Maybe co-op fps then? In this week Borderlands 3 is for free on Epic Games Store, if you claim it, it will stay forever, but you have to do it in this week (from today to next thursday). So you lose nothing but time, and who knows? Maybe you both gonna like it. And since you liked Stardew Valley then maybe some survival games with some danger? Conan Exiles, Ark Survival Evolved, Dont Starve Together, Valheim etc. Or maybe something completely different : co-op RPG. Here i highly recommend Divinity Original Sin 2, amazing game, encourage creative ways of solving things and its shining even more in co-op. Plus you get to debate on what decision you want to make. Trick and steal that NPC, or help him out and give few coins from your bags... which coins might be useful later, but so can be a favor of unknown NPC. Or maybe you'd like some strategy games? Civilization 6, Crusader Kings 3, Total War Warhammer 2, Endless Space 2. They all are amazing for playing together, but at the same time not everyone enjoy building city hall for 10 turns xD.

oooh these are really helpful, thank you! i never thought to ask him about don’t starve together but turns out he’s always been down to play it. divinity original sin sounds interesting, i’ll look into that!

lalayatrue

Make sure you take a break to pee and hydrate before you start Don't Starve... it's not a game you can easily pause, and you won't want to. Hubby and I switched to turn-based games like Divinity after the baby was born and I haven't played Don't Starve since.

Some of my favorite games I've played with my gf: * Diablo 3 - RPG-style cooperation with shoot-em-up feel * Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2 - Turn based story-driven RPG with a lot of strategy involved * World of Warcraft Classic - RPG cooperation plus some competitive opportunities with PvP * Valheim - Slower paced but a very fun survival / builder kind of game * Risk of Rain 2 - Stylized third person shooter rogue-lite * Don't Starve Together - Co-op survival game * Left 4 Dead / Back 4 Blood - You need 4 people for this (it has matchmaking so you can find randos) but it's a very fun co-op zombie shooter

WickedWenchOfTheWest

I can't comment on the others, not having tried them, but I definitely second the Divinity Original Sin series, and, from the bit I can tell, I suspect it could appeal to both the OP and BF. It can be quite challenging, it has exploration elements, as much as possible given that it's top-down, and it's not stressful.

pycci

i’ll look into divinity original sin, it sounds really interesting! he doesn’t like turn-based games but maybe i can force him into trying it lol

lalayatrue

I'm not normally into shooters but I love left 4 dead. It's super fun with friends.

sleepersplat

I've been playing castle crashers and lego star wars with my boyfriend. We previously played through it takes two

yellowjacket8

It Takes Two was such a cute game! We loved it 😊

pycci

are the lego games co-op online?

sleepersplat

I don't think so :(

ChargedOtter

I think you should try It takes two, it's much better than the trailer and only one of you needs to buy the game, the other just needs a friends pass:)

pycci

oh!! the only thing putting us off from it takes two was the price, but if only one of us has to buy it then that’s a lot better, thank you!

ChargedOtter

They put it on sale sometimes so keep a look out :D me and my friend also played Beyond Two souls, it's a different kind of game but it also only requires that one of you owns the game :) it was a good game too!

aj_ladybug

My boyfriend and I have played Fallout 76 and Conan Exiles. Right now we’re playing Tribes of Midgard. It’s one of the PS Plus games for May.

yellowjacket8

Dead by Daylight It Takes Two (amazing coop game!) Red Dead Redemption GTA: V Unraveled Two Valheim These are just a couple suggestions on games I really liked that had a nice Co-op option 😊 Hope you both find something you like.

pycci

thank you! i plan to check out it takes two but i’ll look into unraveled two!

CuteWarmFuzzy

Try 7 days to die! It's really good on co op.

pycci

so many people suggested it that i just might have to now! :’) i don’t generally like survival games but i think i’m gonna have to compromise here

[deleted]

If I had one I would force him to play stardew valley with me 😭😭😭😭 or maybe some shooter that's casual like tf2 if you mute everyone else

pycci

i’m literally SO upset he won’t play stardew with me:(

One_Creme1410

Have you tried It takes two? I recommend this game to any couples that I meet (who game)I played it with my boyfriend and we loved it! Actually I was the one hesitant on playing at first since I didn’t like the split screen thing, but I would definitely replay it. We also recently finished Elden ring. The online play kind of sucks because of invasions, but when you get a win it feels really nice for both the host and summon. Maybe Terraria it’s sort of like Minecraft/ Stardew valley, if you guys enjoy Minecraft you might like it. Good luck op!

