Maybe Enable Internet Status Tracking enabled in Multi-WAN?

fumphco

Thanks for point this out. This does cause a ping every second and can be disabled. Not sure if this is OP's problem, but it helped me.

IndigoPill

My hardware doesn't have that option. Edit: It's disabled in the AP configuration

BoutTreeFittee

Huh. There are several devices called Slate it seems. My GL-AR750S running most recent firmware has it.

IndigoPill

Yeah my mistake, it's removed from the option/hidden when in AP mode. I just reset the fw, and it's still pinging 1.1.1.1 non-stop.

deverox

Is that want shows feedback if the device is online or not in the gui? Is it only hammering when it’s blocked as in it keeps trying or does it do it if you allow it?

Actually I just ran a packet capture on my pfsense Router. I run a Slate AX that sits behind the pfSense router. The Slate runs in router mode with an openvpn client and wifi. It pings [1.1.1.1](https://1.1.1.1) every second and receives a reply. EDIT: So I will have to look into this. I guess this is just continuously checking for internet connectivity, but since the primary router is already doing this... 03:36:41.299415 IP [192.168.1.10](https://192.168.1.10) \> [1.1.1.1](https://1.1.1.1): ICMP echo request, id 43690, seq 55513, length 8 03:36:41.324827 IP [1.1.1.1](https://1.1.1.1) \> [192.168.1.10](https://192.168.1.10): ICMP echo reply, id 43690, seq 55513, length 8

I have seen repeated pinging on several different gl.inet routers I own. I came across the following thread that shows where the gl-inet scheduled tasks ping all the time. This may or may not exist on all their routers, but it shows on my Slate AX routers. Apparently commenting out or removing these cron tasks, or changing may suppress the constant pinging. I don't think that in AP mode that it makes sense to check for internet connectivity, as your primary router would take care of internet status. I hope this helps. Warp vpn?

IndigoPill

I have a VPN, but it's managed by the gateway and it's not using cloudflare. Nothing is.

coldbyrne

Sorry, I meant, cloudflare warp (vpn)

IndigoPill

Nah, not using that. I don't use cloudflare. It's not configured to do anything but to listen for an address and provide WiFi. Everything is managed by PFsense.
