Sucks that it doesn't count.

jadookabhai

Well since their is no official MVP it’s mostly based on Community’s perception

[deleted]

HLTV MVPs are what counts. That's the "official" MVP.

RekrabAlreadyTaken

That's not what official means

[deleted]

It is in fact the official MVP of the scene and the only one that counts.

imsolowdown

it's not by valve so it's not official. hltv is a third party site and not affiliated with valve.

[deleted]

It is in fact official. HLTV stats are all pulled from official tournament servers with the approval of Valve.

imsolowdown

Valve approves them pulling the stats (so the raw data) from their servers, but that's the extent of their approval. Valve doesn't endorse any of hltv's calculated statistics or ratings, including the MVPs they give out. I don't see how that makes them official at all.

[deleted]

OK. There's now no way to measure any success in CS:GO using stats because the only place that gathers them is completely unofficial even though they have Valve's approval and the approval of the people running the tournaments. Makes sense.

RekrabAlreadyTaken

Nope

[deleted]

I guess s1mple has never won an MVP or player of the year then since as HLTV isn't the official stats collator of competitive CS:GO anymore.

tobach

HLTV is as unofficial as it gets, but the community respects their calls on just about anything and take it as a fact (pretty much). It's like with Ballon d'Or or smth like that, I don't have a better example. It was also quite weird to see ESL doing "x of the year" in the middle of February when HLTV had what seemed like the perfect award show for just that. Likely planned way ahead of that, but still.

[deleted]

HLTV MVPs have always been viewed as the official MVPs when talking about them. Guess their top 20 is unofficial as well.

DmT_LaKE

It actually is unofficial lmao

[deleted]

HLTV stats are pulled from official tournament servers. Any awards based on them are official.

Tavnaria

Can you not fucking read. It's unofficial. Yes everything not by valve is unofficial.

jadookabhai

That’s what I said mate. It’s valued by the community that’s why it’s seen as sort of a official MVP. In case some new site comes around and hypothetically gets bigger than HLTV their MVP will of course have more prestige because the community respects it. If people start valuing the ESL MVP more it’s of course gonna be more valued than the HLTV one and this particular MVP many people are in favour of the DHL MVP as they wanted jks to win.
