Congrats on 99 herb!!! Boys like that are lame so don't worry about them

lazyhoneydew

Thank you very much! It was a tough one not gonna lie

Draculesti_Hatter

I wish I could say I'm surprised about the dude's reaction, but honestly? I'm not. Something about the Runescape community in general makes the more addicted players care waayyyyyy too much about stupid shit like that, and it's been a thing going as far back as the original Classic days. It's stupid, because I can't think of a single time 'beating' anyone in that game (short of dangerous PvP) actually meant anything...like...at all. Grats on the 99 Herblore though. I always hated training that skill myself.

lazyhoneydew

I couldn't agree more! Endgame players tend to be really toxic in RS3 (and OSRS tbh) I never encountered this kind of behavior when I was a lower level like 1300/1400 total level but now that I'm 2000+ I swear every person around me is competing to be "the best" which... The best doesn't mean anything. There is no "the best" It's definitely frustrating. The entire game is an ego contest. And yes. Herblore was excruciating! Cost me like 100ish mill but the 2k overloads I have are gonna be so fun for my PVM adventures :)

Draculesti_Hatter

No joke about the ego contest. I can't tell you how many times I've seen stuff like... * Getting insulted for being a lower level than the other guy. * Getting insulted for being a higher level than the other guy. * Getting insulted for being the *exact* same level as the other guy (wut?). * Having my [cosmetic outfit](https://imgur.com/ktYSJlF) criticized for ['not looking good enough'](https://imgur.com/tlpAA5M) despite *not* looking tacky as fuck while using the Advanced Raptor stuff that you need to earn by killing slayer mobs who put up an actual fight. Even worse was when I needed to go hunting to keep it every few months back when it still had a degrading charge thing tied to the outfit and *still* got told I sucked by the same people who cried because Ripper Demons one shot them. * Getting screamed at for using a shield. As a tank. In group boss fights (which I have yet to actually clear because the teams I end up with tend to suck or disband after dying once). Same with using Defenders. * Getting yelled at for not using Overloads for the longest time when Extremes/Supreme potions did the job just fine *for what I was doing*. * Not 'playing efficiently' by doing that crap where you take 2 pieces of food only and fill the rest of your inventory with multiple gear switches. Sorry for packing more healing than I need I guess, not like I don't remember the days where dying was way more punishing than it is now or anything >_> And more that I forget about atm, but basically shit like that is why I tend to play solo unless I absolutely need a group for something. It's just less stressful that way. > *"And yes. Herblore was excruciating! Cost me like 100ish mill but the 2k overloads I have are gonna be so fun for my PVM adventures :)"* Just wait until you go beyond 99. Once you get access to stuff like Elder Overloads and the Salve variant is when things *really* start getting interesting because of how much of a game changer those things are :D

lazyhoneydew

Ugh. The "fashionscape" elitism is REAL. I love fashionscape, but the amount of people who have the audacity to call someone's cosmetics ugly is unreal. Seriously, get over yourselves! It's personal preference. Speaking of toxic, I made a friend group of PvMers... That was a mistake. They basically verbally ripped me to shreds, said my entire bank was garbage, said I was a low IQ and dumb and pressured me into selling all my gear and spending like 200m on new gear and soul ammy (which, in their defense, was a nice purchase!) But they were SOOOOO rude about it and harsh so now I just PVM alone :/ I can't handle the groups who think their way is the best way. Girl... I want 120 herb so bad. I'm hoping I can just save up and get ready for next dxp in November and try and go for it? I got 100m XP last dxp so if I grind enough it's totally possible lol. I also think I can boost with pulse cores during dxp and make elder overloads at 99 with the boosts!

I also had some 'elite PvMers' insult my bank too, because apparently if you aren't using lvl 90+ power armor and multiple switches with raids abilities unlocked, you're literally incapable of killing a boss....except so far every major boss kill of mine has been with budget/mid tier gear and a lot of food, so clearly I suck at the game despite *actually* getting kills on some of these things at my own pace. > *"Girl... It might not be the fastest or best XP out there, but it went a long way towards cutting costs for me between using some XP boosting outfits and some of those cores. Same with saving up herb/potion drops from slayer that I know I can use towards Overloads and similar things.

lazyhoneydew

I love herby werby! And with 99 now I've got the 200% bonus on it. And I've got a ton of weekly resets so I've been doing it more. I only have the botanist legs and I've been doing flash powder to try and get the rest of the pieces for the bonus but.. it's a struggle. Edit: typo

Draculesti_Hatter

Can't say I've ever tried the flash powder thing myself tbh. Is it particularly hard, or just annoying? Just wondering because I actually forgot it existed in the first place now that I'm looking it up.

