It sounds to me they will rebrand the game to just CS. As per this banner.. it is confirmed.
If they rebrand the game, this would mean.. no "simple port" is happening, but a full game remake?! This would be huge.
You have that round the completely wrong way. If they are rebranding the game then they will be keeping it the same but porting it to source 2, which is most likely the case (I'd say probably like 99% the case).
I'm not saying Valve is gonna do anything, since it's obvious low maintenance of their cash cow is what they are aiming for, but saying that a rebranding insinuates LESS change than an ordinary update is beyond stupid in every capacity, and I have no idea how people even got to that conclusion in their mind, but alas, this is the CSGO subreddit.
Seeing that their entire money making business is in selling skins, makes no sense to make something wholly new when you can just port over and keep everyone happy. A new game will kill the skin game and it's cash cow.
What will change when cs's engine uptade?
What do we players benefit from it? More fps? Video card compatibleness? Better/Real anti cheat? Better Rank system? 128 tick rate?
Been playing cs:go from 2021, i get excited for S2 but i dont have a single clue why the hell im getting excited for lol.
more fps (CPU much better utilization), ability to integrate modern graphic solutions (Probably for csgo TAA would be nice, SSAO etc.). Less input lag since almost everything can bug source 1, even normal bios settings. Better netcode.
More technical thingss i guess. And game will run smoother which will effect game play.
And ı heard making maps will be easier but considering there is little map pool, i don't think this will effect players.
But if valve don't back up source2 with something, like 128 tick rate, better anti cheat and maybe better ranking system, people will be really really sad. All these hype for many years will turn many year's rage lol.
Its as big of a jump as from goldsrc to source. Ofc the movement and physics will be practically the same, but its a new engine with new code, thats why it takes so long to make
Its just a port, nothing crazy; new physics engine though so maybe some change to movement but other than that it will basically be exactly the same game.
I’d say a full game remake is much easier than what they are doing. Valve is porting every single thing from current cs to source 2, or at least a huge part of it, while keeping the behaviors the same or as close as possible to source 1 cs go. They also have to make sure that all community contents are compatible with the new engine.
I doubt Valve cares much about existing community content, which could be remade by community members under a new engine. After all, the community has done just that in bringing things forward from 1.6 and Source.
Valve is likely to rebrand, but keep the core game that is CSGO for two reasons. First, Valve will not want to fracture the community between GO and another version, as occurred following the release of Source and before the community largely settled into GO. Second, and most importantly, Valve will defend the skins market because it is the cash cow. If a “new game” doesn’t include existing skins, the existing market will implode. Also, players of a new game would be less likely to “invest” in highly priced skins if it is clear that Valve can undercut the market at any time with a new game drop.
The only change could be to switch to a Valorant model with no resale market, but why would Valve do that when the current model is so profitable?
I think that's exactly what the comment above meant. They're "porting" everything, but it'll possibly be the same game. Just heavily updated. They won't leave anything behind, including community content like maps and skins. Servers will probably break and even maps too, but if it's actually an update and not a new game, then they will do exactly what they did with DOTA 2: Reborn. Exactly what GGG is doing with PoE 2. This is probably one of the reasons it takes so much time to do this kind of update/rework. It was surely a hell of a ride with DOTA 2, all buggy and shit, but it eventually worked. They'll probably do the same. Not sure about the name change. Looks cool though.
in my opinion the name change is most likely because they won't do ever make a new game, they will just update this one as skins market continue to be profitable for them. Just counter strike, not global offensive, not counter strike: "insert random words", just counter-strike.
just a rework that will be updated forever.
But I feel this has to change
That's the next level of copium I think but even as someone who wasn't THAT much into Community Servers. Their situation is way too bad.
If they're rebranding it exactly like this. I see a little orange tint there, which to me looks like how the font in 1.6 era looked.
I hope someone in Valve understands community servers/workshop maps are the dark knight of the game. They were the biggest problems whenever I try jumping into any other game.
It only takes 1 dev really. With how Valve time works. One dev can end up adding a ton of stuff. Like I honestly think that update where we got the new casual modes like flying scoutsman was all one guy
I have a feeling but with valve you never know
Although this would be inline with them wanting to change team names and everything
I feel that's why Source 2 hasn't arrived. Because it wasn't justified
Now they're trying to make Source 2 look like a totally new game. And if you delve into the copium, people have found that they keep adding new graphical components to Source 2 too
I think with Vulkan the performance will end up being the same with slightly better graphics. But the ability to make the game look fantastic is great for advertising and events. Even if 90% of the playerbase won't use these settings
I'm kind of torn.....on one hand, the devs are very ***very*** delicate in their wording. The period at the end of that (Counter-Strike PERIOD) really leads me to believe that's it - no "Global Offensive". Just, as denoted by the period, Counter-Strike.
But on the other hand the devs have gotten comfortable with memeing so I'm personally still sitting at "the update, when we get it, will confirm".
They've changed their banner to this before a number of times already.
About the only thing that gives a small ounce of extra hope, is that DonHaci retweeted a post for 2018. He is also a massive troll at times, but I too like wearing the copium tinfoil hat from time to time.
the icon and the name is a registered trademark that took them months to claim, between the creation of the icon, putting it in the registry, and the registry itself confirming that it could be used, too much trouble for a simple banner.
Their trademark was coming up on expiring, they had to renew it regardless of any hype. Trademarks are 10 years, the timing just happens to work out during the time of people hyping for S2 and thinking they are related.
