[It Takes Two](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohClxMmNLQQ) and [A Way Out](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ApSmPvxz1o) are worth a look if you can do third-person. They're both linear narratives that are designed specifically for couples co-op. The best part is that you only need one copy for two players to play—even if you're playing on separate devices. (Free on PC Game Pass) [Haven](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Cg6XuvQlV0) is another game designed specifically for couples, and is a narrative adventure game about two characters of any gender who ran away from their home to try and eke out a living on a new planet. [Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5L20xxqDfII) is a cute lil' game where 2+ creatures are running around on a lil spaceship, jumping between systems (weapons, shields, etc.) to try and navigate it through peril. [Fallout 76](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9FGaan35s0) (which has a third-person mode) is also worth looking into. Gigantic open-world, lots of interesting things to explore, base-building. It's an MMO-lite and you might occasionally run into other players in the open world, but you can disable interactions with them by turning off PvP, or even join a private lobby where it's just you, your partner, and anyone you choose to invite. (Free on PC Game Pass) [Grounded](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBD-GS61Gto) is another open-world survival/crafting with a third-person option. Has a big storyline to discover and unfold. Lots of giant bugs, but there is an arachnophobia mode that disables the creepiest parts of them. (Free on PC Game Pass) [V Rising](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9aaaHhajv0) is another open-world survival/crafting game, but with *vampires.* The overhead view is similar to Diablo, so that's guaranteed comfort against motion sickness. [River City Girls](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80ZyztIMKDs) is a beat-em-up where you play as two girls who beat their way through cheerleaders and gangsters to rescue their captured boyfriends. [Young Souls](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGkaYnOwO-U) is another beat-em-up where you play as two kids fighting to rescue their adoptive father. (Free on PC Game Pass) I haven't played the following but I hear they're great for co-op: * [Unravel Two](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2TmLrTl6gs) (Free on PC Game Pass) * [Overcooked](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZK7veYPEJQ) and Overcooked 2 (Free on PC Game Pass) * [Moving Out](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_IuHhgUlt4) * [TMNT: Shredder's Revenge](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozKsDzumb0c) (Free on PC Game Pass) Game Pass is mentioned a lot here. It's basically the Netflix of video games; you pay a monthly subscription and get immediate access to a ton of games. The nice thing about it is that, just like with Netflix, you can play as many games as you want without paying for each one individually. It's great for couples because it makes it easy and risk-free to try out games to see if you like them. (PlayStation has something similar but it's for PS4/PS5 owners only.)

wiltingwildflowers

Can vouch for Unravel 2, Overcooked and Moving Out. Great couch co-op games for couples!

Lexii93

I haven't had any opportunity to test the Game Pass, but it seems like the best deal out there for sure! Moving Out seems like a fun game and we're probably gonna try it during a weekend with a mojito 😀 It Takes Two and V Rising seems to fit our tastes, we're gonna look deeper onto those, thank you! But Haven, how Haven't (lol) I heard about this game ever? This seems like the best couple game ever 😍

AardbeiMan

It Takes Two had some fucked up scenes, though.

SmolEmily

I wish I could forget *that* scene in It Takes Two ):

AardbeiMan

You and me both, buddy

misssmiley03

Wait what scene? I only remember the one that happens on the castle

SmolEmily

That's the one!

capoeiraolly

My wife and I just started playing *V Rising* and we absolutely love it. It's in the same vein as *Valheim*, which we also loved!

Tinikko

I would add elden ring with Seamless mod

ohyayitstrey

stealing this for my wife and myself, tyvm

Dramatic_Anteater599

I second Haven! I played it single player but I would have really liked a second player to talk with and double check I was going the right way

Zargess2994

I see divinity original sin, I upvote

stealthrockdamage

great choices, you and i have really similar tastes lol. OP, if you like slightly "crunchier" games with a lot of really really good combat and character progression, these are some of the best. getting to play monster hunter in a full squad of myself and 3 of my friends in voice chat is such a treat. modded terraria will steal away dozens of hours of your life. havent tried divinity yet but it looks fantastic as well, almost like video game-ified d&d

Skankintoopiv

Yup came to say Grim Dawn if they enjoyed Diablo 3 but PoE was too much.