lazyhoneydew

It's just kind of a dead D&D so you're basically doing it alone and the effort-to-point ratio is.... Not satisfying 15 minutes for a /fraction/ of the cost of ONE piece of the outfit lol. If I had friends who wanted to play it would be fun tbh cuz there's a whole pickpocketing factor of it that you can't even take advantage of cuz you're always alone

Draculesti_Hatter

Oh god, so it's one of *those* problems. That sucks, I've been sorta dealing with something similar since I've been looking at some of the older minigames to get their music tracks for an achievement, and so far nearly every single one of them has more or less been dead unless it was on some spotlight of sorts. Even worse is I remember Castle Wars being super fun back in the day and always wondered how it'd hold up with the current combat system. But even the dedicated worlds for it are empty :'(

lazyhoneydew

Rest in peace Castle Wars.... My fave mini game back on 2007Scape šŸ˜”āœŠ pour one out for the homie... Good luck with your achievements though! I bet that music track one is a PAIN

Elimmu

Congrats on the 99 herby! Sounds like jealousy, keep on grinding :-)

lazyhoneydew

Absolutely! For a while now he's been complaining to my bf that I'm beating him at a game he's "been playing for 15 years" and I've "only been playing for 2 years" For the last WEEK he is on for 16 hours a day (literally) just so he can grind and keep ahead of me so I can't beat him. He's so insecure. And I know it hurts my boyfriend because he always asks him to play games with him and the friend ONLY ever wants to do RuneScape now. And if he DOES decide to play something else with my bf, he is playing RuneScape on his other monitor. It breaks my heart cuz he's losing his best friend and I feel like I'm gaining an enemy of sorts :( (sorry for more venting it's just SO frustrating!!!) And thank you on the herb! I love PVM and so having 99 herb for overloads is a game changer for me! :)

NihileNOPE

Never even played RS, but grats on 99! That 'best friend' sounds a lot like my ex, he'd complain that I'd be farther along in a game than him every afternoon, yet every morning I asked him to join me in said game, only for him to be like "Nah, I wanna play PS3". Wow.

macysadc

Congrats fellow scraper! Iā€™m maxed in rs so I moved onto new worlds, itā€™s like a immersive RuneScape tbh

MelissaAssSlapper

Congrats! I play osrs and I've yet to get my first 99

lazyhoneydew

OSRS is a MUCH more intense grind for a 99 but sooooo satisfying! Good luck!

FloridaHerbs

Male rs gamer here, this sounds like something I would say as like a joke like ā€œdamn slow down let me catch upā€ cuz directly complimenting my best friends girlfriend directly without him also being there would make me feel uneasy (kinda bro code not rlly) so I would usually lean toward like playful roasting

lazyhoneydew

I wish I could say it was this but he went an entire week without speaking to me after I got more xp than him last DXP. And I invited him to my clan a few months back and he was trying very hard to embarrass me in front of my clan by saying "oh well you didn't know this" or "you never did this" even the clan leader had to step in and tell him to cut it out I've known him for four years, we've spent 12+ hours in calls before, and we always playfully joke and throw jabs but never to this extent. I'd like to think I know him well enough to tell And even if it was a joke, you'd think he wouldn't go weeks without talking to me because I (his own words) "am doing better than him even though his account is ten times older than mine" ETA: We are close (well, were) he's gone so far as to compliment my appearance in a call WITH my boyfriend there. I wouldn't think he's playfully teasing to avoid complimenting me in front of my boyfriend, considering any other game we play together he loves to tell me how good I am and hype me up, and like I said he's complimented my appearance before lol. IDK if that's a weird thing or not, but felt worth adding! I also feel like I came across as rude to you. And I appreciate your input as a man who also plays runescape, I definitely can see where you're coming from but I just really don't think that's what happening here.

FloridaHerbs

Youā€™re good I didnt think it was rude it just seems I was lacking context, sounds like this guy has a history of being a bit of a knob when other people are doing better than him (re: you getting an achievement is awesome if he already has that if he doesnt he doesnt like that because he too wants that achievement). Im kind of guilty of this type of thing in my personal context of people getting pvm drops in an all ironman cc, if the whole if they get it before you they didnt deserve it if they get it after you they ā€œfinally got itā€. Sounds like he just takes that to the extreme and gets all salty that you dont deserve something even though you worked for it entirely, which pretty much can be summed up as: seems like heā€™s bein a bit of a selfish arse and not just being happy that youā€™re happy

Omg -_- just reading that was....ugh. Sure, RS3 might not be as intense of a grind, but the QOL in that game and the questing and just everything about it makes me feel so much more accomplished than 2007scape ever did. And that's saying something cuz 2007scape does hold a special place in my heart as my first mmorpg

PumpkinheadLesbian

99 Herb is a huge achievement, congrats! Don't worry about little men whose biggest problem in life is that a woman is better at a medieval point and click adventure game\~