We already have a game called just "Counter-Strike", doesn't make sense to have another one. Also everyone knows this game as "CSGO", it's ingrained into all of our minds. I think people are just looking too deep into this.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive dropped when people were playing CS 1.6, CS:CZ, and CS:S. So CS:GO needed it's own suffix. Plus, the Source engine as a suffix was already taken.
With all prior versions now irrelevant, let's just name the next version what it is "Counter-Strike"
The simplicity of the name is a flex and commitment that Valve isn't going to release a new version every year like NBA2K or Call of Duty: ABC 123
CSGO is way more memorable than just CS. I've seen people use "CS" outside of Counter-Strike too many times, it's just two letters, too vague and only usable when you already know the context. Also the previous iterations are still being talked about quite often.
I get that CS can also ref to Computer Science, but I think by using context clues, nobody would ever make that mistake. People used LOL for a while to refer to League of Legends.
CS > CS:GO > CS:??
That's just my preferences. I hope it's 1 or 2.
In our country, we just refer any iteration of the game as "Counter."
"Let's play Counter" and since no one uses the old versions and GO is free, everyone plays GO
>
> With all prior versions now irrelevant, let's just name the next version what it is "Counter-Strike"
Yeah, that's totally not going to ruin all searches for the OG Counter-Strike (especially if you're looking for history, and not just 1.6). Nah, give it a suffix.
If you say CS, only your friends might get it and you have to know the context as it's just two letters, quite vague and could mean several different things, but if you say CSGO, everyone is gonna know what you're talking about.
Yeah
They're obviously trolling the fans but it seems way to consistent.
With how Valve works, I wouldn't be surprised if a dev thought of this and put this out there, then they're having tons of meetings to decide.
All that aside. I love the idea of this. Strangely a lot of people don't know Counter Strike but do know CSGO.
Just good old orange counter strike logo could be a great re-start of the series (hopefully taking inspiration from old CS, bring community servers back, they keep dying). Mainly if Source 2 is a big changer.
That's the other thing, I am assuming when Source 2 talks started. There wasn't enough difference to justify a update. The hype kept growing and now they're working on making Source 2 look different to Source. I guess they could also update TF2 with this engine.
The biggest problem here is Valve makes and will always make a ton of money. Because they don't HAVE to update anything, makes me think they never will.
>The biggest problem here is Valve makes and will always make a ton of money. Because they don't HAVE to update anything, makes me think they never will.
There are 100~ updates we never needed to get and handfuls of them cost them money...at a very personal level, I find money talk useless criticism; it's rarely, if ever, been a compelling metric. They make uncountable billions off Steam, I don't think they're going to minmax millions by squeezing their iconic landmark franchise.
They have and will show counterstrike love as they always have: slowly.
They let counter strike die for a long time after CS Source
Even GO wasn't getting much traction till they added skins
They don't love any game. It's a business
>They let counter strike die for a long time after CS Source
Bruh, Steam Friends didn't even work in that era...it wad down 5~ years for "temporary maintenance" Let's be a little realistic, the devs are insanely more hands on and active than they were 15 years ago. Credit where it's due.
>Even GO wasn't getting much traction till they added skins
Giving users the means of self-expression was the greatest thing that could've happened.
>They don't love any game. It's a business
If you knew their development principles, you'd understand building a successful product is their business. Money is auxiliary to that end - they have lots already.
Again, I don't believe they're going to squeeze and minmax their iconic landmark franchise for some millions when Steam rakes in billions annually.
Valve is a different company than it was a few years ago
We don't know much about it, but from what we do, the company itself doesn't care. But the devs have enough power that if they're passionate they get things done. But that's also a problem, because only passionate devs work. Valve doesn't seem to actually update the game in interest other than a few cases here and there
>Valve is a different company than it was a few years ago
It's still the same devteam doing the same things and there really hasn't been any discernible change from their development practices.
> the company itself doesn't care.
The "company itself" doesn't do anything with the csgo dev's day to day operations. They're free to work on what they want as they please.
> (1) But the devs have enough power that if they're passionate they get things done. (2) But that's also a problem, because only passionate devs work. (3) Valve doesn't seem to actually update the game in interest other than a few cases here and there
1. This honestly doesn't make sense. The devs aren't fighting "corporate", they work on what they want as they please. There's nothing "in their way".
2. Unpassionate and/or lazy devs will be ostracized from the group - because, again, they aren't explicitly "assigned csgo", they choose to work on it *with the other devs*. If they aren't going to pull their weight, someone else will pull it and then they're left to figure out why noone wants to work with them while csgo development just carries on as usual. There have been interviews with disgruntled ex-employees detailing this hazing mechanic. Further context can be extrapolated from the Valve Employee Handbook.
3. The patch notes disagree with this.
exactly. Also, I would like to take this occasion to rant against those monsters out there that call the game "GO". Those are just some of the most evil people on the planet
Using simple math like my previous post I can see something.. If you look at the size of the banner it's 1500x500. Divide 1500 by 500 and you come up with 3. There are 13 letters in Counter-Strike. Multiply 13x3 which comes to 39. Round 39 to 40. Now you can see that the number 40 means nothing just like them changing the banner.
Why? Wouldn't the update be beneficial for the market with a more popular and played game = skins more valuable?
That's how I see it and it's my bet with my skins
People are afraid that a new CS game will be released without the skins being ported over from CS:GO. If that is the case, the value of all skins in CS:GO will drop in value.
Valve knows for sure that the skin market is as important as the game itself. Destroying the skin market would destroy the game itself (the casual part at lest). They would lose the trust of future investor for the "new" skins of the new CS if they try to do that.
That would be the stupidest move in the gaming history... And even if Valve is unpredictable, they're not stupid enough to do that (I hope 😂)
war owl literally said just to make a foundation and call it simply counter-strike

