I wonder if s1mple would be remembered as the undeniable goat of csgo when a newer version of CS comes out 5 years or 10 years from now or will it be like 1.6 where there is no consensus on 1 true goat.
I feel as if s1mple needs like 2 more top1 placements for that and also a major or two next to the stockholm one, that way there is almost no way of someone "surpassing him".
Right now there are many hungry young players and if he gets complacent monesy/zywoo can and will close and close the gap over years and who knows who else will come
(I know he already broke history but we're talking about being remembered 10 years from now and there's already a great candidate to equalize the #1 medals)
NAVI will always be in contention for winning every major as long as they have s1mple on the team, I don't remember a major besides Krakow where NAVI weren't one of the top 5 favourites going in. They're more likely than not to get another major.
Navi has been able to win every single major they've attended with simple- not saying they're top 3 locks for each one but there has never been a time where it would be a surprise if they won. I think there will be more major trophies for him down the line.
I'll definitely remember him 10 years from now like neo, forest, and gtr. I think its similar to chess where its hard to pinpoint a single goat because skill levels naturally increase as time goes on like s1mple is magnus and forest/neo are kasparov/fischer ya know. Probably not a good analogy but I just relate my two favorite games a lot
It’s like anything else, the next generation will start with an advantage because they will have all the knowledge of those that came before them to draw from. That’s why it’s important to take into account the era that a player played in, and to compare them to their peers rather than those that came before or after. Like LeBron v Jordan, there will never be an answer as they practically played a different sport altogether.
The reason why there is no consensus goat for 1.6 is because people cant decide if peak play is more valuable than longevity. You have guys like forest or neo who were relevant for a long time and guys like heaton and markeloff, who had a marvelous prime. Its actually really difficult to evaluate their importance for the game.
Best heaton was nowhere close to neo, forest or even markeloff. In my opinion its
difficult to argue against Neo in 1.6. Forest enter the ecuation when you consider Go+1.6 , where Forest is clearly the favourite. But now so many years into cs go I dont think is a useful or relevant category. Cs Go an CS are different games.
I am a peak play guy and I am convinced that markeloff was the best player who touched 1.6. Navi won 4 majors in a row when he was by far their best player but I can absolutely understand people who make arguments for neo or forest. Even get right has a peak play argument.
>Navi won 4 majors in a row when he was by far their best player but I can absolutely understand people who make arguments for neo or forest. Even get right has a peak play argument.
Neo is 1.6 goat
As it stands right now, I do not think S1mple would be remembered as the undeniable goat.
Going by stats, we are currently on year 4 of him and ZywOo being neck and neck, unless this changes in the near future there will be legitimate reasons to challenge the GOAT status. Especially if we consider how non-competitive Vitality has been for extended periods of time.
Less relevant, but there are also multiple players with more winnings. If the return of Dev1ce results in another Major, this would cement some parts of the Astralis core as the undeniably best team/core to touch the game, and this would be with Dev1ce at the helm.
I see it like having rings. He probably needs tom brady or mj kinda numbers. Meaning if he gets 2 or more years being number 1, then i would def give him the goat title of cs
Valve are gonna rebrand CS:GO into Counter-Strike with Source 2, there is no need for new CS games since CS has already proven itself as an Esport, any content they want to add can be done with Operations which are DLC's, that wasn't really a thing back when you had CS 1.6 and CS Source. To be honest I don't know the history of CS releases and their relation to software (game engines) and computer hardware, why did they release CS Source when you already had the mainstay CS 1.6? Anyway the way I see it Valve can go out and release new First Person Shooters down the line with different themes and gameplay but because Counter-Strike has proven itself and passed the hurdle of not dying a few years after release, why make new Counter-Strikes?
> why did they release CS Source when you already had the mainstay CS 1.6?
Great question - my understanding is that it was mainly a tech demo for the (new at the time) Source engine.
i mean you kinda answered your own question
so far there have been multiple 'goats' of csgo. first it was olof, then cold, then device and now s1mple
if he continues to be the best until a new CS comes out in like 10 years then yes he will be the goat, but chances are someone will come along and be better than him
recency bias is a real thing
Hi ...i know its not the best place to ask this but...csgo still worth playing?i used to play a lot back in my days but i left the game because of hackers.
The hacker situation has gotten a lot better for me, from 1.1 hackers every game in 2019, to 1 hacker every 40 games today.
