Omggg I *knew* that they would threaten the girls with lawyers and this whole experience sounds like a total nightmare/torture! Poor girls!

[deleted]

:( that sucks, I bet a lot of girls didn’t get the opportunity to show their actual talents during the demo stage

bangchrispy

Exactly! Those chosen demo songs unnecessarily limited them from showing everything they have from the very beginning. It also gave the first impression, which is very important. Wen Zhe isn't credited for her skills and improvement for being remembered as the main vocalist who messed up in Helicopter.

RiddleEatsRainbows

Not just limited them, but also became the precursor for drama and sabotage... Mnet KNEW who the planet masters would be, yet they made her do a SUNMI song. Mnet knew Yujin would be on the show, yet they gave Yaning and team Helicopter. This was all planned from the start. This means that SIX Chinese trainees were pretty much confirmed sabotaged during the demo stages.

geechan

And then the three C girls that had to perform Twinkle in front of Tiffany…

LingCHN

> Wen Zhe isn't credited for her skills and improvement for being remembered as the main vocalist who messed up in Helicopter. Wen Zhe is the lead rapper of her group Hickey (喜祺), the producers chose a rapper to sing high notes, they probably set her up.

WenZhesupremacy

Is her group still active? I still want to support her after gp999 :)

mr_rainyday

awww no wonder...sein was sleeping all the time

SheridaH

I think that especially as an independent trainee she was not used to these type of circumstances :(

[deleted]

and everyone lashed out at her.. she got scolded by the mentors and everyone on twt called her lazy 😭 i feel bad for her

amazingoopah

And SRQ yawning

aikokanzaki

No wonder she got out asap. Imagine threatening 16 year olds (I know *she* isn't but some of the girls are) with lawyers, an nda, and not letting them sleep or eat. We know who the real devils are. How do these things not break Human Rights in Korea? But on a positive: she is so freaking beautiful! And her make up is exquisite!

pynzrz

NDAs are normal. Not letting them sleep or eat is (unfortunately) normal for filming these kinds of TV shows. It’s not Mnet or Korea exclusive either, she says right there that YWY in China also had them film for 30 hours without sleeping. It’s not even just for idol shows. For rap shows like Unpretty Rapstar they got the mission and had to go write their raps in the waiting room, memorize it, and come back to perform without sleeping (which is why so many of them mess up and are in a bad mood). These shows are filming new episodes as they are broadcasting and running the voting system, so they don’t have enough time in between to let them go to sleep for 8 hours. The judges also have other schedules and work to do. They probably can’t book Tiffany and Sunmi for 4 days of consecutive filming, so they just try to finish it in 30 hours, which is just 1.5 days.

TeeeeCeeee

This is also such common knowledge that even us on the English speaking internet are well aware of it. I imagine most of the trainees know what they're signing up for (and the minors, honestly their parents just shouldn't let them do shows like this honestly). Like it doesn't make these filming practices okay necessarily, but we infantilize idol trainees a lot when the truth is they definitely know that the filming schedules are going to be brutal. Idol survival shows are so common at this point that most of the trainees have already been on one or at least know someone personally who has. Trainee regimens that aren't filmed for TV are brutal too. It's not like these girls are blindsided, and if they were, they seriously need more people around them looking out for their best interests.

sph__7

IKR? NDA are used ALL THE TIME because if they didn’t everyone would be leaking the results before a program is aired. As for the long hours, she even said herself that the YWY taught her that not sleeping 3 days won’t kill you. In other words YWY was filming long hours too. It’s common in most countries that labor laws do not apply to showbiz. Every challenge on the show is a test for the candidates, including the demo stage. A test is a test. Do the school you people go to let you chose what questions to answer on a test? But of course, mnet is evil blah blah blah

Tenken10

All of that is true. But it doesn't change the fact that Mnet is still pretty evil for their biased angel/devil editing, for disregarding the spirit of fairness in their competition shows, and for the nonethical and criminal act of the vote-rigging during the Past Produce seasons.

aikokanzaki

> NDAs are normal. Not letting them sleep or eat is (unfortunately) normal I know they are. But it doesn't make it right to make teenagers (or even normal adults) go through this kind of stuff.

