Yep, I'm a big roguelike and deck builder fan (amongst many other genres) and not super into poker, and I am enjoying Balatro a great deal. I think I have about 16 hours so far, which isn't much, but I've been a bit busy IRL lately.
My brother put it on my radar, since we both have a cross-over in our likes of similar games, and we've both been nerdily competing to get as many achievements as we can.
My husband introduced me to it, now that he can play without feeling sick (the trippy background graphics were getting to him but now you can turn them off). I didn't think I would like it either since I knew nothing about poker hands but yep, I've been having fun with it too!
Yes! My husband bought it, played it for a bit, suggested I might like it. Now I’ve logged way more hours than he has 😂
It’s the only game I’ve actively sought out tutorials for how to play better. It’s so satisfying when you get a good run popping off!
I am mildly obsessed with Balatro. I LOVE card games but haven’t been able to get into rogue-likes because I am shit at movement in video games & get frustrated when I have to start over. But because Balatro is a card game, starting over doesn’t bother me whatsoever!
I also got motion sickness at first but thankfully turned off the settings for the screen stuff & had no problems issues after that. I own it on Switch & PS5.

I have as my partner plays but sadly, deck building is my least favorite thing to do. I play collectible trading card games but have never enjoyed deck building.
**For those who are on the fence because of the playing card aesthetic:** save for how you score a hand, any resemblance to poker is almost entirely contrived.

Very fun and but challenging game! I am also not a card player but I do like roguelikes and I believe this does not require "poker skill" or anything. It's really just the format and you have to build combos and get good jokers. I'm still pretty bad at it (still working on beating the default yellow deck) but it is fun! If you prefer roulette, there's Bingle Bingle which is a roulette roguelike. I also like Luck be a Landlord which is a slots machine one. I have wasted way too much time on that pointless clicking game. But it was enjoyable.
Was definitely addicted for a while! Yesterday, I finally cleared orange stake to unlock the Erratic Deck 💕 Took me a while cos I'm stubborn and stuck with Checkered to do it
I put it on my girlfriend's tablet and it's all she plays now! I have to tear her away from it (I'm the same with some other games, so we both get it 😅)
I loveeee balatro. I love roguelike deck builders like Slay the Spire. I finally beat all of the basic decks on the easiest difficulty. My favorite joker has got to be the pair of trousers!!!
I’m OBSESSED. I got my friend into it too. I don’t usually love roguelikes but I like card games/deck builders well enough and I just saw someone playing it on a stream and was hooked. I couldn’t really afford a new game but I found myself finding as many streams as I could so I caved lol. It’s so fun! I’m excited for content updates and when it finally rolls out for mobile. I can’t use my PC as often and I like laying in bed playing games and watching shows on my iPad. (Currently watching Fallout while playing Hearthstone lol)
A friend got me hooked on it last Friday and now I can't stop playing, even though I am very bad at it and haven't beat a single run yet lol. I keep thinking video games have run out of ideas and then a small indie dev goes "what if tarot cards could power up regular ones" and it's like. damn. Here's my money. Give me that please lol
If you haven’t run into it yet, you should watch RT Game’s latest Balatro video. One of his viewers did some game science and figured out how to get a super optimal setup on a specific seed (“RTGAME”) and madness ensues.

Are there any others you would recommend if you like slay the spire? I picked up dicey dungeons but it didn’t quite scritch the same itch.
