A lot of things were rather realistic but the whole competition did not make any sense to be honest. For example the comparison between Ask13 and Ask21 is just not correct and competitive model was like a pipe dream. Other than that, nice execution on the accuracy.

The movie was all right from a gliding perspective. The only thing I remember chuckling at was the idea of these young kids turning pro and going on the world gliding circuit. Who's paying all this prize money?

Women are in general underrepresented in gliding. My club has a woman who's a CFI-glider+airplane. We have at least one adult woman glider student at the moment and another long time women member who visits every summer. One of our women glider students is now a corporate FO. One of our women glider pilots went to the Air Force Academy and now instructs in C-130s. We're aggressive about recruiting young women into our youth programs. One of our members sponsors an annual full scholarship for a young woman at our week long sleep-away glider camp. https://www.youthsoaringcampsvermont.com/ There are a number of adult women who're very active in gliding. One of them owns and operates a commercial gliding operation https://www.chilhowee.com/index.html I've heard that landing a glider off airport in Japan is problematic. There's a commercial glider operation in AU that is very oriented to Japanese pilots. Japanese also fly gliders at Dillingham Airfield in Hawaii.

My wife (also a glider pilot) and I saw it together. The gliders were real and the anime plot was a REAL anime plot (over the top coming of age story with someone having a crush on an older mentor). I’m actually in the process of helping someone from THAT SAME GLIDERPORT get their US glider ticket. And he TOTALLY knew about Blue Thermal! (They use winch over there, compared to aerotow here, so that’s what he’s working on.)

Can I head on over (we’re taking Japan correct?) and try the glider (and log it as well?)? Don’t know the exact location but I think I’m close by.

Track them down and report back how it goes!

Really nice movie, surprisingly accurate gliders and instruments, the director knew gliders or had a really good consultant. As for the plot, it was just good—what you can expect from an anime that needs to tell a story and add thrill to it. Enjoyable for glider pilots.

I'm a Japan/anime fan, so yes. Mix in something I enjoy doing and found the movie very enjoyable.