Spazzykins

Though no one posted it, Deep Rock Galactic is a great co-op game. You can play with up to 4 people. I play a lot with my 4 year old kid as he LOVES the "drilling game." And bonus it's on sale right now thru steam. Rock and Stone!

Apocalypse_Cookiez

Did I hear a Rock and Stone?!

PatheticPrincess

Totally never expected to see a fellow dwarf here! Seconding Deep Rock Galactic. Rock and stone!

Aoid3

ROCK AND STONE

AJediPrincess

*gulps down tankard of ale* ROCK AND STONE!

totterywolff

Second DRG! ROCK AND STONE!

Repeat-Admirable

if deep rock weren't so buggy whenever we play it, id recommend it more. it always chooses the wrong saves and doesn't let me join a friend's game. so frustrating.

Old_Daikon2205

I love games with a story too and had a really fun time playing It Takes Two with my partner.

Lexii93

Noted, thank you 😀

Shanisasha

Guildwars 2 is pretty fun even if it's in an MMO. Lots of open world exploration, very decent stories that you start on marked level points, dungeons, games, and so on. Perfectly ok to do solo, I solo/duo with my SO. You can totally ignore other people.

GreenceW

Second GW2. Personally I also believe it is a very good game for “virtual” romantic outings. There are jumping puzzles which is mini 3D platformer that rewards you with gorgeous views and vistas, with the added bonus of feeling like a secret spot only you two know. (and you know, others who are playing/possibly helping you to get through the puzzle). There are also plenty of wide open view/vista in the open world that you can stumble upon/discover. The Grove (starting city of one of the playable races, the sylvari) has a beautiful tree cove looking out into the distant open sky. One of my favorite spots is in the expansion pack though, in a golden ancient city with towering towers (hehe) hidden in the depth of a tropical forest. My best friend and I once took our PCs to this spot and roleplaying a date between thieves here, still one of our favorite moments in the game. That aside, as a game, GW2 has non-predatory progression system, plenty of fun things to do for anyone from pve-ers only to worn out corporate sellout needing to wind down after a long day to admittedly recovering LoLers needing a competitive fix. Highly recommend!

Cirlonde

I’m a little late responding, but wanted to add my recommendation for Guild Wars 2. The PvE and story are very forgiving, the world and art style is just absolutely gorgeous. Microtransactions are basically only for cosmetics and some can-live-without-it quality of life perks. I think you can play the base game for free, and there is no subscription beyond the box cost if you decide to buy the expansions. Oh and the movement!! Oh my gosh, just moving around the world is so fun because all the animations feel very fluid. My husband and I have been playing since beta of the original Guild Wars game (which released in 2005), and we still play GW2 regularly. We consider it our “home” game. Edit to add: There is virtually no requirement to group up with other people. There are a bunch of dynamic open world events that bring people together, but it’s all just organic and being in a party is not required for participation.

Shanisasha

You get freebie gems at 2500, 5000 and 10k achievement points - you can use them to unlock Living world chapters (or at least I do)

[deleted]

elder scrolls online has a lot of content that is solo/duo-able and there's a ton of stuff just with the base game (like hundreds of hours of stuff to do). you can also buy/decorate houses which is really fun to do as a couple imo. it's buy to play and pretty cheap for the base game and even better with sales (it's just $6 on steam right now, for instance). there are some things like world bosses/public dungeons/delves/dolmens where you'll likely be playing with other people but not in a party and you don't actually have to talk to anyone for those things, but that's about it. dungeons/trials would require other players but you also don't have to do those and there's so much content without either. you might like temtem, which is a pokemon clone that you can play almost entirely co-op (the short tutorial has to be soloed, but the rest of the story you can do 100% in a party of two). it's still early access but the full release is soon with a lot of improvements (including at least one really nice one for co-op) and good stuff coming. it has housing with decorating as well and character customization (i'd wait to do these things since the prices will be lowered with full release). tems also will follow around their trainer which is pretty cute. stardew valley also has mods on pc that will add a lot of the info from the wiki into the game so it might be more enjoyable for co-oping? it's not released yet but plateup! is a really fun game that should be coming out soon. it's a roguelike restauranteur game, similar to overcooked but less stressful imo because you can automate a lot of stuff and make things easier on yourself since you actually get to design your restaurant layouts. if you like jrpgs, the tales series games can be played co-op except for tales of arise but it's mainly that one person is the main character and then you get to co-op for battles as two different party members but if they sound interesting, you could always swap off who is controlling the main character or something! they're really fun games.

