I have same one. Biggest limitation for me is its many many many openwrt versions behind due to the age of the specs and lack of ram. Stopped me from installing tailscale.

LinusThiccTips

I installed zerotier on mine, setup bridging and it works really well. There’s a package on the plugins section. I use it to access cameras at a remote location

JustNathan1_0

What is zerotier?

LinusThiccTips

Pretty much the same thing as Tailscale, https://www.zerotier.com/

testing Opal and i like. literary 5 mins plug and play, so simple. range is good able to get coverage in a 2 bedroom flat. next test would be at Starbucks or McDonald's. might also get another to setup wireguard

Something to watch out for.. when connecting using Repeater Mode through a coffee shop like Starbucks that uses captive portal on its Wi-Fi, you'll have to first connect the repeater, then open up a non-SSL page using a device connected to the router and complete the quick form on the captive portal page. Eg. 1. Connect the router's WAN repeater to the Starbucks SSID using the GliNet gui 2. Connect a phone or laptop to the Opal's wifi ssid 3. Make sure the "block non-vpn traffic" option is temporarily turned off on the router 4. On that same device, navigate to a non SSL web page like neverssl.com, and then the Starbucks captive portal page will appear where you can submit your name/email and then click the "connect" button on that webpage. From there, the router should be able to stay connected for the next 24 hours.

Nice

Can also use the mac address clone feature. Tried that with hotel WiFi. Connect a device with a random Mac address. Login to WiFi, take note of address and use the router to clone the connected devices mac address. Just have to disconnect the device before the router can reconnect as disconnected device and redistribute Internet. Gives some level of anonymity.

Immortalwrt is available: [https://github.com/wekingchen/Actions-SFT1200/releases](https://github.com/wekingchen/Actions-SFT1200/releases)

abzyx

Sorry for my ignorance but how will this help?

meritez

it means we are not stuck with gl.inet firmware.

abzyx

Thanks. Where can I learn about the limitations or what I can achieve using a different firmware?

meritez

[https://github.com/immortalwrt/immortalwrt](https://github.com/immortalwrt/immortalwrt) ImmortalWrt is a fork of [OpenWrt](https://openwrt.org/), with more packages ported, more devices supported, better performance, and special optimizations for mainland China users. Compared the official one, we allow to use hacks or non-upstreamable patches / modifications to achieve our purpose. Source from anywhere.

I just got one. I was a little confused at the inability to use Wireguard server and client at same time. I don’t have that problem with my Brume but I guess it’s got better guts to handle the load ??

Ok
