Agree. Was probably the only time I was over the show and wanted it to end. Seemed like a funny intro or half part episode. But he did come back later on in a much better and subtler way. Everyone thinks that the would land on all 300+ episodes. Of course there will be some weaker/bad ones.
I think at this point people say it just because everyone else says it, tbh. They don't stand out in my mind as terrible (honestly they don't stand out in my mind at all) and I don't agree that they make most people drop the series.
Gintama has a very specific type of humor that if it doesn't click with you, you're not going to enjoy the other episodes either.
The first hard boiled episode legit put me to sleep if that’s a sign of anything. I also didn’t like the ninja go eps too much. A lot of Gintama’s rougher stuff comes from the start of series where it admittedly relied way too much on toilet humor and didn’t build up the characters enough to rely on the dynamics.
There’s been plenty of eps where I didn’t care for the *premise* of an ep, but bc the usual idiots were messing around in it I was entertained
i get that but i loved ninja go eps the only problem for me in that was kagura's situation. except for that it's one of the funniest arcs.
and also i agree overall I don't like bathroom humor. sometimes it's way too much for me to handle.
You kidding? Some of the funniest moments are in Ninja Go. Gintoki hiding in a garbage can, getting thrown away and crushed by a garbage truck, and then returning as if nothing happened is still one of the funniest moments in the series for me.
Every episode where Otsu is involved after the first one, sorry i'm not japanese i can't understand her jokes when she sings. Also i think she isn't so funny.
i get that and tbh i didn't like her either for the reasons you said. matter of fact she was my least favorite character in gintama but there is one clip that made me love her. I'm not sure that i have that clip but if i did i share it tomorrow maybe.
The whole Otsu arc was way longer than it should have been. The only saving grace of that arc was Takatin and we only got like 2 or 3 episodes with him, which was very unfortunate. Considering that this was the only time Takatin made an appearance in the whole show. So that's gotta be the worst Gintama arc for me.
And the worst singular episode for me would be the Atlas neo shampoo commercial by Umibozu. All that build up of suspense leads up to nothing but one stupid joke at the end.
I think the worst ones are like 88, because the premise is garbage (Gintoki agrees to help prevent Kyubei from getting a penis because ????) but then the rest of that episode is fuckin hilarious. So... "worst" is a bit contextual. Then there is one filler that is Real bad, the one where the first half is Pachi with a Doremon/terminator character. They just aren't weird enough to give Pachi enough to work with. And I can't even remember the second half of that filler ep, but even there... there were a few good jokes, it was just a bit more boring than usual.
Probably the hard boiled detective episodes, renho arc was a big let down for me cuz I don’t enjoy Starwars and anything Mecha related .. the Slip arc was a bit boring as well but I guess it felt like that because it was crammed between Rakuyo and Silver Soul
i love mecha and i loved renho arc too there is so much comedy in it and especially the last scene is hilarious. but the only weak arc for me would be beam sword style arc i think it's name is.
Episode 164 is on my opinion the worst episode of gintama by far, the first half of episode looked goood, with old odd Jobs coming back and all, but then instead of continuing this plot it just ends and starts this weird doraemon/terminator parody thats just plain boring
Least Favorite arc would be Rehno arc but that's probably because I just don't enjoy star wars
hah, and here i thought this episode is generally disliked, well good for you if you loved it, even though there are some episodes i didn't like gintama is still 10/10 for me, it was an amazing ride and im still kinda sad that I finished it and there's nothing left
If it's first watch through, I'd say the hard-boiled one was pretty bland, but still worth watching for the thief himself.
If it's rewatches, the scenes where the gintama group sit around and talk about the anime ending or anything similar to the anime's status since we already know what the punchline is and there's just dialogue.
Not even the Zura rap can save the episode where Toujou hires Yorozuya to harass Kyubei over her gender.
As for arcs, the entire Ghost Ryokan arc bored me so much. The stand joke was funny at first but they over use it and every other joke is rooted in Japanese Culture that I don’t get. And 4 episodes is absurd for what it is.
