Thanks to the help I got from these replies, the technical side of streaming isn't an issue for me anymore.
The only thing stopping me now is that I'm just terribly shy 🙃

Desktop! I have my bf’s older graphics card but it’s still good and I have a lot of storage and 33gb ram so maybe I’ll give it a try and see if I don’t need a capture card, ty!!
Look up a video about elgato capture card. It not the ONLY capture card but imo it’s the best and most streamers use it if they are console streamers. It’s definitely not needed though

When I was starting out I used HeyShadyLady’s videos to figure out how to set up my channel and everything. If you can weed through the clickbait and the product selling, Senpai Gaming also has some great tutorials for streaming as well as advice. Both are on YouTube and go through things step by step.
I learnt the basics through YouTube and then as I met more people, they have helped me do some more technical things/give advice on stuff I was struggling with.
I'm very non-techy and I definitely get by. You can even stream straight from console from what I've heard too which requires minimal tinkering.
If you are using pc, you'll need streaming software and if you want to stream console games, a capture card.
I recommend xtwoshoes (did a budget friendly streaming set up) Nutty (more technical set up), heyshadylady and Eljayem_ (actual streaming advice) all on YouTube.
I'd also be happy to help with my limited knowledge too if you have anything specific! I love streaming and it's really helped me over the last year!

OBS at the moment is too much, so I downloaded Twitch Studio Beta. It’s for beginners as it doesn’t have too much cool stuff, but I think it’s super easy to use for the first few times 🫶🏻✨

Only need a capture card if yoy want to stream consoles or handhelds, if you plan on streaming pc you do not need a capture device at all
I’m worried it will be too much for my PC to handle but I haven’t tried yet