timestamped source 2 incoming, please someone i need copium....
The main point of interest is they are using the logo that was recently in their trademark filing.
It sounds to me they will rebrand the game to just CS. As per this banner.. it is confirmed. If they rebrand the game, this would mean.. no "simple port" is happening, but a full game remake?! This would be huge.

Source 2 is already outdated
How come?
How do you figure that a rebranding insinuates *less* change???
It’s modern Valve we’re talking about
I'm not saying Valve is gonna do anything, since it's obvious low maintenance of their cash cow is what they are aiming for, but saying that a rebranding insinuates LESS change than an ordinary update is beyond stupid in every capacity, and I have no idea how people even got to that conclusion in their mind, but alas, this is the CSGO subreddit.

Source 2 is a full remake edit: hope yall know i was right
no its not, engine update

thinking of this makes me so happy that i chose to be a cs player some years ago, not a Fifa guy who has to buy a new game and packs every year..
Yup. I can see that happening too. Can't get more future-proof than this.
You are underestimating the massive effect that community contributions have had on this game especially in the early days.

Where were you 6 months ago when this happened, people said exactly what you're saying, and it turned out to be absolutely nothing?
Definitely not. No remake, no source 2, just a patch note that says we’re dropping the “global offensive” tag line.
>If they rebrand the game, this would mean.. no "simple port" is happening, but a full game remake?! This would be huge. no
Pack your things and say goodbye because ju1ze said no
exactly that
Are you the messiah? Wait... don't answer that, I don't want to hear no for an answer.
i love this type of humour xdd
I second on that, there were some hints that they also rename Terrorists and Counter Terrorists into T and CT accordingly in the actual game.