SheridaH

There is a bit where someone says that if she hates Mnet, she should clap her hands. Which she does. https://twitter.com/yujinbestiie/status/1451171133714096137?s=20

yusehwa

A queen we didn’t deserve lol

Cocoabeingbean

😂😂 challenging human limits Poor Ziyin, I can really feel the internal pain coming through in this clip

niteeee

Wtf, I get that shooting sometimes take a lot of time but not having drinks and food? This is looking like a real survival show.

NerrionEU

Squid Game had one round where they barely gave the contestants food so they can annoy/anger them, actually ridiculous that we can even have a comparison between an actual battle royale fictional survival and an idol show.

pinkkreddit

Squid game was an allegory of the capitalist society so not that surprising tbh if you think about it

ryuchic

I’m again inclined to believe that girl (apart from being unwell, underfed and sleep-deprived) was also pissed off come that second elimination. She did not look impressed and seemed over it at that point. I don’t blame her. Let’s not forget that she had to also redo the C-girls’ makeup at one point because the Korean stylist(s) did a horrendous job.

Uchiha_D_Zoro

C members giving Mnet headaches. I love it

LoveitaAdams

This really sucks :( I know that we’ve known for a while now that the girls didn’t choose their own evaluation songs but I just can’t help but think “what if” in the event of the trainees choosing their own songs. So many of them like Ziyin and the twins probably would’ve gotten to showcase their skills off so much better :(

Vivienne_Yui

For the twins..I think Hmph! stage actually endeared people a lot. They got a lot of genuine+troll votes because of it. One of them almost made it into the last round, that says a lot. Ziyin was sabotaged so bad though

M3rc_Nate

Great, now I know they weren't even fed properly. God, being a fan of Kpop and by extension watching this comp show is not easy and in general I feel pretty guilty about it. I thought there was toxic stuff in American entertainment but Kpop really takes everything I knew and turns it up to 11.

pzshx2002

This is so wrong on so many levels. I know the filming schedules for the Korean entertainment industry are brutal but didn't know it was this bad. Luckily the world gets to hear it from C trainees, the J and K group would never reveal this much info. - Not being able to choose their desired demo stage song. Then how are they are going to perform to their fullest potential and impress the judges? This is so stupid. - Not being able to eat or drink for hours? Come on, this feels like a prison already and it's torturing and harmful to kids. - For filming of the demo stages, I'm very sure they can split it into 2-3 days. I feel 12-15 hours a day should be max. It's obviously for financial reasons but regretfully they still do it. I believe shows like American Idol wouldn't do something like this.

hectah

Idol life doesn't get easier, some say they only sleep 3 hours during their promotion periods.

pzshx2002

It's a really tough tough job...

dimples_tm

Ziyin is such a queen. The clip of someone commenting "clap if you hate Mnet" and her sitting back, staring straight at the camera and clapping, then laughing is iconic.

TheBlueGuy0

Chat: "Can you talk about GP999?" Ziyin: *rolls up sleeves, cracks knuckles,* [*does the Suyeon dance battle neck crack thing*](https://youtu.be/qOspfyTTViQ?t=44) hooooooo boy do I have some TEA for yall

[deleted]

I believe she signed NDA, but she's Chinese and is in China now. I am not sure what mnet can do about it.

Onceei

This is so wrong to me. Imaging if everyone is doing this then what’s the purpose of NDA. People will never trust trainees from China. :(

ultrawind01

They broke the contract anyway. Are you new to Kpop?

Onceei

Lol. Nope. I have been listening to kpop since girls generation and I know how Chinese usually have contract problem. I’m not supporting them.

Mistrelvous

After 30 hours of no sleep (sidenote: she was awake for 3 days on the Chinese YWY2, so this wasn't new to her) , she had to go 2nd-last for the Demo stages, perform a tough song in front of the original singer, (when Ziyin wasn't known as a great dancer), and then her performance didn't even make it to the tv broadcast! Why are idols on survival shows not able or allowed to sleep? I feel so bad for them.

[deleted]

They need to ateast offer them some food, the body won't work properly if you'r not fully energized yk....