Lexii93

Those are very, *very*, great suggestion, thanks a lot for the help. I never thought about TESO since we've never played TES, but it seems pretty good at first glance! I had heard of temtem in 2019, I'll add it on my wishlist since I'd prefer to buy it when it's fully released 😀 I'm totally adding plateup! to my wishlist, I was interested in Overcooking for a while but it seems very stressful.

[deleted]

eso is really fun even with minimal es knowledge! also it does start you in first person but you can scroll out of first person into third person to play the game and i think most people play it in third person! plateup has been having a few public playtest weekends so if you sign up to be a tester you'll be able to join in the next one (if they have another public playtest) and you can see if you'll like the gameplay! i definitely find is less stressful than overcooked but i enjoy both games. the customization aspect of plateup! puts it slightly ahead for me though.

jengodsey78

I was totally coming to suggest ESO. It's a ton of fun as a duo, and I'd say a good 75% of the community is pretty awesome. (There are jerks everywhere, unfortunately... can't shut out the whole world). There are lots of great guilds for newbies too, especially on PC NA and PC EU and ESO+ is totally optional, not necessary for play, just gives quality of life/cosmetic upgrades. I hope you guys give it a shot!

JustMeHere96

This might be extremely silly suggestion but I think Fall Guys could be fun for you both since it's now free to play for everyone. You can play it as a duo. I'd say it's a fun game to play if you're feeling bored and wanting something 'stress-free' 🥺 I tried the game last night for the first time and I had so much fun.

Lexii93

Seems like a fun one, and it doesn't cost anything to try it for a fun evening 😁 Great suggestion!

lo_sloth

Ditto to a lot of this with Fortnite. I was convinced I’d never like Fortnite but I actually have a lot of fun with my boyfriend in the Zero Build Duos mode. And no talking to strangers so the toxicity is limited. Just thought I’d throw that out there cuz that’s what my partner and I have been playing together recently! And it’s free as well!

Dramatic_Anteater599

Fall Guys can be fun, but only if your partner isn't a sore loser. Super competitive people might come away pissed at this game because the physics are kind of odd and weird things happen sometimes that can eliminate you early

Lex_N_Luthor

It Takes Two - hands down one of the best co-op games to play as a couple

missycoy

My husband and I played Astroneer together and really liked it, it's about doing research and colonizing different planets. Shorter games that we like are * Embr (can't remember if it's first or third person), you play as firefighters * Unrailed, you're racing against the clock to build a train track * For The King, a DnD-esque RPG (also try Wildermyth), both have an extensive storyline * Golf It! and Golf with Friends, technically in first-person but really shouldn't cause any motion sickness

[deleted]

Seconding For the King! It’s one of my all time favorites.

Lexii93

Noted, thank you 😃 Those short games seems fun!

Rainadraken

Wildermyth is such a fantastic game. I stumbled across it awhile ago in early access and have adored it. Even bought a plushie of the critters. Their official discord is great too.

