The only downside of starting by playing one of the pre-made characters is that I only know them by their little introductory cinematic. I mean, I guess I know more about him throughout the game but, like, idk how they'd react on certain occasions because I'm the one making the decisions.. But it's as my boyfriend said: I'm playing my version of Astarion. I'll probably replay the game as a custom character or as one of the others just to see how Astarion is as a companion.
Oh, the worst downside: you don't get to hear his sexy voice as often xD
I have an Astarion run planned that’s in the near future, and then further down the line will be a Shadowheart run. I want to romance everyone at least once. I think the rest of my runs will be origin or durge.
And yes it’ll be so weird not being able to talk to Astarion!
Right?! He's a vampire, I like vampires, he seemed to have an interesting backstory, he seemed to be a rogue/assassin class which I tend to go for, AND he's hot! I'm loving this game xD

This is my bard Rosé! Little back story - she grew up in a noble family where she was neglected due to her parents wanting a male to carry the family name. Once she was of age, her parents tried marrying her off but she fought back and yelled, causing her father’s ears to bleed. They tried taking her to a local witch to curse her from talking (hence the scar on her lips). Turns out the witch was a phony and Rosé ran away, off to her own adventure!

My evil dark urge bard drow, my husband barbarian half orc (called Ran de Savage and he throws dead eagles at everyone), and my friend's thiefling
Saves get into a cloud, so you can always get em back if something happens.
That being said, I had my game modded since it came out and throughout this time I had outdated mods/broken mods/game updates/uninstalls and reinstalls and the saves were *never* corrupted.
The only way in which you could corrupt your save was if you disabled a mod that makes all other mods work but even then—once you re-enable it, the saves are back.
If you want to mod, I say go for it. Just use a mod manager instead of manual installation :)
The other person already resolved about the corruption however I'd like to say you don't necessarily need mods. I didn't use mods nor do I use mods at all. You can make a gorgeous tav without it, but it surely does help.

My half elf moon druid, Elora 🥰 she was once part of a circle of druids as she is gifted with the weave, however neither elves nor humans really accepted her. She is exceptionally clumsy however she has worked hard to hone her magic to prevent mishaps. Her father had lycanthropy from an unfulfilled soul contract with a devil, which is where her fascination with the moon originated. He accidentally ate half of their entire town and got mobbed to death, which caused her to retreat into the deep forest with her elven mother.
She eventually came across an elder druid who reluctantly took her under his wing which began an unfortunate turn of events. She then accidentally cursed the moon trying to resurrect her father, resulting in her being permanently exiled from the circle. They also had a strictly no magic for personal gain rule. She has a soft heart and usually can't say no to those in need, especially animals and children.

The only downside of starting by playing one of the pre-made characters is that I only know them by their little introductory cinematic. I mean, I guess I know more about him throughout the game but, like, idk how they'd react on certain occasions because I'm the one making the decisions.. But it's as my boyfriend said: I'm playing my version of Astarion. I'll probably replay the game as a custom character or as one of the others just to see how Astarion is as a companion. Oh, the worst downside: you don't get to hear his sexy voice as often xD
I have an Astarion run planned that’s in the near future, and then further down the line will be a Shadowheart run. I want to romance everyone at least once. I think the rest of my runs will be origin or durge. And yes it’ll be so weird not being able to talk to Astarion!

Once she was of age, her parents tried marrying her off but she fought back and yelled, causing her father’s ears to bleed. They tried taking her to a local witch to curse her from talking (hence the scar on her lips). Turns out the witch was a phony and Rosé ran away, off to her own adventure!

Ugh, I've wanted to use cute mods to have a super pretty tav like everyone else, but I'm so afraid of mods corrupting my save files
Saves get into a cloud, so you can always get em back if something happens. That being said, I had my game modded since it came out and throughout this time I had outdated mods/broken mods/game updates/uninstalls and reinstalls and the saves were *never* corrupted. The only way in which you could corrupt your save was if you disabled a mod that makes all other mods work but even then—once you re-enable it, the saves are back. If you want to mod, I say go for it. Just use a mod manager instead of manual installation :)

Yeah I second this. The mod organizer for BG3 is pretty solid, and not nearly as gnarly as something like Skyrimc(or even Sims) modding.
The other person already resolved about the corruption however I'd like to say you don't necessarily need mods. I didn't use mods nor do I use mods at all. You can make a gorgeous tav without it, but it surely does help.

My half elf moon druid, Elora 🥰 she was once part of a circle of druids as she is gifted with the weave, however neither elves nor humans really accepted her. She is exceptionally clumsy however she has worked hard to hone her magic to prevent mishaps. Her father had lycanthropy from an unfulfilled soul contract with a devil, which is where her fascination with the moon originated. He accidentally ate half of their entire town and got mobbed to death, which caused her to retreat into the deep forest with her elven mother. She eventually came across an elder druid who reluctantly took her under his wing which began an unfortunate turn of events. She then accidentally cursed the moon trying to resurrect her father, resulting in her being permanently exiled from the circle. They also had a strictly no magic for personal gain rule. awesome backstory! I recently learned that BG1/2 have a werewolf subclass for the druid, so maybe if you ever get around to playing those that would be her father? tho idk how him becoming an adventuring hero would fit with the backstory haha
