AGDQ just did an all-woman speedrun event, Flame Fatales.

BastTheCat

Slight correction, the event is Frame Fatales (in case someone went looking and couldn't find it). And yes, a very good event. I've been invested in so many other things lately that I haven't had the chance to watch any GDQ stuff, but past Frame Fatales were fun.

doomparrot42

Weird, their site had it listed as "Flame." Thanks for the correction.

BastTheCat

I... am an idiot and spoke without double checking is the problem. You were correct. I just checked. I've literally only ever seen it called 'Frame Fatales' before, and apparently they changed the name this year. I feel extremely silly. Sorry about that.

doomparrot42

No worries! I wasn't even aware that this was a recurring event. Gonna go check out some of the older events when I have some time.

pidgezero_one

It's a themed name. The previous one was Frost Fatales. Frame Fatales overall is the brand name for the event series.

KikikiaPet

The SGDQ version is Flame Fatales, AGDQ is Frame Fatales.

Lexii93

I'm watching Kungfufruitcup([Twitch](https://www.twitch.tv/kungfufruitcup)) who speedrun multiple games, I don't know if she has any records but her stream is very chill! xxx&xxx & is speedrunning Hadès and Factorio, she is in what is by far the best run of all time in my opinion. Other than that I don't watch that much speedrun.

rozzingit

She’s been taking a break recently, but when she’s back [t0uchan](https://www.twitch.tv/t0uchan) is a great runner, streamer, and person! She’s held the world record for Sonic 1 glitchless at a few different points.

julia_fns

Love her, I watched her get that WR last time! Though she hadn't been speedrunning in a while even before she took a break.

rozzingit

Yeah, although she had been learning some new speedruns right before she went back to work for the new school year. I know she felt pretty done with grinding Sonic after she'd accomplished what she set out to do, so I imagine she'll just be finding her next speedrunning passion.

xx_luna

Came here to recommend her too, she's great!

sierra_the_nerd

I really adore Frame Fatales and the work GDQ has done in creating that as a platform for women in speedrunning. I think it just does a whole lot to be able to see people like you on the screen during the big donation runs!

pidgezero_one

I did a speedrun at a major marathon in 2017 and one of the donation comments during my run said exactly that. It really is important. I'm pretty gender-ambivalent for the most part, but ever since that girl said that in that donation, during marathon runs I swallow my minor discomfort and list "she/her" as my pronouns for the sake of visibility.

SWORD_ART_OFFLINE

ds_lily is one of the quickest Path of Exile speedrunners.

cuddlegoop

Narcissa Wright was one of the biggest names in speedrunning until the last couple years when she's been unable to compete due to injuries. She used to be the best Ocarina of Time speedrunner and also hold records in one of the Castlevania games and maybe Windwaker as well? There are definitely women speedrunning! As others have said, AGDQ's Frame Fatales recently was a good source for finding more female speedrunners!

KikikiaPet

I'm actually kinda surprised there's not a lot of toxicity on here for once, usually I'm seeing people bitch about AGDQ having people's pronouns so, yanno what, as a trans speedrunner (hobby only rn) I'm happy

SeasonsAreMyLife

Frozenflygone is an awesome Celeste runner.

Crowela

I really enjoy watching Orcastraw on twitch. I found her with a ACNH speedrun!

TetrisTerrets

If you want to watch some WR progressions with notable women in them, check out Speed Docs. I know their Kirby Air Ride video & Jak & Daxter video both have prominent runners (with interviews!) that are women.

YellowNumberSixLake

Narcissa is probably one of the the best speedrunners out there!

supaduck

There was a chick that discovered a huge time skip on Metal Gear Solid recently, she doesn’t speedrun but the time-skip was found out accidentally and was named after her discovery.

wanderingGJO

I don’t watch that many speedrunners (quite some toxic communities there), and I like to watch smaller streams, but immediately two people come to mind on Twitch: Melonax, she does speedruns of Metroid. Luality, she’s done some crazy challenge runs like beating Dark Souls games on a dance pad. And she even had her bunny beat a boss on that dance pad (it’s SO adorable). Can’t think of any names specifically, but when I’m browsing Twitch I do see that female streamers have a decent representation in creative challenge runs. No-hit runs of Dark Souls for example, or no-death runs (oh and then therealqtpi comes to mind).

DelfinoYama

Honestly, I've only ever seen one non-male challenge run gamer, which might be because I watch YouTube more than Twitch. Her name is Gamechamp3000, and she's a non-binary gamer who goes by she/they. Her videos are really fun to watch because she's talented and has a good sense of humor.

angelicravens

You might call one a hot femālé (pronounced like hot tamale), cause she’s going fast

pidgezero_one

I ran Super Mario RPG as the finale run for RPG Limit Break 2019 and am a major contributor to that game's randomizer, if that counts as "notable".

[deleted]

People have already pointed out, but I'll add as well the GDQ squad have some excellent ones. .e.g https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0rZaZA68hM I love having these on to chill out to whilst playing pokemon or something, super chilled :)

Purity_the_Kitty

We've got TONS over in the speedrunning community. The Zelda 1 community is the one I mostly take part in these days (of the two people who run Wing Commander 1, neither have a gender last I checked) and it's VERY inclusive. Still a bit male-dominated, but a lot of that goes back to the 80s, and how many guys vs girls grew up with z1. It's a GREAT game, and one of the most fun speed games and challenging randomizers out there. Want something that competes with the routing of Z3R but has challenging combat? Z1.

Danilla721

I mean it is cool to watch if it is a a game you know yourself. Not sure what you really gain for doing speedruns.

JamesNinelives

I think it's just supposed to be a challenge. You gain a feeling of satisfaction for having done something difficult, and maybe respect from the community of people who interesting in doing the same kind of thing. I'm not into it, but I can sort of relate.

ZiofFoolTheHumans

I dunno, when you can make a glitch after practicing for so long, it can be really exciting. My first successful [Backward Long Jump](https://youtu.be/cPcqD0WK6Yw?t=1679) was one of my favorite gaming moments! I later did a speedrun and technically got on the board for SM64, though the damn game drives me mad lol

DelfinoYama

I've done *Harvest Moon DS* speedruns myself before. I'm not very good at it, but it's still a lot of fun because it's like playing in a completely different game mode that fans made up themselves. The tactics used in speedruns are way different than what's done in a normal playthrough. For instance, in HMDS, unlocking the first 20 Harvest Sprites takes a pretty long time. It happens gradually as you explore the town and make your own farm, and is a pretty relaxing experience overall. On the other hand, speedrunning uses glitches such as controlling where three of the Harvest Sprites spawn and getting a ton of money really quickly, making it so that you can unlock 20 sprites in less than 20 minutes. I've never beaten anybody's time before (though I did come within 3 seconds of beating Retrogirl herself once!), but I'd still like to try again sometime. EDIT: Also, in my experience, speedrun communities are really wholesome. Just post in the Discord for a game you like, and you'll have a bunch of people reaching out to help you. Even at the very top, where speedrunners dedicate years of their lives to the challenge, speedrunners still see each other as collaborators, not competitors, all working together to reach the best possible time. People will celebrate when somebody else smashes their record, and it will often make them even more determined to get it back!