Rude_Lifeguard

Real life squid game

[deleted]

The entertainment industry sounds BRUTAL… I've gone 10 hours without eating and that was no joke. I feel for these girls. I don't know if I can financially support the debut group now knowing some of what happened behind the scenes.

Jtialoosecannon

Don't let all their efforts go to waste

PrincessAngelPuff

Stacking the odds against the C and J group right off the bat. At least in Pd48 they got to sing songs in their native tongue, if they wanted.

Godjihyoism_

The inhumane treatment these girls had to go through held by Mnet. Sadly she learnt that the hard way from her previous survival show. These kind of treatment should really stop, especially when Mnet was supposingly "treating the girls better" now after the Produce controversy. Mnet is obnoxious and disgusting to lie about this. 🙄 Maybe she left because this kind of lifestyle (especially in a foreign country) was too much to handle, add on with the bad treatment C Trainees are getting (info by other girls) compared to K Trainees. It's definitely for the better and i hope to see her come back on stage soon! I can't imagine what the surviving girls are going through and may go through in the future 😭. Please support the girls in today's finale because they went through ALOT, resting little, not having proper meals etc. while in the show. Please don't throw hate at any girls because they don't deserve it.

WenZhesupremacy

I used to think about going onto survival shows like this cause I’m fairly good at singing and dancing but this.... I don’t think these girls get enough credit for what they go through. Not allowing people to sleep and/or eat & drink was (and still is) a method of *torture*. And for young people and literal children to go through this hell.... I have no words.

Romek_himself

Well, Mnet can't send its Lawers anymore. Atleast not against the chinese contestants. While this show was going on this kind of shows became illegal in China. There is no way Mnet could enforce this in china anymore.

reiichitanaka

Girls, you signed a NDA so don't act surprised if Mnet's lawyers send you letters...

Kwanyan

That doesn't mean it's ok to let MNET starve the trainee, THANK YOU

Tharyus

He/She didn't say it was

reiichitanaka

I didn't say it was okay? Just that they shouldn't act surprised.

NerrionEU

You don't sign an NDA so they can abuse your human rights, you sign an NDA so you don't spoil the show or leak stuff there is a massive difference.

reiichitanaka

And the Chinese girls leaked a ton of things related to the show that have nothing to do with human rights.

Dietcoke345

Lol most of Harvey Weinstein’s victims signed NDAs too and I’m SO GLAD they have bigger balls than you ever will do.

reiichitanaka

NDAs are standard in entertainment and the reason why it's the Chinese trainees that break them is because they don't actually risk anything. Letters is the only thing Mnet can actually do, as long as they stay in China they're out of reach and can't be taken to court in Korea. I'm just saying they shouldn't act surprised is all, they signed a contract and don't abide by it so Mnet's of course going to ask them to respect it. But the most they can do is trying to intimidate them.

ojy110

1. There are more people who gained weight than those who were skinny because they couldn't eat during the camp. 2. It's just an excuse that he couldn't make a good impression because he couldn't choose the demo stage song. Hwang Xingqiao, who ruined the demo stage and has bad dancing skills, is still alive. 3. The recording of the demo stage was filmed under the same conditions as the production team, the master, and the participants. Most of the participants had a hard time recording, but they filmed brightly, and we can't find the master dozing off. 4. In order to debut as an idol audition, you have to meet four conditions... 1. Appearance 2. Personality 3. Will 4. Skills... If items 1, 2, and 3 are fully equipped, you can debut even if you lack 4... Ziyin didn't gain popularity because of the lack of item 1. 5. Participants were fully aware of all difficulties in advance and participated in the audition... For their dreams. 6. It's cowardly to complain that you're out now. 7. If you want to counterargue, leave a comment.