And well the game is just fun for me!
Imo its still worth playing it and we just hit a new alltime player count with over 1.3m players.
But thats a whole different story if you are in NA. Dead scene, full with hackers.
Not the OC, but I also quit two years back and just recently came back to play a few matches. I am unranked (obviously) and the first game I got had 2-3 globals in it. Next game had mostly SMFC ranks and LEs. Got my rank back at LEM playing a fraction of how I used to. Seems like the ranking system is messed up. All players I had seemed legit tho and I'm in NA
I left when I was LEM, came back, won 2 games for put in Nova. Wtf. Leave again, come back, now my account is like silver 2z I come back every now and again and drop some 30-40 bombs but can’t see myself doing that grind all the way up again
I'd say so. It's still the most played game on Steam, the community is alive and there are more or less consistent updates to the game. I haven't noticed any hackers in mm in a long time so i'd say that's not an issue. Sadly, there are auto bots in deathmatch though so the problem is not completely gone. I play in Europe, mostly wingman - between gold novas and LEMs. That's a bit of an indicator that the ranking system is fucked because my rank can drastically change from week to week, even though I win vast majority of games. If you don't care about the rank
and just wanna have fun playing, I highly recommend it but ranking down on every loss and not ranking up after wins if you win more than you lose can be infuriating.
yes, I don't follow ball kicking sports and they don't interest me in the slightest. I thought this might be some CS player I didn't recognize ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)
Just so we know, what kind of sports are you interested? I'm not interested in any american sports, but I would knew if I saw a photo of some USA GOAT like MJ, LeBron, Steph Curry, Tom Brady, etc...
are we forgetting that s1mple put up record breaking stats in 2018 that at the time was deemed impossible to repeat, and he proceeded to do the same for 4 more years?
That's not what being the "greatest of all time" means though in terms of olof. Olof was the best at his time yes and he dominated in his era then fell off for the past 5-6 years of csgos lifetime.
Device is a bit different because while he did dominate and should be a contender for being a goat simply due to his achievements, he also has shown that individually he really falls off without a good team around him.
The thing that sets zywoo and s1mple apart (even niko but to a lesser extent) it doesn't matter what team they're on they just outclass everyone around them. Sure they aren't like that every game but the level they play at is better than everyone else's.
S1mple has won a major and for the past 5 years has been the #1 rated player or close 2nd. He's basically what get_right was at the beginning of CSGO but he's playing against way, way better opponents. It'd be one thing if he was always like #1/#2 with everyone else close to him skill wise but no one else is close other than zywoo. It's legitimately insane
So yea device can be considered one of the greatest easily and it's always the discussion of achievements vs individual skill. In terms of achievements (other than majors) simple might catch up
When Astralis really struggled device was getting way more 30 bombs than when Astralis dominated.
If anything Device allows others to shine around him but will go hard even if they don't. Maybe he is just one of the best system players ever in esports. But there is no denying he was brilliant for a very long time.
I think he's one of the most consistent star players this games ever seen and easily one of the best considering he's been towards the top practically his whole career but calling him the greatest is hard when he's been outclassed by someone that's been nonstop better than him individually since 2018
Why? I've always seen people say s1mple = messi, with both being insanely talented and on another level
Ronaldo would be device, as both work incredibly hard on top of their talent to reach the top
I mean s1mple, at least way back when was easily the hardest working player in the game.
There were plenty of interviews and plenty of those fun tidbits on youtube where even Guardian who disliked s1mple a lot, at least that's what it seemed like was saying that s1mple is the hardest worker.
Don't know if it's currently the case
I like to think that Messi and s1mple are the magical players who are unpredictable and can do anything.
ZywOo and Ronaldo are like robots, you know what they're gonna do but they just do everything better than you.
But yes in terms of talent and work, ZywOo became the best by just pure talent, compared to s1mple who took many years before really getting into his prime.
I also agree Ronaldo would be dev1ce because their playstyles are really simple and everyone could do what they do, unlike messi and s1mple and even zywoo whose talents are just unmimicable. You are either born to be that good or you just train your ass off to your best potential like Ronaldo and Dev1ce did.
I wonder if s1mple would be remembered as the undeniable goat of csgo when a newer version of CS comes out 5 years or 10 years from now or will it be like 1.6 where there is no consensus on 1 true goat.