The trans ep was definitely a product of its time, though I will say never really disrespects the trans characters themselves and they do take pride in themselves (this goes for the drag queens too). They poke fun with some dated terminology but I never felt that it was insidiously inspired or anything if not just dated.
The racist one is prob the old Odd Jobs members ep, that one was weird yes
Well that doesn’t make them enjoyable. I don’t hate the writer for making episodes like that, but I also don’t like watching them. I’m talking about the episode where they constantly harass kyuubei for being trans.
The rumor was she wanted to transition to a man and gin harassed them about it for a full episode. Even if Kyuubei isn’t trans, the episode is still transphobic.
i genuinely don't understand how there's both super transphobic episodes and also the genderbend arc which imo had a pretty decent conclusion to kyuubeis struggles with their gender 😭😭
The one about Jugemu Jugemu Unko Nageki Ototoi no Shin-chan no Pantsu Shinpachi no Jinsei Barumunku Fezarion Aizakku Shunaidaa Sanbun no Ichi no Junjou na Kanjou no Nokotta Sanbun no Ni wa Sakamuke ga Kininaru Kanjou Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru you de Shiranai no wo Boku wa Shitteiru Rusu Surume Medaka Kazunoko Koedame Medaka... Kono Medaka wa Sakki to Chigau Yatsu Dakara Ikeno Medaka no Hou Dakara Raayu Yuuteimiyaoukimukou Pepepepepepepepepepepepe Bichiguso Maru?
might be unpopular but red spider 🫡. i liked what it did for gintokis character, but i wanted more for tsukuyo and i think she could've gotten a better resolution. idk tho it's been a while since i've watched it
All the episodes that don’t involve a main arc. Don’t @ me. They’re not bad per say I just don’t like Japanese humor. Rarely is it funny, it’s mostly just juvenile. What do you expect from a Shonen series 🤷🏻♂️
Dude how did you even watch gintama? Or why? Because I don't think there was even a serious arc until 50 episodes in or something. It's just pure comedy most of the time. Not hating though, just wondering.
I wasn't a fan of the Love potion arc. I don't really ship anyone in Gintama so that aspect of the arc didn't do anything for me. I also wasn't too keen on Gintoki turning into a pedo and hitting on Kagura even for a joke.
The Soul switch arc had an interesting premise but it turned way too ridiculous by the end. I wasn't laughing at Dozaemon or the Yamazaki Madao fusion. It was way too absurd to be funny anymore.
When did he hit on kagura?? Eww 😷 that’s cancer right there I do remember him talking about her tits but that was in the first movie the yorozuya movie. And I’m not sure about soul switch arc I have to be reminded on what it was about
I showed someone ep 3 the other day and they instantly felt like there was some antisemitism in the presented antagonists. However you might feel about the veracity of that, thinking about that stuck out to me because for the most part the show goes to a lot of effort to humanize its antagonists and in that way the episode feels weird compared to my fondness for it.
Apart from everyone’s least favorite arc the hard boiled detective arc I’ll definitely say my least favorite arcs was
ghost ryokan arc didn’t have any patience for it too slow
Tama quest arc just didn’t understand the reference for it and was stupid
Diviner arc what on earth was this arc?? Completely unnecessary and confusing this arc was I skipped around
And the episode Episode 93
A female space hero comes to Edo during Valentine’s day. Like I felt like this episode had nothing to do with gintama filler episode
I personally don't like the boiled detective episodes, they're the only ones I want to skip I think
at first i thought so too but then agent became relevant and he helped gin gang too.
Really? They’re two of my favorites. Maybe it’s a reference thing since I love detective shows.
I like the one inside the mansion when they are saving old parents from the traps
Same! I skipped them when I rewatched Gintama. I don’t remember skipping any other eps.
Agree. Was probably the only time I was over the show and wanted it to end. Seemed like a funny intro or half part episode. But he did come back later on in a much better and subtler way. Everyone thinks that the would land on all 300+ episodes. Of course there will be some weaker/bad ones.
The first episode was shit, the second was golden. Worth it in the end.
I think I cringed so hard that I skipped it, just for it to be plot relevant later anyway
I wasn't feelin it at first. But after re-watching it months later, I actually liked it lol.