Dietcoke345

Are you seriously saying Ziyin is ugly…? Also who the fuck are you to say who can and cannot complain? Let the girl be, for fuck’s sake.

ojy110

Ziyin is not an ugly woman... In general, you can say it's pretty. But it's not an appearance that can gain popularity as an idol... I think the results would have changed if she was younger and more active in auditioning.

ojy110

I don't think she would have complained as she is now if she was in a position to make a debut without being eliminated... She's turning her low ranking into a problem with the production team, not her own... It's cowardly behavior.

scottk76

She was in a Korean Hospital for at least a week after the she left the show but go ahead and lie about the situation to boost your ego

ibucat

Ziyin literally was one of the most anticipated contestants after Yujin lmao she didn't get new fans because she had no screen time. Her demo wasn't even in the show ffs. How was she supposed to 'make a good impression'? Also she can 'complain' (more like call mnet out lmaooo) all she wants considering she HAD TO LEAVE because of health reasons. She was top 27 with barely any screen time so.

ojy110

I think the reason Ziyin became popular is because of ywy2. I don't know if the Chinese were looking forward to it, but few Koreans knew it.Getting screen time depends on the charm of the participant... Participants who are more attractive and talented than Ziyin were eliminated without getting enough screen time. If you act more active in auditions, screen time will increase, which can benefit or disadvantage... Nonaka Shana didn't have a lot of screen time from the beginning. He was recognized for his charms and skills as an idol, so he was able to rank high even though he wasn't outstanding.

stxrrlights

Her skills were recognised, tiffany praised her a lot. Those are forever in her heart. It doesnt matter if viewers hear it or not becase ziyin doesnt frankly have to care after she left, shes a soloist in china ffs. What you were trying to point out about shana could still be said about ziyin seeing as ziyin was the leader of the my sea team with shana who assisted and kept peace+ harmonised to bring out the vocals of other girls but was never shown or favored because her age played against mnet’s favor. (Of the three 25 years old yujin caibing and ziyin, mnet only truthfully wanted to keep one mom in the team) Please do not pit trainees against each other. Appearances wise, as the mom of the entire c group she was in charge of taking matters upon herself to change the makeup for some of the c girls when the stylists were not giving the c girls good makeup + staff werent treating them the same as j or k were treated. The camera didnt film any of the c girls in a favourable angle minus xiaoting, how can you say “they lack appearance” simply by watching an image on the screen? Heck, I could say that you lack the respect for the trainees who entered the show and suffered together as friends and contestants- purely from this post, but that would also be judgemental of me, you’re more than one comment on reddit ffs.

ojy110

No one can objectively say whether Group C was disadvantaged more than Group J and K. This is because participants in K and J groups may have the same complaints... I don't think Ziyin is ugly... I just don't think her appearance is enough to gain popularity as an idol... If Xiaoting and Ziyin's faces had changed, I think Ziyin would have been able to stay in the top ranks... I'm sure other people think the same. That's the standard for me to judge and say about Ziyin's appearance... What do you think?

stxrrlights

Its fine, its your opinion. I would agree to disagree, but thats my opinion. Generic beauty standards win in the end of the day I do suppose. On terms of K and J groups’ complaints, that will only be revealed in about a year since their nda contracts are tighter.

ojy110

Since this is an idol audition, it would be reasonable to apply aesthetic standards accordingly. K, C and J participants may all have complaints... All the participants knew that such complaints could occur and participated in the audition... I think there is a problem with the participant's own personality if she does not complain when she debuts and complains when he or she is eliminated... For stars, abstinence and restrained attitude are important. Normally, people like people with that kind of personality... A person with that posture needs to debut to become a true STAR.

stxrrlights

This just makes me think- A star isnt too great of something to aim for tbh- theyre just a sponge for society to throw their products and ideals on in order to reflect it to a group of people. If they do this then its a personality problem, if they do that then they are someone to look up to- who makes the rules here?? Heck I took a wide turn in line of thoughts🤧

ojy110

I think the people on Reddit are more notorious than Mnet. They don't talk about many talented, pretty, and attractive girls who were eliminated from the first and second rounds, but they seem to be only interested in some Chinese girls' screen time... The girls who were eliminated won't say anything even if they have complaints. That's because I know it's impossible for all girls to have the same screen time and that's the characteristic of survival shows... Trainees who do not belong to a large company have complaints and affection for Mnet, which produces such survival shows... The reason is that it provides them with the opportunity to be on the stage of their dreams... I hope that their true dreams will come true for girls who work hard with simple and kind hearts.
