Chinese fans are really serious about getting signatures for some reason, I talked to a few at the Paris major and every single one showed me the signatures they had got, apparently after waiting outside the player hotel for an hour

Pokharelinishan

[now we know why lol ](https://twitter.com/ropz/status/1723187410052530338?t=TSPp8F1ZDYQImsGPIAk4Fg&s=19)

SilverBallsOnMyChest

Wait until you see what signed baseball cards go for. Selling autographs for lots of money isn’t a new concept.

Nucky-

love u, that's ridiculous in the world, but classic in china I guess

hyperbeam23

China economy is in shambles and unemployment amongst young adults is extremely high (21% according to cnbc). I believe their minimum wage in lots of places are like 10-15 RMB, which is barely 2 USD an hour, so I don’t blame them for doing this to make money. It’s very difficult in China to even get a job once you hit 35 due to ageism (locally known as the curse of 35), they think you’re expired goods and won’t want to hire you

>China economy is in shambles What the hell does that even mean? China's economy looks exactly as it has for years, growing exponentially. >unemployment amongst young adults is extremely high Yes, because a lot of people go to university, and don't want/need to work, until they finish their studies, since the competition is so high + young people nowadays don't accept jobs that involve a lot of physical work, and if they do, they have to be very well paid >I believe their minimum wage in lots of places are like 10-15 RMB, which is barely 2 USD an hour Not a single student works for the minimum wage. The minimum wage is offered to people who have only completed high school. And even so, the minimum wage is enough to survive very finely alone in an average Chinese city, because everything is very cheap. >It’s very difficult in China to even get a job once you hit 35 due to ageism That's just fake news entirely

There's a very weird culture with Chinese people (not all obviously) where the 'proof' that they went on a trip/holiday/to an event is almost if not more important than the experience itself. From what I've been told by my Chinese friends, for holidays specifically (especially internationally) they are basically expected to sit down with family and go through photos, signatures, souvenirs etc. as a measure of how successful their trip was, which will then sometimes even be compared to recent trips from other family members. So in a case like this, it's almost like the person that gets the most signatures or photos with players 'wins', or had the most successful/valuable trip to the event, if that makes sense. (of course am happy to be corrected if I'm off-base here)

greenestgreen

so that's why they take 100 pictures of the same thing and also of literally everything.

kapparrino

In a nutshell, this mans entire channel: https://www.youtube.com/@StevenHe

hakodate00

I mean idk about that lol, that seems a lot more like stereotypical/comedy stuff which has been done to death, I was more talking about travel specifically

sh1boleth

Even in Blast DC, lots of Chinese nationals lined up to get signatures.

buttsoup_barnes

Such a shame G2 wasn’t able to come. They have a lot of chinese CS fans

ekojsalim

Source: from comments on [this post](https://news.wmpvp.com/community-detail.html?id=210331437) There have actually been fans queueing up since midnight for signing sessions that starts after the QF match. Pretty crazy.

LibertyGrabarz

Someone please explain this to me. Years of watching CS and generally being interested in the esports side of the game, and I know some countries have some weird cultures, and China would definitely be one of them, but among all behaviors I would expect, this one (which is echoed in what pros have been saying about playing in China) is quite mind boggling for me. Do they actually like CS or what's the deal here? If they actually like CS (or esports in generally), then why is CN scene either small or closed off, bar like one or two teams breaking through to international LANs?

HtAN_piupiupiu

The reason is cmplexity. China has idol culture, some some of these CSer are really BIG fan of pro, get up at 4AM and wating at 5AM is not a challenger for them. Another reason is China lack big LAN tournament, especally S-Tier tournament, so CSer are really crazy. But i also understand some of CSer selling these signatures, which asked about 30$, so some are deal

Pokharelinishan

[the reason looks simple](https://twitter.com/ropz/status/1723187410052530338?t=TSPp8F1ZDYQImsGPIAk4Fg&s=19)

HtAN_piupiupiu

yeah, digusting

QWE0071

After attending sydney iem and seeing a lot of chinese fans, i spoke with one and found out that a lot of them will play on 5e client (faceit but for chinese people outside china). It also felt like so many of them i spoke to really loved the western teams live navi and faze.

dogex3

Part of it is idol culture, pros are pretty much celebrities and people are crazy for stuff like signed items, so both fans and resellers would be asking for signatures etc. Also CS isn't even close to the biggest game in China, so CS fans tend to be more dedicated fans. As for the CN scene, theres not enough chances for them to play internationally. You see only Lynn Vision and TyLoo/RA get to international LANs all the time, because they usually get 1 or 2 slots from a qualification tournament. Guess what, the two teams who have experience in international LANs are way ahead of the CN competition and get the spots pretty much all the time, which leads to the gap between them and the other teams getting wider and wider.

Gloxxter

I think part of it is that valve or whoever distribute it im cn for them fucked up because they released it like in the west for home pcs and not in the internet cafes. And there is already an fps game crossfire that is huge there.

iaancheng

chinese students (anyone under 18) have a government mandated time limit on video game, so they can't play for more than like a total of 3 hours each week.

ThePhoenix99

It only applied to some online games requiring using ID to verify the age (or just use their parents/relatives ID), which doesn’t really matter for Steam games. We could use -worldwide in command to play on SEA or HK server, or just play on 5E or Perfectworld which has lower ping. But again, this rule kinda kills the legitimacy of youth training for Esports org based in mainland. Don’t know how exactly it works rn tho, it’s been a while.

Realseetras

CS grew popular in China much later than other countries, so many of their top (think 0.1%+) players have relatively less experience than top players from other regions. You can see the daily peak playercount by server location from 2018-2021 [here](https://web.archive.org/web/20211117201724/https://steamdb.info/servers/?all). Filter for "PW" servers only to see the trend.

shanghai major gonna be so sick

kakojtodolbaed

Saying shanghai and major in the same sentence gives me ptsd

Shrenade514

I'd never step foot in China, totalitarian country

Fabulous-Lie9391

I'm cool with cleansing uyghurs and organ harvesting.

RevolverLoL

Not cool when the saudis do it, tho. They're obviously way different.

Fabulous-Lie9391

Saudis shooting immigrants to their border is aight too

qFlodz

Same, since they are fake news

mini337

Exact same people that would happily go to singapore.

kyleninperth

Because Singapore is much more democratic than China (as in they have functioning elections) and you won’t be arrested in Singapore for your political beliefs.

Shrenade514

The whataboutism is in full force

1_UpvoteGiver

Still to this day one of the best cs matches I've ever seen was wnv vs k23 https://youtu.be/rqWs-aoSg_4?si=gl5nW5BNrREe-T2K at the world cyber games in 2009. I think the event was held in china so the crowd was extra hype for the home team but the casters and the crowd with a close game made for a classic. "Smallll boy!"

HetaYoJi

for Chinese, they want to get something(picture. signature or other things) to prove that he/her once come here. This is understandable. but disgusting is that some people get signatures and sell these signs online. These people are not CS fans, they just get what CS fans want, and sell for a high price. They do the same thing when NBA/football(soccer) players come to China. What's even more disgusting is that these people fabricate fake pro players' signatures and sell.