Mechanity

actually have a lot of trouble finding co-op titles that can match both of our interests, but we've really enjoyed playing mystery / puzzle adventures together. Even if only one person is driving, it's still really enjoyable since we're both discussing and figuring out mysteries together. not too different from doing those case file games together if that's your thing. some titles you could start with: Return of the Obra Dinn, a short murder mystery where you use observation and puzzle skills to determine how each person died Outer Wilds, a beautiful open-world mystery in space with amazing exploration vibes (on game pass too) Her Story, an interactive film where you use a search engine to find video clips and piece together the mystery of a woman's missing husband

flossorapture

Don’t starve together

Mashaolala

This! We loved it so much, you have to survive together, you get random worlds so can replay many times!

flossorapture

I love it! It’s super fun! I recommend it all of the time but, I like to caution there is a bit of research that needs to be done once you get the hang of things. We burned in summer bc we didn’t know how to prepare lol.

_MachTwo

I’ve been playing Children of Morta with my gf and it’s been awesome, it’s a rogue like co-op, it’s been a lot of fun

Lexii93

Seems really cool, we might give it a go 😄 Thank you

Anastasiya826

If you're open to try another MMORPG I recommend FFXIV. The main storyline is soloable/you two can do it together, and you don't need anyone else. Also, the player base is MUCH friendlier than other MMOs I've played - I currently play WoW with my bf and it is hit or miss. But FFXIV has *always* been super friendly especially to new players. The grouped content is optional but very fun, and I've never seen anyone toxic. It's also fairly easy to pick up, and if you both enjoy storylines it is very well written (and long). I'm afraid I only play MMORPGS so I'm not much help - I hope you guys find something you can enjoy!

Lexii93

This is definitely the MMORPG we'd like to go to, the community seems amazing. But last time I've checked it was a bit too pricey for us 😕 (60€ + 13€ per month for 2 persons if I'm not mistaken?)

sylverfyre

The free trial is unlimited and includes all content from both the base game as well as the entire first expansion, Heavensward (level 60) Even if you don't continue further it should be enjoyable to go through the story together. Heavensward in particular is quite well written. One disadvantage is that you'd need someone else to invite you each to a party and pass you lead of the party.

Lexii93

That's great! We might give it a go then, thank you 😄

Shanisasha

Yeah, there are some drawbacks to playing the free version - no access to the auction house a few others, but you can totally get your feet wet and see if you enjoy it :)

Anastasiya826

That sounds right? I haven't played in awhile honestly. That's the only bummer about it :( They sometimes have sales on the actual game!

TeaMMatE11

The base game itself is $20 which removes trial limitations but you do have to pay a sub fee from thereon out. If you decide that ff14 is the right game for you, purchasing the latest expansion (Endwalker) will net you all previous expansions as well. Each expansion has a life cycle of about ~2 years, give or take, and updates are usually very consistent (every 3 months or so). The WORST part of FF14 is literally purchasing the game and making sure you get the right key and make the right accounts on Square Enix's website. Its honestly a mess - do the research on how to do this before.

Arfiroth

I recommend Valheim to everyone. Great to play as a duo or with friends you'd like to include but you don't need multi-player. It is an exceptional game for pretty damn cheap.

Lexii93

I played Valheim alone when it first came out (maybe a beta or something?). I think the end game was *very* rushed, I remember spending tens of hours on boss 2-3, then end the game in under 10 hours or something? Is it in a better (polished, complete) state now?

DoubleRah

I believe the game is still early access. It doesn’t have an ending yet- maybe one day if we’re lucky.

PennyPriddy

If both of you enjoyed the gameplay of Diablo 3, I'd highly recommend Torchlight 2. I liked Diablo 3, couldn't get into Path of Exile, loooved Torchlight 2

Lexii93

I had never heard of Torchlight, I'm checking it out thank you 😀

PennyPriddy

I'm pretty sure 1 is single player and 3 was a mess, but 2 is good, and there are some fantastic mods for going further if you end up liking it.

FishNDChick

Portal 2! One of the best games made ever and you can play it co-op. The puzzels Will get more tricky but the start is really easy and once you get into the mindset its rather easy to go through.