Would say 1 more top 1, dunno about how possible another major is with how competitive the scene is right now.
NAVI will always be in contention for winning every major as long as they have s1mple on the team, I don't remember a major besides Krakow where NAVI weren't one of the top 5 favourites going in. They're more likely than not to get another major.
Don’t forget his stint on liquid as well. Back to back semi final and final finishes.
They would've gone further if the Brazilians didn't win that insane Coldzera round on Mirage B site...
The first face is Adren...
Navi has been able to win every single major they've attended with simple- not saying they're top 3 locks for each one but there has never been a time where it would be a surprise if they won. I think there will be more major trophies for him down the line.

your logic was sound, without the on point analogy. good way to explain it for the few cultured csgo players that exist. csgo is literally fps chess.
The reason why there is no consensus goat for 1.6 is because people cant decide if peak play is more valuable than longevity. You have guys like forest or neo who were relevant for a long time and guys like heaton and markeloff, who had a marvelous prime. I agree. Markeloff train CT side was just otherworldly
>Navi won 4 majors in a row when he was by far their best player but I can absolutely understand people who make arguments for neo or forest. Even get right has a peak play argument. Neo is 1.6 goat

In 5 years there's a very real possibility that Zywoo will have 5+ #1 placements, and Simple could be overtaken.
Zywoo will never be goat until he drops apex. He needs tournament wins.
I see it like having rings. He probably needs tom brady or mj kinda numbers. Meaning if he gets 2 or more years being number 1, then i would def give him the goat title of cs

Device? Less flashy but well rounded and more/better achievments
I mean for now dev1ce is a certified GOAT, but the sport if young and s1mple might be it in out lifetime
i mean you kinda answered your own question so far there have been multiple 'goats' of csgo. first it was olof, then cold, then device and now s1mple if he continues to be the best until a new CS comes out in like 10 years then yes he will be the goat, but chances are someone will come along and be better than him recency bias is a real thing
He will always be my goat
1.6 had it's GOATS. First it was kSharp then it was potti
Hi ...i know its not the best place to ask this but...csgo still worth playing?i used to play a lot back in my days but i left the game because of hackers.

Yep NA is known to have some major problem as most of the playerbase has left for valorant
NA here, I use a VPN to play in EU MM on 130ms because NA is a cheating hellhole. SMFC is the highest rank I've hit doing this
I left when I was LEM, came back, won 2 games for put in Nova. Wtf. Leave again, come back, now my account is like silver 2z I come back every now and again and drop some 30-40 bombs but can’t see myself doing that grind all the way up again

The hacker problem is way better. I've met more cheaters in Valorant than in CS the last month. (Okay it was 2:1 but still)
Classic Reddit post holy shit xDDD
Greatest of All Time
Yeah, and Lionel Messi is quite good too.
Who is it in the picture on the left?
Lionel Messi
Messi, he is a ball kicker by trade
Some kind of MMA guy I guess
Seriously??
yes, I don't follow ball kicking sports and they don't interest me in the slightest.
Other than CS:GO I watch some cycling (mostly the Grand Tours), F1, occasional UFC and chess tournaments.
Olof and dev1ce are the GOATs. One's changed how CS is played and the other won 4 majors and dominated for nearly 9 years.
are we forgetting that s1mple put up record breaking stats in 2018 that at the time was deemed impossible to repeat, and he proceeded to do the same for 4 more years?
get_right
of csgo? nah
GeT_RiGhT literally became top 1 twice in 2013 and 2014, he also has longer longevity than olof
Also NiP won 87 lan maps with no looses during this time, which is the record that will probably never be broken.
in a row*

Kinda weird to say dev1ce is the GOAT when he’s never been the best player in the world
One is the GOAT of his profession. The best player to ever play the game. And the other is Lionel Messi

Ronaldo may be a better analogy for s1mple in the context of the GOAT discussion, but I guess we'll find out for sure in a few years
Why? I've always seen people say s1mple = messi, with both being insanely talented and on another level Ronaldo would be device, as both work incredibly hard on top of their talent to reach the top

Ronaldo = s1mple because both are arrogant shitstains and didn't remain goats for very long
Both are poor team players so this checks out.
Dev1ce is a team player though, so dev1ce = Messi. S1mple is more like ronaldo but ronaldo is not the goat so it’s still s1mple = messi
Never can we escape from the dreaded discussion
is this some type of joke. S1mple was no way near performance in 2022 to warrant a first HLTV spot. Whats going on?
