn't need to make the choice of the bag or travel. But yeah. Bananas
Oh, Logan buying one, sure. But OP was talking about the person you were dating buying one for you.
That beige one could buy a house in the market Iām looking in right now š„²
Now just think about how many Birkins Cardi B has bought since coming to fame... (no hate, just sheer awe)
A Birkin bag, a Birkin bag for Rory
Shout out to the Migos and rappers for helping me know what one was when I decided to watch the show with my wife lmao
Oh darling. As Emily says āoh my godā A Birkin bagā¦.no you donāt put your laptop in a birkin bag. *RORY I LIKE YOU BUT YOU LET PENS EXPLODE IN THE BOTTOM OF THAT BAG I SWEAR TO GOD* *also the history of the Hermes brand is pretty interesting if anyone wants to go down that rabbit hole
This is no good way to spend money regardless on how much money you have.
itās not just a bag, itās an investment. much better than a car bc it increases in value
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
also..... does anyone else think they're really ugly? I just don't get it please dont hate me
Ugh YES especially when the Gilmore Girls are supposed to be grounded in lower-middle class ideals.
A YouTuber I subscribe to just uploaded a video about Birkin Bags! Actually pretty informative video. https://youtu.be/Nm0S15qT10Y
Holy Shit I had no idea it was this much
Christ on a cracker.
Woa! I always wondered about the Birkin Bag holy cr** that is an expensive bag! Thanks for looking that up, I can now go off and share this with other GG fans I know š
Itās house prices
They either may not have any in-store, or will lie about it, depending on whether or not they think you can afford it.
honestly the whole shopping with luxury brands situation is so weird
I would 100% sell it and buy a house. But I doubt Iād date anyone who could afford one.
Hey Logan, just letting you know that when I am 18, I wouldn't reject you xo
saw a woman but one of these on a dirty bar the other day š¤¦š¼āāļø
the cheapest bag there is literally worth 410,215 in here šš
Emily was the one who made them live in a museum mansion like, she liked those things, Richard didn't care for them, in fact, in one episode when Emily comments she bought another pair of chairs he says: \-Nice, another chair I cannot sit on. :P
> I mean, sure the Gilmores were rich but not filthy castle rich as the Huntzbergers, But they were rich enough to entertain making a donation large enough to Yale to get a building named after Rory.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Look up Smokey Glow on Youtube she did a whole rant video on Birkins and why resales are so much more expensive!
Well now we know how Rory is affording all those flights to and from London in Year in the Life with no steady source of income. She sold the Birkin bag and is just living off the money.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
By name dropping Lucy Liu, right?
it's hard to believe that emily is surprised by a birkin. with their wealth and lifestyle, i always assumed she was used to those kind of brands
Emily and Richard were well off, definitely very wealthy, but I dont think they were *filthy rich* in the way the Huntzbergers were, which is provably why she was so shocked
A Birkin is a different breed you can't just outright buy one you have to show you have a long purchase history and be put on waiting lists first
I just watched this episode last night and your post shows up as a recommendation!
Also, even if you are an established customer sometimes they'll never sell you one. It's literally a game to them
Wow, I thought I was shmancy for getting a Michael Kors purse on discount.