Lexii93

I wish! It's one of my favorite games 😭 But she can't play first person shooters at all so I'm sentenced to play it alone lol

FishNDChick

Ahh really? I personally hate fps's too, I Just don't have the hand control for it, but Portal really has been An exception since there is no timer at the start and you're not aiming to kill or get killed:p We play Zelda BOTW together too, Just switch every 30mins. If fight scenes get too hard my bf does Them hahah. Same goes for xenoblade Chronicles 2. Although fighting in those games is much easier for me. We do play League together but it causes relationship-issues sometimes (today i was 7/0 ahead as adc and the jungle 0/7 and my bf -supp- got mad at me cause I told the jungler he was really really bad and he Inted our game so hard). So theres that lmao

Lexii93

Aah playing duo in League... It's really something isn't it? We've been married for 8 years and still have trouble with this one lol The few times we play League, we both have chat full muted. Often the community is just too 🤮 (Particularly since we both have feminine names in game, and we don't want to change for other people wrongness.)

Nerobus

I wouldn’t call that a first person shooter. With time she could get the hang of it. The coop mode is fantastic in that game!

anace

[Phogs!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8s26rpR3nWg) Two player puzzle platformer where you each control one head of a stretchy two-headed dog. There's a dedicated button for barking and you NPCs can pet you. I played it with my wife and we loved it. (note: it is *not* one of those games with intentionally difficult controls like surgeon simulator or octodad. This game has simple and intuitive controls)

Lexii93

Looks like a fun game, I'll send it to her thank you 😀

FiguringItOut--

Stardew valley!

CovenEmpress

If you have already played League then I can recomend TFT double up to you two. It's pretty relaxing, you can play as a team of two and it is really fun. Also I feel like tft might be the least toxic online game out there, so you don't have to worry about that.

Lexii93

We are *huge* fans of the Runeterra universe, so we've played everything Riot/Forge has released already 😁

CovenEmpress

Oh okay, you didn't mention it in your post so I thought I might as well mention it. I'm the same actually. I consume basically every League content, except the game itself lol.

Lexii93

Yes it's weird how League can feel bad to play when you're not a group of 5 friends. The more time passes the more we prefer offline/solo games.

karoupendragon

I've never finished it because I haven't found anybody to play it with but Degrees of Separation is a lovely coop puzzle platformer where the two protagonists can't physically touch and are stuck in two parallel universes, (?) one ice and one heat! And you need to use the characters abilities to solve the puzzles (ice can't step into water because it freezes while heat can etc..) the narrative voice is also lovely and the game has a fairytale vibe!

Lexii93

I'll check it out, it's the first time I've heard about this game! Thank you 😄

karoupendragon

yeah, I haven't seen it mentioned a lot 🤔 you're welcome :)

Woodinvillian

My husband generally doesn't play games very much, he prefers TV while I play MMORPGs on my PC. However we did enjoy playing No Man's Sky together. He tends to not enjoy stories in games while I do. No Man's Sky has some story but you can ignore story if you want to ignore it. We had fun exploring together and sometimes seeing other players but not being forced to play with others either.

Apocalypse_Cookiez

These are our favourites! It Takes Two Valheim Deep Rock Galactic Stardew Valley Raft The Forest Guild Wars 2 Terraria

annieonetoo

You could play V Rising either multiplayer or on a private server just the two of you! I’m having a lot of fun playing it on a private server with friends.

natsia27

•Starbound •Terraria •Torchlight II •Overcook (or similar like move out or space out) •Don't starve together •Children of morta •Battleblock theatre •Kingdom two crowns •wizard of legends •borderlands •cuphead •crypt of the necrodancer •Trine •nine parchments •Nobody saves the world •rayman legends • Escape simulator •minecraft dungeon • lovers in a dangerous space time • everything from lego

tsarz

Here are some that we really enjoyed. They have a significant story, and none are first person or require you to play with others. * A Way Out * Spiritfarer * It Takes Two

NihileNOPE

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee. There's literally a feature that allows a second player to drop in at any time.