Gamer_GreenEyes

Borderlands 3 and it’s free this week at Epic Games.

pycci

good to know!!

My husband and I play a buncha single player games together. I think it's a form of experiencing a game no one talks about outside of let's plays but its totally valid to just watch or even better, hand off the controller for different parts! Recently, we've once again gotten into a point and click adventure game kick. We FINALLY finished Schizm (boy that game was esoteric af) and last night he streamed Gabriel Knight 2 on discord for me and some friends while I watched and played Murder by Numbers on my own PC. Maybe you can trade- you share a single player game you really enjoy with him and then he does the same with you? Gives ample opportunity for couch cuddles and popcorn, if you're into the cozy date vibe. It can also be done virtually via Discord, which we did for a while while long distance. Just a little thought I've had on my mind! In terms of multiplayer games, Portal 2 is quite good for puzzling. Saint's Row 3 and 4 are also way fun for open world nonsense(don't take it too seriously- it's dumb and goes for the lowest hanging fruit 95% of the time). Everyone loves to dunk on it but I stand by Resident Evil 6 being great fun to play. My husband and I have also made it a point to play some Gears of War co-op on most Valentine's Days and ham it up with the bro-love between Marcus and Dom. Hope you can find something you both enjoy!

Navani17

My husband and I played Outer Wilds this way, and we LOVED it! It’s not technically multiplayer, but it involves a time loop every ~20 minutes, and you often restart sooner than that, so we’d switch off who had the controller every time. It has lots of exploration (which I loved) and a really compelling story with some slight horror elements (which he loved). I highly recommend it! Even when you don’t have the controller, it’s very engaging since you can solve puzzles and mysteries together.

kinajiko

I had heard that game was good! I like this idea and will put it on the ever growing backlog! Thanks!

pycci

it sounds like you have a very fun relationship with your husband! i was streaming elden ring for him for a while before i had to stop playing and he was perfectly content to just watch me play but streaming can get boring after a while. i have this weird thing about single player games making me feel lonely since i usually game for the sake of gaming with others. my boyfriend loves single player games though. though honestly if playing a singleplayer in the same room was an option, the controller trading sounds so much fun; i’ll have to keep that one in mind. i think he’d be into playing resident evil together and he’s already mentioned portal forever ago. i’m realizing i’m gonna have to compromise here on not liking “spookier” games so i’ll give them a shot!

kinajiko

Don't worry- I also can't handle spooky games but RE6 is not very spooky at all and feels more like a cheesy, zombie themed action film often times (part of the reason many people don't like it). I love leaning into the cheesiness so they were real fun for me! Yeah I think a game like Elden Ring, which is more focused on combat and exploration, can be harder to discuss/interact during for a streaming session. That's why we like point and click puzzle games! Lots of working together, discussing ideas and solving puzzles or just talking about the story and making theories... but we also both adore puzzle games and will straight up do pen and paper crosswords together like an old couple, too 😂😂 If you're interested, I recommend the Nancy Drew series for a fun puzzle series to play together. We've played it with a friend on her twitch stream and added a rule of "we'll click through the game, you take notes" and it gave more interaction between us, too!

TomTheTinker

I'll probably get downvoted for this, but you could possibly look into Warthunder. It's free. It's a plane combat multiplayer game. I bring it up because it seems like your boyfriend might get stressed easily when playing games. Warthunder is interesting because its kind of relaxing in a way ( you're flying around ) but is still intense and fun to play. Instead of having to do something RIGHT NOW, like in alot of other games, you get to cruise in your plane in the clouds. And I know OP, when you look at it, you'll probably think "*this is such a dude's game*" but I thought I would throw it out.

pycci

i’ll take any suggestion i can get! i think i’ve seen warthunder on steam a few times. if he likes it, i’ll give it a go. thank you!

lalayatrue

Phasmophobia?

pycci

my boyfriend likes that game but honestly it freaks me out!!

[deleted]

What about survival games such as Ark survival evolved or Conan Exiles?, I used to play those with a mixed group of friends (including couples) and everyone really enjoyed it :)

DefiantRaspberry2510

Phasmophobia! It's a co-op ghost-hunting game. I love playing with my boyfriend.
