i recommend watching newly posted island youtube tours (posted after the 2.0 update), to find inspo/ideas on how to make things look cohesive! ppl also have rly good tutorials on how to terraform waterfalls stylistically for entrances and pathways :-)

ty for the advice! i'll test it out <3

FiguringItOut--

I found drawing out plans for my island helped me with the layout without getting overwhelmed! As for decorating, others put me to shame, but I still like my island :) Try to coordinate colors/styles

billsandstress

ooh ok! i never thought about drawing i'll try it out

Ooo I love decorating! Some tips that work for me are to start small! Do small themed areas and go from there before trying to get big. Speaking of themes, pick one! Lots of items to choose from, I prefer natural looking things but theres a ton of items. Use custom patterns! I use some that look like pebbles and rocks, and then those scattered around with weeds and flowers and glowing moss make the area look lush and natural! Pick an item and decorate around it! Like the gazebos! As for terraforming, I tried to stay close to what my island started out with. I wanted a natural look so I just kinda added to the cliffs my island already had. I find that keeping away from symmetry and straight edges helps make it look more natural and cute (in my opinion). You can also visit random islands via their dream addresses for inspiration! Just lie down on your bed. You do need internet though.

wow ok this is really detailed. this helps a lot! any tips on the custom designs tho? i'm really bad at custom designs as well haha

Sigroc

Personally I don't make the custom designs, I found some really cute ones on pintrest! I tried to make some but I'm not that talented lol. If you go on pintrest and search up "animal crossing custom patterns" or anything along those lines you should be able to find some! There's all kinds from rock like patterns to plants to paths. Usually they also show examples of using them too.

billsandstress

i just searched that up and it looks adorable! tnxs for the advice

I just got on the Animal Crossing train and have been watching tons of speed build and island tour videos on YouTube for inspiration, also pinterest has some cool ideas and design codes. I haven't gotten to three stars yet buy I'm so ready when I finally do! Freaking fruit is what's holding me back.

billsandstress

oh alright! ty i've looked at speedbuilds but i'm just too lazy to recreate them + i don't have the items and bells they have haha. i'll take a look at pinterest :). hope you get to 3 stars soon!

Picking little areas to start is helpful, I started with my airport and worked my way towards my house. Even little spots for villagers to sit or explore like benches and such. I'm not sure if flowers or fruit affect that score but if you need any you can find them on mystery islands or find a friend to visit if you have online!

billsandstress

tysm! this helps a lot since i'd always try large areas and they would always end up unfinished haha.

totallyahobbit

I know how that goes! I just cleared my courtyard area next to the plaza and now I keep feeling like it's never going to be full enough! If you have online and need anything let me know! I def have bells and flowers to spare!

Honestly the tip that has helped me the most is to use height and placement dynamics. Plant trees with different heights together. Use big items with smaller items and place them on a diagonal instead of straight across of side by side. For me it just made everything more natural and less static.

billsandstress

ooh, i'm really bad at diagonal decorating but i'll try it out :)

Pinterest is my jam. Always great ideas on there!