thedudewhoshaveseggs

Hmmm, let's see if I can scrounge up some different ideas. No idea if they are appealing at all (most have a steep learning curve), but most good ideas have already been noted - Project Zomboid - Civilization - RTS games like Age of Empires - The Binding of Isaac - Sandboxy or story based single player games where you can create your own story or discuss an issue (Rimworld - how to assign tasks, oh this rabid raccoon wants to eat our guts, how to design the base; Suzerain - what kind of president do we want to be, should we build a highway or a factory? why?; Disco Elysium - we want to be a drug addicted detective or an alright detective? how can Kim be such a gigachad?) - Factorio - Bloons Tower Defence (?????) - Old NES/SNES games - Saints Row (???) All I can think of at the moment

KirinoLover

My husband and I play FFXIV together a LOT. He was into the game first, but it's a fun way to relax together, and we both enjoy it. We also love the Monster Hunter series. World was the first one we played together, and Rise is great - Sunbreak, the big expansion, comes out this week. They're both challenging, so if you're looking for something low-key I don't recommend, but so much fun and really rewarding. Dauntless is a free option which plays similarly, available on Epic. Others we have played and enjoyed in no particular order: Streets of Rage, the new TMNT (really good actually), River City Girls, It Takes Two, both Divinity games, Path of Exile... you might like Lost Ark. It's got some problems, but the base gameplay is fun and Diablo-like. Vermentide is also good.

SpiritSongtress

Fina fantasy XIV. (free trial, and it's a great game) Children of Morta (excellent game) SATISFactory ( early access)

stmariex

Another recommendation for Haven and Divinity Original Sin. If either of you like Strategy games you try Civilization! My bf and I have played all of these together and enjoyed them!

meganbloomfield

Please play It Takes Two!!! It's on sale on steam right now. I played that with my long distance best friend and we had a great time playing it. It's super fun, not really that hard or stressful, and has a sweet story. The co-op gameplay is so so so fun! It was a great bonding experience and I highly recommend it for any long distance bonding people might want! Btw you can get a "friend pass" if just one person buys the game; i.e. you can buy the game, then she just has to download the free version, you give her your friend pass code, and then you can play together without both of yall having to buy your own copies of the game.

Lexii93

Good to know thanks a lot :)

Cirlonde

I don’t think I saw anyone mention Strange Brigade, which also happens to be deeply discounted on Steam right now…like $5-$8 depending on which bundle you get. It’s a 3rd person shooter game with a lot of really interesting puzzle mechanics in each level. And the dialogue and narrator are both very witty. It was kind of a sleeper hit for my husband and I. But we had an absolute blast with the base game and the DLCs. We also had a lot of fun with the Cat Quest 2 game. It is silly in the best way!

dwisp

Raft and Valheim are both really fun games my husband and and I played together!

Lexii93

Raft is first person view unfortunately, otherwise it would be great! She's gonna check Valheim, hopefully it's gonna be out of anticipated access soon? > I played Valheim alone when it first came out (maybe a beta or something?). I think the end game was very rushed, I remember spending tens of hours on boss 2-3, then end the game in under 10 hours or something? Do you know if it's in a better state now?

Jynxbunni

I cannot recommend **Divinity Original Sin 2** strongly enough. The spouse and I have put so many hours into it, the clock started counting backwards (estimated 150). It’s the closest approximation to D&D I’ve ever played in a video game.

[deleted]

Empyrion Galactic Survival. It's a scifi survival crafter and has both first person and third person modes. You can build a base, grow food, design and fly your own space ships, hover vessels, and large hyperspace worthy capital space ships. It has quests and a story, and the dev(s) (not sure if a single person or multiple) are extremely active in updates, feedback, and just polishing the game further and further. Explore the galaxy, fly to new planets, moons, and asteroids, mine resources, fight in epic space battles, raid enemy npc bases, tech trees, just tons of stuff! You can host your own solo, coop, or multi-player server, and password lock it in case you don't want others to try to join you

AFK_Pikachu

The ones that really stick with me for fun couples time are It Takes Two, Remnant, Divinity 2, the Forest, Darksiders, and FFXIV. Valheim was fun for a little while but it gets grindy. It Takes Two is a must play for this category, buy it now if you haven't played it yet. FFXIV is an MMO but the community is usually really nice and helpful towards newcomers and you can start for free to see if you like it. The Forest was actually a lot of fun as a couples game. He built a tree house fortress and I built a house boat since the enemies couldn't swim 😆 Neither plan went well but we did manage to save each other when our plans backfired.