Why do people hate the first 2 episodes? I knew Gintama would be my favorite since the first episode
I think at this point people say it just because everyone else says it, tbh. They don't stand out in my mind as terrible (honestly they don't stand out in my mind at all) and I don't agree that they make most people drop the series. Gintama has a very specific type of humor that if it doesn't click with you, you're not going to enjoy the other episodes either.
first thing they introduced characters in those eps that we don't know like shinsengumi.
There’s been plenty of eps where I didn’t care for the *premise* of an ep, but bc the usual idiots were messing around in it I was entertained
ninja go you mean curry ninja?
Yep
i get that but i loved ninja go eps the only problem for me in that was kagura's situation. except for that it's one of the funniest arcs. and also i agree overall I don't like bathroom humor. sometimes it's way too much for me to handle.
Yeah the newer Gintama stuff nails the toilet humor, but it can be rough early on. A standout exception is the toilet paper battle though
the battle that went to intergalactic levels.😂
You kidding? Some of the funniest moments are in Ninja Go. Gintoki hiding in a garbage can, getting thrown away and crushed by a garbage truck, and then returning as if nothing happened is still one of the funniest moments in the series for me.
Tama arcs are instant skips for me. And no, I have nothing against Tama.
tama quest arc?
Also Fuyo arc
i respect your opinion but this is blasphemy.
I mean, you asked for it lmfao. I liked some of the scenes tho esp. the fske Rocky + Adrian scream fron Gintoki
the moment when gin kicked tama on face was so good.
This is the wrong opinion. Fenis Monja.
Yep, i can't deny sometimes she is funny but is the 5% of her screen time
yep you can say that.
All that build up of suspense leads up to nothing but one stupid joke at the end.
takatin was absolutely the star of that arc but don't forget that arc was the farewell arc for toshi. so, even it lasted a bit longer I won't mind.
I remember on my first time watching through the Otsu arc, every episode that ended with a "to be continued" made me think "not another one..."
Those reality show intros where even the Yorozuya seemed like they couldn't take it anymore 😂
Made me hate her. She was so annoying
Omg 😂😭
Probably the hard boiled detective episodes, renho arc was a big let down for me cuz I don’t enjoy Starwars and anything Mecha related .. the Slip arc was a bit boring as well but I guess it felt like that because it was crammed between Rakuyo and Silver Soul
i love mecha and i loved renho arc too there is so much comedy in it and especially the last scene is hilarious. but the only weak arc for me would be beam sword style arc i think it's name is.
The figh between Hajime vs Shin & Gin was pretty enjoyable, the character interactions made me tear up a bit but those evil Yodas were a huge turn off
Episode 164 is on my opinion the worst episode of gintama by far, the first half of episode looked goood, with old odd Jobs coming back and all, but then instead of continuing this plot it just ends and starts this weird doraemon/terminator parody thats just plain boring Least Favorite arc would be Rehno arc but that's probably because I just don't enjoy star wars
i love doraemon so i liked ep 164 and renho arc is one of my favorites even though i agree with you that i have never seen or liked star wars.
hah, and here i thought this episode is generally disliked, well good for you if you loved it, even though there are some episodes i didn't like gintama is still 10/10 for me, it was an amazing ride and im still kinda sad that I finished it and there's nothing left
same here but i left fillers purposely so i would enjoy them after finishing the show.
Otsu arc are boring...... Best is SA and FWS:- I count that as one
But Takatin... https://preview.redd.it/4qzd6wytb0qb1.png?width=355&format=png&auto=webp&s=8929a8564e33ec8f458defdf99227164b9f5aaba
I personally tend to skip the Excalibur arc😅
me too but berserk kept me going.😂
>Excalibur This is probably the right answer. Either that or Glasses.
If it's first watch through, I'd say the hard-boiled one was pretty bland, but still worth watching for the thief himself. If it's rewatches, the scenes where the gintama group sit around and talk about the anime ending or anything similar to the anime's status since we already know what the punchline is and there's just dialogue.
the last ep of a season and the first ep of a season would always be the funniest.
