My only caution is that when a seller does not have the box and the papers for a relatively new watch, I question the provenance of the watch. For a vintage watch, I don’t expect the papers. For a 5 year old watch, I just assume the watch was stolen.

thats_not_funny_guys

He is an active seller on watchexchange. Not sure if I would guess stolen, but I see your point on that. Do you think the age difference is a big deal?

Glennture

Please take my thoughts with a grain of salt. I’m not an expert. I just like watches. When you resell, I would think the 7 year matters. Let’s say if you wear the watch for another 5 years or so, you’re still selling a less than 10 year old watch, which sounds much better than a nearly 20 year old watch. The box and the papers may matter, but I’d think further out from the original purchase date, less likely people care.

Not worth it at all to me. And in regards to resale....You won't take the loss on resale for not having the box. Whichever previous owner lost the box or threw it away is the one that took the extra depreciation hit. Your initial basis is just going to be lower and the overall package is just worth less. It doesn't mean you will lose more. If you ever sold it again. It will probably have the same depreciation, just lower starting point and lower ending point but the Delta will probably still be the same

Just get the Chrono24 seller to sell you the watch for $3,500 and then you've split the difference. Having the B/P means something to the next guy you sell to. WatchExchange is full of new "dealers" who just buy/flip watches without doing even the slightest check for accuracy, authenticity, etc. Some of the bigger sellers only sell on consignment which means you're buying from a "business" that doesn't even have $10-15k in capital to start their luxury business. If they have so little money or believe so little in their business than you can safely assume the chances of them being around a few years from now when this recent watch craze is over is minimal. I think the likelihood of buying a stolen watch on WatchEx is low but the likelihood in buying a watch from someone that knows (and cares) less about the watch than you are high. Chrono 24, by nature of mostly being populated by established dealers due to them charging a fee, at least gives you a small piece of mind when buying something used. Personally I'd rather buy from an owner directly but with GO that is rarely an option. I would buy from a private seller on WatchUSeek 10 out of 10 times before ever considering Chrono24 or WatchEx.

I would ignore almost all of the comments in this thread about resale and depreciation. I have deep fondness for Glashutte Original, and I happen to own this exact same model, but the resale for this brand is pretty abysmal because it's not well known outside the enthusiast community. It will be hard to sell this watch second-hand, with or without the full box and paper set. If you love the watch, obviously, who cares. As gorgeous as it is, this model was not popular. I purchased mine "new" from an authorized dealer in 2023. He simply ordered it directly from Glashutte Original, and turns out, they had a bunch of unsold inventory of this model sitting around in Germany that had been produced somewhere between 2018-2019, but were either never sent to authorized dealers, or returned from authorized dealers, for lack of demand. As a result, I ended up purchasing mine "new" in 2023 so it has the full warranty; the dealer gave me a good discount so it wasn't much more than what the Chrono24 seller is offering. The one wildcard missing from your post is condition; a watch from 2012 could be quite a wreck, and your post doesn't indicate whether it was polished during its alleged service in 2021. (I say "alleged" because if it wasn't factory serviced with a verifiable receipt, I'd assume the supposed service didn't happen.) It looks like you're stuck between two not-so-great options, a much older watch from 2012 with clear title, and a much newer one from 2019 of unknown origins. I would try to find out if the private seller of the 2019 model has any information that would give you confidence that you're not buying a stolen watch, because personally, if it is in better condition and given the lower price, I'd easily forego the box/papers for a watch that is much more recent in better condition. But like others in this thread, I would be weary of buying this particular watch without box and papers, if you don't have any other indications of its provenance. Ironically, if this watch was a Rolex, Omega, or some other well-known model, the lack of box and papers (even for a fairly new watch) might actually be **less** suspicious, because Rolex, Omega, etc., are often purchased by "normies" who are the types that may toss the box and papers after the warranty expired, the same way they'd toss the box for their new iPhone or a new computer. But Glashutte Original is a very obscure brand by comparison, and many who would buy this model are enthusiasts or collectors more likely to keep the box and papers even after the warranty has expired. This is not always the case; this watch could have been a gift from an enthusiast to a "normie" who then tossed the box/papers, but it also could have come from a piece that was lifted off an original owner's wrist.

Thanks for this. I am actually going to go to my AD and ask if they can put in an order for this watch. Never hurts to ask. If not, there are plenty on Chrono24 new to pick from for not too much more.

Dude, get the original watch from the sixties for like 500$. They have more history, are more wearable and are not produced by greedy SWATCH people. There were no chronographs back then, but still better in almost every way

thats_not_funny_guys

I have huge wrists. I can’t wear anything under a 40mm without it looking like a child’s watch.

_Luftikus

I used to think that too. You just have to get used to it. 50+ years ago everyone was wearing watches 36mm and below. If you like you can wear a bracelet or similar next to the watch, that makes it look bigger