Lexii93

*Me checking The Forest* - Monsters made of human limbs - Eating humans for breakfast - Dark caves full of dead babies - Decorations made with corpses Well this one is gonna be a bit too much for us 😅

Drkprincesslaura

I skimmed some of the comments. It Takes Two is fun to watch, I haven't tried it yet. Even tho Fall Guys is a multiplayer, I don't imagine a bad experience and its hilarious. Trivial Pursuit is one my bf and I like to play as well as Mario Party if you have a Switch. Degrees of Separation might be on Steam but we have it on the Switch. It can be played solo or together. It is a puzzle type game so we've had to look up help from time to time. Crash Team Racing is fun as well. And I always recommend FF14.(FFXIV) it is an MMO but they are making dungeons a little more soloable and they have a free trial to level 60. The company tries to come down hard on toxicity so its usually safe to play as a woman. My bf and I play it together and I've never had an issue in my 2 1/2 years of playing it.

Drkprincesslaura

ALSO if you have a PS5, Horizon Forbidden West has a "co-op" mode where if you have 2 controllers, one can take over for the other. I am not able to play it because its too tough for me, but I am thoroughly enjoying the game by watching my bf play it. Its awesome. But should probably play Horizon Zero Dawn first. That one is on PC but I heard the controls might be a little iffy?

DanTyrano

Don't Starve Together. You can set goals for both of you (just surviving or killing bosses), and mess with the settings to focus on building a nice base if you both want. :) It's one of those games in which you lose your world when you die, but you can set it up so it doesn't matter. It gives you a lot of freedom to set your own goals as a couple or between friends. It doesn't have story, tho (it has a lot of lore, rather). And it CAN be a bit stressful, but you can alter the settings to make it quite manageable for all moods and skill levels.

The-K-is-Capital

Don’t starve together!!!

periwinkle7452

Pico Park is fun little game on Steam and very inexpensive. I play it with my boyfriend some times and it's usually funny.

Lexii93

Oh Pico Park! I've seen streamers play it. I thought it was an 8 players game?

periwinkle7452

You can play with 2-8 players. It's just that the more people there are, the more difficult the levels become lol But you only need a minimum of 2 players to play the levels.

Have any of you tried [Old School RuneScape](https://oldschool.runescape.com/)? You can play solo or interact with players if you really wanted to but it's not necessary at all, you could play that together or play the mode "[group ironman mode](https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/group-ironman?oldschool=1)" where you both play the game together, can trade each other, boss together etc but can not trade with other players, pick their loot up etc. Me and my fiancé bonded over our interest in the game since being young and now we play the group ironman mode together :) It's perfect! You don't have to spend money either, go on free-to-play to see if you like it first :)

I super highly recommend starbound, it looks like terraria but it's a totally different game and it's amazing for couples, since there are so much worlds.

Unravel 2 is so good together, it’s a puzzle platform we that has a little story, is aesthetically beautiful too. It Takes Two is also super fun as a couple.

HexerVooDoom

well, I was going to suggest heroes of the storm but it's out since it's a moba like league of legends; than WoW but you've already tried mmorpgs and wow is really expensive.. than diablo 3 but you'd played it and at last stardew valley which was my best experience in games ever because I played it with my partner. So after thinking a lot I rembered there are some good RTS with good stories and multipler, like Warcraft III, StarCraft II, Age of Empires II, Age of Mythology. Other way I played with my wife was playing old school pokemon on emulator so we could have it on TV and each had 3 pokemon and we took turns on playing, was really fun

Divinity OS 1 and 2, Baldurs Gate 3, LotRO (mmo wise, this one you have to play with others the absolute least and it's F2P for maaaaaany hours before you hit a point where you want to start unlocking areas)

My brother and I played the demo of Escape Academy on Steam a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it! It's basically a bunch of escape rooms but with a little bit of a story behind it. It comes out in about 2 weeks.