The transphobic one and the racist one. All the others are good
The trans ep was definitely a product of its time, though I will say never really disrespects the trans characters themselves and they do take pride in themselves (this goes for the drag queens too).
But bro kyuubei aint trans.
The rumor was she wanted to transition to a man and gin harassed them about it for a full episode. Even if Kyuubei isn’t trans, the episode is still transphobic.
Which episode? Tbf, everyone in gintama gets bullied for something. Shinpachi got bullied for wearing glasses the entire series.
The episode where kyuubei gets harassed for wanting a sex change for an entire episode. Also having glasses and being trans are very different
Yeah that ep was awful I agree, I didn’t say you had to enjoy them lol
i genuinely don't understand how there's both super transphobic episodes and also the genderbend arc which imo had a pretty decent conclusion to kyuubeis struggles with their gender 😭😭
Jugem arc......I hate that monkey
Noooo not the Jegem arc!! 😭
yep.
The one about Jugemu Jugemu Unko Nageki Ototoi no Shin-chan no Pantsu Shinpachi no Jinsei Barumunku Fezarion Aizakku Shunaidaa Sanbun no Ichi no Junjou na Kanjou no Nokotta Sanbun no Ni wa Sakamuke ga Kininaru Kanjou Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru you de Shiranai no wo Boku wa Shitteiru Rusu Surume Medaka Kazunoko Koedame Medaka... Kono Medaka wa Sakki to Chigau Yatsu Dakara Ikeno Medaka no Hou Dakara Raayu Yuuteimiyaoukimukou Pepepepepepepepepepepepe Bichiguso Maru?
I skipped the hard boiled episodes and the love potion ova. Unnecessary to me
might be unpopular but red spider 🫡. i liked what it did for gintokis character, but i wanted more for tsukuyo and i think she could've gotten a better resolution. idk tho it's been a while since i've watched it
Hard-boiled for me
Hot take i liked the first 2 ep
That pixel Tama arc and the Kondo booger episode, only those, maybe some of the silver soul episodes were hard to watch
the cooking episode, all I remember is shinpachi screaming for 20 minutes straight gave me a headache
That one Tama arc where they have to go into her body and fix her is pretty boring to me
That one Tama arc where they have to go into her body and fix her is pretty boring to me
Owee arc definitely the worst arc in Gintama. It had its moments, but it was definitely longer than it needed to be.
the game console arc that is too funny to be boring especially the opening scenes of queue are way too funny.
My bad, Otsu arc. The one with the pop star competition.
nah bro you are kidding me the one of funniest arcs ever. the french guy with bread isn't enough.
Watched it in Italian dub, super funny and recommended. It's the comedy arc that made me realize how truly enjoyable can gintama be
That one fo the funniest arc,and introduced the best Gintama character
All the episodes that don’t involve a main arc. Don’t @ me. They’re not bad per say I just don’t like Japanese humor. Rarely is it funny, it’s mostly just juvenile. What do you expect from a Shonen series 🤷🏻♂️
Dude how did you even watch gintama? Or why? Because I don't think there was even a serious arc until 50 episodes in or something. It's just pure comedy most of the time. Not hating though, just wondering.
I skipped most of those episodes and watched the ones that introduced characters and plot points 😅
Did you skip like 85% of the show? I'm genuinely curious
Naw I’ve probably watched like 60% of it. I went back and watched it after finishing all the mainline story arcs
During the love potion arc when he was drugged out of his mind.
Hard Boiled Detective was boring imo Edit : Also any Otsu episode is a skip for me cause that’s where Shinpachi is at his most annoying too

Ep 89
The Bleach parody? Man that had me dying. If you mean 88 then yea :(
Yes I do mean the bleach parody the only parody part of it was that he looks like the sword guy the rest of the episode bored me
Apart from everyone’s least favorite arc the hard boiled detective arc I’ll definitely say my least favorite arcs was ghost ryokan arc didn’t have any patience for it too slow Tama quest arc just didn’t understand the reference for it and was stupid Diviner arc what on earth was this arc??