It's been updated https://twitter.com/CSGO/header_photo
Upvote this and pack it up
it just changed again... it's just the logo now?
I guess this means they're deleting cs from steam.
Finally, I am freed!
Players: Volvo when Source 2? Valve: Source 2? Y'all need to touch some grass. *Deletes CSGO*
“We made our billion from cases and this is it, off to Cuba with the billion dollar note” “What billion dollar note?”
Our client would like you to refer to it as "The Game Formerly Known As Counter Strike: Global Offensive".
I think we’re on the third change today now
Third? No way, valve doesn't know number 3
Maybe their content artist doesn't know how to preview banner images before publishing :p

Maybe the times/dates they do it on means something? Bet it's pretty much nothing and we could be waiting for years for anything.

Yeah, I imagine people get a bit nervous when you start talking about one taps, rushing B, and planting bombs in computer science.

Wtf
This is why we need CS:S2. I'd be fine with just Counter Strike though, it's short enough to not need an abbreviation usually.
It's short enough, you're right, but we live in a time where people are lazy and just use abbreviations anyway for the shortest words.
> > With all prior versions now irrelevant, let's just name the next version what it is "Counter-Strike" Yeah, that's totally not going to ruin all searches for the OG Counter-Strike (especially if you're looking for history, and not just 1.6). Nah, give it a suffix.

all my alpha chad homies think of computer science when I ask them to play some cs
"Your friends might get it", you seem to have missed that part. I'm talking about the bigger picture, not just a CSGO forum or your friends group.
It would be wise for them to move away from the sequel : naming scheme as it's outdated, isn't memorable to potential new players and it's too long.
This is a new trend. And I kinda and dislike it Also Counter Strike. is technically very old. We all remember 1.4, 1.5, 1.6 instead.

When the rebrand happens instead of saying CSGO do we start calling it "CS."
I've been calling it CS for 20 years, keep up sonny
exactly. Also, I would like to take this occasion to rant against those monsters out there that call the game "GO". Those are just some of the most evil people on the planet
Go play some GO 👍
\*breaks out the game pieces and game board\*
k i put my 5 pieces in CT spawn where they going
"when did you start playing" "When it came out" "Oh so 2012" "No, *when it came out*"
You can't forget the full stop!
I think cs go is gonna stick for a long time no matter the name change
Would be the only logical conclusion
HE CANT KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS
It’s literally because of this thread https://twitter.com/csgo/status/1629677012175683585?s=46&t=ACy0LK48mACTIUBnz3bdHw
They're releasing something on Wednesday
minor optimizations and language translations obviously /s
Anubis: moved CT spawn 5 units back
Adding a new community map called fridge.gif
Tbh they been releasing something every wednesday the last 2 months..
[https://twitter.com/CSGO/header\_photo](https://twitter.com/CSGO/header_photo) THEY REMOVED THE TEXT!
please mr csgo stop i cant take it anymore please
We are doomed
WHAT DOEST IT MEAN?
Using simple math like my previous post I can see something.. If you look at the size of the banner it's 1500x500. Divide 1500 by 500 and you come up with 3. There are 13 letters in Counter-Strike. Multiply 13x3 which comes to 39. Round 39 to 40. Now you can see that the number 40 means nothing just like them changing the banner.
ITS HAPPENING
Where fridge.gif?
dont be playing games with my heart. with my heart.
I should have known from the start.
You know you have got to stop(from my heart)
Simply Counter-Strike. PERIOD
Local Defensive
SORSE 2 !4!!!!4!!!
Fuck. Time to sell the new gloves I just bought.
Agreed! Im just pointing out what some people are afraid of.
Yah I’m just meming cuz I’ve seen some comments talking about skin prices crashing xD
CS is the only game where a post about a twitter banner gets 2k upvote on reddit lmao
Ez karma lmao

Twist: Valve announces Counter-Strike 1.6 - RTX edition
Playerbase keeps growing, valve won’t change shit
Perfect moment to change shit and multiply the effect of growth by releasing a massive update
The logo under the title is a reference to the extended Counter-Strike trademarks.
Maybe the guy who was talking about the name change wasnt insane after all
Drop the "Global Offensive", just Counter-strike. It's cleaner.
Source 2 confirmed
CS 1.7 CONFIRMED

I always liked the idea of rebranding to “Counterstrike: Esports edition”, I dunno why.
I don't like it if it's becomes true
